I was here several weeks ago with a friend who introduced me to the business. If you follow me you may have read my post. Specifically about the pineapple cream cheese dessert empanada! I came today to get a dozen, 13 actually, to share with friends on the 4th! I arrived while the counter person was offloading supplies. He said they opened at 11am. I placed an order for 1 dozen pineapple, cream cheese empanadas. I got there at 10:20am. Diego said he would work on it and they would be ready when they opened @11am. Unfortunately, Diego did not have my order ready when they opened. I clearly told him when he was bringing in product for the day that I need a dozen pineapple cream cheese empanadas when they opened. He said OK and continue bringing in product. At 11 AM when they opened, I went in and to my surprise Diego had not placed my order and it definitely wasn't ready. I was a bit annoyed and a tad bit confused. I said to him why didn't you place the order like I asked you to when you were bringing in supplies it went on to say that look if you need payment prior to getting the order that would not have been a problem, but you let me believe you were going to start making empanadas so they'd be ready when you opened. Diego counted with "no that's not what I said, I told you that you could place your order when we opened". To say I was more than annoyed would be a colossal understatement! I was so impressed with this product that I ordered a dozen to share three each with people that I consider special. Unfortunately, for Diego and the business owner, his unprofessionalism and outright deception cost him a potentially long-term customer. Like all of you I earned my money and I want to spend it supporting businesses that appreciate those people who support them. I was so disrespected that I choose not to get over it, but rather spend my money at a restaurant that has good product and values. It's customers more than this establishment! Does this restaurant make it quality product absolutely! Does this restaurant value customer is coming early in placing orders with them directly and honoring what they say? Absolutely not, at least not in my case! This restaurant goes from 5 to 2 stars because of this awful interaction. First time here and was very good! Parking was very easy and to order was easy. The artichoke baked was very flavorful. The cheese was gooey and fresh. The sweet beef and chicken avocado were two of my favorite. With all have plentiful of filling and fresh tasting. The hawaiian was a bit too cheesy with not enough ham or pineapple The dessert ones were good- but very sweet! So if you arent a sweet person you shouldnt get these. Empanada perfection! The restaurant is very small inside and there are only about 6 tables inside, so we opted for a to-go order. The line was long but moved quickly. Once we reached the front of the line the person taking our order was pleasant and informative. It took about 35 mins to get our order. Which makes perfect sense because we chose the baked option over fried, which I'm sure added extra time. The faves were the chicken curry for the savory and the pineapple cream cheese for the dessert. Empanadas Perfectas! In the past, my opinion of The Empanada Factory would have been very positive. When I first encountered this establishment, the empanadas, in my opinion, were great. Having never traveled to Argentina, I cannot gauge the authenticity as well as someone who lives there or has traveled there. But, as a Houston native, what I can say, unequivocally, is: there has long been a strong contingent of Argentinians, and, clearly, this city has had numerous good examples of Argentinian cuisine. One of my childhood faves, Lalo's Pizza, comes to mind. Empanada-wise, I have enjoyed La Argentina (the closed location on San Felipe), Marine's (Colombian establishment) and, in the past, The Empanada Factory. However, I think something changed between my initial visits to The Empanada Factory and my latest visit. Not only was the quality and texture of the empanadas off, but customer service was also an afterthought here. To be fair, even Marine's off Westheimer, which is supposed to be the most authentic Argentinian spot in Houston, had quality/texture issues the last time I went. But at least over there, the customer service was good. I hope the Empanada Factory improves going forward, but I would also prefer to just try other empanada spots around the city. read more

I had a hard time finding the listing for this business because the sign out front is Argentina Cafe Empanada Factory and Yelp lists it as The Empanada Factory. My wife and I loved each and every one of the savory Empanadas we tried. They do dessert empanadas too and we'll try some next time. We thought we would have some leftovers but they were so good nothing made it out the door! You can get most of them baked or fried. The fried shredded chicken empanada was amazing. The baked beef was just as good. The fried shredded chicken avocado was stellar. The Mediterranean beef was our favorite by a slight margin. I love this place. Everything we have ordered here is great, but that dessert empanada is the stuff of legends. Even the whipped cream on top tasted freshly made and not out of a can. The fruit filling inside was sweet without being overly sweet and I am glad I saved room for it. This place looks like it stays busy with take out orders, as the interior only has room for a few tables. We find that adds to the experience when we dine there, as its easy to strike up conversations or share oder envy from two feet away. Came here for a light dinner on Friday since you order each empanada ala carte, so you can choose how full you get! The menu has lots of options, so I ended up getting 3 so I could feel like I tried a bit of everything: the ground chicken (baked), ground beef (baked), and 4 cheese. All of them were great, the beef and chicken were my favorites. The breading is perfectly crispy, forming perfect pockets to hold the delicious stuffings. This is a very small establishment with limited parking as it's part of a strip mall. There are 2 designated parking spots just for the Empanada Factory right in front of the place. Inside there is a counter where you place your order and there are maybe 3 sets of tables inside and 2 sets of tables outside where you can eat. This isn't really a place where you can sit and comfortably dine, it's more meant for quick bites while you're on your way back to work. There is an extensive menu of many different kinds of empanadas. I tried some of the less traditional ones. The chorizo was just regular sausage with cheese, and the ham and cheese was chunks of ham with cheese. I do think that there is a nice crust on these and it makes it nice to look at. I also appreciate how the different emapandas are shaped differently which not only helps them recognize which is which but also makes for a nice aesthetic as well. However, I do feel like the empanadas were unfortunately lacking in the flavor department. Mostly I just felt overwhelmed by the cheese, and didn't really feel like there was much of a flavor profile. They would have been almost bland if not for the salt. That being said, the guy behind the counter was pretty friendly and helpful. The prices are pretty affordable, and There is a wide menu so it's possible that I just happened to pick the ones that are mediocre. About three months ago we came in and there was a strong sewage smell so we left. We came back in today craving the wondrul empenadas.... Unfortunately the sewage smell hit us upon walking in. This little shop is on the strip right off 59 at the Newcastle exit. It's after Weslayan on the feeder, before you hit Whataburger. I tried the shredded chicken savory (baked), the cheese and pineapple dessert (fried), the 3 cheese (baked) and sat to wait for my takeout order. They have some desserts in the glass you can choose from. And iced water during lunch. There were many visitors at lunchtime on a Wednesday. I was really surprised about that. It's a tiny place so plan to go early for a meal or order takeout to enjoy somewhere else more comfortable. They do have restrooms for the public. There were 10 tables inside, but they were really small/cosy metal tables, with red metal chairs. Everything inside is cute. The place was really hopping when I went (about 12:45 PM) and even though it was busy my order came out within 10 minutes. Almost every table was taken. And there was just one girl taking orders. Wait time to order wasn't too long. She was bilingual as well so there were at least 2 groups that did not order in English (which is pretty cool). I will go back to try different empanadas! Beautiful empanada that look almost like a cinnamon roll. I would try again. Spinach&Cheese: 3/5 Typical flavor as to be expected. Heavy spinach, balanced with some cheese - feta I'm guessing. Don't order if you don't love spinach :) Experience - the attendant was very flat affect. I got a sense that she felt as though it didn't matter if I had come or not come to her. Maybe she would have even preferred I not be. Restaurant was small - some patrons eating inside and outside. The restaurant is situated in a shopping center - easy to find. Not sure if I would be back. If I were craving the mushroom empanada maybe - if the service were warmer it would have been more likely. We decided to come here on a whim, and we were not let down. Parking was easy, and the place had a small and intimate ambiance to it. It's cute for low-key dates or a quick snack/meal with your friends. Service is fast-ish, and empanadas are served fresh and steaming hot. Be sure to eat slowly, because you will burn your mouth if you don't! That just goes to show how these are made to order, and you can definitely taste that! We ordered 6 savory empanadas and 1 dessert empanada. Here is my personal ranking of the ones I ordered: 1. Saltena: this was my favorite one. The pastry was crisp and flakey; there wasn't a spot on that thing that didn't crackle with a bite. You can really taste the spices come through to create a unique flavor that is amplified by the potatoes, which gives it more body. The beef also really shines through as well. 2. Onion and cheese: despite being vegetarian, this packs a very flavorful punch. Sometimes, vegetarian food is better than meaty alternatives, because it's better seasoned and made with more love since it doesn't have meat to help bolster its flavor. This is definitely the case here. It's something simple done RIGHT. Awesome cheese pull, and well-seasoned all throughout. 3. Beef: though this may seem similar to flavor profile of the saltena because of the beef, it's super different than egg adds a nice oomph to the flavor. It was a little denser and meat-forward. I also felt like it was more moist/saucy if that's your thing. 4. Shrimp: it came in a cute looking pastry design. Shrimp was juicy and not tough. It was lighter than the rest. It wasn't as heavy, and although its execution was excellent, I'm not sure about the inherent combination of shrimp and pastry. It was good, but since it was an uncut shrimp, there was a lot of negative spaces/air. I wasn't a fan of how that kinda hindered the structural integrity of the pastry. 5. Chicken and avocado: I felt like this was kind of basic. It was a little bit underseasoned, relying too heavily upon the inherent richness of the avocado. Yes, avocados are awesome, but it requires more seasonings to bring out the chicken flavor. Chicken was a little dry as well, but I've also never had moist shredded chicken in my life, so it's not a shot against this place. Overall, it was filling, but lacked flavor. 6. Sausage/chorizo: I felt like this was a tier below the above 5. There was too many empty space in the empanada as it was only a single slice of sausage. Meat-only fillings are great if they entirely fill up the filling. If not, I would've appreciated more body to it, some kind of starch/carb to add to the filling of the empanada. There are so many great ways to take this. I love the idea of chorizo, but this wasn't the way to go. The dessert empanada was very delicious. I didn't rank it above because it wasn't a savory food. I really enjoyed the warm Nutella with the fruits. The extremely crispy exterior create a fun textural contrast to the warm, molten-like filling, something I wasn't accustomed to but definitely enjoyed. The sauces were good; I recommend the jalapeño and the chimichurri. The yellow pepper one doesn't have much flavor. Overall, 3.5/5 stars! read more

I had the opportunity to visit this small quaint Argentina Café called The Empanada Factory. The place is tiny with a little more than a half a dozen seats and constant foot traffic. It's a great place for a family with a couple of kids. I placed my order with really no recommendations from the cashier although when I asked he did direct me to a choice between a fried empanada or a baked empanada. I was leaning to the baked before his suggestion and I am so glad I did. My order came out quickly (10 minutes) and was correct. I chose the chicken and avocado, the Saltena, and the spinach and onion. They were all made fresh and tasted delicious. It comes with a sauce, but I didn't need it. They were great just the way they were. And they're a nice size. I've been to some locations in Houston and the empanadas are tiny. These are medium, but a good size. I have tried all of their vegetarians offerings here. Most are baked although you can get the curry vegetable fried like a dumpling. Averaging around 3 dollars a piece, they are pricey for value but hey we're near West U/Greenway. I like that they do shape the empanadas differently depending on the filling so that they are discernable and you're not left guessing what's inside once you've had one. My favourite ones were the spinach & cheese and the mushrooms. It's counter service and not much seating but you want to eat it there or in the car while the crust is warm and crispy for the most part. Otherwise, you'll need to use the toaster oven. read more

For fast food, this is a decent sandwich and empanada place. They have coffee, soda, and some desserts. No wifi. They do have bathrooms. It's a clean place with a small amount of seating indoor and outdoor. The sandwiches were pretty average but I enjoyed the empanada.
