Thoroughly OK. I had the fried chicken, housemaid pickles and a beer. As far as the fried chicken goes, it was mediocre. The definition of nothing special. The skin was a little soggy, and the spices were average. Moist enough inside, but more on par with KFC then any local place. For a place that advertises fried chicken, they need to either make it better or switch to a different speciality. The chef should head a few blocks away to Chicken King to get a feel of what it could be. The pickles were vinegary with a nice snap. Excellent. However, they were served on a rimless disc that the waiter couldn't manage. Pickles fell on the tray, my table and the floor on the way to meet me. The beer menu looks interesting. Maybe the rest of the menu is better, but if you are looking for good fried chicken this is a pass. read more

Awesome place to get some local food. They have a simple menu and a great beer/wine/cocktail selection. Plenty of side options and appetizers to choose from as well. YOU HAVE TO TRY THE BROWN SUGAR BACON, it's a must! The service is prompt and friendly and the atmosphere is fantastic: big outdoor seating area, big family style tables where you can interact with the other folks sitting there, and of course private seating and the bar. Personally, I like the chicken sandwiches instead of the chicken pieces because a few times I got the chicken, they were a little greasier than I'd like. Delicious but greasy. But holy crap, the spicy honey that comes with it is good enough to drink lol. The portion sizes are big so you're going to be leaving pretty full. Came here for a date night dinner and was very impressed! The 1/2 chicken is perfect to split with another person if you get plenty of sides! He had reservations for dinner at The Eagle on Bardstown Road yesterday with our son and his girlfriend and family. We often make reservations here when we come to town to visit our son in college as it is hard to get a table without waiting most places. I must say, this location has really gone down hill lately. The service is extremely slow and bad and the food subpar. We had to wait forever for drinks and appetizers and two of the appetizers never arrived. Upon inquiring, the waitress asked if we had placed that order with someone else as she had not written it down?! Our food later came and the food was cold and we were missing a meal. Two different people, maybe managers, later brought out my sandwich and the "missing" appetizers with our meals. The chicken sandwiches were all cold when they arrived, like they had been sitting in the kitchen for God knows how long before being brought out. There was never a single apology that I can recall. The bill with tip was over $100 for three people for three cold chicken sandwiches, two sides, two appetizers, and two drinks. We have cut this place slack in the past due to COVID, but no more. We will find another restaurant in Louisville to visit when we come to town. read more

My friend and I came in Sunday for drinks. We asked Ben if he could make a Gold Rush. He said he'd never made one but would look up the recipe. We looked it up as well. He came back to us and said he could make it if we had time for him to make the honey syrup. We were nervous but agreed since he went out of his way to please us. So the food and the drinks here are delicious, the atmosphere is incredible and the staff is incredible! The reason I have to give this a 3 and not a 5 is for some reason, every time my boyfriend and I eat there, we have the worse stomach aches afterward. 1st time visiting, dinner for two. We were promptly seated, per the recommendation ordered the whole fried chicken $19 and split 2 sides collards and macaroni and cheese. WOW, 3 minutes later the food was in front of us, yes 3 whole minutes. The fried chicken was warm, dark brown and greasy, did have decent flavor but was a bit tough, no crispy skin. On business in Louisville, and being from Chicago, we relied on Yelp to give us suggestions. We chose The Eagle as it looked interesting. When we pulled up I must admit, I wasn't overly impressed. The exterior didn't scream eat here. However when we walked in we were immediately welcomed by a very enthusiastic and genuinely friendly staff. We sat down in what I gather was the main bar room. It had the ambience of a local gin joint, but as you looked around there were several groups of people obviously enjoying themselves. The waitress asked if we were from out of town and suggested the fried chicken as that was their specialty. So we went with fried chicken, the mac and cheese, and a sweet potato bake. Every item was a five-star hit. The Fried Chicken had a certain spice to it that made it outstanding. The mac and cheese was not your normal noodles with cheese on it. It had a sort of "crouton-ey" crumble mixed in that made it outstanding. I would seriously consider going there in ordering a double portion as a main course. But the hit of the meal was absolutely the sweet potato concoction. It was a baked and mashed version with brown sugar and topped with mini marshmallows that were intentionally burned on top. It was like eating a sweet potato s'more. Unlike any kind of sweet potato creation that I had ever experienced. It was amazing. My only problem with the place is that it wasn't in Chicago, so I can't go back there on a regular basis. If you are ever in the Highland neighborhood of Louisville, make sure you don't miss this Hidden Gem. read more

If you're looking for American cuisine that reminds you of true home cooking, look no further. The food is outstanding, it taste amazing, came out quick, and is priced more than fair. We just ate here tonight with a party of four and it was one of the best local restaurant experiences I've had in Louisville. Our server Henry was absolutely great, very attentive, polite, and personable. I will be enjoying this establishment again and again. Tonight was rainy and nasty so we didn't get to try out the outdoor area, but we will be looking forward to that's as well. Amy went above and beyond for all us guys who came in from all over the country to celebrate a marriage for a close friend and family member. We had no idea what fantastic service and phenomenal meal we were about to have until the family style meal rolled out and my goodness everything about the food was the best. I go here basically whenever I'm in a 1hr drive of Louisville. THE BEST fried chicken sandwich I've ever had. It's perfectly cooked and juicy with beautiful coleslaw (I normally hate coleslaw but this is so good). Definitely a messy eat and you will need a nap after. Haven't bothered to try the rest of the menu because this is so good, but I'm sure the rest is great too. Good beer selection to go with it read more

Today the internet gods smiled on me. I was looking around online for a place to have dinner and The Eagle popped out at me. They have a very nice looking establishment in the Cherokee Triangle area. We arrived around 615 and were seated promptly. Laura came by to introduce herself shortly after that and gave nothing but exceptional service for the rest of our visit. She was very knowledgeable about the menu and made some fantastic suggestions. I had seen their pork sandwich online and was determined to try that prior to sitting down. However, after having g seen and smelled the chicken, our party decided to share a whole chicken plus some sides. We also ordered the artichoke and greens dip as an appetizer. We all thought this was a really good appetizer except that we would have preferred pita pieces rather than tortilla chips, but, that's a small matter. For dinner we got the fried chicken, pimento Mac and cheese, horseradish meshed potatoes, spoon bread and Cole slaw. Everything arrived in good time and it was obvious that everything was freshly prepared. There was not one aspect of the main meal that we would have changed. Again, Laura was a large part of our positive experience here. Her unobtrusive service and friendly attitude really enhanced the experience. All in all, it was pretty amazing. Too bad that I can't give another course of stars. We will definitely return. Oh, I almost forgot to mention this. They serve a spicy honey to dip your chicken in, at least they say it's for the chicken. I personally think you could put it on about anything. Do not pass on the honey, it too is delicious. Three people left very full, with a couple of alcoholic beverages thrown in for 65 dollar. Plus, leftovers for lunch tomorrow. Go and try them. read more

I'm a little late writing this review.. we were there a couple of months ago. We found this restaurant online and wanted to try it because of all the sides they offered. We stopped in for lunch and we were seated right away. The waitress was wonderful.. explained our options and said their fried chicken was the best. Well, she wasn't wrong. I had the fried chicken and my husband had the sloppy joe sandwich. Now, the sides... we shared the sweet potatoes, Mac and cheese, spoon bread and grits. Sweet potatoes were amazing and my husband said the grits were the best he has ever had. The Mac and cheese wasn't our favorite. There was nothing wrong with it, just not a favorite and we order Mac and cheese a lot. The spoon bread was good but the butter that goes with it was delicious! We asked the manager on the way out if they were opening a location close to Nashville and he said they were looking for locations. Yeah us!! He also recommended a sister restaurant for us to try!! The mac and cheese is definitely the best mac and cheese I have ever had out, it was delicious. The fried chicken was crispy, cooked to perfection, and with a little heat-delicious as well.
