Memorable, outstanding, delicious are the first words that come to mind. My wife and I talked to a local that spoke very highly of this place so we decided to try it. The exterior is not appealing - nothing fancy at all. The inside is pretty small. Looks can be deceiving. The food - packs a big punch when it comes to flavor. We had a crab with artichoke for appetizer - very tasty - The Salad - very fresh, tasty vegtables, good dressing. The Salmon was some of the best I've had in a long time. The wine was good - priced correctly. The service was outstanding. Fast, attentive, zero mistakes, food was hot, tasty, cooked correctly. The Salmon was really flawless - quite tasty and had a great texture - just a wee bit of a crispyness on the exterior. It was just about perfect.... even the serving size was spot on. Elk House Eatery has become one of our favorite places to go. It's down on A1A just north of Crescent Beach. A very unassuming, A-frame with a nice covered front porch. Don't let the gravel driveway and simple building deter you. The food is amazing! We had buffalo steak and seared ahi Tuna for appetizers. The attention to detail on the dishes is amazing. It's 5-Star cuisine but better portions. It really is a hidden gem. We laughed drank wine and enjoyed the front porch for hours. Our server Mark did a marvelous job. My boyfriend doesn't cook much so I think he might live here on weekends. Lol My favorites are the scallops on curry pesto linguine, shrimp and grits, tuna tartare, crab dip, cheese curds, and a Cobb salad that I split with my boyfriend (he eats the chicken and I eat the chick peas). Menu was excellent and well priced but it is too bad that the service did not compliment the menu. We were completely ignored by a young waiter who couldn't have been bothered to attend to his customers. We had to ask other servers on multiple occasions just to get a glass of water. As a business owner, I would have fired him on the spot. We will go back because of the menu but hope to get a different server. This place is amazing! I went with my husband last week and haven't stopped thinking about the Crap Dip appetizer. The atmosphere they have created makes you feel as though you have been transported to a beautiful château by the beach. We were able to enjoy the Rainbow Trout, and Wild Caught Sea Scallops dishes. Brought cake for my grand dads 80th bday, they waited til the end after we collectively spent over 1200 dollars to be told that they wont bring outside desserts out. An 80th bday cake! The "owner" said she was doing us a big favor and she cant serve outside dessert. I was told this hooknosed red snapper owned the place. Her first words when we walked in was that she wouldnt push the table together. So warm and fuzzy. She didnt like me looking and laughing at her so she stepped to me and kicked me out as i was leaving. No one EVER called and said they wouldn't serve the cake (planned a week in advance) and even worse when we called before we came , to potentially preorder dessert , they where out of everything. My wife and I visited The Elk House Eatery last night to celebrate our 37th wedding anniversary. The food was incredible! I had the filet mignon with melted bleu cheese and a savory mushroom based sauce and my wife had the bourbon marinated hanger steak. The steaks were cooked to perfection and the flavors in them, and the side dishes, were excellent. They offer a nice variety of wines that are reasonably priced which was refreshing. Tony, our waiter was patient as we explored the menu, shared his knowledge when asked and was very attentive throughout the evening. If your are looking for excellent food with awesome service, we highly recommend this place. Had dinner here with some friends last week. I was drawn to the shape of the building while driving and had to check it out. It's an old wooden A-frame building you can't miss on A1A with plenty of parking. We got there right when it opened at 5 pm. Every table was pretty much taken. There was also outdoor seating but it was too cold and wet. The menu had something for everyone. The waitress told us about a few specials but didn't give us prices. We started of with a very tasty appetizer of deep fried curds served with a datil ranch dipping sauce. I'm not gonna lie but this was amazing. Our main courses were another story. We all ordered a different dish. I had the Thai chili Shrimp and grits. The grits were very thick. Not creamy like they should be. My chicken sausage was burnt on one end and very dry. The Rainbow trout entree was very bland. My friend who ordered the Mayport peel and eat shrimp had to not only peel his shrimp he had to devein each one. It was so unbelievable to us that we couldn't stop laughing at the poor guy. If this is supposed to be upscale bistro those shrimp should have been probably cleaned. When my hubby ordered the Elk medallions that was on special he was asked which side he wanted so he picked potato. His plate came out with the elk on top of a pile of mashed potatoes and a baked potato. The waitress should have told him it came with potatoes so he could have ordered a salad. I have eaten at The Elk House since it first opened. I have gone many times with family and friends to enjoy its food. Although it is usually noisy because of its acoustics and crowded because the food is usually good, I have to say this past Tuesday my friends and I were disappointed. We did not mind the longer wait because of a full house and made no requests except for another glass of water. The special appetizer, flounder bites, came hot and delicious. My friends remembered their elk filets from past experiences but found they were not as flavorful or tender as in previous visits. My go to is usually the cioppino which usually rates a 10. Tuesday's meal was not. The large shrimp were pretty raw while the shellfish, while opened, had to be scrapped out and slimy not whole. The pasta and sauce were warm not hot. When asked byTony our waiter how the meal was , I replied the fish was not cooked, and he did not really acknowledge that my shrimp was not cooked enough and never offered more cooking , an alternative meal or anything. When I said it to the waitress who removed a dirty plate her response was that it never happened before and walked off without looking at me. We were never asked if dessert or coffee was wanted, had to ask for a check and we're not made to feel welcomed at all. My dinner companions did not say anything negative about their meals and I only made those two comments. Previous meals and service had always been good. Being busy was not an acceptable excuse as they usually are busy and still do a great job. We paid the check and left the acceptable tip. When you can spent $50 or more for a meal per person you expect better. read more

So probably the first time since becoming a Yelpie am I looking to award 6 or 7 stars. We first honey mooned in Saint Augustine 30 years ago and we have been coming back for vacations ever since. This tune it seemed to have changed here in the Oldest Town in America and not in a good way. We had thought our vacation and dining had made a turn for the worse to the point we didn't choose to eat at our favorite places we had discovered over the years but to take a chance and try a new adventure. I am here to declare that thru 30 years of dining in Saint Augustine and I'm pretty sure we've tried them all, THIS place is the best atmosphere, the best service, best total dining experience, we have EVER encountered in 30 years of coming here. The food will leave you speechless! A broad selection of wines to compliment each entree. If you've never had duck served medium rare? You're missing a real treat. The raspberry port sauce was stunning! A perfect balance of flavors in the shrimp/crab/chorizo nachos. The chioppino was better than I have ever experienced in ANY italian diner. We finished this wonderful experience with an apple crumb dessert topped with caramel and ice cream. Terri our server was an angel and a Godsend. Every direction, every selection she guided us to was the perfect choice. This will be our number one spot in SA from this day forward. What a fabulous dinner! We had the fries and gravy with cheese curds to start and that was fabulous! My husband is Canadian so he's pretty particular about poutine. This was spot on!
