I had nose pierced couple of weeks ago. Whatever cheap nose ring it was when I was cleaning up it fell out. I called the guy whoever answer the phone was so arrogant and he said I need to get nose pierced again. Guess what I paid $100 dollars including tips. When, I called again the guy said there is no appointment available to see the piercing guy. I felt like I waste my money, I will never go back again. I've only been to Fatty Zone on a few occasions but I always have positive experiences. I recently went in to get snakebites. I didn't think it was possible, but somehow Mark managed to bring more symmetry to my already amazingly perfect (and sexy) face. But honestly, Mark was a straight shooter with me and helped me out thoroughly. Initially, the jewelry I had was digging into my tender lip, especially while I slept. This resulted in some uncomfortable mornings when I felt the backings sinking in. Fortunately, Mark switched out the backings and gave me the option to go back to smaller ones when my lip is healed. Overall, Mark is a great guy and very professional. Additionally, the staff is friendly, funny, and helpful. I always feel welcome when I go in there, even if I'm just looking around. The shop is clean and comfortable, clearly a place where the craft is taken seriously. Prices are extremely reasonable. It's hard to find people willing to do honest work in lieu of making a quick buck. I went in for a navel piercing, but Mark advised me not to so that I could avoid potential health risks. I really appreciated that and ended up getting another ear piercing. To my dismay Mark was not the best piercer ever =\ He's one of those "bullshity" kind of people that sound like they know a lot about something but they don't... First I did a lot of research on piercings and what kind of materials work best for initial piercings. When I showed him my bioplast ring, he rejected the idea right away and it was obvious he has a huge ego since he started boasting about how he's the best piercer around. He was also very rude to me and my friend (who is a professional piercer- which is funny since he graduated from Stanford University). I wish I could give this place 0 stars because all the times I have come here I've had a bad experience. I decided, hey maybe I'm wrong, I'll give this place another shot, but when I came back, the staff was rude and didn't seem to care about what I was looking for (wanted a tongue piercing). The third time I came here with my friend, she wanted to get her belly pierced (also with a bioplast). Mark rejected her wish since he said scar tissue cannot be pierced due to an old piercing (which is funny because it's a year later and her belly was pierced by a better professional and it wasn't rejected or infected and the scars healed as well). Not only that but Mark said her "anatomy" made it so that her belly was unpierceable HAH, I'm sorry but someone that probably doesn't have a GED, and obviously hasn't gone to college, I can't take your word for shit. My friend who graduated from Stanford, majored in human anatomy and also a professional piercer obviously knows best. The only reason why me and my friends came here was because of the "good" reviews of how this place is "amazing". My friend just didn't have the piercing materials at the time, otherwise he would have pierced my friend himself. This place is just overpriced and the only reason why people come here is because Mark/Fatty Zone are just to cocky and think they are the best thing around and people believe that because they believe Mark is the professional so he MUST know more than him. Disclaimer: If a piercer doesn't want to pierce you because he believes it's too "risky" then obviously he must not be the best piercer around (especially when another piercer says "yeah it's risky but I can do a good job on it" and have it fully heal.) Also if the piercer does not know about all types of belly, tongue rings etc. (like bioplast, titanium, sterling silver etc.) the piercer is a dumbshit. hands down one of the most legit piercing places in the area! my friend wanted to get her lobes pierced for the second time so we headed over to fatty's...yes, the outside is intimidating. actually, so is the inside, even during the daytime haha. but once Mark came around it was all gooood; he's so friendly and he even laughed at all my jokes! what a gentleman! hahahaha ok anyways my friend gets her ears pierced and they came out PERFECT and she loved them. (normal lobe piercing is about $30). I wanted to buy a $10 ring for my cartilage piercing (previously done at a claire's in san diego... baddd idea), and i asked Mark to put it in for me. He removed my original earring and immediately upon seeing my cartilage states, "yeah, it's f*cked up." he picked a thicker ring to fix the "bump" you get when cartilage is pierced by a gun and stuck it through, and even though it hurt like a mother for a few seconds it came out soo much better than before! and after he only charged me for the price of the earring so i gave him a fat tip for being so sweet =)) this place is bomb and i'm def coming back when i'm 18, muahhaha =) (by the way, i think mark is only around 1-4pm on most days. make sure to call in!) read more

Let's just say if you need it, they've got it, at the right price and with excellent customer service. You can throw any curve ball at them and they'll be able to answer you from the top of their wonderful noggins. Fatty Zone seems like the least menacing and/or intimidating of all head shops I've ever entered, so I don't know why some people are saying they feel intimidated when they come here. Perhaps you haven't been to all that many? Because Fatty Zone is seriously the most professional and organized shop ever. But I didn't decide to write this review because of the shop, rather, it is for their skilled piercer Mark. The other day I spontaneously decided to re-pierce all of my previous piercings on my ears (huzzah for not having to maintain a professional image at work anymore!), so I rashly called Fatty Zone and set an appointment without doing any real research myself. All evening long I started over-analyzing everything and making myself a bit nervous about the forthcoming ordeal, considering I've never really been properly pierced because I thought getting "pierced" at the mall by a gun was legit. Fast forward 8 years and all those crappy so-called piercings are now closed up with scar tissue to prove it. Anyway, I showed up for my 6-7pm appt (the scheduler penned me in for a full hour because I told her I wanted to get at least five done that day) and Mark was behind schedule since the scheduler only gave him 5 minutes in between each appointment. He came out and apologized and explained to me how long it's going to take to sanitize the jewelry I picked out anyway, so I should come back in about a half hour. Some people gave him bad reviews because his appointments sometimes gets overlapped, but I really think it's unfair to critique him on that. Do you really want someone to do a rushed job with your piercing? Would you really rather he cut down the time it took him to sanitize your jewelry and his tools? I returned in 30 minutes and he still wasn't exactly ready, but at least he took the liberty of coming out and telling me what he was going to do next and that I shouldn't have to wait much longer. That, to me, is beyond excellent customer service. I mean, what more can a guy do? He's only got two hands. When it was my turn, he examined my ears and confirmed my worst worry: The top of my ears are shaped too weird to get properly pierced. That means 3/5 of the piercings I intended on getting were not going to pan out as I had hoped. BIG BUMMER!!! So we started examining my ears some more. I was hell-bent on getting some major piercing done today, so let's find out what we CAN pierce. After close inspection, we decided to replace those three piercings with a more extreme-yet-cute piercing that I am beyond thrilled about. It's nothing too eye-catching, or "wild" if you may, but it is definitely out of the ordinary and AWESOME! I couldn't be more thrilled about it. Truth be told, Mark is one really cool dude. He's been playing in a punk rock band called Insolence for years, and they still tour Japan frequently. Oh, the Japanese and their love of American punk! He is an amazing person to talk to with tons of cool stories to tell. He's a skilled piercer in a punk rock band, need I explain how cool he is any further? He's not going to fluff anything nor bullshit around. If you ask him if it's going to hurt, he will tell you the truth. I am already pondering what else I want to get pierced. I've been here before to get pierced, and spent even 45 minutes talking with the piercer and recommended him to all my friends. HOWEVER, I went in today to get a ball for my septum (which is healing and super sensitive) and I winced when he touched it at first. He immediately pulled off his gloves and said "I'm done, get out" and kicked me out of the shop. I didn't scream, cry, or jolt out of the table so there was no reason for this response. He then followed me outside, yelled at both me and my mom and told me to come back in. I've had several piercings, and usually when you tell someone you're in pain or nervous, they accommodate to that or at least care about you as a customer. He clearly does not care about customers, has no manners and has gotten a horrible attitude over the last few years. If you're going to get your first piercing or are nervous, definitely DO NOT go here. So disappointed. read more

My daughter is 12 and wants her nose pierced. I understand that she is young but this is my choice as a parent to allow her to do or not do. And I fully understand that it's the piercers discretion as well. I assumed there would be a minimum age policy or something and we were basically there for more information so that she could decide if this was something she wanted in the future, and remotely possible that it could happen tonight. However, the guys working to night were condensing and rude. I feel like Mike could have just said no instead of being a complete jerk about it and totally ruining my daughters expirience. Before getting my nose pierced I did a little research on yelp and eventually decided to check out Fatty Zone. Mark was totally awesome. The piercing room was clean, he changed his gloves a bunch of times, and he explained the whole nose piercing process to me before doing the actual piercing so I knew what to expect. When I walked in the place I was a little bit nervous, but after talking to Mark I felt very comfortable and at ease. I will definitely go back for all of my piercing needs. read more

I've been disappointed with this place several times, but tonight was the last straw. I frequent this shop regularly, at least twice a month. Sometimes for something big, sometimes just supplies and miscellaneous - but I always spend money! Often a lot, because, let's face it, this is one of the most expensive places around BUT they have a great selection, open late, and not too far from my house, so I've always been happy to pay the premium - until tonight. Earlier this week I drop by because I got a new vape and I need a battery and charger. I don't know much about them yet, and clearly the guy working their knew even less (although he was still awesome about trying to help me!), and left with a battery and charger. I spent two days trying to charge it, but it would not go to green. Finally went to a vape shop today, they explained that either battery and charger were not compatible with each other (18350 battery, 18650 charger) and/or one of them was defective. I bought a set from the vape shop, charged up nice in a hour, all was working fine - so I headed back over to Fatty Zone to return or exchange their battery and charger, price tags still on. What I learned was that the employees have been instructed to deny all returns or exchanges, and tell the customer they need to come back on a day when the manager is in, because ONLY the manager is allowed to accept an exchange or return. She is really nice about it, seems embarrassed herself at the ridiculous policy, but nevertheless could not exchange without her manager in the store. $20 worth of product, I have spend at least $2K there in the last 5 years, and they want me to keep coming back until I find a manager to accept my exchange. Clearly the management does not trust their employees, which is their business, but they put the burden of that lack of trust on their customer. Not OK, they lost me for good, and hopefully many more customers until they learn to have some respect for the customers that spend their hard earned dollars in their store. May seem like a small issue for some, but I just can't give my money to a store that doesn't give a crap about it's customers. I've read other reviews, spoken to friends and neighbors that shop there, sounds like this is par for the course - it's clear the management won't care, I really just wanted all you yelpers to know about my experience. read more

Came in for my first piercings (earlobes). Called in and was able to make an appointment on the same day. Mark was super dope. He was very informative and detailed with explaining the whole process. I wanted fake black plugs but he explained that they'd be too heavy for starter piercings, so I settled with the black studs that he had. They were his last ones, so it would be a good idea to call in and see what they have before you schedule your appointment. read more

It's been two months since my nose piercing, so I went in and asked Mark advice about changing the jewelry, etc. He was pretty busy with several other piercings, but he remembered me, inquired about my piercing, took a look at it, and said he could help me in a bit. Since my piercing hadn't quite healed yet, it was a slight struggle to get in the new stud, but Mark was super gentle and got it done with little trouble. He also gave me some great advice about how to minimize the swelling and speed the healing. Even though as a suburban housewife, I'm probably not your "typical" Fatty Zone customer, Mark always makes me feel welcome and comfortable. I'm not planning on changing my jewelry for quite some time now, but when I do, I will definitely go back to Mark and the Fatty Zone! read more

Well, not sure where to start. I decided I wanted to get my septum pierced again, so I went and did some research on yelp, and came across The Fatty Zone. I have driven by this place a couple times so I was aware of where it was just had never been in. Needless to say all there are on here and rave reviews of how awesome Mark was so I decided to call and get some prices. Mark sounded super nice and to my surprise was very well prepared asking what kind of jewelry I was looking for so he could pick some stuff out for when I came in. Got in there and not going to lie he's a bit intimidating but awesome guy, super nice, knows his stuff, and totally willing to get and give you what you want. His piercing room was super clean and definitely impressed me by his set up. Changed his gloves every time he did or touched something and he is a awesome piercer. My septum had been pierced before so I was already aware it was going to hurt because of scar tissue but he made it that much easier by talking to me and what not and letting me know what was going on. Went there few days ago to get my nose(nostril) pierced! I called earlier to make an appointment and arrived on time. Filled up some paperwork and showed my ID. Everything was fast and Mark definitely know what he's doing. He could totally tell I was nervous. The whole process was so fast and PAINLESS! Id say it was just a 1.5/10 for nostril piercing.
