Came here to celebrate a belated birthday with a friend, and it turned out to be such a good experience as it was the Birthday girl second time at DolarShop. As part of the celebration, my friend got to do a virtual prize spin, and we ended up winning a complimentary plate of lamb, which was such a fun surprise. The lamb was fresh, tender, and a perfect addition to our meal. We visited on one of the hottest days of June, so walking into the restaurant's cool, air-conditioned dining room was an immediate relief. It made for a really comfortable dining experience. We both ordered the Wagyu Short Plate meal set with a split soup base: creamy pork broth on one side and tomato broth on the other. The wagyu was incredibly buttery and melted in our mouths, and the quality of the lamb was just as impressive. Everything tasted fresh, and the portions were generous. By the end of the meal, we were completely satisfied--and even had enough leftovers for lunch the next day. I originally reached out privately, but since I have been completely ignored, I am leaving this review to warn others. First, I won a $100 voucher through an Instagram giveaway. When I tried to use it, the staff claimed the QR code was "invalid and already used." I have never used it, and being accused of this in front of others was incredibly embarrassing. Furthermore, the voucher had zero mentions of any restrictions regarding the "All You Can Eat" menu, yet they refused to honor it at the time of payment. I was forced to pay the bill out of my own pocket! On top of the terrible voucher experience, the dining experience itself was highly disappointing and unsafe: Menu Cutbacks: All of their fried appetizers were completely crossed out from the menu, yet they are still charging the exact same price! Got seated promptly upon arrival at 6:30 pm, which was when our reservation was. They have little snacks like popcorn, candies, and flavoured water outside for you if there happens to be a wait. Our go to is the pork bone broth, which comes with some acoutrements inside the soup already. I made a reservation for 6:30pm on a Friday night. Our party arrived at 6:15 and it was no issue getting seated early though the employees did say due to a high number of reservations, they asked that if we could finish our meal within 2 hours. The staff speak English, Mandarin, and Cantonese so communication was no issue at all. Upon being seated, we were promptly greeted by our server who walked us through the seafood specials and gave us an iPad to scroll through the different offerings. She quickly made our sauces and let us know about the cold/sauce bar. There were jars of candy and various tea offerings too. The panda ice jelly bar was a hit! We placed our orders on the iPad and the food came out very quickly. We all opted for the creamy pork bone broth with chicken. The broth was creamy without being overly fatty or heavy. The chicken was very soft and tender! We ordered 3 platters of meat (flat iron, ribeye, and boneless wagyu short rib), a vegetable variety platter, beef tripe, and shrimp paste. Everything was fresh and well prepared. The server informed us of the recommended cook times for the items. For payment, they prefer cash or debit. Credit card payment includes an additional 2% fee which is waived if you complete their survey. The total for 3 people after tax and tip was around $215 CAD. The wait wasn't too long. The service was spectacular, we let them know that it was our first time there, and the staffs took care of us. This was my first time trying hot pot (I don't know why it took me so long) and it certainly won't be my last! I think The Dolar Shop makes it to the top of my list for best restaurants in Vancouver. Not only was their food amazing but their customer service was top notch! This is one of the more upscale hot pot restaurants I've been to, one in which you'd come to splurge once in a while. We had a large party of almost 20 people and they had us in a private room, but we ordered in small groups. We had to wait a bit despite having a reservation, but they had some snacks at the front and you can wait indoors so you wouldn't be freezing outside. The presentation of the food was very neat and I enjoyed all of the variety of meats, seafood, and veggies they had to offer. The meats in particular were delicious and weren't tough to chew. The split broth in your own personal pot was a huge plus to offer variety in the dining experience. This was the first time I've seen a split individual pot so I'm all for it because I always have a hard time choosing one broth. We tried the spicy broth, tomato broth, and the creamy pork broth; all of which were good. The sauce bar was well labeled and had extensive options to make your own sauce. Service was a little slow, but I understand it's hard to manage a large party unless properly staffed. I honestly don't even remember the total for all of our food, but it was VERY pricey relative to hotpot experiences I've had. I do think the quality is there, but not sure if it justifies the price since I've had better at a lower cost. I'm not sure why I haven't written a review for Dolar Shop when I've been here more times than I can remember since 2019. I don't need to say much - this place is pricey and has many controversial opinions about how good it is but I can't stop coming back. This place is excellent for large parties, small parties, boujee parties, hangover parties, birthday parties and more. You can make a reservation easily on Yelp or call for large party inquiries. It's a great place for when you are craving high-quality food and high-quality service. I will say that over the years, the restaurant has gotten better and better. With the addition of the dessert bar and new delicious soup bases, I've had a 10/10 experience every time as of late. The servers are always attentive and aside from occasional busy days when the restaurant is packed, will always keep your water glass full and pot full of soup. There is a large selection of meat, seafood, vegetables, and more but I generally order the set menu (35.99 and up). The set comes with more than enough meat and veggies and unlimited noodle refill. I like that I can select a split soup base without extra charge. There is also unlimited sauce and appetizer/fruits for your picking. Finally, the best part is high key the ice cream and it is unbeatable. No, you don't get icy inconsistent ice cream or the plain old Chapman's cup. It's good milky, creamy, soft-serve ice cream and if you have a large dessert stomach, it is unlimited! Yes it's expensive, and yes we have "Dolar Shop" at home, but there is so much mediocre expensive hotpot out there. If you're going to splurge, just go here. Luckily my friend had made a reservation a couple days beforehand, so our party of 4 was seated right when we got there Friday evening at 6:15. They have individual pots here. You order on an iPad and everything is served pretty quickly. Right after ordering, I went to the bathroom and to the sauce bar, and by the time I came back, all the food was delivered. The sauce bar was pretty nice. For apps, they have edamame and kimchi as well as some fruit like orange slices, grape tomatoes, and grapes. They have all the standard sauce bar ingredients as well as some interesting sauces I've never seen before, like a chive sauce. All of their broths are $13.98, with some split pot options. We ordered a good amount of meat and veggies to share, and everything was very fresh. However, you are looking at a $50-60+ easily per person, so it isn't cheap. I didn't think we ordered that much and our total came out to around $65 per person. For dessert, they give you vanilla soft serve. You can make your own panda ice jelly. Fortunately, my friend and I didn't have to wait when we came for dinner on a Monday. We ordered a lot so just some highlights: My favourite meat plate was the selected beef + lamb platter. The beef was so tender and juicy and tasted so savoury. We also ad the AAA rib eye was not that good, I wouldn't recommend this. The hand-crafted noodles were surprisingly good; I feel like noodles are often an afterthought at hot pot, but these noodles tasted fresh, chewy, and tasted so good with either the pork broth or and DIY sauces. I really liked the Chef's Creamy Pork Broth for my soup base - it was really fragrant and all the meat I cooked in it was so delicious. It did come with chicken (or something else? I forgot what the other choice was) which was a bit weird? The chicken was spongy and hard to chew, and also I never order chicken at hot pot regardless. There was a very delightful ice cream dessert at the end, the vanilla was not too sweet and it came with a very yummy black cookie cone. This is a chinese hotpot place. It functions similar to say, the big competing chain. The main difference with Dolar shop is that you each get a small individual pot with your soup(s) of choice, and this is a "luxury tier" of hotpot and is thus more expensive. They serve you a freshly cut fruit platter while you wait for your hotpot to arrive which is a nice touch. The soup choices are rather slim but the soups themselves were fine. I had the spicy and tomato combo, both were good enough. The selection of hotpot items were also fine, lots of choices, well-prepared. But is it better than other places? Not really. Its also fine, no complaints. Sauce bar was good. Ice jelly bar was also good. They give you soft-serve ice cream at the end - its just ok, but hey its included so whatever. The restaurant itself can only be described as tacky. The decor has a lot of gaudy details and over-the-top decorations. whoever designed their interior probably though "more is better" and just tried to add as many expensive decor options as can be crammed into the space. lol. The place is clean and seats were comfortable though. I wish they left more room between tables. A cramped dining room erases any notion of "luxury." Circumstances fell in line together and I finally had the opportunity to drop by and check things out. I'm not really a heavy hot pot person, but I could definitely tell this was a bit more on the upscale side. At least, the presentation of the restaurant is really nice. Ordering your food off an iPad is a nice touch. Some of the combos were a bit difficult at first glance to figure out, but I managed. From an ordering perspective, it seems like it'll be most efficient all the time to grab at least one of the combos. You get a nice serving of protein along with noodles/rice, veggies and basic hot pot stuff, as well as some extra protein. I definitely dig the individual hot pot aspect as well. I opted for the creamy pork broth and that was quite a hit for me. It's tough for me to process how to rate a hot pot restaurant, but I think overall I was pleased. It was quite pricey of a meal to me as a non regular hot pot user. Your milage will greatly vary as well given you're essentially paying a bunch of money to cook your own food. Both we good but the Black Truffle was fantastic with lingering earthy notes. I want this broth on my next visit. Ordered food via ipad on the table. Shrimp Pate, enoki mushroom, spinach, lamb shoulder, beef, fried bean curd, hand crafted noodles, and wagyu beef pancake were some of the items we ordered. I really enjoyed my experience and this has now become one of my favourite hot pot places in Richmond. I highly recommend making reservations using yelp (not just join the wait list). COVID protocols: All the staff would wear masks, and it felt well ventilated because it is hot pot after all (strong ventilation systems installed so you don't smell like you went to hot pot). I've heard of Dolar Shop so much before coming here and how it was always compared to Haidilao, so I had to give it a shot. Located in an Asian mall/supermarket complex, the inside of the restaurant is very nice, clean, and spacious. You can make reservations or walk-in (but be ready for a wait, just in case). Once you are ready, they walk you to your table in the back. You order on an iPad and there's so many seafood, meat, and veggie options. My friend and I ordered a little of each (it wasn't actually very little and we definitely over ordered LOL). We each got different soup bases (Exquisite Silver Soup & Black Truffle Mushroom Broth) and they were both so rich and flavorful. Although definitely on the pricier side, every dish that came out was beautifully presented and the quality was amazing. Aside from the wagyu melting in your mouth, the one that surprised me the most was the shrimp paste, as it was nearly like freshly ground shrimp (rather than a mix of shrimp with other ingredients as many other restaurants do). The service was amazing and they provided you with hairties, aprons, etc. The part I was most disappointed about was the sauce bar, as I felt that it was lacking compared to other hot pot places, especially for the price point (but I didn't mind that much). One of the hotpot places that I have yet to try in Vancouver. Service was excellent as all servers were friendly and happy to help. I ordered the tomato soup base which is one of the best I have had. Quality of food was on point as it is a must for any hotpot places. A surprise from the restaurant was their Banana Egg Pancake, the texture and sweetness really adds another interesting taste to the meal. I love this place! I came here last time I was I Vancouver and was super excited to come back. The service, food and variety was great. It's a bit pricey especially for some of premium items, but worth the experience. We also love the complimentary ice cream they give at the end. The bill came to around $200 for four people, which is pretty decent, although we didn't really order too many premium items. Highly recommend this place and look forward to coming back again. read more

Had a great experience there. We were greeted right away by the host and server and were led to our seat. We tried their silver soup and the truffle broth. Ordered a plate of wagyu, pork, shrimp paste and veggie platter. The price is pricey but the quality of food is great. They have a sauce bar or you can ask the staff to make you sauces. There is an all you can eat fruit and sauce bar too. At the end of the meal, you get a soft serve ice cream. The service is great. Overall, the place is very clean and good covid protocols in place. There is a staff that comes and clean up the sauce station often. The tables are distanced well and has plexiglass up between tables. They also have rules in place where you can't seat on the outside seats. I see staff sanitize the table and chairs after the guests leave. I will definitely come back again. read more
