I've been in and out of the Edison diner over the years. It's a Middlesex county institution and it stays open 24/7 for all your late-night diner needs. Their food is relatively consistent, especially their breakfast. Food quality is just okay, staff is kind and efficient. Weekends can get crazy, but generally people are seated within 15-30 min, depending on the day. One of my go to dishes is the platter with 2 eggs, a choice of meat, hash, and toast. I get it with the house coffee and the staff always comes buy with refills. The hash is very different than what I'm used to, and often lacks flavor. The Edison diner in my opinion is doing everything right, especially during covid. They are open inside. It was my first time coming here. I was greeted by a friendly hostess She asked how many was in my party, my name and what my phone number was. I asked her why she needed my phone number and I was told it was for tracing just in case, I totally complied. My friend and I were seated immediately, and I noticed all the tables were spaced out nicely from other patrons. This diner was very clean, bright and cheery. On the walls are interesting pictures of famous people like Albert Einstein with some very positive quotes. Within two minutes of being seated a friendly bus boy came over and asked if we would like some water. Then my waiter Sergio came over and also asked if we would like a drink. The Edison diner does have a liquor license. Sergio wore a mask and gloves. He proceeded to put a silver plastic covered caddy on the table. I asked why it was covered and he told me that the salt & pepper, and ketchup caddy goes through a special light filtering machine to kill germs. I was the only one who took off the plastic cover. My paper placemats which were two sided was also my menu. There was a lot to choose from. Since I was outside most of the day and cold I immediately ordered a coffee and a bowl of French onion soup. My onion soup was delicious, and I could see it was made right. The onions in the soup were all browned well and caramelized. If the onions are slow cooked like this it makes for a tastier soup.On top there was a piece of French bread and melted cheese which was okey gooey. My friend ordered a coffee and a bowl of their matzo ball soup. She said her soup was delicious too. They placed a large round matzo ball in the middle of the broth. For my entree I decided to order off their Late Night Meal Deal it's from 9pm- until 6am. The Edison Diner is open until 1am. Included, is either a large soda, coffee or tea with your meal. The dish I chose was called the Black Russian- Pastrami, Turkey,, Swiss cheese, Coleslaw with Russian dressing on pumpernickel bread. It came with a side of curly fries. I thought I was getting just a sandwich, boy was I mistaken, this dish was huge.On a large plate came two pieces of Pumpernickel bread, on top of that coleslaw, and then piled high was slices of fresh roasted turkey, pastramiI and melted Swiss cheese. I was given a large amount of curly fries, a separate dish of coleslaw and a pickle. I got full from my French onion soup so I only ate a quarter of my meal and took the rest home. Everything was fresh. The pastrami was tasty, the turkey was moist, and the sandwich was really good and more then enough for two meals. My friend ordered their vegetable panini with a side of mixed vegetables instead of fries. Her sandwich had a nice assortment of layered vegetables and melted cheese. Her side of vegetables were all sauteed, she really enjoyed them.. We both went home with doggy bags. My waiter Sergio was very attentive. This is kind of your standard so-so diner. The positive thing it has going for it is that it's open 24/7 which makes it the defacto diner in the area to go to if you have a craving at 4 am. But this is more of a "quantity over quality" type of place. Let's get to the positives: The portions are huge, very generous. It's good if you're very hungry. The service is great. Even while working at 3 am, the service is friendly and cordial. The restaurant is clean. And the prices are reasonable. There's a reasonable amount of parking, so it's not bad for a group. There are some, not a lot of, vegetarian options. The cons: The food is okay. Not great but works in a pinch. It can be greasy depending on what you order. I would venture aware from the creme brulee. I've ordered sandwiches mostly and overall, it's okay. Do I recommend it? If you have literally no where else to go, sure. Our dinner, service, and value today was very good. We had the complete dinner (bowl, not cup of soup and a salad, fresh baked rolls, soft beverage, meal, dessert and coffee/ tea). Some people are complaining about the cost of a meal here, but in addition to all the above, the portions are enough for 2 meals. We had the shepherds pie (made with cubes of tender beef (not ground beef) and all fresh not frozen veggies including pearl onions. Maybe the BEST Salisbury steak I ever had, it was the size of a mini meatloaf! Fresh mushroom gravy, real mashed potatoes, and the vegetable Medley was definitely freshly made to order (zucchini, pepper Medley, onion, mushrooms, broccoli, carrots). The steak was so tender and juices ran out when cut into. Chicken noodle soup was definitely made from scratch. Half of both came home along with a rice pudding and bread pudding. I took a spoonful of each at home and they are great. Service was good and attentive. All that for $60 over 2 days! That's what you'd spend for a value meal at a fast food restaurant. We're 5+ Miles north if the Edison diner, but it's worth the ride down rt.1. It's the best diner in the general area IMHO. Visited the Edison Diner recently with some family for a late birthday brunch. It was a Sunday morning and expected a wait and upon arrival, there was a packed parking lot. We put our name down and was told it was between a 15-20 minute wait--not too bad for brunch hour. The wait wasn't too bad and then we were seated. The menu was typical for any diner featuring the usual entrees and appetizers. The breakfast menu has many options. I had opted for a bacon and cheese omelette which was served with white toast and potatoes of my choice--I picked disco fries. I also had shared a waffle with my sister. The wait for our food wasn't too bad and they had very generous helpings. The waffle was cooked perfectly. It had a nice crunch at first bite and was fluffy in the middle. My omelette was filled with thick slices of bacon and very cheesy. The disco fries were piled high and drizzled with gravy with mozzarella cheese melted on top. The quality has definitely somewhere we hope to find again. My sandwich bottom was soggy. The french onion soup was good but the saltine crackers didn't taste fresh. The chips are terra veggie chips. The servers don't work together which is why i gave it such a low 2 stars. I waived to a waitress and she looked away and then asked me if if was waiving to anyone. Really great experience here! We came here for brunch on a Sunday, and it was packed! We were met with a 15 minute wait because we weren't allowed to make a reservation before arriving. The menu is expansive in full traditional diner fashion. Following the classic diner aesthetic portion sizes were more than generous. I ordered the eggs Benedict and very much enjoyed it. I was very excited to go to the Edison Diner because I heard great reviews before. Their menu was great since there were so many different options to choose from. The servers were excellent and made the experience 10 times better. The whole place felt like you were at home and allowed me to feel relaxed. It is a big diner but everything still ran smoothly and was very clean. The food tasted amazing and came out 7 minutes after we ordered. You would think that if it only took 7 minutes to cook it wouldn't be great, but it was. Before we were served our food they were also quick to seat us and serve our drinks. Good servers, when you order the food there they bring you drink refills regularly (3-6 times). On top of that they have bread for each table, which makes it easier when waiting for your food, because although the wait is like 10-15 minutes for your food. Having any appetizer to eat in the meantime helps with that wait. The food is good, from what I ate (chicken & Salmon sandwiches), they can make multiple good options. The servers were really good, being friendly and always being available. Two names I can recommend would be Jorge or Reuben. Both were really good waiters, (I went to this diner multiple times). Ordered a Chicken Parm Dinner through their website. The website does not give the option of selecting soup and salad nor does it prompt you to call or write in what you want. Believing I would just get the house special I proceeded to place my order for pickup. I was in the area and drove and picked up my whole order, asking the hostess if everything was in the bags. Not living in the area it was about 40 minutes until I got home and could open my meal. It was then I discovered they did not give us our soup and salad on a $24 dollar dinner. Called and spoke with the manager who told me that they owe us a soup and salad the next time we come in. Being that we don't live in the area and it would be many months before we could return I asked if they could just charge back a portion of the meal to my card. The manager insisted they would not do that, that I should have called the restaurant to make sure they included my soup and salad (again, their online order system does not prompt you to call) and because the soup and salad is complimentary to the dish there was nothing they could credit back to my card. I asked him if they could make an exception since the fault was on their system and staff who did not ask or include the soup and salad and he proceeded to tell me no and then hung up on me. Service has truly gone down hill when you pay $24 dollars for a meal that can be made for a total of $8 and they can't be bothered to credit back even $3-5 for a "complimentary" soup and salad. read more

I decided to come here with the family when I saw on Yelp review pictures of home fries. Trust me, not all diners serve chunky home fries, which is sad whenever visiting IHOP and Dennys. I had the two eggs over medium with bacon. The home fries and toast, juice and with choice of coffee and tea is included with all their breakfast platters. My kids had the cinnamon swirl French toast and the Edison breakfast burrito (scrambled eggs, taylor ham, onions and peppers) with side of salsa dip and chips. There are no kids menu for breakfast, only lunch and dinner kids menus here so I ordered the adult menu for the kids and have them shared. All condiments were already available on the table: flavored syrups, butter, flavored jams, creamers and sugars, ketchup, salt/black peppers. Overall, everyone in the family was satisfied with breakfast. The only thing I wish was my home fries to be cooked well done as I requested, otherwise, everything else was good. The breakfast is what we usually order. We've ordered twice from here on Saturdays and the food seems to be pretty good and plentiful. My only issues would be with the home fries. I wish they would use salt & pepper since both times they came unseasoned, but that's an easy fix. Also, I overheard a manager talking to one of the staff in a mildly disrespectful manner and that rubbed me the wrong way.
