Homemade Crème Brûlée
Lizeth S.

Very cozy French bistro located in the historic downtown area of St. Augustine. It's known for its intimate atmosphere, vast wine list, and classic French dishes. The owner is very hospitable and knows his menu like the back of his hand and made great recommendations. My partner who had failed scallops in a prior encounter elsewhere fell in love all over again with them here. They were cooked in a flavorful and delicious buttered wine sauce with asparagus; it was the perfect start. The sautéed shrimp was the freshest seafood I had tasted in the area. The crème brûlée was a perfect ending to a fantastic and epic class dinner.

This place doesn't have online reservations and didn't care to call to make one but walked right in and got sat fast. It was earlier in the night but it filled up with larger parties pretty quickly. Got waters and drinks quick too Foie gras were big pieces with a lot of toppings. Had good food flavor from foie with a lot of sweetness Scallops were nicely cooked and tasted just right Flatbread with lots of mozzarella and pesto was fantastic Great complimentary bread, asked for butter, it was cold butter In a historic house with an Airbnb above

Food was amazing! The food tasted fresh! Service was great and our server was always smiling. Very friendly! They went out of their way to accommodate us and our stroller! The outside seating was beautiful!

Loved this place. One of the best meals I've had all year. I ordered the mushroom risotto with shrimp and a Chardonnay. My husband ordered the French onion soup and a Brie sandwich. The food had so much depth. Definitely seems like the chefs take a lot of care in the dishes. We were seated right away despite it being crowded for Nights of Lights. Really charming place with a delightful meal.

I went to St Augustine to see Nights of Lights before they were taken down the end of January. And I did some research for a dinner spot with a friend and found the Drunken Horse on Yelp. I worried we would have a long wait for a table because they do not take reservations (except Valentine's Day). However we arrived at just the right time, 5:30 PM, and were seated immediately. By the time we left an hour later the restaurant was packed. There was outdoor seating in the front and back but it was a little too chilly that night so we sat inside near the bar. We asked our server to select a flat bread appetizer and he chose the ourgouignonne short ribs, caramalized onion, carrots with grugyere cheese. Indescribably delicious! A must try. For my entree I ordered the truffle mushroom risotto with arborio rice, shiitake mushrooms, parmesan and added shrimp. I normally do not eat rice but I'm so glad I tried something new because I loved it! It was rich yet smooth. I also tried my friends seared seabass which was so tender and flaky. Our server checked on us frequently and I appreciated his help with our appetizer. I will absolutely be back! It would be a great date night spot.

I love that St Augustine food scene is just exploding with new places! I had never even heard of this place, but Michelle found it and we decided to try it for dinner night out! Walking in it's small, dark and moody! We got a table and the mood felt like you just had to get a glass of wine! lol! Our server was even French! Now to the food, it was good! Loved the appetizer of Beef onion flatbread, smothered in cheese! yes please! Suprisingly I didn't love our entrees, they were both ok, The sea bass was kinda bland and the risotto seemed a little watery?! Almost like rice soup Excellent for the vibes, wine and apps tho!

This is a small intimate place so when we got there around 6:30 on a Friday, we expected to have to wait. He said 30 mins but they don't take down names or anything. Just seat as what's available. We only waited 15 so not bad at all. We shared the meat cheese plate and we loved it all. It was nice to try various cheeses I haven't had before but manchego will always be a fave. The duck breast was ok, I preferred the mousse more. I was full from apps so I shared the cod dish but man I wish I got my own. The cod melted in your mouth. We decided to skip dessert from here and try some place else but we really loved our time here and the service.

Had dinner here with friends on a Saturday evening around 5:30pm. They don't take reservations so we just walked in hoping we would get seated. We were seated very quickly indoors right next to the outdoor area. There was a larger party with a baby nearby and it got pretty loud in there since they don't have any sound deadening. Service was very attentive and friendly. Our server provided his recommendations for the cheese board and offered one cheese per animal: goat, sheep, cow. It came with crusty bread. Each cheese was delicious and unique and paired well with the bread. I ordered the Boeuf Bourguignon as my entree. The flavors were very bold and delightful. I just wish they included more vegetables. It was very meat heavy. I think I only got one potato piece and a couple small pieces of carrot. For a dessert, we shared one piece of the pistachio cake. It was slightly dry and not my favorite, wish we got the chocolate molten cake! Very cute restaurant and loved the ambiance. By the time we left the restaurant was very full and many people waiting outside to be seated!

Escargot

The most charming little French restaurant in town! The service was impeccable, and we had the pleasure of sitting at the bar, where our bartender truly stole the show. She was the sweetest, most attentive, and impressively efficient person in the entire restaurant. Though I can't recall her name, she was a petite, short blonde with an air of sophistication, always wearing a warm, genuine smile. Her knowledge and professionalism elevated our experience, making us feel like the most valued guests despite how busy she was. For appetizers, we indulged in the highly recommended Escargots au Beurre d'Ail--and oh my, it was divine. The escargots were perfectly cooked, tender, and bathed in an incredible parsley garlic butter sauce that begged for every last piece of bread to be dipped into it. We were so impressed that we couldn't resist trying the Pan-Seared Scallops. Cooked to perfection, they were complemented by a medley of fennel, tomatoes, shallots, and garlic butter--a harmonious blend of flavors that elevated the dish to new heights. For our entrées, we started with the acclaimed Boeuf Bourguignon, a masterpiece of slow-cooked short ribs in a rich red wine sauce with potatoes, carrots, and indulgent pork belly. The short ribs were so tender they melted in your mouth, and the flavors in every bite were beautifully balanced. The gravy was so exquisite we couldn't bear to leave any behind, eagerly soaking it up with our toast. Our second entrée was a showstopper: the Confit de Canard. This roasted duck leg was nothing short of spectacular--unbelievably moist, with a robust depth of flavor that solidified it as the best duck I've ever had. The sautéed haricots verts and port sauce were extraordinary, transforming simple green beans into something unforgettable. And the side of creamy garlic mashed potatoes was the perfect complement, tying this dish together flawlessly. To end this extraordinary meal, we savored the homemade Crème Brûlée. It was the epitome of dessert perfection--smooth, creamy, and topped with white raisins soaked in brandy, a delightful and creative touch that elevated the experience even further. By far, this has been our favorite hidden gem in St. Augustine. It's not just a restaurant; it's an experience. Every visit here will now be a cherished tradition whenever we're in town! P.S. Please forgive my dark pictures but I couldn't have my flashlight turning on in this warm ambiance.

Mushroom Risotto
Rachel D.

Beyond a 5-star experience for us. The service was fantastic and the food even more fantastic. Our waiter was very attentive and knowledgeable--even apologizing that our food wasn't out yet. We didn't think it took too long at all! Good food doesn't come out at microwave speed and we were enjoying our wine. I had the mushroom risotto and it was delicious. Flavorful and I enjoyed it so much. My husband had the Confit De Canard and it was absolutely mouth watering. We had a glass of ruby port and the crème brûlée for dessert as a perfect end to dare I say it... a perfect meal. We really loved our meal and evening here.

Brie sandwich with apple truffle butter in the back, seabass with roasted carrots in the front

This is the real deal! Very authentic French cuisine. We shared the brie sandwich appetizer - melty brie with an apple truffle butter, unbelievable flavor. For the entrée, we had the seabass which melted in your mouth like butter. Wine was perfect, and ambiance is excellent.

Pan Seared Scallops, with roasted red peppers, cherry tomatoes, mushrooms and greens. I think I could eat two of these as an appetizer
Bill M.

I've waited to write a review of a place this nice until I had visited a few times. Last night I had my second dinner, with a wine and appetizer visit sandwiched in between the two dinner visits. They make an effort to provide top-notch table service, good wines, and serve well-prepared, reasonably portioned French dishes. The appetizer options are varied. This is where they lost the fifth star. I had two very good appetizers last night; the Seared Scallops, and the Foie Gras. The scallops were done perfectly, with the cherry tomatoes, roasted red peppers and mushrooms complimenting the scallops very nicely. The Foie Gras was smoky, just fatty enough, and swimming in a bread-soak worthy reduction. (Side note: The bread is quite good.) These appetizers are highly recommended. On a previous visit, I was pleased with the Ginger Tuna Tartare, but very disappointed with the Escargot. I'll try them again, but for now, the overdone little guys on my previous trip made for a weaker experience. As for entrees, I've had the Mushroom Risotto, Boeuf Bourguignon, and I've tasted the Confit de Conard (the dish my lady had this evening, and she loved it). The Boeuf Bourguignon was good, and the Mushroom Risotto was very good. It could have been a little creamier, but I'm being very picky. Their wine list is extensive and of good quality. I'd like them to be a little more specific on the vineyard and year on their list, but so far I haven't had a wine I didn't like, so no harm. Service was very attentive and competent on every visit. It appears this is an area in which they make an extra effort to excel. It shows in small touches like a free Crème Brûlée. We had developed a pleasant rapport with the waiter (Peter, from Poland.. he's one to ask for) and the young lady that kept our water glasses full. They kindly rewarded our positive vibes with a very good dessert. Reservations are taken by phone. No online reservations were available for any of my visits, although, I didn't need one early in the evening, early in the week. They offer both indoor and outdoor seating. The decor is simple, but beautiful. In summary, this is a nice place to have a nice French meal. It is expensive, but you're downtown, eating unique fare, for St Augustine. Bon Appétit

(This is exciting for someone who is all this stressed out about parking, lol) We made reservations the morning of the branch and we were able to be accommodated. We were promptly seated when we arrived. Our server, Nina, was polite, attentive and patient with all our questions. She even gave us advice when we asked about some local areas to go check out after the meal. We sat indoors, though they were available outdoor options for seating. The decor was well done and seems pretty classy. The food was fantastic! We tried the deviled eggs, raw oysters with datil hot sauce, and escargot. I tried one of the off menu omelette selections, which was expertly made. We also tried the bouillabaisse and Branzino. Everything was cooked to perfection. We also tried the lavender crème brûlée, pot de creme and Paris -Brest. We thoroughly enjoyed those desserts! I will highly recommend this restaurant for a date night or special occasion. The quality of the food was excellent, and as such, I will return.

We had heard and read a lot of good things so we decided to give La Nouvelle a try. Very quaint and well appointed dining area - bistro vibes. They have a wrap around outside patio as well as part of their dining area but it's June in Florida so we made reservations for inside to not take any chances. The menu isn't huge, so check it out before deciding to dine here as I believe it can change regularly. My French onion soup was fantastic. If you don't order the petite baguettes, you're doing yourself a disservice. This is probably a top 3 bread experience for me. Crusty airy perfection. I went with the duck confit as I don't have many opportunities to order such a dish with the places we dine. The execution was solid - crispy and tender, flavorful, and accompanied by duck fat potatoes and red wine braised grapes. Extensive wine options along with beer but no liquor license. Our server Jessie was friendly and attentive while not overbearing.

She screamed at me as I tried to open up the refrigerator to get a cooled Sauvignon Blanc, not seeing the aggressive sign it was ONLY for the worker to touch the wine. Then she screamed at my daughter looking at an umbrella. Talk about anger issues! This shop was the exact opposite experience. I was greeted upon walking in, offered assistance to pick out wine and the owner engaged with my daughter. I was so much happier to spend my money here vs Fort Alley. I ended up getting some Italian reds, a New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc and some wines from my Paso Robles in Southern California, one of my favorite wine regions. I was hoping to get some Prosciutto but the shop was all out. The shopkeeper explained there was a rush from customers and she didn't get her regular order in. It was completely understandable. And appreciated her sharing why it wasn't available rather than being dismissive like at the previous wine shop I was at over at Fort Alley. I am so glad I came to this shop.
