Jessica and the team even on a busy day... Know how to deliver great service even when being super busy. The food was delicious. My daughter ordered the pancakes and I had the French Toast. I seem to always get pancakes so I decided to try something different based on suggestions. Don't get me wrong... Very tasty but the bread for the ft seemed a little dry on the edges/crust... Almost as if it wasn't dipped... But that would be my only. Complaint. Our dishes and neighboring tables dishes looked outstanding. One thing to note... On this date... They were only serving breakfast, cold sandwiches and salads and no one seemed to mind. Well done... When I come back to town... We will be back! read more

So this place is interesting, it apparently has really good breakfast and brunch (never been there for it though) but at night, it changes names to 501 Bistro and serves dinner and drinks. They always have some kind of food or drink special. I went for dinner on a Sat night and they had $3 margaritas. The margaritas were consistently over saturated with their sour mix, so bad my fiance couldn't even finish it. I'm one to say something in restaurants if I'm not happy but he insisted on not doing that and drinking it in misery. Then I ordered a peach bellini, which characteristically is suppossed to have CHAMPAGNE (or sparking SOMETHING in it). It tasted like one of those awful peach pucker drinks you would have drank on spring break in college. Sizyrup. Then my fiance ordered a Grey Street martini, which had some amarreto liquor in it and ALLEGEDLY Ketel One, but I would go on record that it was some lower shelf vodka and not my beloved Ketel One. I know the taste of Ketel One and that was not it. I cannot stand when bartenders try to pull the wool over your eyes by substituting other lower shelf liquors when you ask (and pay) for a top shelf liquor. So I really cannot promote the drinks here. They do, however, have a good and selective wine list so I would stick to that. As far as the food, I ordered the Mediterranean chicken and my fiance ordered the 5 pepper tuna. What I was served was 50% linguini, 40% topping, and 10% chicken. Although the topping of kalamata olives, feta, and tomatoes was delicious, it practically covered the plate and what hid underneath was a minuscule chicken tenderloin filet. That's such a low rent thing to do. My fiance's tuna was OKAY.....the mashed potatoes had cranberries in them and THAT was weird and the tuna was definitley not fresh. Food aside, service is always great and that manager guy is always walking around like he's in the gym and mingling with tables, it's kind of funny. We also love the pendant lights and double fans here. So I guess to sum this experience up, while 501 Bistro is a trendier place with more interesting food choices for dinner, the food itself is on par with diner food and not the best. I think it should probably stick to its specialty: brunch. read more

I really like this place. Not only was the server fantastic but the happy hour deals are exceptional. Half priced martinis? Yes please! I really only like martinis because they make me look fancy...also because they taste phenomenal. The food is pretty good. I had the potstickers, crab dip, chicken quesadillas, and meat loaf (don't judge). AMAZING. The portions are ridiculously big and I'm not embarrassed at all to say I ate all of it. It gets stupid busy once 7 p.m. hits. That's why I get there right when the door opens at 5. Love it! read more

So we decided to try The Broken Egg for dinner last night, and the whole experience was terrific. Our waitress Lauren was awesome...she was attentive, funny, didn't rush our dinner...just great!! I had the prime rib feature which came with a salad to start and delicious mashed potatoes...I believe they had Gouda in them, but I may have just dreamed they did. I'm always weary of ordering prime rib after working in a steakhouse for 7 years, but even though it was grilled, it was tender and cooked to perfection. The hubbs had the chicken cordon bleu...also fab. I'll have to find a way to copy his pesto mashed potatoes! We were extra gross and went for dessert, even though we had yummy spinach dip to start as well. Him the bread pudding, and myself the apple cobbler. Chewy, warm...mmmmmmmm. This used to be the GO TO place for the best breakfast in town, but I have noticed a decline lately. Had a giant hair in my food this week and also cold food. They replaced it and the waitress was very nice. Last week, ordered a grilled cheese with no bacon. It arrived with bacon. Waitress took it back and almost immediately brought it back. Opened up the sandwich and there was little bacon crumbs still inside. All they did was take out the bacon and did not make over. NOT GOOD. The female manager said they should have redone it, DUH!!! Ya think??? OMG.. If you can't teach them how to make a grilled cheese sandwich... perhaps they are not meant to work at this restaurant. read more

This is the best breakfast place around. With them even opening up other locations you can see why it is no longer a locals secret to somewhere we recommend regularly. They have the best French toast, Mamosa's, and their omelettes are great. We discover this bistro approximately five years ago through a friend who now, lives in Colorado. Over those five years we have grown very fond of the place. We love the food always hot and tasty. Plus, the waitress/servers are polite and friendly! We recently had the pleasure of speaking with the manager, as she stopped at our table to ask if we were satisfied with our meal. Found a hair in my food twice. First time they were very apologetic, which is why we went back. Second time they seemed slightly annoyed, brought me a new plate but still charged me!!! Every time we've gone I've had to send something back. Servers also had an attitude. Will not be back. read more

I'm on the fence about this place. On the plus side, it was much larger on the inside than I expected and I liked the decor...but .... Our waitress wasn't great and it took a long time to order and to get our check. I'm patient with things like that, but she really just wasn't that great. I had the crab eggs benedict. I keep trying to find a place that can compare to the Sandfiddler in Norfolk since that is a 40 minute drive from me. I can't. The eggs benedict here was mediocre. Whatever they are doing to their crab... maybe putting too much mayo in the mix, I don't know...but it's not working. But, my eggs were, indeed, perfectly poached, which is hard to find. So..the food and service were okay, but could have been much better. The place was clean and I liked that they had a lot of options on their menu, so while I won't go out of my way to go back, I wouldn't refuse it either. I'd give it another try. read more

We only make it here once a year on our trip to it from the Outer Banks, buy we are never disappoted in the food (or the pineapple mimosas!). And today our server, Ashley, was exceptional. She was friendly, anticipated all of our needs before we asked, and never rushed us, desipte the busy Sunday morning crowd. Extra syrup for the pancakes? Delivered before I had a chance to ask. A second iced tea? On the table before I finished my first. An iced tea to go? Done. And we haven't had anything we haven't enjoyed there yet. The pancakes, omelettes, hash browns, etc... My favorite breakfast spot in Hampton Roads, hands down! I really enjoy the breakfast menu they have here. The Broken Egg has a little bit of everything for everybody which I dig. The decor inside is up to date. I can honestly say I have never had a bad meal here. Only downside, ALWAYS crowded. I'm hoping they open a Virginia Beach location in the next year or so. read more

I'm a bigger fan of the Suffolk location. I've been to this location four times, and every time, the service is slow, the food comes out late, and one time, they even forgot my meal completely. They did compensate with a gift certificate that I later used at the Suffolk location instead. The food is good, but there are many other places I'd rather get a bite to eat in the Chesapeake area. read more

Went to The Egg Bistro Kempsville Road over the weekend. I hadn't been in her for years since it was the Broken Egg and took my cousin for the first time. The food was delicious! Our waitress Aston absolutely wonderful and very patient with us and taking our time to decide what we wanted to eat. I highly recommend The Egg Bistro and if you can get Aston as your waitress you won't be disappointed. read more

The place was packed, the line was long however the food was good. I understand why it is rated high, but I don't know if I will ever come back again. I don't have any complaints about the service or the food, I thought it was well portioned and I enjoyed the meal. The one thing I would say is that there was nothing about the food that made it "special" for lack of a better word. Add in the 45 minute wait time to get a seat, the 15-20 minutes it takes to get your food, eat, get your check, etc., the whole experience lasted over 2 hours and all I did was get some breakfast! Holy Mediocre, Batman. No problem waiting 20-25 mins to get a table on Saturday, just part of the experience. Unfortunately, this elevates your expectations somewhat. Even busy, they were orderly in seating and waitstaff did their best. I would say they looked over-worked and rushed everywhere. Coffee was lukewarm, but they were quick to offer more. Food was absolutely sub-par. I mean, basic, basic, basic. No outstanding meals and we had a gambit from waffles, french toast, to basic breakfast meals. The french toast (highlighted on the menu so I hoped it was a signature dish) was too thick and was akin to a stale Cinnabon. If you like french toast that is essentially cinnamon, then this is your place. But not for me. In addition, the crust of the french toast was inedible. So hard, I couldn't cut it with my knife (albeit, breakfast knives aren't super sharp... but still). I requested the pork sausage with my meal and was given two shriveled pieces of bacon. Funny that half was under-cooked and half was overcooked. My daughter liked her waffle, but not the eggs. The eggs are clearly from a vat of premade liquid eggs. When scrambled, they resemble a yellow-ish log. Pretty unappetizing. Like the coffee, everything we had was lukewarm, at best. Then, to make it a true 2-star... the grits were awful! It was like chewing small pebbles. An utter fail of the highest order. Ihop would have been a better option all around. read more

De-lish. We had to wait in line on the Sunday that we went, but it was worth it! The food was excellent. The prices were fair too. I had a veggie omelet, and had specific instructions to have egg whites ($1 extra) and no onions, and no butter on my toast. They delivered it perfectly! I see those responses as important. They accomodate very well. Also, our service was friendly, timely, and we got everything we wanted. A classy breakfast place, great for family and friends. Not too loud, not too quiet. My husband and I got here at about 830am with no wait and were able to sit ourselves. We were quickly greeted by our server. We both ordered the french toast and had absolutely no complaints. I would definitely return, around the same time though because they are usually really busy around 11am (brunch time). read more
