If you decide to go with the Energy House in Gilroy, do NOT let Kim Passwaiter handle your needs! I started the process of getting a new door and a new gas log set for my fireplace in July. I asked Kim a few basic questions, which he could not answer because he was dealing with family issues. I do understand that if a family member gets sick, that's a top priority for anyone -- but Kim didn't DELEGATE the responsibility for my account to anyone. He just SAT ON IT for serveral months. Finally, in DECEMBER -- five months after I got the ball rolling -- he took a down payment for half the value of the total work (door and log set), and put in the order to get the door made. (He said these doors required custom measurements -- measurements he'd made at my house back in August -- which had to be submitted to the door manufacturers, along with the choices of glass, door style, handles, etc..) The door arrived the following February. Caesar brought the door and log set to my house to install them in a timely manner. The log set was installed without a hitch, but lo and behold, Kim's custom measurements that he'd made for my door were HALF AN INCH TOO BIG in both directions. The custom-fit door didn't fit! No details were given as to what should happen next. I waited for two weeks without hearing a peep out of them. I wondered if they'd gone out of business. Finally, after some prodding, they got back to me and told me that the door only needed a little bit of material removed from one flange in order to fit, and that they could come by and re-attempt the install in a few days. In early March -- nearly eight months after getting the ball rolling -- my gas-burning fireplace was FINALLY complete with its door. The fireplace looks nice and operates well, so I have no complaints about the workmanship, but the delays getting there were absolutely ridiculous. read more

We needed a gas fireplace insert to help heat the living area of our large home with high ceilings. The Energy House came out to assess the huge stone fireplace and determine how to the insert into the existing stone fireplace. Later on, when Rafa came out to install the insert, it turned out the model I had selected did not provide a wide opening for the blower to expel the warm air. I explained that I wanted the unit to help heat the living room so Rafa recommended another style. The alternate style did not come in the bronze color I had selected but Rafa went back to the shop, painted the new style a beautiful bronze and then came back to install the new insert. This version has a wide opening at the top and easily allows the air to come through and fill the room with warmth. I am a general contractor that has worked with many fireplace company's and been in business for over a decade. The Energy House offers the worst service & follow through of any company of any type that I have ever worked with. From a sales staff that expects you to do their job for them and offers minimal guidance to an installation department that does not replace parts they break. I have now been waiting for them to finish their install for 6 month. My homeowners have been living in their home with a hole where the fireplace should be for 2 months. Today they were suppose to come clean it up an make it look complete while we continue to wait for the parts the should have ordered 6 months ago. Guess what.... they did not follow through on that!!! Don't use this company!!! They don't offer any pride in their service or follow through. read more

The team at The Energy House made the upgrade as painless as possible. Very professional, very knowledgeable staff. John was a great help in getting our fireplace selected and Caesar did a fantastic job of installation, from fixing up our brick surround, so installing the pipes inside our extended chimney and arranging for the chase pan to be manufactured and installed. We went into the Energy House in Gilroy for a wood burning stove, as we were walking in a "gentlemen" was walking out and followed us back in explaining that he was on his way to lunch but he would help us. Ralph seemed annoyed that we had kept him from his burger and fries and was aggitated the whole time we were there. Being that this is a 7-8K purchase with install, we were being peticular with the size etc to make sure we made the right purchase. Ralph, who I suspect is related to someone there in some way or he wouldn't have his job, didn't want to be bothered with questions and just kept emailing me a contract to sign. I thought, ok maybe this is a one off, so I called and tried to deal with another salesmen at a different location. Once they heard I had talked to Ralph, they pushed me back to him. I called the other store again stating that I DID NOT want to work with Ralph and I was told the manager would get back to me. She did and after stating she would look into it......I heard nothing. The customer service at EH SUCKS and we HAPPILY bought a wood burning stove at another company for a better price that doesn't have cry babies for salesmen. read more

If you want absolutely horrible service and people who have no idea about gas fire places, inserts, and doors then this is the place to go. The lady at the front is spacey and does not understand her products, the bigger gentleman is rude as hell and will tell you that when they order parts that they usually come in wrong...like that's normal, and if you actually do make a purchase, you too will find that the parts do come in wrong. Even when the installer came out he was frustrated with how unorganized the front office of his company was. He was the most knowledgeable. This place seems extremely unorganized and not equipped to sell you the items they are supposed to be professionals on. I would go to EmberWest Fireplace instead. I don't even want to give one star!! I wish I would have seen these reviews before I made a HUGE mistake with purchasing our gas insert from this company. The sales rep was nice but gave inaccurate information regarding the correct insert that we needed which resulted in additional costs on our end when we were told we needed a custom panel. Then, measurements were taken incorrectly regarding the panel that we were originally told we didn't need so even more costs were added to our bill. Cindy, from the scheduling department is extremely rude and never returned calls. I had to call several times to get ahold of her but then in her notes she wrote that she made numerous attempts to get a hold of us. I had to take time off work to get our insert installed then the morning of our install she called and cancelled. Notes were taken inaccurately and there was no information taken from my end. When I tried to discuss the issues I was treated so rudely. I was then transferred to Allen, who is supposedly the owner of the company and was treated even worse! I have never experienced just disrespect and unprofessionalism from a company before!! I highly DO NOT recommend this company!! read more

Remodeled our house and wanted to get a direct vent gas fireplace to replace the woodburning one we tore down. Tried one local fireplace store in Santa Clara and it was a miss. Prices were high and you had to sit down one on one with the salesperson and go through this whole ordeal. So then our contractor suggested the Energy House in Gilroy. Drove down and they had a small showroom but at the time they were going to move to a bigger space. The salesperson answered our questions, gave us some recommendations and brochures, and we ultimately bought from them. I was just there and spent 20mins walking in a circle in the showroom. Pushed the for service doorbell 3 times and open and closed the door 4 times. Yelled out twice if any one was there. Raphael, the salesman at the Gilroy location, was excellent. He explained all the different models and did an extra search for discounts. When I offered to pay in full he said he wanted to make sure the unit would work in my home and didn't want me to get stuck with a restocking fee. The next day he came to my home to check the fireplace. When the unit came it they called to set up a time. Cesar...an installer who has been with the company 15 years, did extensive work to install my fireplace. When he was finished he went through the entire unit with me, how it worked, how to use the remote and things to watch out for. He also gave me his cell phone if I have any problems. This company is exceptional! I also baulked at how expensive the units are but when I saw what goes into the installation I now realize that it's worth every penny. read more
