    Escape room!
    Nicole V.

The time traveler room was awesome! Very intricate hints and displays, also our game Zar Luke was great with guiding us when we couldn't figure out ONE PART! Which was upsetting that we needed it because we're super competitive LOL.

Located near Target, we celebrated a family member's birthday here with not one but TWO escape rooms. Surprisingly, photos are allowed, but I was too involved with trying to escape that I did not take any photos. Inside the rooms, there were clever clues to solve even one involving a BB gun to shoot targets to get clues when the target fell! Of course we had to try one of the hardest rooms, "Prison Break" which we almost didn't escape, but our host was great at helping us solve the puzzles. After our first game was over, our host offered a 20% discount on our next room which we took him up on. As it turns out, Groupons offers a discount on Monday - Thursday.....next time.

Watch your pants! On 6/28, my friend (an employee at another location) and I attended the 11:00 p.m. Playground game. After we completed the puzzle to unlock the slide, I went down first, and the slide immediately ripped my jeans wide open. My friend followed right behind me, and her soft cotton pants snagged too. Neither of us had buttons, jewelry, or anything else on the back of our clothing that could have caused that. The game guide offered that we could leave the game only after hearing me say I just wanted to leave. But did not speaker in for any assistance. While my friend finished the game, I was stuck standing in a dark corner with the back of my jeans torn open. I was incredibly uncomfortable and did not know what to do. When we finished, The game guide only offered an apology and when we asked if this had happened before, he casually said, "Yes, a few times." This was not the souvenir we had asked for. Thankfully we had already paid for t-shirts so at least I had something to cover the gaping hole in the back of my jeans. I understand the store was closing for the night, but it was a very uncomfortable experience. Management needs to take action for staff training on sensitivity. And franchise owners need to put money into equipment repairs, as it could have dug into our skin. We were really disappointed, especially since we are visiting from out of state.

I love the whole experience of it and as someone who is confidently competitive, this more than happily scratches the itch and allows me (and my friends) to go crazy and get a little unhinged. My biggest advice is that your experience is what you make of it so whether you are a large group and you adopt a couple in or a couple who needs to get adopted in, this is a great opportunity to meet new people and just have fun. The host will do their best to run the show smoothly and fun, but at the end of the day you can really determine your fun, and let me tell you, it's also not that hard. This is one of my favorite activities to do ever since it came to Oahu because of the variety depending on who you bring or the games you play. I also love that it's fun for all ages and for anyone's level of common/uncommon knowledge. It's one of the most unique activities on Oahu (IMO) and it's so worth more than one visit.

I honestly thought this was going to be mediocre or somewhat boring and for only kids, but boooooy was I wrong. We did a family feud-like game show amongst my friends who wanted to split the teams up to mens vs women. I'm sure they regretted it because the men destroyed them lol. Overall, great host and setup to make it actually feel like you're at an actual game show. There were a ton of different game challenges which allowed different people to engage. I would've loved to try their escape room too, but we didn't have time for that. The staff were all friendly and welcoming. You ever feel so angry, you want to scream and break sh*t without someone calling the cops? (SLEDGEHAMMER that plate!). (All of this is being done legally & safely, of course, with safety suits and helmets/gloves, if you decide to drop some $$ and spend some time here.) There is a good selection of shattery breakables to choose. We were given 45 minutes but the two of us finished in about 20 (I guess we had a lot to unleash!). It gets hot in the helmet/suit, especially when you're expelling all that rage, so expect a good workout (cathartic even!) Call/check out their site for discounts/promos (including Kama'aina). Parking: lots of garage parking around the Ward/Kaka'ako area, if you don't mind a short warmup walk over.

Tried Out a Rage Room for the First Time - Totally Worth It!…read more I've been hearing about this rage room for a while and finally decided to check it out. I called ahead to ask about any discounts for locals or birthdays, and they told me they do offer a local discount with valid ID -- nice little bonus! They also said they had availability that day, so I figured, why not? The whole experience was super satisfying. Ever feel like breaking something at work but don't want to get fired? Break n Anger is the place to let that urge out safely and legally. Here's how it works: You get to choose 2 items from the top shelf and 5 items each from shelves 2, 3, and 4 -- so about 17 items total to smash. After signing the waivers, you suit up in a jumpsuit, gloves, and a helmet. They offer earplugs too, but I skipped those -- the sound of breaking stuff is half the fun. Honestly, the time flew by -- I went all in for 10 minutes and it felt like seconds. I probably should've paced myself, but I really wanted to let the rage out. No regrets though -- it was super fun, and I can totally see this being a great team-building activity. I'm definitely planning to go back and try the premium items next time!

She loves the idea of escape rooms, but panics when we're in them LOL! I scoured the internet for something we haven't done before and all the escape rooms were either too pricey, wouldn't explain how to escape when we inevitably didn't breakout, or didn't have private escape rooms. Then Google suggested Scaventours which in all my days of searching never appeared! Scaventours is on the ground floor of Marriot Waikiki. Opposite side of the hotel from the Valet. The side with the tour bus pickup. The sign says they're open daily from 9-7 I believe, but you can look up the games and book online. We booked our game morning of and all went well. There's no parking, so we parked at the Zoo like they suggested. We parked at the back half of the zoo (Mauka side) and just followed that road straight pass Denny's. That path lead us straight to the correct hotel entrance to find Scaventours easily. ALSO, the Zoo Parking wasn't taking debit cards and my husband only had a $10. He paid for 2 hours but the machine didn't give change so we got ripped. Be aware of that when parking there. After reading up on the games, I decided we would do Kanaloa's Curse. A scavenger hunt that stayed INSIDE the hotel with various puzzles fit for ages 6-11 even though some of them had me stumped. I appreciate that the game isn't timed and that there was an option to stay inside the hotel because I'm not trying to take my 7yo scavenger hunting on the streets of Waiks. It was super reasonably priced at $23 for my husband and I and $14 for my daughter. We were given the map and a clipboard of puzzles, complimentary pens and candy and we were off. The hunt took us through the ground floor of the hotel finding different things and solving puzzles. It took us just about an hour with my 7yo finding everything and doing every puzzle, so it was PERFECT for her!! At the end, we returned to the store, unlocked the treasure, she got some prizes, and we took photos with the mascot raccoon statue. She was immediately begging to do the rest of the hunts. My company hired Treasure Hunts Hawaii (THH) for roughly a 2-hour treasure hunt. Based on Yelp…read morereviews, THH seemed like a good choice and a lot of the employees were looking forward to participating in the hunt. Keep in mind, the company I work at has a little less than 60 people coming to this activity held at a beach park. THH was pricey, so we had high expectations. I know, for me, I thought it would be a hunt filled with tough clues (the type that can really stump you), running around with a sense or urgency, different paths for the different groups, and worth the amount we spent. The day of the hunt came and everyone was super excited to see what we would end up doing. There were two people from THH that set up the area with clues and would give us instructions on the actual hunt. It may be due to my job, but I wish they gave us the instructions BEFORE the hunt to prepare and we could become familiar with the instructions without worrying about being behind other groups because we were busy reading the rules of the game. Anyway, I remember distinctly that we were told that groups were given different clues and, thus, different paths, since we had more than ten groups participating. There were three parts to the hunt - the actual treasure hunt, scavenger hunt, and trivia. The hunt was fun to do, but the hunt did not meet expectations and I felt that we could have done the hunt ourselves. The reasons for the low review: - all the groups had the same clues, so we had the same path. Read: it could have been follow the leader - one group figures out the path/clues and everyone else follows. - the clues weren't that difficult to decipher - one clue was wrong (quick math question - what is 3 to the power of 0...it's not 0) - the scavenger hunt could have been explained a bit more or to be consistent with applying the rules. For example, we were asked to bring a rainbow. Keep in mind, unless it is stated, it cannot be a picture or video. I found out that points were given for a picture of a rainbow. Overall, the one star is because the company's services were expensive and that set a level of expectation that they didn't meet.

My company recently used Treasure Hunts Hawaii to plan and coordinate a team building…read morescavenger/trasure hunt. There were appx 60 of us at Magic Island Beach Park. Two individuals from THH came to start the hunt. The hunt consisted of a trivia portion, scavenger hunt and the actual hunt. They were not the best communicators and many of the teams were unsure as how to proceed; it was kinda like here are the clues and here is the trivia sheet...go and do it. They suggested that a good strategy would be to split up.....I thought this was supposed to be team building. For the most part the trivia was pretty easy as you could use your phone, etc and seemed to just be a pointless time filler. The scavenger hunt was mediocre at best.. There were also loopholes ie you could just go and buy many of the items on the list...stickers/clothing items etc. The treasure hunt was also nothing special. Most of the clues/items were just spread out over a large distance. If it was in a smaller area all the teams would have probably finished in 10 minutes. Most of them involved you solving some type of basic riddle etc for a clue then walking to the next area. Overall, after reading the positive reviews on Yelp, myself, along with the many of the participants (we took a survey) were disappointed with the overall experience. Honestly, using google and some common sense most anyone could have done what THH did and for much less money...our fee came out to over $2,100 for 2 hours of 'fun'!!!!! -- that didn't even include the cost for prizes for the wining teams etc. all of which we had to provide ourselves. If you are looking for a good group/business activity I suggest you look elsewhere.
