Our entire experience at The Egg Bistro was defined by the handling of a single incident. While waiting for our table, a father and his two children walked in and the son vomited as soon as he walked in the front door. The father immediately took the son back to the bathroom area where he vomited again in the hallway leading to the bathroom. Multiple customers told the hostess and warned new customers entering the establishment to watch their step. The hostess said she would get someone to clean it up but the clock kept ticking and thankfully plenty of customers waiting continued to warn the new customers to watch their step. After 20 minutes we were seated, in full view of the vomit where there was now (finally) a "caution wet floor" sign standing above the vomit in both sections. However, the vomit did not get cleaned up until over an hour after the incident occurred. The father of the boy offered numerous times to clean it up but the hostess insisted she called someone and they'd be right out. It is completely unacceptable for a restaurant to leave vomit sitting on the floor for over an hour. According to the CDC vomit protocol, "Remove vomit or diarrhea right away!". I would not consider an hour to be "right away". Went there with a friend and our kids for dinner and everything was just kind of meh. We ordered classic martinis (one gin, one dirty gin) to drink and neither came with vermouth - just gin (or gin and olive juice). It took us a minute to figure out why we didn't enjoy them. The meals were under seasoned and underwhelming. I had the chicken and waffles, which was okay, but there was a lot more waffle than chicken. My friend's burger was kind of dry and she didn't finish it. Overall, not worth what we paid for it. read more

I have dined here many times since they have opened, and always suggest it to new comers in the area. The food is ALWAYS amazing!! The spanish omelet is my favorite. Since they are so good, they attract a lot of customers therefore they can get busy. I have had to wait for my food longer than average but that is MORE than okay. I just sit back, relax, and enjoy conversation at my table. The food never disappoints and the service is good. I have been to The Egg Bistro many times. I was there Saturday, 11/23/19, and was greeted by the Manager, Chris. She was extremely kind. I watched as she engaged with customers as well as employees and was extremely impressed. She kept a smile on her face and ensured that everyone was happy and had what they needed. Their food is amazing and they have a lot of choices. They are pretty busy though, so there is always a line. It's relatively well priced and the drinks are good. I love their location as well--you can see a movie before or after! The tables are a little close together, but in some of the areas, but I don't mind it too much. read more

OMG! My new favorite place for breakfast...might I add, haven't tried lunch or dinner so it may win there as well. I give anything the benefit of the doubt once; so glad I decided to make the drive here. I live in Portsmouth and usually hit up Cracker Barrel on Sundays...well, now I will probably be on Kempsville Rd at this establishment. I may try the Suffolk location just because, but I know I will be returning here. Pineapple Mimosa - fabulous, Pecan infused pancakes - delicious, Hostesses, waitresses/bartenders, chef and line cooks - amazing! Can't wait to try something new next week! I love this place! The food is awesome and the portions are huge! Breakfast , lunch , dinner, they have it all and it's all amazing! Blue plate lunch specials monday thru friday....martini specials and chef specials every friday night...margaritas, prime rib and steamed shrimp specials saturday night, oh yea lets not forget wed. and thur. night specials...wed burger night thur night pasta and kids eat free thur nights. the staff is awesome and the owners are always around! My husband and I ate here on a Saturday at 10am - and we expected it to be busy and it was. There was a 30min wait but once we got a seat we got excellent service and our food came very fast. My husband is from the South and he ordered Biscuits and Gravy and he said it was the best he has ever had at a restaurant. I ordered the Eggs Benedict and it was very delish! The waiter even offered us to give us our drinks "to go" and refilled them in styrofoam cups so we could have some drinks to go at no extra charge. Super nice of them to do that. The Buffalo Chicken sandwich was dry and of very poor quality. The waitstaff must have been terribly under staffed; I seen a waitress when we were seated, when she took our order and brought it to the table. After that, no coffee refills, no checking on our food or needs, I even had to find her to get the check. read more

Let me start by saying that I have been eating breakfast for a long time so believe me when I say that this place is amazing. The first thing when you walk in everyone greets you with a smile and hello. I felt right at home from the second I walked in. The place is very clean, cozy and bright. The food is all made to order and I would put money on it that they have the biggest portions anywhere. If you want great food, nice people and a great price then this place is for you. This is hands down the best dining experience I have had in a long time! I dined here on Thursday night with my boyfriend and his mom. Him and I came once and the wait was so long we had left. Well now we know why they are so packed all the time. We made a reservation and only waited 15 mins. They were very busy, lots of children which we later learned was because kids eat free on Thursday. I wont come again on thursday but only due to the amount of children. Our server Ashley came to our table and apologized for any wait we had. I asked her if they had Moscato, to which she said yes and that it was her favorite. She was very friendly and attentive. We order the Tuna Bites appetizer, very good, the tuna was cooked perfectly. The menu has since changed since my boyfriend had been there last, it was my first time. He knew exactly what he wanted the minute he saw it on the menu and ordered the Cowboy steak, garlic mashers and brocolini. All cooked to perfection. His mom ordered the Mahi she said was delicious and I ordered the Burger on pretzel roll with avocado and mushrooms, french fries on the side. Let me start by saying the fries were wonderful. They were crispy on the outside and perfect inside, not soggy or burned, just right. Not too often will I feel the need to review french fries, they were that good! During the meal the waitress brought me a taste of another wine she thought I might like which was such a nice gesture. I ended up liking it more than the one I had picked. I am new to wines so i really appreciated it. We then chose dessert to share which was the best part of the entire meal, Apple Crumble with scoop of Vanilla Bean Ice Cream. Oh My Goodness was this good. The crust was awesome, even the ice cream was amazing. I would go there just to order it and a cup of coffee. I drove all the way from Norfolk for lunch with the fiance because of the yelp reviews. The place is BUSY. The wait was a lot longer than I had anticipated it to be. The hostess said 20mins for just counter service; it ended up being about 35 mins. The only good thing is that they have a convention type room adjacent from the restaurant with a good number of chairs/benches for you to sit inside while you wait for your table. There's also newspapers and magazines to read while you wait, making the wait less unbearable. Always liking to try new things off the menu, we saw and ordered the Belly buster skillet challenge. From their menu: "The 5 pound version of our famous Skillet. Eggs with cheddar cheese, onions,green peppers, tomatoes, bacon and two kinds of sausage. Served with a mound of roasted potatoes and a biscuit. If you can finish this in one hour without leaving the table, we'll buy it and give you a 100 bucks!" for $21.99. So we tried it. And it was just, bleh. Lots of oil and grease. Basically what they said: a bunch of mashed up ingredients, without much culinary talent utilized. So I can't really say this restaurant serves bad food, I think it was just the food item we chose. We probably clogged a few arteries eating that as well.We ended up having to pack up at least half of it. It was so dense, I thought that our styrofoam to-go box was going to break from the weight. Never one to waste food, my fiance brought it back with him to DC to eat for lunch/dinner. And he was able to eat multiple meals out of those leftovers. Our server was cool though. It's loud, so the atmosphere isn't ideal when nursing a hangover or something. My overall impression was just all right. Would I drive all the way back to try something that may be a better representation of what they have to offer? Probably not. read more

I had heard so much about this place and how buddy it can be. Saturday my soon and I dropped in at 730am and they were packed already for opening at 7 am on weekend (according to their website) we waited about 15 mins. I ordered the #1 for my 5 year old, which was plenty of food. The server did not mention anything about a kids menu so I assumed they did not have one, but they could of. I ordered the firecracker omelette, which had tons of jalapenos! Over all it was ok. The hash browns were on the dry side and I thought the firecracker was lacking in some kind of flavor. Everything I've had here is great. I generally belly up for one of their variations of Eggs Benedict though. Rockefeller is the FAV. They've made some improvements for the wait that you will likely experience by adding a waiting area with dedicated rest rooms. The Staff is always chipper and ready to serve you with a smile. I've been here alone and with friends. We are always consistently pleased with the food which is flavorful and in some cases unique. See above Rockefeller. I'm giving 'em 5. Visited on Sunday Morning....went down to Norfolk for Labor day weekend to visit my college roommate. I need breakfast in the morning so she suggested The Broken Egg. I walked in to reserve a space and good Lord! All i could smell was home cooked potatoes...the wait wasn't bad, 20 min maybe, but i spent my time a the consignment shop next door. WOW....that was fun. We were seated in the front dining area and greeted by Jen. Can I tell you she is the sweetest cup of syrup on two legs....she's too cute. I'm a VA girl and I felt like I was down in the Bayou. This is the first time I've really enjoyed the experience because of the service. Jen is the reason for the two additional stars.. The food was okay...not really all that tasty but I didn't have to cook it and it was hot, fresh and again, tasty just not special. I had the eggs benedict and cubed hash browns. My girlfriend ordered an omelet and I will tell you it really looked like a real egg omelet. That set the stage for what was to come. This place never fails. Drive from Virginia Beach is the only bad part about coming here. They are opening a new location near strawbridge that will be slightly closer but no matter what the food is always amazing. Staff can get a bit off when they are busy but that happens every where. Food is well worth the wait but thankfully there was only about 20 minutes today. I was SHOCKED that they charge $1.00 to add onions and $1.00 to add cheese to a small side of hash browns. The waitress asked if we wanted it but didn't tell us the cost, my fault for not asking though. You can buy a whole onion for less than $1 and the entire plate was $9. read more

I love this place. No matter what you get (breakfast for lunch) it is so freaking amazing. It is always packed, which is a good sign because good things come to those who wait. I recently went in and noticed the side building where the bathrooms are. I am not sure if they are expanding, or if that is just a wait area. I think they should move their hostess stand to that area, so people eating don't have to stare at tons of people coming in and standing around. I had a long island ice tea for kicks, and I have seriously never had one that good before. Food is great, drinks are great!!! read more

If you are worried about the wait, call them first and get your name on the list before you get there! We never go there without doing this and it saves a lot of standing around at the restaurant. My first comment is that we have never gotten bad food here for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. Everything is so tasty and the portions are excellent. I like that the menu is creative, but that I can also just get a burger if I feel like it! We have had some questionable service here and that is why I'm leery of going back, even after visiting probably a dozen times in the last year. The wait staff is always friendly, but it seems like the ball gets dropped sometimes either in the kitchen or at the hostess stand. We've had them pass over our name on the list before (while waiting right in front of the hostess stand), we've had to wait 30+ minutes to get our main entrees before (once it was explained that this was because there was a large party in the restaurant with us, and once it was explained that it was because we were the large party in the restaurant!). I think the service suffers a little bit because they are so popular and so busy much of the time. The staff is often apologetic and friendly when stuff like this happens, it is just hard to take things like this in stride when we come with our kids. read more

We are the regulars that were mentioned in a previous review. What is the best way to get regulars to an establishment? Exceptional customer service. The waitress mentioned in that particular post is the sweetest, kindest, most attentive and is the personification of what customer service is all about. Perhaps she was the target of someone having a bad day. Normally, I would not respond, but the Egg Bistro does not have one waitress that provides bad service. The cooks are great and the food is always fantastic. If there is a glitch, they fix it right away. Once you become regulars, you become part of their family. In fact, none of the waitresses even have to ask what we want to drink - they know it automatically. The turn-around time for ordering and receiving is usually very fast - for everyone. Keep up the good work and kudos to all the waitresses, especially the one mentioned above (you know who you are). read more
