YUMMMM....pure bliss. This is the second time my man and I have been to the Kempsville location, the whole staff was animated, attentive and prompt. They were genuine servers with real smiles and an internal timer developed from a thorough understanding of how a restaurant should flow. We got the Black and Blue Benedict (lite on the blue chz, came with shredded hash browns- ask for them crispy) Country Chicken and Biscuits (came with stone ground grits....yummm), a half order of cinnamon raisin swirl French toast AND a side of bacon. My expectations were perfectly met and I had to force myself to stop eating so that I could retain leftovers. Also Brittany was our server and she was so timely, kind, and accommodating of me and my boyfriend's OBSESSION with GOOD food. :) She was able to multitask well and maintain perfect section awareness, checking on and cleaning multiple tables at a time. This is a fabulous place for any meal. We typically go for breakfast/brunch. I love the Bloody Mary bar on Sunday mornings. They have tons of choices for vodkas, flavored pepper, etc. They offer daily specials on a board over the bar, so check it out. Be prepared t wait, as it is crazy busy every time we go. You get seated quicker, if you agree to sit at the bar. It is worth the wait! Once you're seated, the service is fast. I counted 8 servers and 4 cooks on my most recent trip. They also have morning early bird breakfast specials before 8:00 on weekdays. I recently enjoyed the Intracoastal Omelet with crab and swiss cheese with a pomegranate mimosa. They were both delicious. I've never had a bad meal here. Try them, you won't be disappointed. read more

We wanted to eat someplace new last night, so I started the search via Yelp and found Broken Egg Bistro. I had heard of it, but didn't realize how close it was to the house. So, we headed over for dinner with a friend of ours, and enjoyed the experience. The service was prompt, friendly, and I never had an empty glass (how I really rate my servers). The food was fresh, and tasted very good. I ordered a house salad and the five pepper tuna. I ordered the Tuna medium rare, and the only complaint was that it was closer to medium. Still very good. The house salad wasn't just iceberg with some veggies - it had a mix of iceberg, field greens, green peppers, red onions, cucumbers, and sprouts. It was a pretty good salad. My wife ordered the Mediterranean chicken, which looked good. The portions were HUGE (as they are at every restaurant nowadays. I only ate about 3/4 of my tuna (and I love tuna) and my wife ate about 1/2 of her chicken. Since we got there so close to closing, when we left that had started prepping for breakfast the next morning. It got my stomach growling even though I was stuffed... I think I'll definitely be back for breakfast, since I've never heard anything but good things. read more

Since opening, they have expanded over 3 business suites, providing the facility with more tables to accommodate the amount of people that come to eat here. Of course, if you come during breakfast rush hours between 9-11, expect a wait or sit at the bar (which isn't too bad). Their pineapple mimosas are my favorite drink with breakfast. The coffee is decent, and there is a variety of creamers and sugars available at the table for you. It is hard for me to pick my favorite breakfast meal item as I have tried mostly everything on the menu. I frequently get The Rockafeller Eggs Benedict, which can be a little salty from the bacon, but is evened out by the eggs and English muffin. I always get shredded hash browns. The Harvest options are good for when you can't decide in what to get. I love the biscuits and gravy for when you want a heartier breakfast. Their breakfast sandwiches are also good when you want to go for a lighter option. On Wednesdays through Saturdays, they stay open for dinner, which is great because their dinner menu is really delicious as well! You can't go wrong with building your own burger because the kitchen cooks it to perfection! I have also enjoyed their chicken Parmesan and lasagna as well. For an appetizer, I highly recommend the Island Calamari and tuna tartare if you love seafood! As I've said before, I love this place! This wasn't my dish, but from the two bites I had, I would guess that this is one of the most popular menu items. I'm not sure what all the rage is about. The food is o.k. but a little over priced for what was served. The steak I got was quite a bit thinner than what was pictured on their menu. My biggest complaint is the noise level. Hard surfaces, (tables, big windows, high metal ceiling) and not to mention the exposed kitchen and servers prep station noise. I metered a top noise level of 88db. FYI db is a measurement of sound pressure. 80 db is curbside traffic of Busy road at 5 meters away. read more

Went here on a Saturday around 1:00 p.m. The place was rockin'. The first thing I noticed was the fact that the AC was either broken or definitely unable to keep up with the crowd. It was uncomfortably hot! We got a seat within 5 minutes. We ordered banana pancakes, two over-easy eggs, two slices of bacon, an order of country-fried potatoes w/onions, and a yogurt parfait. The banana pancakes were okay, the eggs runny, the bacon wimpy and undercooked, the potatoes, very good, and the greek yogurt parfait monstrous. My partner said her coffee was good and my black tea was good as well. The wait staff was skimpy and after asking for milk to go with our coffee and tea twice and not getting it, I finally got up and went over to an empty table and got it myself. Our waitress was friendly, but overextended. Therefore, I would say our experience was a mixed bag. The restaurant itself was fairly large and open, a little noisy, and extremely busy. I believe that the Egg Bistro may be the only worthwhile breakfast joint in the entire area. It is very convenient for us to get to, and though the parking seems limited we've never actually been unable to get a space. However, there's going to be at least a 30 minute wait on the weekends no matter what time you go (plan accordingly time-wise; I would suggest grabbing a coffee on the way to the Bistro to sip on while you wait). There were a few things that fell short for me. Up front, the biggest disappointment was the coffee. The regular coffee was nothing at all special. Somewhat-weak diner coffee at best, and we were told that this location isn't even capable of making espresso/any espresso based coffee beverages. I don't have to have coffee with my meal, and there are plenty of other things to drink, so it wasn't that bad. Unfortunately, the water does not taste good whatsoever either, very sharp and chemically. Definitely not filtered (or if it is, it could use more filtering). Upon looking at the drinks, we decided to try a $10 flight of mimosas. Without realizing that they are technically virgin, unless you specify otherwise. The flight requires you to specifically request alcohol be added, which we didn't realize immediately, and had to ask for some to add after. Their full mimosas seem to be made properly however. To that effect, they do have a fun and flavorful selection of "brunch booze" to enjoy while having breakfast or lunch, making it a great place for group outings. I hear the bloody Mary's are something of a specialty. It is a very clean, and efficient establishment, with prompt and attentive staff. Now, on to the highly positive aspects; the food! I found a new favorite dish here. It is the phenomenal, spectacular, perfect, rave-worthy bacon wrapped asparagus... with the best hollandaise sauce I have ever had. It came out very hot, and fresh, buttery, crisp, with the right amount of char, flavorful thick bacon, creamy sauce, and was just generally delightful in every way. The best asparagus I have ever had, anywhere, and a very elegant side dish to say the least. I could eat the bacon wrapped asparagus every single day. Aside from that, the omelets are not skimpy at all, but rather huge, fluffy, well-stuffed, and flavorful. They have a wonderful selection of fillings that you can choose for yourself, if you desire. What I really love about this menu is how easy it is to order exactly what you want, how you want it. Fruits, veggies, tomatoes, endless types of meat, etc. All easy to access and combine. Such great variety. The tomato, though it is charged somewhat expensively, as a side item, was actually ripe, delicious, and came in a decent sized serving (rather than the one or two meager slices, as most places tend to do, if they offer tomato anywhere on their menu at all). It was highly refreshing. The sheer option of meats, as well as a la carte options was fantastic. I had the peppered bacon--and I have to say, it may be my new favorite breakfast food. I've never had bacon this good at a restaurant before. It's just thick enough, yet lean enough, to hit that glorious place between crunchy and chewy, with incredible smokey-sweet-savory flavor. The perfect 'umami' breakfast accompaniment. Next time, I will absolutely be exploring the eggs benedict options, as they all sound unique, flavorful, and highly enticing. We may even try it for dinner on a night where that is an option. The menu is a lovely size with so many options to fit plenty of different appetites/dietary needs. read more

So my mom, sister and I decided on a late dinner. They have visited the location before this was my first visit. We had the crab dip as an appetizer. It was just ok. I felt it needed a kick or more flavor. However, the crab dip did have plenty of crab meat and was very cheesy. My mom had the Reuben she felt it was on a scale of 1-10 it was a 3. My sister had the broken egg burger it was delicious they used thick cut pepper bacon and she mushroom added to it. The fries are really good. I was not hungry so I decided to get the waffle al a mode. Chocolate and caramel drizzled on top with a hunk of vanilla ice cream. It was sufficient. All in all the food was average the atmosphere was cool and the waitress Ashley was nice. They have plenty of specials and events on the board so I'm sure I will be back again soon. read more

Initially the wait was rather annoying , specially that I think they forgot about us. Then I was greated by an awesome waitress and my experience was up hill from that. She managed to keep my splenda , coffe and creamer full at all times, with constant clean ups. She brought the food nice and hot. They have the best bartenders you could ask for - Sarah, Deanna, and Regina. You literally can't go wrong with anything on the breakfast menu. I had high hopes for the Egg Bistro. It was recommended by family in Chesapeake- so we tried it. I ordered hot tea, crab cake sandwich and cup of chili. My brother ordered the half salad and Tidewater wrap. First off, maybe I expect too much, being from New Jersey, but serving an odd "Zen" tea when I asked for hot tea seemed really strange. After looking at it, tasting it, I thought maybe it was green tea? I hate green tea. So, I called the waitress over, I asked her if the tea was green or what? She says it's "Zen" as if I should know what that is? I proceeded to ask her if she could bring me a cup of black tea, Lipton perhaps? She comes back with a bag of what she called, "Early Grey" (Earl Grey) as the only black tea they have? I'm like, okay, I'll take the Early Grey. Yikes! So, then the lunch comes out. Chili? Barely warm...lukewarm temp chili isn't very appetizing but after the tea debacle I decided to just eat it. Crab cake sandwich was very good, especially after I received the tarter sauce I requested twice. One waitress told me they had to make it. Like really? Is tarter sauce not a normal condiment for crab cake? French fries... not hot - ugh. After the tarter sauce and Early Grey I just decided to grin and bear it. At least the pickle, which by the way I had to request, as they forgot to put it on my plate; was delicious- they forgot to bring my brothers salad dressing, total blank stare from one of the two waitresses serving us when he asked for it, is salad dressing not a normal condiment for a garden salad? He did enjoy the Tidewater Wrap. While the waitresses are cute and friendly, maybe a little more training on how to expo a plate is in order. Next time, I'll order EGGS. read more

Ok I always try to remind folks that 3 Stars is GOOD, and this place was a solid THREE this morning. Service is EXCELLENT (5 Stars) but the food fell just a little short. Breakfast potatoes / hash browns / whatever style potato a place chooses to use needs to be cooked through and served at least warm. I get it this stuff is often prepped early for quick delivery of orders, but the second you get that crunch of an undercooked potato it starts removing Stars in my opinion. I ordered carnitas with eggs and it was tasty, it just wasn't really warm at all which made it feel like eating leftovers. FLAVORS ARE THERE SO TRY IT! They give you a couple (again not warmed) tortillas too with it. Cheese would be a nice addition. I capped things off with one cronut and that thing was delicious. They keep the coffee flowing nice and hot, and again, the service is excellent and friendly. read more
