Great place for a weekend lunch! We had a large group (adult + kiddo) and were quickly seated and had great service. We got the Party of 6 meal and it was TONS of food. Two whole chickens fried to perfection, multiple sides (mac n cheese, mashed potatoes and skillet cornbread) and a large serving of the kale salad (which I highly recommend). Be sure to also check out their bacon as an appetizer...so good! We didn't eat outside due to weather, but they have a great outdoor patio. I truly regret not getting pictures of the amazing food at this place! I'd heard of this Bardstown Rd staple a few times and finally decided to try it out. And when they say they specialize in fried chicken here, they aren't kidding! I went with a friend, we both got a half chicken (you can order it as white or dark meat! So, of course I ordered dark) and we ended up getting the baked macaroni and cheese, horseradish mashed potatoes, and homemade biscuits with jam as our sides. And oh boy. I hurt myself lol. They bring the fried chicken out in sections (thigh, wing, and drumstick for the half dark), with a spicy honey sauce on the side which is AMAZING. The sides, which are meant to be shared between at least 2 people, are brought out in little cast iron skillets which elevates the whole experience. Everything was delicious! I found The Eagle after checking yelp for something different while visiting Louisville. This place is small and unique. I sat at the bar, the bartender was very attentive. The menu is very limited, especially for someone that doesn't eat Chicken on a bone. (Found out after I was almost done that there is a Boneless Cutlet in the Secret menu; next time) I had the hush puppies, bacon and Grits. I was NOT expecting the heat in the grits, but they were good. The bacon was delicious and I could live on that. The hush puppies were a perfect balance of yumminess. Worth it!!! This place is delicious. A friend and I went on a random Thursday night and sat at the bar for dinner and drinks. The bar is nice by the way. The food here was ON! Even after the bar staff gave their spiel I was skeptical. All the fancy language of chicken prep was a bit much and I thought they were doing the most when it came to describing the preparation process. But danng! I get it now. The chicken was some of the best I've ever had, the sides were off the charts and ample. We split fries, mac and cheese and greens. It was delicious! I really liked the location and the atmosphere inside it was nice. It is definitely a spot I will go back to soon. Went here with my family -- a party of 3 adults and 2 kids. We went around 2PM, the restaurant was empty, we were greeted by a friendly gentleman, were sat promptly, and was given a high chair and coloring things for the kids. The waitress visited our within 5 minutes of us sitting, took our drink and appetizer order. We ordered the Brown Sugar Bacon and the Corn Nuts. The bacon was delicious. It was savory, sweet, spicy, and yummy! My only complaint is that the bacon wasn't crunchy enough, but the flavor definitely made up for the texture of the bacon. The kids didn't eat the bacon. The Corn Nuts were a table-wide hit! The hominy was.. fried? I don't even know, but it was crunchy, delicious, and perfectly seasoned. The corn nuts came with a side of lime which brought the appetizer to a different level! After we totally demolished the appetizer, our waitress came back and took our food order. The kids ordered chicken (older one got two drum sticks and the younger one got a chicken cutlet), the adults ordered the braised pork sandwich and the fried chicken sandwich. The table shared mac N cheese, mashed potatoes, spoon bread, and fries. It was A TON of food, but well worth it. The braised pork and the fried chicken sandwiches were equal contenders. Both were extremely yummy. The pickles, chicken, and slaw was a perfect marriage of flavors.. The pickles, cheese, pork, and cheese were SO good too! If you can't decide which sandwich to get, just get both. Hah! The table favorite, hands down, was the spoon bread. That was the first thing gone! The kids loved the sweet and salty of it. We loved the crust on the edges and the chunks of corn. The fries were skinny, crunchy, and served with a garlic aioli. The mac n cheese was super rich, made with 5 different cheeses with some crunchy garlicky deliciousness on top. The horseradish mashed potatoes were the kids least favorite. But the adults loved it as well. The entrees were the perfect size. The sides were all sharable. All the food and drinks were delicious. The decor was nice, the chairs were comfy, the bathroom was extremely clean, and the staff was super attentive and their service went above and beyond our expectations. The next time we are in Louisville, we will make it a point to come back to The Eagle. I'm so glad we don't live closer, otherwise we'd be here every day. I will say right off the bat I'm not about gnawing chicken off the bone and I almost exclusively prefer white meat. This restaurant has an excellent reputation for fried chicken. I (of course) didn't even try that. I went for a sandwich as did my friend. The chicken sandwich was SO good. I loved it and keep thinking about when I can go back to eat here again. My friend had the sloppy joe and seemed to enjoy hers just as much. My only complaint was the wait staff. They seemed a bit hodgepodge. I hope this improves over time. I asked for tea and a glass of water. The water never came. We got fries as a side. We asked for ketchup - twice. The waiter carried our food out and then someone else took the food off the try and "auctioned" off the food. There were two of us. Of course if he couldn't remember I wanted water I suppose he didn't know who ordered what. Again the service could have been better but the food is going to keep me coming back. One of the few places in Louisville and in the Highlands that offers full menu past 10pm. We ordered quarter chicken, I got white meat (breast and wing) and fiance got quarter dark (2 legs and a thigh). Chicken is served with spicy honey which is not needed but amazing to add. Sides were shareable, we got mac and cheese, really cheesy and a smoky flavor (no doubt gouda). Also ordered collard greens, my fiance loved them, I prefer mine a little more spicy but good greens nonetheless. Also, ordered spoonbread, only negative thing to say, i wish it had more butter. This is one of my top restaurants to come to in Louisville, the service industry is hard yall. And the server & manager even during a busy Sunday night made sure my party of 3 was accommodated. I brought an out of towner and she was very impressed with the food and service. The restaurant ran out of collard greens & also forgot to bring us the biscuits we ordered instead. However after telling the server politely we never received them and to not add it to the bill we were given them anyways and the manager and server both Apologized. We went to the eagle in Cincinnati a few weeks ago and had an amazing experience. Some of the best southern food we've had. So when on a trip with friends of course we wanted them to try it in Louisville. They were out of half their sides. No shrimp and grips, no biscuits, no greens, no Mac and cheese. Said they didn't have many drumsticks left. They were out of lemonade and iced tea so we couldn't get any drinks with that. So we ordered our food and drinks and the waitress comes out and said they don't have the beer we ordered (Miller lite). Then ordered a coors lite and she came back and said they didn't have that either. Said the only lite beer they had was bud light. Our friends wanted to leave then but we still said the food was worth it. When they bring out our chicken dip is was only half filled. Then they came to drop off silverware and said they didn't have any clean silverware and dropped off plastic utensils. The food was ok at best. The corn bread they spilled half the sauce down the side of the pan so it was dry. When we asked for real silverware to be able to eat out chicken the manger brought out silverware and threw his staff under the bus and said "I don't know why you were brought plastic, there was clean silverware". The manager never acknowledged anything that happened with us. Never apologized for anything. We were a table of 8 and clearly upset with everything and he didn't feel the need to come talk to us at all. They originally told us around 45 min to an hour but we were seated within 25 minutes. The menu is not super varied but they have good choices. I got the quarter dark chicken, the mac and cheese side, and the biscuts. The sidea are served kinda family style so get a few and share with who you are with. I enjoyed the chicken which was nice and crispy and each of the sides, but forgot to try the spicey honey. Before we get into the food, I want to first touch on the wait staff... Mattie waited on us and she was outstanding as a server. She was courteous, attentive to our needs and whenever I thanked her, she responded with, "My pleasure" which to me is always the sign of a server who cares about her customer service. She also was big on pre-bussing our table (can you tell I used to wait tables?) to remove any discarded or empty dishes. Also the server teamwork here is above average! I hate to admit this but this may be the place to go when you just want to drown your sorrows in food and liquor. The entire menu is comprised of comfort food. Now for dinner! The fried chicken is extremely crunchy and the mashed potatoes will make anyone's bad day turn good. The Eagle had a great selection of beer with an easy to read menu, and even better, the server was very knowledge about the brews they served. There was not as many choices with the food, however, they advertised their award winning fried chicken. My girlfriend and I got a sausage queso appetizer and half a chicken. The chicken was awsome and in the top 5 best chicken I've ever tasted. It was a little spicy, but it was served with honey. The honey and the spice was a great combination and we could have eaten a whole chicken. If you're in the mood for great beer and good comfort food, this is the place to go. The manager came over to ask us how the meal was which is always nice when you're dining. The chicken was cooked well but not on par with other places in town. Welcome to Louisville! I'm so excited the Eagle has landed! The hot honey chicken cannot go wrong! My work friends and I have a tradition called Payday Chicken (disclaimer-- we don't do it every two weeks lol). So how fitting for the first Friday for the eagle to be open to land on Payday. Chicken day! We have all eaten at the OTR location before so everyone knew what to expect. We wanted to get the 8 piece dark but the menu indicates this is in limited availability. We asked for it and got shot down. The whole table got quarter darks anyway, so not really sure what that was about. Either way, the chicken was fabulous with the hot honey. Anyway, you can't go wrong with the sides! Order them all and order to share. I love the kale salad, but today we got the mac n cheese and spoon bread. Because carbs. I wish that this location also had the maque choux that the OTR location does-- maybe in due time. The ambience is great-- it still has the same layout at El Camino, but they have great spaces for large parties and an upstairs loft with a tv screen.
