This place is close to my heart. I came here for my first date with my now husband in 2013. It is one of my favorite places to be. The food is absolutely outstanding. Just. Ugh. So good. I will say ONE THING. The underground bar needs a sign that says "seat yourself and order at the kitchen" or something. As I sat eating I saw many people come in and stand at the door waiting to be seated. I also saw several employees walk by looking at these people and not say anything to educate them on "how it works". The bartender and sound guy sat together in a next to empty room and looked at the people standing but didn't say anything to them. The Falcon has been described as a Village Vanguard of sorts and yes I would agree, but that's only one way to see this multi fascinated gem. Imagine a real Beer Garden that over looks a natural waterfalls, a funky music museum, A NY style bar (The underground) and a main floor music cathedral-with independent music venues going on simultaneously, housed under one enormous roof. I just can't get it all down in this one review! I request that you immediately go to Falcon's website- please google "The Falcon Marlboro NY" because I truly don't know where to begin! I wanted to start with having a beer, watching the waterfalls while eating plates of home made comfort foods like fried chicken and biscuits, luscious burgers, Mac n Cheese, then meander to the Underground bar room and music museum, reminiscent of those long faded record shops of the late 60's and 70's -loaded with posters and all things cool in Rock, Jazz, Blues, Soul, and Funk, offering a completely different music venue than the impressive upstairs-I like to call a Woodstock cathedral-for the worship of A list musicians worldwide. I almost left out the great beer selection, and friendly staff - if you are a little lost with all the offerings mentioned-I was too, even after I read the comprehensive website. It's hard to fathom this place actually exists at all. I would sum up the Falcon as a type of Hippie Wonderland. The non commercial version of the House of Blues, minus the Disney crowd, although kid friendly certainly for brunch or early dinner, it's open to all. The Falcon is the kind of place that finds you- if you seek you shall find in a rather random place.... but isn't that always the case. I was lucky enough to catch the famous Bernard Purdy, drummer for James Brown, Aretha, Steely Dan, I can go on all night -but if I need to tell you, this may not be a good place for you. Now for a little history ... the genius behind this place is Mr. Tony Falco, also known as the Patron Saint of Musicians because he actually was one. The well balanced sound system, and music equipment provided for traveling bands is as legendary as Tony Falco's generosity. Get this -you pay for the music by suggested donation boxes on each floor-cool or crazy ? But you will gladly donate, because it's a happening, a unique experience that you simply can't pin a price to. Tony Falco, a dreamer living the dream and sharing his love of music with all of us. Note, I came here for a birthday party, so I did not choose to come to this restaurant, but this is certainly the last time that I will be visiting. We came to celebrate my mother and my sister's birthdays for brunch. They had some god-awful LOUD gospel music playing, so loud that I couldn't hear the person across from me, and I am convinced that I received hearing loss as a result from coming here. I understand having loud music for dinner/drinks but having it for brunch is in poor taste. I was also squished next to some guy who was videoing the band in question, so I couldn't even move. Amazing music and amazing food. I was there to hear the wonderful Julian Lage Group and was pleasantly surprised by the food. I liked that they have New York brews on the menu. I enjoyed it very much. They have live music 3 to 4 nights a week and love that some of the shows have opening acts that feature younger or less known musicians. Went their w a friend for the first time last night.. much older crowd than expected.. unclear what the situation is there w long tables.. eventually we sat ourselves down.. we were looking for dinner and drinks but no waitress ever came no menus and the place reeked of mothballs to the point it was nauseating.. after about 25 mins of chatting and looking around w no service we left out the back.. the back terrace is very nice and nice waterfall but nothing else good I can say.. neither of us will be back there again.. we went and had a nice sit down dinner in highland w a glass of wine each and spent 85$, guess the falcon didn't want us as customers read more

As a Music Venue, The Falcon is top notch. Food wise not so much So we'll start with the venue. Super nice main room upstairs. There is no set cover charge, just a box you donate to when you enter (with a suggested donation of $20 for most shows). The main upstairs entrance has a nice bar to the right and a main room with large stage and tables set up for dining. There's multiple deck areas with outdoor seating by a waterfall outside which is awesome in good weather. Downstairs is a bar/rock n roll museum which also hosts music. Lots of great memorabilia to check out. Now the food. The menu has about 20 items from standard Caesar salad and hamburgers to Korean tacos and shrimp and grits. Everything SOUNDS great but my order was anything but. I ordered the calamari as appetizer and it was overcooked and rubbery. They give you a lot, but what good is that when not cooked properly. I also ordered the cheeseburger. It's a good size and comes with a ton of fries. I asked for medium rare, took a bite and it was medium to well done. I look at it as live and learn and just won't order it again next time but as I ate the burger towards the other side it got rarer. Going to medium to medium rare to the last bites being inedible they were so undercooked. How does one even cook a burger that way? I guess it was half on the grill. So yeah, my meal which cost $39 before tip with a soda was not good at all. My friends wife said the shrimp and grits were awesome. If I ever decide to spend money on food here again I guess I'll try that. So go for the music in a great venue. Eat before or after. read more

Went here for a Friday night show and enjoyed every moment! Although we didn't have a reservation and arrived late for the 8:30 pm show, the hostess was able to squeeze us in and we actually got a very good spot, only a few rows back. Definitely make a reservation if you know you're going to be going though - it was packed. The music: The band was absolutely fantastic - just to give you an idea of the quality of bands they get at this place, the band we saw was in the NYS Blues Hall of Fame, the International Blues Hall of Fame, and the Canadian Blues Hall of Fame, and the guitarist had played in Van Morrison's band for a while. They jammed out until around 10 pm. The food: We only got salads and appetizers so can't say for the entrees, but what we had was good. Sizable basket of house cut fries and decent salads. Selection of beers and wines includes quite a few from local breweries and wineries, at good prices. The atmosphere: Casual, it looked like a hunting lodge a bit. Lots of wood, big windows. Right near the falls, so I imagine it's really nice in the warmer weather. Service: Our food came out pretty fast, but again, we didn't get entrees. The servers were all really friendly and nice! World class talent that won't leave you broke. They're probably best known as the place that lets you pay what you can afford...and being that they've been here for a little while now it must mean that people aren't taking advantage and being deadbeats. As you walk in there's a box that says "Donations" and that's it. It's up to you to be an honest person and give what you can. I believe 20-25 is what they feel is fair and considering the amazing acts that they get here - that's more then fair. The prices they charge for food are also very fair. A pint of beer is $6 and they have about 6 beers on tap - from Stout to Pilsner. I had the veggi-burger ($16) it was pretty good. As for the room. The acoustics are very good. I saw a solo acoustic guitar player so it's tough to assume what a full band would sound like - but I'm guessing good because it's a long straight room with a very high ceiling. The only gripe I have - and it's very slight - is that the stage could stand to be a little higher. The guitar player I saw was sitting and it could be hard for people in the back to see him. However, most musicians/bands are standing when they play so that won't be an issue. Can't wait to head back there soon... read more

Come for the music. Stay because you're trapped. I'd seriously avoid the overpriced entrees. The appetizers are good, but you don't quite get what you pay for. And the music? Even if it an artist that you like, you will hear the owner of the restaurant introduce each act and pound his chest that your pay-what-you-think-the-headliner-is-worth fee keeps the independent music coming to the venue. Which would be noble if it weren't for the chest-beating. And the fact that the opening act doesn't get any of that fee. So, find dinner elsewhere that's cheaper first. Enjoy the music. A unique music and dining venue. The long drive on a cold Friday night was more than worth it. Upon arrival - reservation checked - we were offered any table for two available. At the front there are a few rows for guests visiting only for the music. The rest - two levels of tables that provide comfortable viewing (there is also a comfortable bar area in the back). Our table was centered perfectly - 2nd level front and center. Luck of the draw - the place was busy as popular Jazz guitarist Peter Bernstein w/band performed. This establishment promotes local talent as well. Local artist paintings were displayed around the dining / music room while a young local jazz band opened the nights entertainment. People seem to take their music seriously here. When a table on the far right became chatty a gentleman in front of us walked over and politely "corrected" them (He actually turned around when my brother and I conversed a bit). Respect the music. This venue seems to be respected by popular jazz musicians as well. From time to time (example Friday) these artists who play at Lincoln Center and the various jazz clubs in New York and around the world come up to the Falcon. What's shocking here - there is no cover charge. At night's end as you leave this fine place there is a donation box for your discretion. Early on the owner (who really has things going right here - my compliments) announces that 100% of donations go to the musicians. Oh Yes - almost forgot - The Food Pretty darn good. The menu (priced reasonably) is somewhat limited but what we tried certainly worked. The Sweet & Spicy Shrimp appetizer was simply delicious. Not too spicy / not too sweet - it worked perfectly. The House Special Salad with a Vinaigrette type dressing was refreshing. We both ordered the Fish Tacos (lamb burger sold out) which was sizable in both quantity and quality. Actually the only issue here is the location. No disrespect to Marlboro but this area is far from everyone. A similar establishment - run the same way - would be more than welcome in local Westchester towns (probably financially difficult) . Went to eat here for a birthday dinner. Made a reservation for around 6 just in case but it was pretty empty around that time. We were able to sit outside and the view was really cool. The waterfalls are beautiful and you are able to walk down to see more unfortunately we didn't know that until it was too dark out to see anything. They usually have live music too but we went too early. We got the hummus and basket of fries. The fries were so much more than expected which was really nice but we had to take them home. I got the fish tacos and he got the crab cake sandwich. The food was really good and came out really fast. Everything tasted fresh and delicious and we will definitely be back! read more

The performance space has a beautiful Hudson Valley feel (lots of exposed wood) and great acoustics and the building is adjacent to an active stream resulting from a waterfall. Wonderful location with the waterfalls next to the beer garden. The limited menu was understandable but the food was absolutely awful. Their version of chips and Queso was like velveeta nachos and sloppily put together. The knockwurst sandwich was not worth $5 yet for $14 was an insult. Two small pieces of some kind of sausage some caramelized onions and mustard on a cheap bun with sesame seeds on it. Note to proprietor: when you have one bread selection never make it with sesame seeds for allergy reasons. I will return for the entertainment but will not eat there again. read more

We have been to the Falcon 3 times to see one of our favorite bands and the first 2 times we had good service, but this time we came in and were met at the front by a nice gentleman who asked if we were eating and we said maybe but just drinks for now. So we sat at a table by the wall and were ignored for 20 minutes. The place had maybe 7 tables of people some eating some just drinking and one server. I don't know if someone called in sick that day BUT I had to actually get up and go ask the Server if we could get some drinks and menus. She brought our first round and menus and we never saw her again!!! We tried getting her attention so we could order and she just never came over to our side of the room again. Our friends showed up and they sat and waited also and then just went to the bar and got their drinks also. To be honest I actually felt slighted by the Server ignoring us all the while serving everyone else in the room. We were there 2 1/2 hours only got served our first round of drinks and given menus and then left and never asked is we needed anything AGAIN!!! We finally just went to the bar and got our drinks ourselves the rest of the night. So they really need to look into having the same amount of service given to everyone that comes in to their establishment. After this treatment We will probably not be going back to the Falcon... We will go to the other bars that our band plays at instead. read more

The 1 star is for the ambiance, beer taps and friendly staff. The food is BAD!! OVERPRICED by 2X! The fried food comes out very dark from failure to ever change their grease. The menu special, spicy Thai chicken, had some coconut milk, but otherwise was tasteless and without merit, and certainly not Thai. No spices were used at all. In fact I am not sure they even used salt and pepper. The fish tacos were not even close to what was listed in the menu. They were deep fried, over cooked, and all of the listed ingredients were substituted or omitted. Go for the music, but stay away from the food. I went with 2 other people on Saturday Night for Salsa dancing and Music. Was wonderfu, and the band was on point. What I am disappointed in was the food. You had a menu choice of about five items For this outdoor event. Since nothing appealed to me I asked for a cheeseburger. A $14 cheeseburger that was not even seasoned and did not even include fries or salad. My husband got the ribs and that was a big disappointment as well. The ribs had great flavor and taste but the portion wasn't even enough to satisfy a small child. Not to mention they were out of rice And the young man was scraping the bottom of the dish just to get a spoons full worth. what a pathetic act. This is not my first time at the falcon and I may go back. I will not order food from there again and since I do not drink, you may want to raise the prices of soda.
