I cannot recommend The Dress Shop enough! After visiting several bridal stores and either not finding the right dress or not having the best experience, I decided to stop into The Dress Shop as my last store--just to see what they had. From the moment we walked in, we felt so welcome and taken care of. Although I'm sure all of their stylists are wonderful, I was incredibly lucky to work with Isabel, and I truly cannot give her enough praise. She was absolutely incredible. Isabel was so knowledgeable about every aspect of the gowns--fabric, designers, styles, silhouettes, details--you name it. She answered every question we had and made me feel reassured and completely comfortable, more than any other shop I visited (and I visited a good few!). One thing I loved was how personal the experience felt. During my first consultation, Isabel asked about my (then) fiancé, how we met, and details about our wedding day. It truly felt like they cared about me and wanted to get to know my story. I honestly felt like I became friends with them! There was never an ounce of pressure. In fact, it was the opposite--they respected when I needed time to think and never made me feel rushed or questioned my decisions. It was such a refreshing, positive experience. This shop--and especially Isabel--is genuinely at the very top of my list of wedding vendors. I've been excited to write this review since the day I bought my dress! Even after my dress purchase, I visited a few more times to look for a veil, jewelry, and accessories, and every single person I interacted with (front desk, phone calls, stylists) was so kind, encouraging, and helpful. A few caveats for this review: I went here this Sunday, for my first time wedding dress shopping, with two of my bridesmaids, as one of them saw they were doing a dress sale, for $299 and up. Therefore, my experience was maybe not the "typical" one here. It was very easy to make my appointment online, and they texted me a few times to confirm, too. When I arrived, I gave my name and wedding date, and then they brought us to a "suite" as someone called it here (basically just a small room with some chairs and a privacy curtain for me while I changed). They gave me these large ring-type things and asked me to choose 3 dresses to try on first. I guess because it was later in the day, their selection had dwindled a bit ... they also told me that typically you go up a size in a wedding dress, vs. a regular dress, so it seemed like size 22 was fitting me best. The appointment started off promisingly, as there were a few size 22's for me to try, but later in the appointment they asked if I wanted to try some size 18s/20s, which was disappointing as I couldn't even fit the dress on me (definitely not their fault that *I* can't fit into those sizes, but I was a bit disappointed they didn't have more in size 22 or larger). I almost wish we had started with the 18/20s because when I left I was feeling kinda disappointed and discouraged, even though I figured I wouldn't be buying a dress at the first store I shopped at. The shop itself was very nice, though, and the employees were super nice and helpful, so they still get 4/5 stars from me. They said I could make an appointment to come back another time to shop their regular collection, too, but those start at $1500, and I am hoping to spend a little less on my dress. read more

Great selection for Livingston county brides. A lot of dress shapes and beads/lace textures. The staff is phenomenal and they really make it an enjoyable experience for guests. If you're getting married in 2021, you need to go to The Dress Shop for your dress! My mom, sister and I had the best experience! I wasn't quite sure what style dress I would want and our consultant, Brittany, did a great job making sure I explored all the options and tried all the ones on that matched my taste. I will say the store was clean and they had you wear masks in the main portion of the store but we had our own private room for the trying on and didn't have to worry about those restrictions there so didn't have to worry about wearing a mask and trying to pick your dress. Our group was greeted and offered champagne and mimosas and then a type of survey was given to the bride to get a better idea of her style, which I thought was a great idea! The store itself is beautiful. I loved that all of the dresses were organized by style, and they had lots of gorgeous dresses and a great selection of bridesmaids dresses as well. I liked their way of "marking" the dresses we liked with a ring, so then someone could help us get them back to the fitting rooms, and our representative also picked some she thought the bride would like, and she did! The fitting rooms were awesome also. Very intimate and it didn't matter that others were in the store because we were in our own little room. All of the ladies were very helpful when it came to picking a wedding dress, as well as helping the bridesmaids find a dress, too! The dress try-on and buying experience was wonderful. We had mimosas, and the woman who helped me was absolutely delightful to work with. She never once made me feel rushed or pressured and pointed out pros and cons of every dress. They knew i had been looking elsewhere so i definitely did not feel obligated to purchase that day - even though i did! The unfortunate part came after purchasing my gown. They called and said i had 1 week to pick it up or i would be charged. I'm from out of state, i made sure to ask them to note this on my account many times. Not that i was looking for any special treatment, but i live in Florida (born and raised in MI) so they assured me from the beginning it would be no trouble. When i said i could not physicality be there in 1 week because it required travel, they were hesitant to let me wait two weeks, but ultimately did, which was appreciated. I just wish it hadn't come with so much attitude. Fast forward to January, when they told me to call to schedule my fittings. Again, they told me "call early" and "don't worry about your alterations, the dress needs very little done so we can probably do it in 2 sessions since you have to travel". I was told again, that this was noted on my account. When i called, first the woman acted so abruptly surprised that i could even have such a request. She said they weren't even considering alterations for weddings past April. She said my dress would require at LEAST 3 to 4 fittings (literally not true for a dress that just needs length altered) and basically refused to help me because i was out of state. Honestly that interaction ruined the entire process. I was left to scramble, to find someone who truly WANTED to help me and understood my timeline. The dress shop was so considerate when it came to dropping almost 3 grand on my dress and insisted they'd be there "through the whole process" until it actually came time to do so. I have taken my dress to 3 different alterations stores and all three have told me that the dress could Not be altered for off the shoulders sleeves. Newly engaged Gal-Pal asked me to help her find a wedding dress. My wedding-geekout kicked in and I planned our whole day; complete with gifts, mimosas, three bridal shop appts and a margarita lunch stop built-in. My first contact was The Dress Shop. I requested an early morning appointment for Saturday, online on Wednesday, and they were happy to fit in our party of three. Communication was mostly via email but they were prompt and thorough. I thought I mapped out the travel time properly but I sadly discovered Google maps and GPS have a 30 minute time difference. In a slight panic that this hiccup would throw off our whole day; I called the shop to apologize profusely and let them know we would be late, but they were kind and accommodating. Pulling up to The Dress Shop, on Grand River Ave, was a pleasant surprise. Large, new, and modern building, with beautiful displays in the windows, made us feel like we were in good hands and wouldn't get lost the a sea of organza. Beautiful high ceilings showcased the well organized racks displaying dresses by style. The best feature were the suites. Bride and guests are shown to a suite to settle in while your assigned consultant gives you a bit of a run down of the process. I had brought mimosas to kick off the day right, but The Dress Shop had this covered too. They have a Bubble Bar! We kept to what I brought but it was such a nice feature - I wish they were around or that I would have know about them when I was getting married in 2010. I do think they were there, but I thought it was too far away. I cannot impress enough that this should be your first stop for dress shopping and they are worth the drive. Brianna was our consultant and we could not have been happier with her undivided attention. She showed us the layout of the racks, gave the Bride a handful of plastic rings to mark dresses she would like to try, and left us to browse. Mimosas in hand, it was perfect, relaxing and fun. It wasn't hard use up all the rings, as they have a fabulous selection. Off rack dresses started at $300 to re-order dresses with a median price of $1200. We were just having such a great time trying on her choices. Brianna really paid attention to the Bride's cues and reactions to each dress. She would only pull a couple at a time so it wasn't overwhelming. Narrowing it down to two, Bride just couldn't pick, so with all the information in hand, we went next door to lunch at Tres Amigos. I had cancelled the other appts but we needed margaritas and lunch to mull over the top two contenders. One a re-order and the other an off-rack. Bride ended up with the off-rack dress, well under budget, and she took home that day. It was the one dress we all teared up at her reveal. Even though it was off-rack, she wasn't settling, it was the perfect dress for her. I cannot be grateful enough to The Dress Shop for such a wonderful experience for our friend. read more

I would give zero stars if it was an option. This was THE MOST inconvenient BS I have had to put up with. As a bridesmaid in a friend's wedding, the bride brought us here to try on dresses. I live out of state. My plan was to try on the dress, confirm my size, and order from a local shop where I live. They would not let any of the maids get a discount for the extremely expensive (I know the price isn't dictated by the store, but it irritated me further) dresses unless we all bought them there. They then took nearly 5 months to deliver, and insisted that I pick it up in store within 30 days of delivery or I would have to pay a storage fee. Luckily for me, I am going to be in the area within that 30 days. They are also insisting I make an appointment to pick up the dress and try it on for them. As a person sensitive to body image struggles, I also noted a few missteps on their part. Trying on clothes in front of others can already be hard, but it was made even more challenging when they left the measurements of every bridesmaid sitting out for me to see. And then asking me to experience the discomfort again for their benefit. I don't think so. read more

The store has beautiful dresses inside and I took my mother here to find a mother of the bride dress. We found the one she wanted and it was a size 8 so it was pinned for her to see what it would look like on and she loved it. The employee assisted us and measured my Mother saying she would need to order a 4. My mom was hesitant because she normally wears a 6 but the employee stated based on her measurements she would have extra room in the 4 still. So we ordered the dress. The dress came in and it did not fit. My mother couldn't even sit down in the dress. We measured the dress and it didn't match the measurements even on the tag! So this wasn't something necessarily the dress shops fault as I know they don't make the dress but the sizing was not correct! We took it to the store and showed them the dresses measurements we incorrect and they refused to help us saying we bought the dress as is. It was not a cheap dress whatsoever and we ended up having to see a seamstress to help so that she could actually wear it. Was a nightmare. read more

I went to several dress stores prior to coming to the dress shop and had 2-3 good options before I landed here. I wasn't really sure which direction to go after multiple visits to other stores but Jessica helped me find clarity and ultimately I found the dress I loved. They have the dresses very well organized by type and price tags are visible so you know what your working with. She had me pick out a few dresses and then she also picked out some based on what she thought I was looking for - one of which ended up being my dress! She also helped me pick out a veil and jewelry while there which was extremely helpful and took off added stress later in the planning process. Absolutely everything about finding my dress at TDS was perfect! I worked with Olivia and she was so amazing, made me feel comfortable and confident in any dress I tried on and listened to what I wanted in a dress while also giving me things to try on that were similar but that I would definitely not choose for myself. They offer complimentary Mimosas while you and your guests are shopping around the store for dresses to try on which is such a fun way to start. Private comfy fitting rooms as well with a couch for your guests. Just an overall wonderful experience, I cannot recommend this place enough. Lilly was awesome and super nice. She truly cared and helped me find a dress I did love but was unsure about because there was a dress at a different bridal salon I was still considering. The Manager was awful. She was so pushy when I said I wanted the night to think about it. She stated "what if you call back tomorrow and the dress is gone?" Like I can't just order one lol. Also didn't like that they only let you pick a certain number of dresses off the rack to try on. dresses were beautiful for the most part. I can't say enough wonderful things about this shop. I was looking for a Sophia Tolli wedding dress and roughly six stores in Michigan carry her line. Of those six stores, three had awful reviews on Yelp, two had okay reviews, and The Dress Shop had five stars. THERE IS A REASON FOR THIS!!!!! Rachel was wonderful and accommodating when all three ladies in my party were some degree of late. She got me settled in a room (more on that later), offered me water, coffee, or a mimosa, and asked me some questions about what I was looking for. When the first straggler arrived, she handed us some shower rings and let us know this color was ours- just slip it on the hanger. She gave us a tour of the store and away we went! If you wanted to see a dress on the mannequin, no problem! We spent about a half hour looking with no pressure, including several racks of sample dresses that were an additional 20% off. Rachel was wonderful while trying on dresses. You get your own room that has a curtain divider, so it's closed while you change and opened to show your party. I loved this feature. We went though the dresses in a yes/maybe or no fashion, and at the end we tried the others on again. She even pinned up the inner lining of one dress so we could see what it would look like if it was ordered in a different color. After trying on two dresses two more times each, I chose a sample dress that I fell in love with and took home that day. There was no pressure, and some helpful advice based on our wedding theme and our outdoor location. Rachel is a priceless asset to this store, and I could not give it a higher recommendation. I recently came in to dress shop to purchase my bridesmaid dress and had a wonderful experience. Mary was my consultant and was awesome. She was very knowledgeable of all the gown options and made the experience really easy. The shop is also really modern and chic compared to other places I've been to get bridesmaid dresses. As for the dresses, I remember seeing Mori Lee and Bill Levkoff, they might have other designers. They have samples in a range of sizes, up at least 22 (that I saw, they might have higher). I would say it's the widest range of sizes I've seen in a boutique, and I really appreciate that! I would definitely recommend this place! read more

I highly recommend the dress shop! I am getting married in October and the whole beautiful princess bride is vey overwhelming to me. I don't love to be the center of attention. The staff at the dress shop are amazing! I had already bought my dress, but I wished I walked into the Dress Shop first and started the whole process with them. Staff acknowledged me and welcomed me as soon as I walked in the door. I was looking for my jewelry for the wedding. They took the time to explain how much your hands will be photographed and the difference between a naked wrist without a bracelet and a wrist with a beautiful bracelet. It makes a HUGE difference and something I would have never thought of. I was overwhelmed by the idea of choosing jewelry, but they made it so easy! We started with looking at photos of my last dress fitting and looking at my engagement ring. I had just done my hair and make up trial- which was perfect timing to see how the jewelry really would tie in. We took it step by step and it was all so wonderful. I tired on the earrings and then the bracelet and both were absolutely perfect! There was so much guidance, patience and support - I really felt they cared about making my big day special. I never once felt like I was just a number or another sale to them, even just being there to get my bridal jewelry. They give everyone disposable slippers to wear during the appointment to keep the store nice and clean, offered champagne to us while looking at all the dresses on the floor, and really ensured that they wanted me to pick my dream dress, even if that meant it wasn't from them. My consultant was Jessie and I could not have been happier with the experience. She was extremely helpful and friendly and personable. She really understood what I was looking for and made some great suggestions. She made everyone I brought feel comfortable and gladly answered all of our many questions. My mom also got to try on a few dresses and she was really helpful with that as well. Unfortunately I was not able to order the dress I loved from her purely due to the fact that I live out of state and the timing of the fittings would have been difficult to travel back and forth for. My best friend was getting married across country. They had my dress in their store for over a month with no attempt to send it to me after I had already paid shipping.
