My partner and I visited last week around 5pm on Friday - they had just reopened and we didn't make a reservation, but we were seated relatively quickly. This was our first time at their space in Kendall Yards and the vibes/decor were spot on. Our server offered us a choice of table which was a lovely and we sat near the window by the water (can't wait for the patio to open!). The cocktails were delicious, as was every dish we ordered. We started with the salmon dip and dirty fries to share and the salmon dip was absolutely phenomenal. The fries were a huge portion, covered in braised pork. They were a tad salty for our palette but still yummy. I had the cod as my main, my partner had the hangar steak. Both were beautifully plated and balanced. I just love this place. We went during their Sunday Supper event which was Greek fare. I was lured in by the moussaka (it was everything I hoped for) but it was all completely delicious. The chocolate almond orange confection for dessert was truly a sensation. Also had the best mocktail - an earl grey lemon soda. Understated but super refreshing. I have been wanting to get here since they had their first location (made it to Hunt for cocktails). Finally, after many home improvement that seemed to take forever (3 yrs) I convinced my significant other that it was time! Time for something delicious, special, not found elsewhere. Though Spokane has good eateries, many that we loved have gone the wayside. Ruins has just gone to a new location and parking is free. Custom cocktails from the bartender were perfect. We were a bit early for the dinner menu but it was worth the wait. I had King Salmon paired with those little potato coins, perfectly cooked with an awesome sauce, yea I said that. My other half had Meatloaf with mashed potato and salsa verde. He's so practical and also loves meatloaf. Both of these are worth bragging about. Let's not forget dessert, though in my rush to consume that decadent chocolate tarte I did forget to take a picture of either the menu or said dessert. It was that good! Thick chocolate, caramel drizzle and lovely vanilla ice cream. Who could pass on that? We left sated and satisfied as well as convinced that a return is warranted. The food was quite good. The appetizer "loaded fries" was incredibly rich and such a large portion, it's a steal for that price. The salmon skin was a little overcooked so it couldn't be cut into with forks. It was an awkward evening as we arrived and asked for a table outside, knowing there would be a wait. The host person was unable to speak in full sentences to us or make eye contact but eventually said the wait was about 45 minutes. I asked if we could sit at the bar while we wait and they said yes. We had great bar service for drinks and had just ordered an appetizer about ten minutes in when the host person came up to us and said our table was ready. I asked if we should close out our bar tab and they just stared at me without words. So we awkwardly got up to follow them to our table, and I told my husband I would go back and pay our bar tab. The bartender saw us being shown a table and was upset he was not informed we were being moved. Overall, I don't think I would return here. As good as the food is, other than the view the ambience is lacking. The host person's inability to communicate with customers made it awkward, and we witnessed several other problems caused that messed up the wait staff. I do want to note that our server and bartender were wonderful. At the entree prices it would be nice if the front of house staff weren't wearing ripped baggy sweatshirts and dirty jeans. Our server Micah clearly didn't want to be there and didn't even ask how our food was. My friends and I went to Ruins shortly after their opening. I got their pasta with meatballs and burrata cheese. The dish seemed to lack flavor and the dish was luke warm when they served it to me. It felt like it was sitting on a counter for awhile. The service seemed to be slow, and the place was pretty empty. The patio was lovely and a great spot to sit on a nice day and people watch. I do not recommend due to the terribly rude service. I went to Ruins for dinner and was extremely disappointed. First off, all the information online is wrong: incorrect hours, wrong address, and no one answers the phone. I showed up at the Nettleton location on a Friday to find locked doors at 5pm, even though the sign said they opened at 11:30. No explanation posted. Once we finally got in, service was the worst I've ever experienced. The patio was closed, and our server came by once, we never got a chance to order more food or drinks (not even water). We had to flag down the Expo just to get our check after over an hour of waiting, and she was incredibly rude, saying she had no idea what we ordered and didn't know why our server wasn't handling it. No one cleared our table the entire time. The food? Incredible. Small portions, but absolutely delicious--I would've gladly ordered more if we'd had a chance. Disappointing The stuffed Crimini mushrooms are nothing special. I really couldn't taste the stuffing. The roasted Brussels sprouts were similar. They just tasted like chopped-up sprouts and they were pretty wet. Nothing about them tasted 'smoked'. The sausage rolls could have come from any store. Wrapped in unremarkable dough. This plate with similar to 'Pigs in a blanket'. I did like the garlic aioli dip. I enjoyed the atmosphere and we had a good and delightful waitress. Visited Ruins for the first time tonight. I cannot say how fantastic everything was from ambiance, to service, to food. Our server Jay was a real delight and was so knowledgeable about everything from drinks to food. The food was so delicious and we enjoyed watching the chefs prepare in the kitchen. I don't know where to begin. WOW Ruins, you truly know how to woo. We loved every moment of our dining experience. The space is inviting with clean lines and comfort in every gaze. We chose a cozy corner table near the bar. Our server was friendly and checked back often. The barkeep made my off menu cocktail perfectly. She was absolutely delightful to chat with and even stopped over to ask about my garnish preference. Now that's a barkeep(er). Let's talk about the food. It's not often I have this many exquisite options as a vegetarian. Ruins does a lot with vegetables. The seasonings they use are completely orchestrated to make for flavor bursts in every bite. That beet salad with fresh cheese was marvelous. And the brussel sprouts were so perfectly shaved my stomach didn't even feel at all rumbley later. These two dishes were the highlights for sure. The pumpkin mac was surprisingly light and easy to eat. It was rich but not too over the top. Some bites had lovely mushrooms that were sparingly placed a top this dish. Our meal was pretty, delicious, and fun. We even saved room for a few bites of their olive oil cake. Not my favorite but I was glad I tried it and know what it is now. Ruins is still open during construction! They've been on my list to visit for a while so I wanted to show support during the chaos that is construction season. To start, I was thoroughly impressed by the drink menu. It features full proof, low proof, and zero proof cocktails. You can tell they put a lot of thought and creativity into their drinks. I got the Nom de Plume and it was really good! Moving on to dinner, my friend and I were a little disappointed at the lack of pescatarian and vegetarian options for main entrees. We ended up ordering off the snack/appetizer menu since they had more to choose from. The brussels sprouts had great flavor and the curry egg salad was well executed. Nice restaurant and great customer service. They are in a new location now as well, that's set up a little better than their last spot, and also a lot brighter. It's still a smaller space so consider that when attempting to go on busier nights. I got the Okonomiyaki and it had a little kick to it, would definitely recommend. It was delicious. My partner got the burger which he enjoyed. I also stuck with a smaller meal so I could try the desserts. We got the baba au rum, I liked the banana and the ice cream, but the rum cake was a little too wet for me. The chocolate dessert was really tasty though. My last time at Ruins was back in 2020 when they were on Monroe. After a few years, I finally got to visit Spokane and eat at Ruins again tonight. This restaurant has always had a special place in my heart because of their unique menu and due to it being home to one of my girlfriend and I's first dates back in 2020. The ambiance and location of their "new" (to me) location on Riverside is awesome! The Monroe location was super cute but also way smaller. I'm happy to report that after many years the new location met and exceeded my already high expectations. I had the Chicken Schnitzel for dinner and the olive oil cake for dessert. The chicken was incredibly juicy and the breading was crispy and well-seasoned. Around the rim of the plate was a super yummy olive oil that soaked into the eggplant puree and roasted tomatoes, and ultimately tied the dish together. The olive oil cake was salty to the point of being savory, which was perfectly balanced by the sweetness from the blackberry sorbet and plums. The chicken schnitzel might be up to personal preference, but I highly recommend the olive oil cake for dessert. Only $10 and reasonably portioned for 2 (I ate it all alone). I didn't catch his name, but my waiter made me a great old fashioned and was super friendly. I also love the overall vibes of the restaurant! It started to fill up around 6pm on a Tuesday, so be sure to get here early or make a reservation. read more

After hearing great things about Ruins from multiple people, I was excited to check it out during Restaurant Week last night with my partner and two other couples. Though the ambience was nice and our server was friendly, the meal was a huge disappointment. Why? - Disappointing Course 1. I ordered the roasted carrots, as did a few people at our table. As someone else commented, "I've always wondered what it would taste like if you made chili using mostly baby carrots." I had never wondered that personally, but now I know. - Disappointing Course 2. None of the Course 2 options were gluten-free, which I knew beforehand. Our server offered me another Course 1 item instead, so I requested the hummus, which according to table-mates was quite good. But when it arrived, I was informed that they had run out of hummus and had substituted some kind of bean puree instead. Unfortunately, my stomach gets almost as unhappy about beans as it does about gluten, so that was a bust. At least they threw in a plate of cucumber slices and raw baby carrots. - Disappointing Course 3. My girlfriend, who's a great cook, once marinated some chicken for about 24 hours, and the texture got... weird. Strange and rubbery, with some kind of skin-like outer layer to it. That's exactly what arrived for my final course, along with decent mashed potatoes and... steamed baby carrots! Their general menu might be great, but my meal wasn't. In fact, nobody at the table chose to box up anything, and we left as quickly as we reasonably could. And if I never eat another baby carrot again, that would probably be too soon. read more

It was 9pm on a Friday night and we figured it'd be too late for dinner at most places. Searched for places open til 11 and Ruins was one of the options. We've been wanting to try Ruins for a long time, since they were at the Monroe location years back, so tonight seemed like the perfect night! Discovered their new location is the far end of Kendall Yards. We got there about 9:35 and were advised the kitchen was about to close, but they seated us anyway and advised they'd take care of us. The inside had a really nice, fresh, modern (but by no means boring), warm atmosphere, but being a full-moon summer night, we opted to sit outside. We love the dark/low light, and the lantern style lighting outside combined with it being rather dark was SUCH a vibe. For dinner we started with the scallop crudo - such an interesting and luxurious flavor combo we scarfed down in minutes. For entrees, my partner had the meatloaf, which he described as "the best meatloaf [he'd] ever had." I opted for the King Salmon, which was succulent and tender, with thin and crispy salty skin that added such fun additional texture and flavor to the dish. Not to mention the snap peas and the basil oil that were an incredible flavor combination with the salmon. Portion sizes were PERFECT. We were extremely impressed with this place - the service, the vibe, and the food were 10/10. Two entrees and an appetizer was about $80 not including tip, so excellent value. Went there for lunch. Was told that they were out of ham and bacon. How does a restaurant that has only been open for an hour run out of food? Service was very slow, seemed to be only one person for the whole restaurant. Ordered the cubano sandwich (minus the ham, because they were out of it!) Asked them to hold the pickle, which they did, but they also held the cheese and mayo. Waiter took it back to be fixed. Sandwich was served on sourdough, with one of the bread slices turned with the crust inward, probably so I wouldn't notice I had an end piece. $17 for a small sandwich and a handful of lettuce is too expensive. My wife liked the chicken salad sandwich, although it didn't have the bacon it was supposed to have, because, again, they were out of it. I can understand a restaurant running out of items near closing time, but not an hour after opening. It does have a great view of the river from their deck, but I choose restaurants by their food, not the view. read more

The place is in a great location and nice atmosphere, however the service is lacking and the food just okay. We went when they first opened and had terrible service, but chalked it up to being new and getting kinks worked out. Gave them another try last night and the service was slow, server was not very attentive as far picking up dirty plates or asking if we needed more drinks. The chicken order hadn't been placed so came out 30 minutes after the rest of our meals. When our bills arrived, our items were all mixed up. It took three tries and multiple staff members to get it straightened out. Later one server told us with parties our size they usually require one bill only. No one told us that in advance. There were 8 of us, so we were obliged to pay the automatic 20% tip even though the service we got was sub-par. I'd like this place to make it, but they need to get their systems worked out and ramp up the customer service. We won't likely return again at this point. read more

Unanimously, we all wanted to try Ruins during restaurant week-- we have had so many people rave to us about this place, we were so excited to try it. For the first course, we tried all three dishes amongst us - unanimously, the hummus was pretty good. However the harissa baby carrots with yogurt(?) were bland and the pork pate was strange with super crunchy little chips that hurt my mouth to chew. The second courses, three of us ordered the pumpkin mac and cheese. Also super bland. I understand that it is experimental/gastropub vibes but I'm a cook - I taste my food before I serve it. This was bleh it really needed salt- two of us lucky ducks chose to order the garlic noodles which were the best thing in the entire list of Ruin's RW courses. Maybe the meatballs were the realwinner, I guess we'll never know? The salmon was cooked perfectly- but the jerk tofu was bland, and really thick not at all crispy or satisfying-- but the real disappointment was the sausage stuffed chicken situation was just straight up weird textured, it reminded me of the time I over marinated my own chicken and acid ate away at the texture. We went out for pizza that night. When we got our bill, unfortunately because we were a party of 6, they informed us there was no way to split the drinks off of the other parties checks -- only pay evenly among 3 cards. A non-drinkers personal nightmare since our bill was likely $30-40 cheaper than the other two parties. Just pretty awkward all around. We were reminded why we don't go out to dinner. $130/couple later with a 20% auto gratuity because we're a party of 6 was just the cherry on top of a terrible experience. I was warned that at the end of Restaurant Week the chefs get pretty burnt out. So I'd maybe cancel your reservation if you're planning to go for the end of RW. I'll save you a few hundred dollars. truthfully I would've paid more if it meant better food. It's unfortunate because overall the staff was friendly, nice, timely, and the ambiance was really lovely. But when you have to raid the fridge at 9:30pm because you're starving after paying for but not eating an expensive dinner - it literally Ruins your night. read more

I give the Ruins high marks for what it is. A casual, almost rustic location and atmosphere with a pleasant surprise inside. They serve creative meals with a fluid menu. Just hoping the owners read this. I'm a big fan of the restaurant when it was on Monroe. Haven't been to the new location. My elderly parents have tried to go twice for lunch but it has been closed both times. They try and call but no one ever answers the phone. They went to the restaurant to make sure they were open and to make a reservation and were able to get someone to answer the door (it was closed for lunch that day apparently) and they said they don't have a phone. The staff was asked if they would be open for lunch the next day, and they said "let me check" and upon returning informed them that they would be open tomorrow for lunch and took their reservation for 1pm. When my parents showed up for their reservation the next day for a birthday celebration with 5 people, the restaurant was closed and lights off (June 12 2025). What gives? I want Ruins to thrive but this is not the way to get it done. read more
