I have been to Drunk Monk a few times. It's nice that it is a bit more off the beaten path from the louder (messier?) parts of Old Town. The delight here is the patio area which is large and the wraparound feature is nice. Bars and restaurants get packed in Scottsdale but I have always appreciated that the staff never has a bad attitude. There are times you can't get seated right away, but they work with you on getting on the wait list. Food is great and not overly expensive. Of course with a name like The Drunk Monk you're likely coming for booze. The cocktail list leans tropical and to me, overly sweet. I usually don't like the signature cocktails and will usually order a basic classic cocktail (vodka soda, please!). Service can be slow. It's rarely the fault of the servers but more because of backups in the kitchen or at the bar. On my most recent visit, we had a server who was new. She was eager but seemed hesitant to connect. We specifically asked her to recommend a drink that wasn't sweet. What we were served was so sugary and syrupy. We were beyond disappointed. I think it was more of a training/newbie issue but it was a fail, especially as the restaurant wasn't too busy when we were there. The interior dining room is attractive (especially at night!). All in all, Drunk Monk is a nice visit when you have enough time and know what you want! read more

I was initially very resentful of the Drunk Munk because it replaced Cowboy Ciao, my favorite place in the whole world. But, the moment I walked in it was so cute I decided to get over my bitterness and angst. The bartender Luke turned out to be a high school friend of the friend I went in with and he was so so sweet. Really took care of us. We went in for happy hour and the prices were great because it was half off all apps and tiki drinks. I got the Hula Hula drink which comes in a super cute cup and was really tasty. I also split the crispy spicy crab dynamite with my friend and it was toooo dieeee forrrrr. Get it!!! That said, reading through the reviews I really would recommend to the owner to respond more nicely. People aren't slamming your restaurant just to be jerks, this is the experience they had and telling them to go elsewhere, that they have poor taste, that they've reviewed other places negatively looks more bad on you than it does on the reviewer. Take the reviews as a helpful aid on where you can improve (even if people have different tastes and you cannot always account for that) and offer help or concessions, not passive aggressive comments. If you can't do any of that, just don't respond. read more

Had a Dark and Stormy that was OK, and another drink that came in a mermaid cup that was pretty good. Also got some Korean BBQ skewers and coconut shrimp. I came here for the first time with some of my friends after work for happy hour. We just got a couple appetizers and drinks. The appetizers were half off on happy hour. They are all very small portions so you can't really share. The house sushi is also half off on happy hour. The sushi wasn't bad but it looked very sad on the plate. No garnishes or anything so it didn't look good to eat. Presentation is key! The place has a great atmosphere though, I just wasn't the biggest fan of the food. read more

Wow, huge disappointment and honestly most of the time you can read a restaurant by the lack of customers in the restaurant before even entering. We took a chance even though attendance was extremely light. It is very confusing as to where the front door is to be honest. It blended in with the exterior colors. Upon entering we waited as instructed by the sign at the host stand. A host stand unmanned is another flag. A gentleman walks up to the host stand and says to my partner and I, "How can I help you". Straight face, no smile or welcoming in. Normally you get a smile a welcome and something along the lines of, "Table for two tonight?". We got nothing and come to find this man was the manager. I told the man "We just wanted to get some drinks" and he chimed in saying with a nasty tone, "well do you want a table, do you want the bar, do you want outside?". We should have left but my partner was excited to try it out so we stayed. If you are unhappy with your job, unhappy with your night or unable to lead the restaurant through the behaviors you ask your team to exemplify for paying customers then it's probably not the best fit or position for you to work the host stand for the night. That same tone carried throughout the restaurant. The bartender was a nice lady but definitely not one to engage with her customers as well. The drinks were sub par. Didn't enjoy sitting right next to the speakers out on the deck, but maybe that's just me showing what a grandma I'm becoming. I got the orange chicken and it was great, but had such little meat for the price. The chicken was very deeply fried, so stay away if you're into healthy food. The fried rice was so satisfying. I shared the bottle rockets with my boyfriend, and they were great, but only two pieces?! Really? Wish they gave more for that price. He got the steak, which he said was decent, but he could've made himself. I tried it and liked it, but agree that it wasn't worth the price. Main issue was the portion or price for the items we got. I took my granddaughter here during Canal Convergence in Scottsdale. She had her obligatory hamburger and fries, but I had a few items from the hapy hour menu. The ribs were scrumptious, fall-off-the-bone tender and flavorful. The coconut shrimp -- yes, I could have had a few more of those. Light and fluffy and well seasoned. I must admit, I was stuffed by then, but I had ordered the grilled cheese sticks. Actually, it is not sticks at all. It is a grilled cheese sandwich. Very good! I love grilled cheese when it is made right. Lots of cheese. I did have the frozen bellini. I must admit, not a drink I'd order again. In fact, I didn't really finish it. Too tart for my taste. We were given the option of sitting in or out. Since the wait time for sitting outside was 30 minutes, and my granddaughter and I were hungry, NOW, we opted to sit inside. We might as well have sat outside since we were seated right now to a huge wall of windows, which were open. It was very busy, but our server was prompt, professional, and very friendly. She told us that you said to her, "that never happened" about our experience basically calling us liars. 3. You also promised to refund us the 18% gratuity that was automatically charged, that still hasn't happened. 4. Your manager refused to even speak with us when we asked for him when we were there. This review is mostly for the bottomless mimosas - which were indeed bottomless and free flowing on the patio on a recent Sunday. Our server was attentive and we didn't have to flag her down for refills which is always key. We had some edamame and spring rolls but can't really comment on the food. So this place is so cute in old town Scottsdale. I mean all tiki bars are fun right?! I met friends so I actually forgot to take pics of food ugh so unlike me however I got the shrimp tacos and they were great they reminded me more of a bang bang style shrimp and they came with guacamole and chips hubby had island burger said was good. My friend had this amazing salmon with pineapple and guacamole over mashed potatoes which was both unique and absolutely delicious! Had a fun drink and the menu has a lot of great choice from sushi to burgers to tacos so a little bit of stuff for all types and the drink menu is so fun. Drunk Munk is our new happy hour spot! After reading about it on ABC15 and knowing that it's close to home, we knew we had to come try it out. We went here on a weekday and enjoyed our time. So much so that we came back today! Really delicious spinach artichoke dip. With HH, it was only $7!!! Our frozen drinks are amazing too although you barely taste the alcohol. Super excited for this place to open! First off, only 4 stars as we didnt try the food this trip. Brunch will be forthcoming but was not available this weekend. For a place rhat has only been open for about 2 weeks it shows some serious staying power in the hard to please corner of Old town. Drink selection is large and true to tiki form, all were quite strong! The glassware was unique to each beverage and very photograph worthy. We especially enjoyed the Grotto, served in a huge oyster shell, with several straws to quench the thirst of our whole party. The only thing I really felt was missing is the dark, underground vibe of many other tiki bars I've been too. Otherwise we had a blast and will certainly be back. We stopped here for Happy Hour before walking the Scottsdale Canal Convergence. There was a 45-minute wait for outside seating but the inside was empty. We opted for inside with a table next to the door. The bartender was our server and was prompt to take our drink orders. we also ordered an appetizer (1/2 price for Happy Hour), Pot Stickers. Very tasty. We then ordered 2 more appetizers, Chicken Skewers, and Coconut Shrimp. Once again, very tasty. However, small plates and we were still hungry. So, another round of drinks and Spinach Artichoke Dip. This time the manager took our order as the place was busier and the bartender was busy keeping the drink orders flowing. We received our Artichoke Dip, but the drinks never came. No one came to check on us. After several minutes, I was able to catch the bartender's attention and she came over. She said either the drink orders were never entered or someone "knocked them off." She left and retrieved our drinks. when the bill came, the bartender did knock my second beer off the check. I liked the "Tiki" decore and the bartender/server was great. Next time we're in the area, we'll give it a shot again. read more

MJ took great care of us!! the wives got there first and had the tower of champagne that had 6 different flavors / ALL were spectacular - a little sweet for me / still good. Wanted a late night drink to quench our thirst as it was still 100 degrees so we sauntered into this tiki bar give it a try. The hostess explained it was free seating at the outside bar so we wandered through and grabbed a couple of chairs in the middle of the heat and noise of Old Town Scottsdale on a weekend evening. Drink prices were reasonable and my White Sangria was thirst quenching, as was my daughter's mocktail which was specially made by the bartender. It was a little difficult to order/pay for a drink as the lone bartender had to go inside often to resupply, but apart from that service was good. It was full and we had people waiting for bar seats as we paid so it is obviously popular for drinks...we didn't eat so can't review their food. read more

I would not recommend this place we came in and the our server was very unprofessional and rude. We had asked for a seat And she sat us at a nice clean table then she moved us to a dirty table. She cleaned the table off for us but did not wipe the chairs down, which had food from the previous people eating there. We sat down and our server seemed very overstimulated or maybe just having a bad day but instead of being professional and pushing her personal feeling or life aside she wanted to take her anger out on me and my whole table. She ended up denying my friend mobile id on the dmv app and had the manager come over and the manager was just flat out rude and instead of communicating with us he just told us "you guys have have yourself a goodnight" and we didn't order any food at all even though we had to ask for the menus instead of being seated with our menus. Drunk Munk 7133 E Stetson Dr., Ste 1, Scottsdale AZ 85251 October 30, 2021 Saturday - 6:30 PM for dinner and drinks 2 Adults Atmosphere - 4 stars Food - 4 stars Service - 4 stars Background - Date night and my wife wanted to take me to Old Scottsdale.  Most of the businesses roll up their side walk at 5.  Sad, but the restaurants and bars are already hoping.  I love tiki bars and drove by here while parking. Atmosphere - This is not the over the top kitsch tiki bar.  Still has most of the classic elements that make a place a tiki bar.  A giant Moai behind the bar, a puffer fish by the hostess station, thatch huts outside, and one of two massive tiki touches outside working.  Our table was in the path for the staff to go in and out to their customers sitting on the patio, a little too much traffic in that spot. Food Drinks - Happy Hour till 7 PM on a Saturday, bonus, which means half off of their drinks.  I had two drinks, and one for my wife.  I started with the Bikini Girl, wink wink, a drink that uses Pusser's Rum, pineapple and orange juice, with coconut cream.  $13.50 for that lady.  My wife had a Flower Goddess another classic, $11.50.  Then I finished the night with Hula Hula that is on the classic menu, I was not a big fan of this tequila based drink as the muddled jalapeno was overpowering $13.50.  The drinks are small and loaded with a lot of ice in the mugs, so full price I think I would be disappointed. App - Our host went through the happy hour deals, and sold us on the Bottle Rocket, Happy Hour till 7 PM with half off apps.  The Bottle Rocket basically egg roll with shrimp, cream cheese, sriracha, scallions, deep fried, skewered to make them look like the classic fireworks.  The two came with a side of sweet chili sauce.  My wife and I felt each our last bites were over loaded with cream cheese.  The heat from the sriracha was not present, perhaps cancelled by the cheese. Dinner - Really tacos on menu, I will skip that with so many places in area that can deliver on these as it is their thing.  I went with something more on the Polynesian, maybe not, Chicken Teriyaki.  The chicken had a nice char on it, server on a bed of rice and some pineapples slices on top of the chicken.  The rice was not mixed with the teriyaki sauce.  I found some large clumps of white rice, a little stirring the rice around solved that issue. Service - The host nailed customer service with updating us with the happy hour prices and recommendation after seating us.  The only down side was our two dinner plates came out at different times.  My dinner came out delivered by our waiter, waiting for my wife's meal, then my second drink arrived, again delivered by our waiter without a word.  Then a minute or so my wife's meal was delivered by a runner.
