My visit today at the Kempsville Road location of Egg Bistro was very pleasant today. My waitress Jessica was very attentive and always made sure my coffee cup was filled. I thoroughly enjoy this location because the food is always good, the staff is always very friendly, and they always make you feel very welcomed by not rushing you to eat and get out. I've had many of breakfast meetings and long brunches with friends here at this location. The staff is very friendly and doesn't mind it at all. On the other hand I have visited the General Booth location 2 times and I feel that at this location it's very loud, very busy, and you feel a little rush to get out of there. The staff is not as attentive. I am hoping that this is just because it's a new location and it's going through some growing pains. I wish the Kempsville Road location the best of luck and hopefully another successful 10 years of business. Blessings to you all. read more

Great breakfast...great coffee...great service! We were visiting the area (family of 5) and wanted something better than the hotel breakfast thing. The Broken Egg left us all very happy and a few pounds heavier. We ordered a wide variety of food across the 5 of us: banana pancakes, egg "skillet", country fried steak, veggie omelette, fruit salad; all of it was fresh and excellent...and very generously portioned. So today my family and I finally made it a point to eat here for breakfast after reading all the great reviews of this place on yelp. First we were met with a 20 min wait which I was OK with because I figured long lines means great food and service, right? Not so much. OK, I must say first impressions of the facility was pleasant. Nicely decorated, quirky name and pretty cool ceiling fans that I mentioned I wanted for my house. That's pretty much were the good stuff ended. We get seated and the waitress comes to the table. (Hint if they offer the booth next to the front door when its cold outside ask for another table) Service quality was typical for this part of the country, I am world traveled because of my work and Hampton Roads customer service has got to be in my bottom 5. Yes, we got the food we ordered but its all about that little extra that goes a long way when your in customer service. The food comes, really nothing special at all. I was disappointed with just about everything we had. The coffee was pretty good but because we were next to the front door it was cold in like 5 min. Basically I could have made a better breakfast at home for a 4th of the cost or just gone to any major breakfast food chain and had better experience. $2.00 cup of coffee, really? We've been here a couple times, and been happy every time. I've had eggs benedict two different ways and both were good - bloody mary's here are great too - very spicy and great flavor. I've experienced better service from here before. An order was made over the phone for lunch items that were not available at the time. The woman taking my order did not read the order back to me, and was general not engaged to the conversation. She did not tell me my total over the phone. When I walked in to pay for my food, only one of the items was available to be picked up. Then when I asked about the mix up, she was passive aggressive about the conversation on the phone, as if I had annoyed her with the whole ordeal. Over all food was great. A little bit of a wait, and a few too many flies for my liking. Hashbrowns were cold even though the plate was hot. Was corrected. Waitress and hostess were very friendly. On the fence. First time I went I ordered the bacon wrapped asparagus. They clearly didn't prepare the asparagus. It still had the very stalky end that should have been broken off. I had to floss that crap out after. The rest of the meal was really good though. Today was the second time going and the waitress just fell short. When she finally came to our table we had had time to read the entire menu. At least 10 min. We weren't greeted by her nor were drinks given prior to ordering not even an "I'll be right with you". I had even turned around looking for our waitress even gestured toward other waitresses. Mind you this was 1:30 in the afternoon the place had slowed a bit there shouldn't have been a problem. When she finally came I added in a few words like " yes we have had plenty of time to review the menu", hoping she would get the "drift". Our order wasn't hard either: French toast bacon over easy eggs for me, my kids: a pancake with bacon and waffles with scrambled eggs. I also ordered a biscuit. In hopes that she got it we waited for our food. At this point I'm trying very hard to give her the benefit of the doubt. About 5 min later this couple is seated next to us. Their drinks came with them to the table. Really? Obviously regulars. And that's great. But then I heard our waitress tell them their food would be right out. They didn't even order! Wtf! And of course their food came out before ours. Yes they were in and out in minutes. I'm sure they tip every time that's why the waitress helps them along but don't put them next to customers you have ignored. Our food came just fine. Not many places will get an over easy egg correct but they have both times. I never got my biscuit and wasn't charged for it. I guess the waitress was to involved in the regulars. I got the check and waited and waited again. Once again had to turn around to see where she was. She was running her mouth with co workers. My total was $19.51. Her tip was 49 cents. Food tastes wonderful. Waitresses are always nice. However, the hostesses are what prevent me from returning. Teenage girls with poor attitudes, constantly playing on their personal phones, make poor attempts to build and maintain a wait list. On more than two separate occasions, my husband and I have been waiting inside the restaurant (yes, inside the restaurant) and the girls skipped our name on the list. We're flexible; we don't mind bar or dining room seating. The last time it happened I was really nice about it and stated that I "thought" we had been skipped because many groups that had arrived after us had been seated. Hostesses didn't apologize and added us back to the list AT THE BOTTOM. I would have left then if it wasn't for my husband wanting to eat. Needless to say, unless you want to make brunch a four hour affair, I would not bother. read more

First of all I'm not one to normally write a bad review on any place.My fiancé and I received a $10 off coupon from a dentist in the area.So Saturday the 23rd,we needed a night out so we thought we would give them a try.first of all was the drink order,waitress was not knowledgable at all.We could see the bartender making our mojitos,and it took three people behind the bar to even get 2 drinks made.Not good to see that.They were no mojitos I had ever drank anywhere,drank them anyway.We both ordered steak,if that's what you want to call them.Poorest cut of N.Y Strip I have ever eaten with3/8 of an inch of grizzle and fat all the way around.My girls baby baked potatoes were burnt,no flavor.i had mine smothered in the Cajun sauce which was ok,but asked waitress what was in it and she had no clue had to ask cook,Wait staff should know what is in every entrée you serve.Could go on and on but not worth my time .Will not recommend.Maybe if their staff had some adult supervision or atleast someone over 25 half their problems would be nonexistent.We dropped $82 dollars there and got our meal at a discount atleast.We knew we would never return so why waste my time complaining.Don't waste your time or money....... read more

We have been coming here for several years. Always enjoyed ourselves. We like that it is family friendly and we could go out for a pretty decent meal and take our little one and not spend a fortune thanks to their great specials. We'd accumulated enough stamps on their frequent diner card to score ourselves a free dinner! So we are seated, to find out first that the menu had changed. I have to say the new menu is not bad. There are some good sounding new additions. Like the chicken and waffles. The caprese stacks. But I was really disappointed to find out the chicken marsala is no longer on the menu. I understand they have to make a menu based on popularity, but this was my go to for dinner every time. So we will just call that a big disappointment. Then we find out that our frequent diner card, well they stopped accepting those just 5 days ago. Yep a card that took us about a year to fill- well that no longer got us a free dinner. Instead it was transferred into points and after you get so many points you get a $10 reward. That doesn't buy me a free dinner. So I was kind of bummed about that. Most dinner entrees are definitely more than $10. So not exactly what I'd call a fair trade. I knew they were in transition, but its not easy for us to get out as often as we'd like with having a baby. I can't believe they wouldn't honor our old diner card. Ok great so we'd also ordered a couple beers thinking they would qualify as 1/2 happy hour specials. But we should have known that too has changed. Now its only the cheap beers that qualify for half off (and a few select liquors). But we didn't find this out until we got our check, of course. So I went in thinking we were going to only pay for possibly an appetizer, 1 adult entree and a couple half off beers. Thinking it would be an affordable dinner out. Nope it was pretty expensive. When you dine with a 1 year old, you don't want to spend a lot of money as you also spend half the meal refereeing the baby, cutting his food etc. What we ended up spending on that dinner isn't going to make us come back for a reasonably priced meal with a baby. No if we spend that much money we will get a sitter, and since that happens only once in a blue moon for us, we only like to go to fancy places if we get a sitter. Sorry, the egg bistro just isn't that fancy. Which was fine when we spent less, but not at $85! To add, our waitress was fine. No problems with her. The food tasted fine. Just left disappointed. They better not take the french toast off the breakfast menu or we may never come back. read more

So if you decide to come just be prepared. It's not a place to come if you're in a rush. Now it's not always bad but it can get pretty crazy. My wife and have not been there for a few months. Very disappointed. I ordered a medium burger and it came out well. Mistakes happen. The waitress asked how our food was and I showed her the burger. She smiled and walked away. Not a word or comment of any kind. With the remainder of burger sitting untouched on the plate, she returned and asked how our dinner was. My wife and I just looked at each other. With the burger still untouched, she returned 15 to 20'minutes later and asked if we had room for desert. Then she actually asked if we needed a box as if it got better over time.. She was completely oblivious to how to treat a customer. I reminded her the burger was over done and this was not a good experience. She proceeded to say it was the kitchen and not her. Then she shared that the kitchen said it sat under the lamps to long. I just stared at her with a blank look on my face. Trying to figure out what that had to do with the customer! No apology, no manager, nothing! Long waits, and staff isn't very pleasent when you arrive. They had tables empty outside, and I offered to sit outside but they said "NO" you've got a 45-minute wait. Went someplace else that day. Last time we waited a LONG TIME FOR FOOD TO ARRIVE and then the order wasn't what I'd ordered, and it took forever to get our waitress back to the table. Waitress does not bring your food! I guess if you don't mind waiting forever to get in, forever to get your food and paying high prices, this place is OK, but not on my list of places to come back to.
