HRW 4.4 The service was great. The appetizers were nice. We had the empanadas, ceviche, and salad. No complaints about these. They bring out chips which were good. It's kind of interesting that the chip basket has 1 piece of bread which is kind of odd for a party of 4. The entrees were for the most part very good. The tenderloin was supposed to be cooked medium rare but was cooked more to medium well but since the meat is a tender cut, my mom didn't mind it. It had a nice flavor from the grill. My SO got the NY strip which was also overcooked but was still very tasty. My dad got the lamb and it was super tender. The broth was salty but because the meat is dense he enjoyed it. The polenta was a good accompaniment to the lamb. I ordered the wagyu which was super tender but way too salty. All my dining companions also agreed it was very salty. I think because the meat kind of shreds the broth was able to penetrate the meat more than the lamb. The kind waiter asked to replace my dish and so I ordered the NY strip which was cooked perfectly. I loved the customer service and how even though i felt bad about thinking the dish was too salty and I was going to just power through it, the waiter said he'd hate for me to not like the food. The staff was attentive throughout our visit, making sure our drinks stayed filled and the table remained clean. They even had a cute little photo backdrop set up for guests, which was a nice touch for Mother's Day. The food was buffet-style with a large variety of options. There were several protein choices including beef, chicken, pork, and seafood, all of which were well seasoned and cooked nicely. They also offered a variety of sauces to pair with the different proteins. The buffet was constantly being replenished, so everything stayed fresh and hot. I have passed by Sal y Pimienta my whole life since I grew up in this area and this place has been here for as long as I can remember. One day my family and I finally decided to try it. We started with the Caesar salad, empanadas, the mango salad, and ceviche. The Caesar salad was honestly amazing and ended up being the highlight of the night. The ceviche was okay. The mango salad was literally just shaved mango stacked into a tower with sauce on top, which was a little disappointing and kind of felt like the start of things going downhill, but I brushed it off. We like ordering a lot of appetizers and then sharing a main at the end, so for the main we ordered picanha and another steak with a side of potatoes to share. When the steaks came out and we cut into them, they were both basically raw. We asked for medium and one of them was definitely on the rare side, so rare that we had to send it back. They recooked it, but even then it was still chewy and not enjoyable. We really tried to give it a fair shot and ordered a good variety of plates to understand the restaurant better, but even with that it just did not work out for us flavor-wise. Because I have seen this restaurant for so many years and it is still open in a big area like CityCentre, I had high hopes and really wanted to like it. That is why I left feeling disappointed. The surprising part is that my favorite dish ended up being the Caesar salad, even though it is not what the restaurant is known for. I never like speaking down on places and this is just my opinion, but the food did not live up to the expectations I had. The one thing I will give credit for is the staff. They were very kind and helpful. One of the hosts even brought out an iPad, showed us pictures, and went through the menu with us. I wish I got his name because he was great. I am not sure if I would return. The service was good and the ambiance is nice, but the food just fell short for me. HRW review: This place was a surprise pick by my friend. The chimichurri and snacks you begin with was so good! i had a shrimp and wagyu ground beef empanada. I preferred the shrimp over the other but the creamy avocado salsa was a great pairing with both as well. i later had a NY strip with potatoes and vegetables. You know the potatoes were fresh because there were a few chopped potatoes in it. my steak was under and then reheated and it was over but the seasoning and char initially were really good. Service was good. The empanadas were also good I had the chicken and the waygu. The chicken was actually more flavorful than the chicken. The tenderloin was amazing. The issue was the mashed potatoes. While these were fresh made, they were served cold. The plate gave the tenderloin was made on site but the potatoes had been waiting on the plate for 45 mins before it was served to me. The cuatro leches was not my speed. Someone else who likes caramels infused in their cake might like it. The whipped topping was also Super THICK. Ambiance was nice and for me to visit during the week, it was quite packed. Uruguayan steak house in City Center. They have a few private rooms and then the basic open floor plan (a little loud in there) with tables and a bar. Staff are all friendly and seem to know their stuff. I was there for a work dinner and we shared the: Empanadas (beef and chicken) which was delicious and cut in half for easier sharing, pork lollipops (yum), and the calimari which was just okay to me. They also give a chip/bread basket out. For my main I had the asada which came with potato mix. The steak was 10 oz, cooked perfectly medium rare and the sweet potatoes in the mix were fire! We both ordered the zucchini crusted pizza that was reconstructed into pure deliciousness. Made with zucchini, EVOO,basil, thyme , egg , mozzarella, and parmesan cheese set on top of greens and decorated with sliced thin radishes looked more like art than a meal. It was so delicious. I would certainly return for that 1st course. Our 2nd course was the Pollo a la Parilla.All natural chicken breat served with a light delicately spiced quinoa salad. The chicken came out perfectly tender from the wood burning stove and was a large 2 piece meal that will be calling us back to dine again.Sooo good!!! The ambiance inside was warm and inviting. It is set close to other big chain restaurants that are not very intimate and often too noisy to talk. I felt very welcome and taken care of in this family owned establishment. Located in Memorial City town center next to North Italian and Brazilian steakhouse. You can park for free in one of the garages, or if you want to pay, there is street parking with parking meters. We got lunch here during the week. The interior is lively and they are extremely well staffed since their kitchen is in full view of the dining area. I'd say at least 10 staff between servers and the guys cooking. There's what looks like a decently sized wine collection towards the back and plenty of seating room. We opted to get the 3 course lunch special and also split a Verde pizza for the table. For the three course, I got the ceviche (flounder), picanha, and the arroz con leche (rice pudding). There's a ton of items on the menu and it was a bit hard to choose. There's the South American fare and some Italian stuff on there too for some reason. We focused on the more South American fare. The pizza was honestly a bit of a letdown; the pizza sauce wasn't the best, the crust was soggy in the middle, and the flavor combination of the toppings were a bit mediocre. It's a 2.5/5 for me. On the other hand, the ceviche had solid flavor and was a hit. Solid 4/5. The picanha was cooked well and a nice medium rare +. It was well seasoned and it came with a bed of rice and beans. The beans were extremely salty for some reason, which was a let down because the rest of the dish was executed well. The rice pudding was also not bad; should've definitely tried the flan or crème brûlée next time though. All in all, I'm excited to go again and try some other stuff on their menu. The food however is awful no way to sugar coat it. Tough meats, bland sides , and undercooked pasta just ruin anything positive about this place. I came here for Houston restaurant week and was not disappointed! With 4 dishes, this place is hard to beat for $55. I started with the ceviche, which was refreshing and chock full of seafood, greens, and avocado. I also tried my friend's calamari, which was tasty and a great balance between the outer crust and the squid itself, meaning that compared to other calamaries, the squid was actually detectable. The soup of the day was lobster bisque, which was creamy, rich, and filling. For the entree, I ordered the monkfish with broccolini and an unexpectedly delightful guava sauce. I had never had monkfish, but appreciated the subtle taste and pairing of the vibrant guava. My friend's osso buco and polenta was also yummy, and a surprisingly large portion to boot. Finally - dessert! I ordered the chaja dessert which was cold and refreshing, a mix of a cake with meringue and peaches. The chocolate cake was also super tasty, rich without being overpoweringly sweet, and a generous portion. I ordered the Pizza Silvestre - Wild mushrooms (trumpeter & porcini) topped with mild provolone, mozzarella, tomato sauce, artichokes, sun-dried tomatoes, red peppers all in escabeche. I could swear it had a Truffle oil drizzle and paired well with the Profecia Cabernet (Uruguay) I ordered the Seafood Salad to go. It was deceiving in the container before I put a fork in.
