Oof this escape room location was curated by a national treasurer lover. Hollywood quality sets with extremely challenging clues. Most of the clues required teamwork to complete and makes it a great team building experience. Can't really say anything negative except it'd be nice to have the Photo Booth option for groups after escaping as you would in other escape rooms on the mainland. This was my first time at The Escape Game. It is nestled inside of Ala Moana so it definitely is possible to get lost. HOWEVER, the staff here were SO accommodating, sweet, patient, and professional! They helped guide us right to them and greeted us warmly. I originally had a reservation for 4 kids but one fell sick and couldn't come. They were so thoughtful that they gave him a Get Well Card and a discount coupon for whenever he can come. I also told them it was 2 of the kids bday and they remembered and gave them a birthday coupon for a free item! Talk about above and beyond!! Now on to the game! We did "The Heist", which was an 8/10 on the difficulty scale. Since we were missing a player I got to play with them (this was my first escape room too!). We had SO much fun! I spent my birthday night here. My party had an amazing time! We love doing escape rooms on vacation. The staff was friendly and allowed us to switch our game last minute as another group suggested Gold Rush was best and it was. Gold Rush has probably been the most interactive escape room I have ever done. I love this place so much! The customer service is always top tier 10/10. If something goes wrong, the game master will try their best to fix it or make it up to you. It is kind of expensive (42.99 a person) but they do offer kamaaina (if you live in Hawaii) and military discounts. They also do run promotions sometimes on weekdays where it's 30% off before a certain time during the day. The rooms are very immersive and you get really into it. You get unlimited clues (which not all escape game places do), and an hour for each room. I've done all 7 rooms (multiple times) and I keep coming back for more. If you like puzzles and building teamwork with your friends I definitely recommend this place. It's playtime for adults, what more could you want? I recommend booking far in advance, or late at night on weekends because there is a chance you might be put with strangers. They do get pretty busy (it's always popping.) read more

We had so much fun! Came here in June with 10 kids (ages between 5 to 10 years old) and they had a load of fun in the "Playground" room. Felt like I was back in a real school playground. Plus surrounded with a bunch of kids going wild it was real life. We managed to escape with 20 seconds left on the clock. Thanks to the unlimited help button or I would've been stuck with the kids. The kids all wanted to come back again. They should with their own family next time. =) Came back again with friends in July and tried the "Special Ops" room this time. Really felt like I was part of the story trying to save the world, the props and experiences provided are so amazing. We managed to escaped within half hour. And the staff are very friendly. The entire time the staff did not tell us particular KEY clues were missing and sabotaged our game. This should've been a refund. It's like playing for a round of golf and the course never cutting out a hole on the green so you spend your entire time reaching for a "end game" that has been rigged for you to come back and spend again to solve the puzzle. We told the owner/ manager and he shrugged his shoulders- visibly did not care. Are you kidding Sir, if I wasn't in a rush to leave I would've complained to the BBB as this is unfair business practices. Your staff is first watching from a CCTV and did not flag an issue, and second you have a staff to do a QC check BEFORE the game. What a scam and low life management morales to not immediately offer a voucher for another game -- it's an inside job and you aren't fooling anyone! It's a racket! Aloha!! read more

The Escape Game Honolulu is a great activity for couples, groups of friends, and family. My spouse and I needed a break from Waikiki so we caught a ride to the Ala Moana Centre early in the morning (not realizing) before most of the shops opened and ended up booking a last minute room with Escape Game when we got there. They were still setting things up when we arrived (again very last minute reservation) but they were ready after a few minutes when our room was supposed to start. Staff was great; greeted us, offered a bathroom break, made sure we were ready, and if we had any questions etc. They let us know that we could get unlimited clues if needed, although we are competitive so we try to not use any if we could. We did the Depths room which is themed as a submarine exploration to find hidden research which we hadn't seen as a theme before. It was a great room with a variety of puzzles. Our game master was awesome and gave the perfect clues or hints when we asked or if they noticed we had it right but just entered it wrong. We ended up escaping with a little over 10 minutes to spare using 2 clues and 3 hints. We had such a great time that we opted to sign up for another room after grabbing a bite to eat. They even had a deal for us to save on a second room (who doesn't love to save money?). The second room we did was the Gold Rush which was another theme we hadn't seen before (can't believe that since we are from the CA Bay Area and have played the most rooms in CA). This was another great room, with different types of Puzzles so it was engaging and not like a repeat of last one. We were able to escape with about 13 minutes left and only used 2 hints, although I think we'd have a hard time getting past a riddle without their hint. Both rooms were fantastic and we'd recommend The Escape Game Honolulu to anyone and everyone we know that visits. Thank you again from a great experience! read more

We did the Playground which was really fun and brought back our inner childhood. It was the easiest room (6/10 difficulty) so all the puzzles were pretty straightforward. It's definitely a fun room you could bring your kids to ask they'd have a ton of fun. Our guide Jesse was also very helpful and welcoming! I absolutely love escape rooms. I tried almost every escape rooms Oahu have to offer. Definitely a different experience to try out with a group of friends or family that are both mentally challenging and physically fun. The Escape Game is a franchise company that opened 28 locations across the US. They were offering free preview days on December 8 and 9 and I was lucky enough to try the Prison Break and Gold Rush rooms with two different group of friends. I also booked the Special Ops rooms with my cousins to try out since they were visiting from the mainland. The Escape Game is located in Ala Moana on the second level near Target where J Crews used to be. The place was actually pretty huge in the inside. They were actually pretty open about taking photos and videos and encouraged us to do so when we were in the escape rooms. Just don't take photos or videos of the clues or answers because of spoilers. They also showed a 360 degree view of each rooms on their website but of course not "all" of the rooms were shown. Another thing that was different from other escape rooms were that they offer unlimited clues. Which was very convenient but my group want to try to use as few as possible unless we are really stuck. The Prison Break room was the first one I did for this company. It was their hardest level room. My friend and I teamed up with 2 other strangers that joined for that time and date. We actually work well together and they were super nice. The Prison Break, you started off into 2 separate rooms and had to work together to get out. It was indeed hard. The rooms were actually huge and one of the biggest escape rooms we had experienced. Without spoiling too much, we used about 7 hints in order to escape with 4 minutes to spare. Our game master, Liz, was super friendly and enthusiastic. Her hints were super helpful leading us without actually giving us the answers. The next day after Prison Break. I tried out Gold Rush with 2 other friends. We were also teamed up with 2 other strangers for this room too. They were also very good at escape rooms and we worked well as a group. The Gold Rush room was very atmospheric. The room was actually really fun. It was easier than Prison Break were we escaped in 45 minutes using just 2 hints. Our game master, Pono, was also a great guide. He was super friendly and showed us other rooms to check out and explain each theme and story. The latest room I tried over the holidays was the Special Ops room. My cousins, who were escape rooms fanatic, were visiting and I recommended this place for us to try out together. My cousins were serious about escape rooms and want to try escaping without any help from the game master or using the hints. We were lucky that we get this room to ourselves. The Special Ops room was also atmospheric but it also seem smaller than the last two rooms I did. The video introductions were longer than we thought and it did took up some of our time off. We also felt the room was a little disjointed because of their "theme"/"story" and it was very sudden transition. Regardless we escaped in 50 minutes using 1 hint which my cousin regretted using lol. Our game master, Eve, was also friendly. He wasn't hands-on as we requested but his hint for the last clue was super helpful. Overall, personally I felt that this was one of the best escape rooms I've tried. The rooms were very clean, detailed, and atmospheric. We were super into the design, props, and sounds that goes along with the rooms. The puzzles were challenging and fun. It was very interactive, hands-on, and immersive. We enjoyed the experience. The issue I had was that each rooms beside the Playground hold up to 8 people. Therefore if we booked on a certain time/date, we may have to share the room with another group that booked on that same time/date. You can book for a private room but had to buy out all the other slots with a discounted price of 50%. This place is pricier compared to other escape room places but considering the room designs and experience, it was worth it. The staffs were super friendly and passionate about their job. Definitely I will be back to try out the rest of their rooms and future rooms. read more

We had so much fun doing this escape room! The experience was way more relaxed then the one we did at Pearlridge. You aren't actually locked in the room and can leave at anytime to take a phone call, use the restroom, etc. You also get unlimited clues!! Our game guide Maddy was awesome! This was the easiest experience but didn't feel super easy to do in my opinion. We had 9 min & 43 seconds to spare. I'm new to escape rooms and I loved how clean the rooms were. They smelt clean too and didn't feel damp like the Pearlridge one the staff was really friendly and very knowledgeable about the games. Be ready to be transported to another place and have fun. You and your team work together to find clues and solve puzzles and riddles to complete a mission. Like other escape rooms, you are given 60 minutes to complete your mission and have a game master to assist. The difference at The Escape Game Honolulu is that they give you unlimited hints. Personally, I like to do these with minimal hints, so we choose to use it sparingly. I do love that The Escape Game Honolulu also allows for larger group sizes (up to 8 to 12 people). My friends and I (total of 8) successfully completed the Depths room with 8:38 minutes to spare and only asked for 3 hints. After, our game master gave us a sneak peek into another room. This is a really fun and challenging escape room that is in a convenient location. It's located near Bare Minerals in Ala Moana. Parking is relatively early. I got to try out the Playground which was supposed to be their easiest room but we only had 10 minutes to spare.Despite being the easiest room, I recommend having 8-10 people to help you with their many puzzles. Team work is dream work to pass. You get their standard 60 minutes with 3 tips. After you finish, you can visit their gift shop for some goodies. I've been to this escape room twice for their Market and playground theme. They are located near target on the 2nd floor. The staff is very helpful and explained the rules before we got started. I highly recommend booking it in advance to save some time and filling out the waiver before you arrive. You can use the clue button as much as possible, but it must be the majority of the group to vote to get the hint. If you get stuck, they also give hints on the screen to help you get on the right track. Although I may not be the best problem solver, and the games can be pricey, it would be good to try it at least once. read more

The Escape Game easily has the best escape rooms in Hawaii right now. The rooms are fully decorated but unrelated elements become obvious quickly. The puzzles are thoughtfully designed with high quality production values. Most puzzles are physical puzzles instead of the overused drawer full of combination locks. The story elements are rich with multiple videos throughout the room. Nothing was broken or malfunctioning. Design mistakes are small such as a color-only puzzle (colorblind inaccessible). Some possible wrong solutions clearly disqualify themselves upon trial, which is nice. Pacing is good as well, as a four person team with experience, we finished one 8/10 difficulty room with 9 minutes left. The small features are thoughtful as well, such as a bag drop off spot, and a dedicated hint button instead of waving your hands at a camera. If you are an escape room enthusiast, you will definitely be discussing all the little details after. read more

I had a chance to attend a preview day offered earlier this week and did prison break. I was worried because it was 9/10 difficulty and because we are placed in a group with others we don't know- found out that 5 of the 7 players had never completed an escape room before. But we got out with 6 minutes remaining! The rooms were very elaborate and not cheaply made. It truly is immersive. I did feel like I was in prison, as you are locked in and have to make your way out. This game was harder to escape than others I have tried because if you drop a key or miss getting something you will basically not escape. I like that there are no limit in clues. I have tried their Market Ops/Heist in another location and it was excellent. Again, the setting is very professional and not cheaply made. I hope to finish the rest. I am not sure if they sanitize the rooms after each play. I do appreciate there is some grace period for those running late. read more
