Outstanding in every way. I've wanted to dine here for years but thought it would be too expensive, fussy or formal for my taste and budget. I was wrong on all fronts. We dined at The Cellar lounge, which offers more casual fare. The formal dining room offered multi-course meals, which is more than I wanted...this time. Everyone we encountered was extremely gracious, warm and welcoming, especially the bartender who gave us exemplary service. The food was beautifully presented and absolutely delicious. We enjoyed black truffle arancini, a beet, citrus and goat cheese salad, short ribs with polenta, kale and carrots and a Valhrona chocolate cake with vanilla ice cream. Very cute and fancy place in Yosemite. The bread basket had very flakey croissants biscuits and muffins. We came here in a group for lunch and it was great fun but everyone left hungry due to the super small portions. I get that this is one of those places that you go to because the food is amazing but I def left hangry and wanting more! The hot chocolate here is dessert fudge because it is so rich! The filet was small with about a few pieces of filet and two potatoes but so delicious and well presented. Poached eggs also needed more salt but the sauces and one egg and two pieces of salmon was tasty. The Scottish eggs also came in three. They do make adjustments for vegan! The best part was all the servers coming out with plates at once. So synchronized! We ate here on the patio last weekend during our visit in the area. The seemed to have follow the right protocols and we felt safe. The service was great and the food was excellent. The property is beautiful and we would like to stay at the chateau on our next visit. I recommend the duck dish and the miso sea bass. We weren't a fan of the bread or the tomato salad. The salad had no taste and it wasn't chilled so it was a little off. For the dessert, the chocolate torte was not as sweet as it looked so it was perfect! The Elderberry House was such a great find. I would never would have expected the degree of culinary expertise from such a small hidden gem. My girlfriend and I were in Oakhurst for a wedding and decided to have a nice quite dinner together one of the extra nights. We had reservations for 7pm and arrived just on time. We arrived to find plenty of parking and were taken right to our table with no wait. The staff from the moment we walked in were extremely professional and accommodating, while making us feel at home. The pre fixe menu left us plenty of options to choose from. Each dish was beautifully decorated and tasted as good as they looked. The wine selection was extensive giving us plenty of choices to pick from. The house sommelier even offered to help us chose a glass. If you are like me you you might just pick the wine pairing that had been perfectly paired with each dish. All in all the total experience was above and beyond my expectations and would definitely recommend The Elderberry House to others. read more

Never expected to find such restaurant in this small town. My fiancé took me here to celebrate my birthday. We did the four courses tasting which consist of a soup/salad, appetizer, entree, and dessert. FYI, the three courses tasting does not include appetizer. To start off, we ordered drinks - elderflower and margarita. Then we ordered a salad and soup, appetizers - crab cake & caviar, entrees - ribeye & duck breast. For dessert we ordered crème brûlée and coffee ganache. I really liked the crab cake, soup, and ribeye. If I remembered correctly, the soup was made with butternut squash and heavy cream. It was creamy and rich. You can't get enough of it! Rib eye was cooked spot on. It was tender and juicy. I didn't like the duck breast that much. It wasn't my kind of plate. The elderflower drink was refreshing. The alcohol was not overwhelming like the margarita. We ended up ordering a second drink. If you like caviar, the appetizer was not bad either. It was a little salty but the mini sour dough balance it out. As for the dessert portion, the presentation of the crème brûlée was nice but I preferred the original crème brûlée. The coffee ganache was okay as well. If you're in town visiting or lived in the area, try this place out. Made a reservation Friday for Saturday dinner. Woke up with fever Saturday morning and tried to cancel the reservation. Erica, the general mgr, firmly and robotically insisted on charging $25 per person cancellation fee. $50 total in penalties for cancelling a reservation. It's enough that there's a penalty, the abrasive, non-empathetic attitude was more than extra and terrible for a first impression of the Elderberry House. read more

Regarding: 3-course meal for $52 prix fixe, vegan request. Erna's just recently changed hands within the past year, so I'm doing another review. Both times I've attended since the changeover I've been disappointed. Both times, they were aware ahead of time that I was vegan and said it was no problem. Last evening, when we arrived the "Vegan Menu" consisted of a starter salad, a couple of ounces of vegetables for the MAIN course and a small poof of a dessert. We notified them that a 3" round of "seasonal veggies" is not sufficient for a main course, especially for what they're charging. They agreed to add couscous to the dish. ADDED on 6/19/19 - Erna's invited us back to make up for the bad vegan experience. We (3 vegans) were served a thoughtfully-planned out 7-course menu. This is the type of meal that we should have received on the first visit, because we had told them ahead of time on both occasions we were vegan. The wait staff is always courteous and the ambiance is elegant and graceful. Erna's bread is always top-notch and they accommodated us by bringing oil & vinegar instead of butter. I don't even know where to begin. Our reservations were at 8 PM (which is a little late for most, but we live about an hour away). The restaurant sits on top of a hill amidst mature redwoods, the scenery is absolutely gorgeous. Upon arriving to Erna's, the air was crisp and the scent in the air was fresh and woodsy (the type of scent you would expect at a camp ground). The interior is classy and intimate. We started the night with a round of craft cocktails, an old fashioned for my husband and a dirty martini for myself. I asked our waiter if they had bleu cheese olives to garnish my martini and she responded "unfortunately we do not, but I can see if we can stuff some for you." I responded, "no that won't be necessary, the normal olives would be just fine, thank you" (I am easy to please and can also enjoy Spanish queen olives) Our cocktails arrive, and I find BLEU CHEESE OLIVES in my martini!! Oh my goodness, I couldn't believe that the staff went above and beyond to accommodate my preference even when I stated that the normal olives that they carry were just fine! (---mind blown---the staff removed the pimento from the Spanish olives and hand stuffed them with bleu cheese!!) Our first tasting was a gift from the chef, it was some sort of Asian fruit? that was artfully taken out of its shell, prepared and placed right back into its shell. It was very refreshing and cold, had hints of ginger and other indescribable flavors. The option that I chose for my starter was a broth based soup, the bowl was served with delicate mushrooms and other garnishes (visually with just the raw ingredients, I was thinking to myself "where is the broth?!") The chef came with a tea kettle full of the soup broth and hand served each guest individually. The next course was the main course, rack of lamb. It was presented beautifully and cooked to perfection. The lamb was not at all "gamey" and totally satisfied my umami taste palette. Lastly, we finished our meal with house made macaroons, they were fluffy and the texture was on point. Overall, after a very lengthy review, our dining experience was the best experience that we have ever had (my husband and I are huge foodies, we are not scared to try small hole in the wall places where the areas are sketch, meanwhile we can also appreciate fine dining)! This is a quite the hidden gem that we are blessed with within the central valley, it is a must try for any occasion. The food was delectable and the service was extraordinary. read more

This was an unexpected found for us. I saw this place in Yelp and decided to pick it for our anniversary celebration. The staffs are attentive and the taste is well balance. They let us charge our Tesla while we dined. They parked our car in the front for us afterward. Was visiting Yosemite and looked for a place to eat dinner and this place made me curious. We couldn't imagine such a fancy restaurant in the area, it's located in a French spa and resort I believe. Anyways we walked in and we were seated right away. The inside is very elegant, we were definitely underdressed I feel. Service was fast and very helpful. The menu is you try to choose from either 3 or 4 course dinner. 3 courses you get , soup/ salad, main and dessert and 4 courses you get the same plus appetizer. We both got the 4 courses and ordered all different things. All of it was delicious, I think my favorites were duck breast from entrees and caviar and blini from appetizers. My girlfriend got the chocolate covered strawberry cocktail, she said it was a bit strong but was pretty good. Amazing experience from start to finish! You arrive to what looks like a beautiful home tucked away in the hills. Beautiful garden and nice interior. Decorations were a bit odd, but it created an intimate atmosphere. We chose the three course meal because the appetizers didn't sound special or appetizing. I am sure they were delicious... Wait staff was attentive and had great recommendations. Food was plated beautifully and flavor had minimal flaws. Three courses was enough to make me full. My favorite part was the amuse bouche... We love to spend our anniversary at the Elderberry House. As "locals", it is so nice to have an elegant restaurant here at the gateway to Yosemite. Our evening was all we expected, until the bill arrived... We had been given 2-$100 dining gift cards/certificates which should have easily paid for our $156 dinner expenses. When the server/ somellier /manager "jack of all trades" returned with our check...she stated that one of our certificates did not include a "gold gift card" and was therefore CONFISCATED. We owed $56 ! I asked to see the manager, and was told that "She WAS the manager!" (could have guessed that one...) There never was a gold gift card sent with the $100 certificate. Both of the $100 gifts were in their original envelopes when presented at the end of the evening. The "inference" was that WE were trying to cheat the restaurant. My husband ended up paying the $56, we were not given our "questionable" $100 gift certificate back... but we asked them to research if the certificate ever had a claim presented. The next day, we were told by "the Jack of all trades" that there was a period of time where certificates were not available to go out with "gold cards" and our dates fit that time period and had not been claimed. Never was an apology given, never was a mistake owned, never was there a hint of regret stated! We were made "whole" financially, but cannot for the life of me understand why it is impossible for this "Jack of all trades" to utter the simple words: I'm sorry...it was our mistake...we would like to make this up to you... Our beautiful dinner left an awful taste in our mouths. The Elderberry House should be better than this! So sad.... read more

Didn't expect this in Oakhurst, but my wife and I were pleasantly surprised. The entrance to the restaurant is not marked with neon signs; in fact, there's no clue at all that a fine dining experience awaits beyond the door. But once inside you're clearly someplace unexpectedly special. The staff was friendly but very formal. It was like watching a command performance as they took care of the tables. Being there in early November meant it was uncrowded and we slowly wound through the menu. For a very special occasion I'd say this would be perfect, if pricey. The staff is exceptional let me start there as I can't say enough about how attentive the entire staff is and extremely helpful. It's the only way I can squeeze out 3 stars for todays dining experience. If I were only rating the staff they would get five stars. The staff calls prior to arrival to verify food allergies and see what your celebrating. The food on the other hand leaves a lot to be desired. I've dined at many fine establishments across the US and I don't mind paying for great food. Our bill for two was $414. The portions are small which didn't matter as much as the quality of what was received. The beet salad was great, crab cake was cold, the rib eye felt like I was visiting a sizzler. I'm still shocked over how tough a medium rare rib eye could possibly be. It was so tough I only ate half. The desert and alcohol are the highlights. The drinks though be prepared are on the small side. We ordered 3 mixed drinks each ranging in price from $16 to $17. If your after steak I'd recommend a different establishment that knows how to cook a steak. After all the hype from the people who heard we were going I wanted this to be great and it left me wishing I'd gone some place who actually has great food. Maybe it was an off night. I will be updating this review after our event, however I feel the need to leave a review now. Fiance and I were looking for a small venue in CA, possibly Yosemite to have our wedding. After spending all day down into the valley looking at venues, and not really falling in love with anything, we had a tour of Erna/Chateau Du Sureau last thing of the day. We were treated to not only a wonderful tour with Carina, the event manager, but an AMAZING meal. I have a severe dairy allergy and chef went above and beyond to make sure I got the same amount of food as my fiance and Gabrielle our server was amazing. We left feeling so full and had no question in our mind, that we wanted our wedding there. In the following months, the planning process with Carina was so smooth, I felt like I was barley having to lift a finger as a bride. We brought our mothers for high tea in January and were treated like royalty. Again, chef went above and beyond to make sure I got pastries and other traditional high tea items, I did not feel like I missed out on ANYTHING. Now that COVID has happened, we decided to change the date of our wedding, because who the heck knows what is happening any given day. Carina made the whole process so smooth. Once at Chateau du Sureau, you don't want to leave, so make dinner reservations, you will be so glad you did. Loved Erna's Elderberry House. As soon as we were seated on the patio, menu's of the night's offerings was delivered to our table. As we opened the menu, we noticed they were personalized with our names, that is a special touch and excellent service. The menu is offered in 5 courses and they had two choices that were not on the menu to accommodate any special dietary needs or diets. You are free to have all 5 courses or have just what you want, they are very flexible. We started with a bottle of wine from the extensive wine list. We had a lovely Meritage from South Africa, the perfect start to a perfect meal. We each had a first course, main dish and finished with an incredible dessert. Erna was at the restaurant and came around to each table and talked to the diners and guests, what a delightful woman. I can honestly say, this was one of the best meals we have ever had, the service was excellent and we were very well taken care of. Plan on dressing nice for dinner. Some were in nice jeans, but you will be more comfortable if you have a nice sundress in the summer for women and slacks and a collared shirt for the men. Some men were in jackets also, just no shorts, flip flops, and casual attire. The meal will set you back a few bucks, it isn't inexpensive, but so worth every penny. Two minute review: went specifically to enjoy a cocktail at the bar. What a joy! The mixologist,Shane, is a show onto himself. Nothing I can say can prepare you for it. We enjoy a well made drink, Shane prepared each drink explaining the history of the drink, it's ingredients and his take on making it special. Special it was. All the reviews here talk about how pricy the restaurant is, not so the bar. Just as a show it would have been a bargain add the wonderful drinks and ready bar food and we were delighted. read more
