Amarillo is really creating some zen places and The Drunken Oyster is one of my favorites! We chose to sit on the patio this visit, but the dark, speakeasy-feeling inside is always a vibe. White Sangria was the drink of choice this evening and wow! How refreshing. I definitely had more than one. Food choices were the salmon ceaser salad and the scallops and mushroom risotto. What a disappointment! Had hoped for better after looking at the menu. We arrived and were seated promptly. The ambience is great and a guy was playing guitar and singing. So far so good - but that's about the only good we experienced. It took over 10 minutes for a server to show up and take our drink order. That worried us so we ordered our appetizer at the same time. It was supposed to be charbroiled oysters with roasted garlic butter, white wine, bread crumbs and Cajun spices. What we got were piles of bread crumbs engulfing oysters about the size of a pea with no discernible sign of garlic butter or white wine. The oysters tasted like overcooked liver. I've eaten many types of oysters and oyster dishes and this was, without a doubt, the absolutely worst oyster dish I have ever had. At this point, we are 40 minutes in and we can't find our server to take our dinner order. By the time he got there we were so unhappy it made no sense to stay. Came in for rodeo. Found this on Yelp and food/ drinks looked good. We arrived at 2:30-3pm Open area and service was great. Server took great time in talking us through drinks and even made sure everyone liked before she walked away. Had a dozen and half of oysters, amazing. First off, this review isn't based off of the drink selection or food here. This is more based off of the service my wife and I received at the bar from the bartender. Drink selection between wines, whiskeys, beers, and more was fantastic. Also didn't have any food when we dropped by. But our bartender was extremely rude to my wife and I when we dropped by the other night. Bartender rolled her eyes at my wife when she suggested what wine she wanted. She also had a tone the rest of the night that sounded like she didn't want to serve us. The bartender also only checked on us probably once or twice in our visit there and didn't give us a warning about the kitchen closing or last call. Overall I would go back here again to try the food and for the drink selection. Also didn't mind the rest of the staff that greeted us at the door. I realize too maybe our bartender was having a bad night. Just hope for better service at the bar next time. read more

Today we visited the Drunken Oyster, Amarillo, TX. . Try out this little gem. Their level of excellence surpasses plenty. The catfish was a bit undercooked the chef remedied it, took it off the tab in principle. . The dish was excellent light and plated fancy. Every course was tasty and enjoyable. The waitstaff and service was excellent. We sure enjoyed our night here. Go try the food. They also have a truly well stocked bar. They are still masked. Took my son here for his birthday lunch. First time so I didn't know what to expect! Really nice place. I had the Cajun pasta and he had the fish & chips. He said it was the best he had ever had. My pasta was very good too. It was a little pricey but good! Will be back! read more

Wow! Wow! This resturant make me want to move to Amarillo! Really- its that good. Hosted a lunch for 75 today and what a treat. Spot on with service, environment, and food! We ordered the ahead of time so that they would know what are large group was wanting and it made for a very smooth lunch meeting. I won't get the names right but the seafood fondue was absolutely fantastic, even the chicken tenders were spectacularly seasoned and I enjoyed shrimp and grits which was phenomenal. First time here. Upscale sports bar / restaurant type. Fried catfish appetizer is way more than one can eat unless it's your only meal. Very good spicy dish. Caesar salad I suggest passing on. It is a very thin vinegar Caesar dressing .... not a fan. The parasaean slices on it are good. The kitchen Gumbo comes in a bread bowl and is by far the winner of the 3 named above. Now to the main courses.... so if you like traditional etouffee.. pass. This is loaded with tomatoes and zuccini and micro crawfish... but we are a long way from the coast. I have to keep in mind I grew up near both Lousiana and the coast so my tastes are more traditional. But if you like Ratatouille, then you are in for a treat if you order the etouffee. It has essences of both ratatouille and etouffee. Tastes good. Now you want a great dish? Try the scallops with risotto and asparagus. Winner dish for tonight. Delightful. I think the chef is going for more experimental concept for cajun maybe. So I give it 4 stars for creativity. Service Team is wonderful. BTW, the portions are VERY generous. read more

Wandered into this space on murder mystery night. Hillarious. I sat at the bar and enjoyed the show and live music. There is live music daily. The group tonight was awesome, jazzy. I ordered a shrimp poboy. The flavor was good but as my photo shows, only 3 shrimp. That is a first I cut the bread in half and ate the 3 shrimp. Flavorful for sure but not worth 15 bucks. The place was busy as flash flood warnings bleeped and the heavens opened. However the live music was atmospheric, the grilled oysters delicious, the cajun alfredo top notch, the blackened catfish spicy, the andouille and squid zesty.......all in all a delicious supper. Daniel our sever was a true professional who was in touch with clients and also had a confident demeanor. A real gem of a place in a town that we felt lacked a heart in its old centre. Driving through, decided TDO was the place to go. Everything about the meal and service was good. The waitress really worked to make sure we were taken care of. The appetizer was tasty, we had the calamari. All three of my tables entrees were awesome. Here's the reason I don't give that fifth star. The price to portion ratio took me by surprise. I get it and maybe I just don't want to accept it, it's seafood in Amarillo. To get fresh cannot be cheap. Maybe that's on me, I've been called worse than cheap before. You could set this restaurant down in New Orleans and it would stand out. Leah our waitress was the best. They allowed our doggo on the patio, did not offer water though. We had a dozen oysters they were phenomenal. Husband had loaded catfish was delicious and I had the Cajun creole with fish and chicken. We also tried the gumbo in the bread bowl . The flavors are fantastic here, perfectly spiced. We were driving through from St Louis we have been to New Orleans several times, so I would say this doesn't top Commanders Palace and Conchon I still have some things to try though, but it's most definitely better than 99% of the restaurants in New Orleans and that is a big deal. Would not recommend wasting money here. The food is extremely over priced. It's entirely too dark to dine. You will need your flashlight if you intend on reading the menu or seeing the food. Parking is very limited. The only thing this place has going for itself is the Drag Queen Brunch. Good to see a business support the LGBTQ+ community. read more

Very good, upscale, cajun cuisine and raw oyster offerings, neat patio, and jazzy (not overdone) interior. I was born in New Orleans so I'm fairly well versed in good (and bad) cajun food. Drunken Oyster is def on the far side of good. Fondue was good, though I didn't care for the bread that comes with it - seemed like toasted, stale pieces of yesterday's fresh bread. Fondue was a rich cheesy sauce with a few small shrimp, crawfish and andouille pieces. Very tasty. Fried catfish bites with spicy remoulade - WOW. Super clean, white fish nuggets, prob 1/2 pound total, fried to perfection and served w/ a spectacular remoulade sauce for dipping. Even my non-seafood-eating better half REALLY liked the catfish. She ordered southern fried chicken strips. Not a very upscale choice but again very well made and hard not to like. Anita was our server. She was very sweet and helpful. We had several tough questions for her and she got us an answer asap. We were a bit ignorant of the whole absinthe scene so Anita enlightened us on how it's been legalized in the US and also on serving methods using the glass contraptions.
