I opted for breakfast while the mister decided he wanted lunch. Ham Eggs Benedict with home fries for me and a turkey sandwich with onion rings for him. Home fries were really good and so were the onion rings. Eggs Benedict was alright, and the turkey sandwich was decent. Our server was friendly and seemed to know quite a few patrons . Great service and great food! The bakery has an excellent selection of sweets, and the prices are very fair for the quality you receive. Located in the heart of Old Town Redlands, the atmosphere is charming and traditional, with beautiful brick-lined surroundings and colorful flowers that make the experience even more enjoyable. What stood out most today was the sense of community and kindness. I especially want to thank our veterans and active military members for their service and sacrifice. Diane and I returned here for lunch after a doctor's appointment. And this time I followed through to try a Southwest Meat Lover's Skillet with Home Fries, ham, sausage, cheese and eggs. It was both tasty and filling, and I washed everything down with a perfectly ripe slice of orange in my Iced Tea. Buttered Sourdough Toast with homemade Apricot Jelly enhanced the repast. I came here for the bakery. Everything looked so good, I couldn't decide. I ended up purchasing 2 large cookies to go. I ordered (1) S'mores cookie and (1) Twix cookie. I rarely leave negative reviews but the experience was disappointing from start to finish. The woman at the register was rude and made us feel unwelcome from the moment we arrived. The food portions were surprisingly small for the price, making the meal feel over priced. On top of that, we felt rushed throughout out the visit. Before we had even finished eating, staff came by asking if we were done, which made it difficult to relax and enjoy our meal. Customer service is a big part of the dining experience and unfortunately it fell short here. The one exception was the gentleman who brought us our drinks. He was friendly, courteous, and the only one who made us feel like a valued customer. The best part of the morning was the company that I was with. Made it to The Eating Room just in time (they stop seating in the restaurant at 2:30 pm). It was a weekday near closing so there was a lot of space, and we were able to get a booth. Our friendly and attentive server was Amber. We got the corned beef hash and Frisco burger. They were so good! Potato wedges were super crispy. Service was great, too. While waiting we got some cookies in the attached bakery. The Swedish Oatmeal is my fave. Also got a Dubai chocolate chip and an oatmeal raisin. My husband and I went in mid afternoon just to have a dessert, the place was pretty empty but it took awhile for someone to come to take our order. It's very strange that you're not greeted, you seat yourself, menus and silverware on the table, kinda do-it-yourself hospitality?! We ordered carrot cake and coffee, the girl went to the bakery and brought back a cold carrot cake wrapped in plastic wrap. We had to unwrap it, cut it and serve it ourself. I thought that was weird. Upon leaving we noticed the Health Dept card in the window with a C rating!! Looked it up and this place has many serious violations with the warning that food borne illness is possible. We were just passing through Redlands and googled places to eat. We found this little gem. Great atmosphere, great service and great food. They have a cute little bread and pastry store connected to it. We bought some homemade banana nut bread and sourdough bread with a olive spread. Wow delicious. We ate at the restaurant I got the eggs Benedict and it was the BEST I have ever had. My dad got the Rueben Sandwich and he loved it. My husband got the sinful bread pudding and WOW amazing. Here I am standing for a while with so many workers who saw me, looked at me, but did not pay mind to at least acknowledge my presence and say hey we'll be with you in a minute. We've been coming here for years and have always loved the bakery. I've lived in Redlands my entire life and love supporting the local businesses. We decided to come for a late breakfast, which I had done recently and was greatly disappointed so I thought I'd give it another chance. This place used to be so much better and we'd eat here pretty often. But the last few visits have been horrible. It was busy so we waited about 20 min for a table which was understandable. After being seated we ordered our drinks but then didn't see a server for what seemed like 20 minutes. After our food order was taken, my coffee was only offered to be refilled once, and it took over AN HOUR for our food to be brought to the table. When it arrived it was cold and none of us wanted to eat anymore due to sitting there for an hour basically being ignored. Our server Allison seemed nice but was not attentive at all and barely came to check on us. I understand it can get busy in restaurants, but they seemed to have a lot of staff so I'm not sure why we waited over an hour for cold food. I joined my mother and stepdad for a lunch here on 10/27 for the first time. They are regular customers here so I expected the service to be quite warm and hospitable. From the moment we entered we were told by the hostess (who was wearing try that in a small town tee shirt) to take any table with a menu. We asked if we could wait for a booth that needed to be cleared she seemed visibly annoyed and told to us to wait in the hallway which we did. We went to the bakery and ended up buying a cookie. By the time we were done we saw the table had been cleaned. We headed to the table and the same girl yelled at us from the cash register to stop because there were no menus on the table yet and we had to wait until there were menus on the table and for us to go back to the hallway to wait. She had a major attitude which instantly made me feel very uncomfortable and unwelcome. I was in disbelief and my mom said she wasn't usually like that. Finally we saw them put menus down on the table and I asked her if it was ok if we sat down now and she said yes with a huge attitude and just stared at me. I was wondering what I had done to offend her? The actual server was so nice and kind and took care of us. She obviously knew my parents and treated us like regulars. The food was great and there were a lot of great vegan options which I greatly appreciated. This is the only reason the review is getting more than 1 star. My mom had surprised me with a small vegan chocolate cake as an early birthday present. We were very excited to eat the cake when we got home. When we finally cut into the cake it was filled with so much buttercream that it was unstable and hard to cut. The cake was in no way shape or form chocolate. It was very clearly a yellow cake it was supposed to be chocolate with raspberry and neither of those flavors were there. It was a yellow cake with buttercream frosting. This cake was $40 for 5 slices. I told my mom to call the bakery and let them know that they had messed up. When she did she was gaslighted and told that was "their" chocolate cake, there was absolutely no offer to correct the situation and the bakery manager was quite defensive. There was no chocolate anywhere in this cake. I was so disappointed start to finish on how we were treated especially how often and loyal my mom and stepdad are with eating here. I was also disappointed how much we paid for this experience between lunch and the cake well over $100. I can safely say I will never return to this restaurant or recommend it. Lastly how they treated my mom was inexcusable and she deserves either a full refund for that cake or an offer to remake it correctly. read more

I've been coming here for over a decade so, overall I would recommend this and will continue to eat here. The food is always good and the menu has a lot of variety. I appreciate that they serve breakfast the entire time they're open. We usually have either great service or just okay. This last time our server really didn't check on us often, even though she went to tables around us. Other servers did offer refills every time they passed us however. Parking can be tight on the street, but the structure across the way is always a great option. They've remodeled the decor within the last few years, and they've definitely packed in more tables to accommodate the busy times. Always stop at the bakery on your way out. read more

I give this a 5 for unique and rustic ambience as it's a cool set up and place for such a long-standing restaurant. The food was ok at best, comparable to a local Denny's or IHOP. I had the eggs, sausage and waffles. Service wasn't good. There was a mistake in the order but no apology for the server. We didn't have the smiliest server. The cashier asked how everything was and I said "okay" and she was not pleased nor did she follow up on that. The place was packed so I'm sure there's some greatness in there that I hadn't experienced on this particular visit. I would give the $16 burger I ate 4 stars. It had good flavor and the ambiance was fun. The service, however, was 2 stars. We waited a long time to be seated, and once we were seated, the waitress took another 10 minutes to greet our table. When she finally greeted us, it was with a snarky attitude. She didn't even come back at the end of the meal to ask, *"How was everything?"* The kitchen staff brought some of our food, but when we flagged down a different waitress because ours was nowhere to be found, she snapped at us and acted like we'd asked for her firstborn child. When we went to pay, we noticed they had already added the gratuity to the bill. A gratuity is supposed to be a thank-you for good service, not an automatic addition. Maybe that's why the service was so terrible--our waitress didn't have to work for her tip. read more

Mind you, the servers come by frequently offering to top off the coffee. No mention of their intent to charge you full price for topping off the coffee. I was shocked to find out later how they were price gouging. Maybe I am just getting old, but most places I have ever been to never charged for refills. Good food, horrible service! Clearly, this business's namesake doesn't care about how her business is run. Maybe she isn't alive anymore. Who knows. What I will say is that good food should never justify astonishingly bad customer service. I have been patronizing Martha Green's for more than 20 years and can honestly say that, in the roughly half a dozen times I dined there, that I never encountered timely and polite customer service. I went there for the last time about a week ago with a longtime friend I was reuniting with. I mistakenly had the faith to believe things there may have changed, but nope! We had to wait about 20-25 minutes to get our order taken and about 40-45 minutes thereafter to get our food. Our waitress never refilled my coffee and operated like an automaton. I can't even recall a time where a waitress or host (do they even have one?) provided a friendly greeting when I walked into the place. The words "too busy" should not be in the vocabulary of a successful restaurant. Busy is a blessing, and proper adjustments should be made if that is the case to ensure quality service, along with quality food. If one part of the machine is missing, the machine breaks down, sooner or later. Clearly the owner doesn't even look at Yelp or other review sites to gauge customer satisfaction, for if she did she would do something about it. If she has, and has seen the plethora of negative reviews, most pertaining to poor service, and chose not to do anything about it, then she clearly doesn't care. Either way, I am done with this place. Redlands Public Market and the many new and great restaurants and bistros that have opened in Redlands and Yucaipa in recent years will be getting my business from now on. Drop Martha Green's Eating Room, but drop by its bakery once in awhile, as that still may be worth the visit. But avoid the dry cakes, as they are overrated, imho. But the cookies and brownies are awesome. And you're likely to at least get a "Hello!" and a "Thank you!" there. Surprisingly I have never had bad service at the bakery. A friend had been wanting to bring me here for a while; we finally had the opportunity today. We walked in through the bakery entrance and decided we would purchase some treats after breakfast. The whole place looks tired and dingy and those string lights don't add anything to the ambience. Our waitress took our order and then disappeared until she brought out the food about 20-25 minutes later. We asked for a few more napkins, because apparently you only get one thin paper napkin per person when seated. She disappeared again and never returned with the napkins; after MANY minutes, my friend had to get up, flag down another wait person to bring the napkins and more coffee. The food was mediocre and they definitely need to have more than 3 people working the tables for the amount of customers that were there. I really don't get the appeal of the restaurant for my friend or anyone else but, I won't be returning. I hope the baked goods that we purchased aren't as bad as the breakfast experience.
