In previous visits this place has knocked the experience out of the park. My family has been choosing this restaurant for years for birthdays/celebrations due to its menu and ambience. This was my 3rd attempt dining at The Fed. The first time was so good we bragged about the restaurant to anybody who would listen. The 2nd time was awful, they had a big party downstairs and basically had to apologize for ignoring the rest of the tables. I literally took forever to get food and service due to a large part downstairs but apparently it backed up the kitchen. Well, I had an AWFUL birthday dinner here last night. The server was awful, the food was awful, the experience was so sub par. Not a single person at our table enjoyed their experience. Starting off with a party of 5 being sat at a small round table for 4. The staff brought a bread basket and didn't even know where to put it...we had no room at all on the table squished in with 5 plates and glasses. We ordered the charcuterie board and it was so pathetic. 2 pieces of salami and what looked like olive loaf. After asking the server finally explained what everything was as when we asked for another piece or 2 of salami (because it truly was the only edible looking meat) he said he would have to charge us. We ran out of bread quickly and asked for another few pieces since we had a kid with us and service was taking forever. The waiter said sorry I'll have to charge you for that. Other than the French onion soup, I'm not sure anybody enjoyed their main dish. An Asian ham special that was cloyingly sweet, a pasta dish that wasn't great... We get a dessert menu and I'm so excited for a post dinner coffee! I order a salted caramel latte from the desert menu and am told they don't do lattes or cappuccinos at night? The machines are off. All we can do is a shot of espresso. Then why is it coffee on the dessert menu??? At this point we were over it. We left with no dessert on my birthday and went to Kroger and got a small cake. We had a brunch reservation for 8 people and had to put a deposit down on a credit card for $10 per person that would be refunded once the reservation was fulfilled. The table already had cloth napkins and silverware on top but some of the napkins already had stains on them. The beignets were suggested to us a starter and all of us dug into them with our silverware to eat them. This ended up being really messy since it was mostly powdered sugar and jelly. When they came to clear our table to make room for the main dishes, they left the sticky/powdery silverware for us to continue using. Our server did great at first explaining the drink menu but ended up confusing us once the drinks came out. Almost the entire table ordered the special mimosa they had for the day that cost $5 extra than the regular mimosas (we were fine with the price). She said since there's so many drinking, she would bring us two bottles and one of them would be for the special mimosa mix and the other would be for two other juices of our choice just to have variety. She brought a small little carafe that held about 8 oz of the special mimosa mix for the whole table and it barely was enough. When I asked for another glass of the special mimosa mix, she said it would cost the same amount even though we weren't ordering another bottle which made no sense. We ended up paying for one special mimosa plus the bottle and one regular mimosa plus the bottle instead of two special mimosas with the bottle. She also misheard one of the orders that was supposed to be a classic Benny but she ended up bringing out a classic breakfast instead. She fixed it right away for us and took the extra dish off our bill without us even asking which we appreciated. At the end of our meal, they brought out a small bowl of edible Oreo cookie dough with a candle in it for a birthday we were celebrating. It was very cute. The food tasted good and everything looked beautiful but the cleanliness and service were a bit underwhelming. read more

Definitely make a reservation because this is a popular spot! They decorated it really nice and classy for the holidays, and the ambiance was lively. Service was fantastic - our waiter was personable and helpful, all of our food/drinks were served quickly and water glasses were never empty. For cocktails, I started with the Monte Carlo, which I enjoyed but was also impressed by their non-alcoholic menu. For an appetizer, we split the focaccia which was outstanding - 10/10 would do again. On a recommendation, I decided to go with the mushroom pasta for my main and it was good but not extraordinary and the added chicken was a little dry. So it's in an old bank, pretty cool. They must decide the price of the food in the vault. First time I've had jerk chicken that wasn't seasoned. That was a feat I did not know could be accomplished. The chicken was also bone dry. Horrible all around. Another person in our party got the lemon pasta which was also bland and flavorless. The couple we went with did not like either of their dishes. Not even a bread basket was brought to the table. $18 drinks and $30-50+ entrees and the food could have been better if I stayed home and made it myself. Save yourself the time and go somewhere else. I love eating here! The atmosphere is pretty, and there are so many intricate details in the decorations down to even the plates. I've never had anything I don't like, but my favorite is the smoked salmon toast with a side of truffle potatoes. There is a generous portion of salmon on the toast, and the potatoes are crispy and seasoned well. My only complaint is that sometimes it can get difficult to hear/talk to friends if you're dining in the basement when there's live music. read more

I got carry out, so I can't speak for my experience in store. However, from what I can tell, the environment and ambiance there is incredible. Very cozy, warm, and beautiful inside. I'll be back for dinner someday! The staff was very kind. Placing an order was very easy on the phone. I wanted a classic cheeseburger with fries, and for the price, quality, and taste, I was very happy. My friends ordered multiple things. They both got salads as starters, and the size was small. For the price, I was definitely expecting a lot more, so that was slightly disappointing. This was during the holiday time (November-December), so I can't find the items on the menu anymore, maybe it was a seasonal thing. read more

You want fine quality dining in Clarkston AVOID AT ALL COSTS. Fine dining? NOPE! Food standards? NOPE! This was an awful experience on so many levels. A special dinner destroyed by cold food and cooking with ingredients they dont even know can be harmful. We booked here for a small wedding party. If you want to go to a reputable place and spend an exuberant amount of money on a great meal, this is NOT it. We thought it would be, but we were gravely mistaken. Where to start... I think their biggest strike was the fact they served an entire restaurant of people bacon without disclosing it... and the sad part is this is such an amateur establishment that they needed me to point this out to them. What oversight right? They didn't even know their own food, their own ingredients. They didnt know they were serving bacon in their greens. What reputable restaurant doesn't know what they are serving their customers? You pay for the idea of a good restaurant and you are served sub par dive bar plates. Now this is a big issue on several fronts. 1 being religious reasons. Another being simple nutrition. My girlfriend cant eat pork. She gets violently ill from it. Well, half into her meal she pats me on the shoulder, "is this bacon?" yes... yes it is. Bring it to the waiters attention. "There's no bacon in this" "Oh no, then tell me, what is this?" He takes the plate... no its not just this one its on everyones plate. Everyone's plate in the whole restaurant lol absolutely clueless... they dont know their putting bacon in their greens? Unreal. So sure enough shes been on the toilet violently ill. They're apologetic because they changed their vegetable midshift and dont know how to cook or disclose it? How do you want your special dinner to go? Is arguing with management an option? Because that was our reality. How embarrassing. I had to applogize to the rest of the party after this incident. I was absolutely mortified and why should I be when Im spending like 125pp? We asked to speak to the manager about serving bacon to unknowing customers. then I asked to talk to him away from the party so not to ruin everyone's special night. He thinks a 50 dollar gift card is worth an entire night of being violently ill, spending it throwing up, and you know the other end too. I told him this is exactly what would happen... no sympathy no answers... nothing. Yeah man, you think were rushing back to your restaurant? Now this was supposed to be a nice dinner celebrating a beautiful wedding and how do we spend it? On the toilet? He stood by his decision and didn't care that our party will never return. He stood by his restaurant that got my girlfriend violently ill. I asked him if he thinks anyone at my table would ever return to his establishment. He replied yes, because they have been operating since 2017 and have been very successful. That must be great for them. Style over substance and simple standards. Now, for obvious reasons, we will not be returning and I highly suggest you look elsewhere for a quality meal. This just simply isnt it. A complete lack of knowledge of food standards being the first and foremost but also uninspiring overpriced meals. Lets remove the ridiculous unknowing nondisclosure of ingredients... -3 surf and turf entrees (75 each) all came out cold. When I say cold, I mean they place butter on the steak and it didnt even begin to melt! - 60 Dollar NY strip, every person spit out atleast one piece from it being too chewy. Each steak- poorly cooked, poorly seasoned. Seriously guys, the table had to ask for ketchup to dip it in... Thats embarrassing. -Chocolate espresso martinis are absolutely vile. Might as well drink hersheys syrup. Do not order this. The drinks are unbelievably overpriced but this one wasnt even consumable. There's absolutely nothing fine dining about this place other than the idea of it. It is lipstick on a pig. I asked the other 5 people how much they would pay for their meal and the consensus is 15-20 dollars... far cry from the 50-75 per person entree. Now I must give positives where they are due... Michael the server was absolutely fantastic. He seemed legimately upset by the kitchen and manager's' ineptness. He also provided great service during the meal and was tipped accordingly. Also, the cauliflower was amazing... such a shame you have to eat at this dreadful overpriced facade to enjoy it. I highly recommend The Fed for a nice dinner! We went on a Wednesday night and made reservations and I'm glad we did because it was busy. Rotating menu, all farm to table and all tasty! We got the focaccia with hot butter, it was very good but not super oily like traditional focaccia. My husband got a makers mark on the rocks and the pasta alla pomodoro which was tasty with a little kick. I got the gnocchi saltado which was delightful, one of those meals you think about for months after. Our total bill was $93. Service was good but a tad slow. They had a live guitar player and singer but it was quiet enough to talk, beautiful and cozy place for a date night or a night out with your girlfriends. read more

I have to be honest with my review as always. We only sat in the bar downstairs for the band. We ordered french onion soup and the burger and fries. The French onion soup was just okay but very noticeably lacked cheese. The cheeseburger on the other hand was inedible. It was an absolute complete salt bomb. Now to the credit of the restaurant, they did take this off my bill but it was more than a half hour after I ordered it before anybody even came back to ask how our food was. The other issue I had is that we were there with another couple sitting in the lounge type area on the couch and 2 chairs. Our friends were on the couch and we were on the chairs. I picked up drinks for our friends and when we both got our bills we noticed they charged both of us for the same drinks, this to me was pretty shady. We pointed it out they fixed it but had we not been communicating well they would have double charged us for drinks. Be aware, if you order bourbon with a big cube, they will charge you and extra $4 for the ice. So my advice is to be very careful about your bill, and I can tell you the food we had was very underwhelming, If not inedible. Had a very nice brunch before the Lions game last Sunday. We had a reservation for 4 at 10:15. We arrived a bit early and the hostess explained there would be a slight wait to give the servers and kitchen enough time to provide a great experience. We completely understood and were happy to move to the bar to grab a cocktail. We ordered mimosas and beers and before we knew it, our table was ready. Our server was wonderful. She explained the history behind the restaurant and invited us to look around the space. It's beautifully decorated was very inviting. I ordered the breakfast croque madame pizza. It was delicious. Loved the rosemary flavor in the crust! My friend got the avocado toast. So beautiful. After our brunch we went downstairs to check it out. Such a beautiful space- perfect for a party. Cheryl and I had a few hours before Counting Crows & Santana concert at Pine Knob Theatre. Fortunately, we stumbled on The Fed in beautiful downtown Village of Clarkston. The restaurant is a chic restored bank building. Our first clue it would be fabulous was the herb boxes out front of the restaurant. Cheryl ordered the Scallops over wild mushroom risotto and I ordered gnocchi saltado. As usual, we shared our bites and added a wonderful bottle of Predator Cabernet Sauvignon ( a new favorite ). I visit The Fed often, and was surprised to learn that they now charge $10 per person just to make a reservation. This is not a temporary hold or deposit everyone... it's an actual charge to your card! While I fully understand (and support) policies that protect against no shows or late cancellations, charging people simply for the privilege of dining there is ridiculous. When I asked whether the $10/person ($60 in total for us) would go toward our meal, I was told, "It will either be discounted from your bill or refunded back to your card." Why is it either? Anyway, fast forward to our meal being finished, there was no mention of the $60 reservation charge being discounted from the receipt or being refunded, so we had to ask staff about it ourselves. Was told coldly that it was refunded. Having to investigate your bill and chase down charges makes for a poor dining experience. As for the food, it was just okay. The service was oddly disorganized. For example, we had two burgers cooked to different temperatures, and they (3 servers) couldn't figure out which was which. Overall, just a very bizarre and disappointing experience. read more

They serve a good Sancerre on the wine menu for a fair (as restaurants go) price. Menu feels limited - need a fish special/option other than salmon. Red wines rule the day on the wine list, but that's fine. Our group shared fried cauliflower and 4/4 agreed it was very good. The carrots were nice. 2/4 enjoyed those. The olives were delicious. Marinade was.... Interesting. Great on approach, tasted like soap in the aftertaste. My sister and I agreed this would be an awesome happy hour destination.... If they still had happy hour! We were informed by staff they no longer do a happy hour. Service was excellent - both knowledgeable and welcoming. Price points are high for serving sizes. Don't mind paying however, since there was no cover for entertainment. If you get early dinner reservations (closer to 6/7) and retire to basement party for after- dinner cordials, it's worth the time and pretty penny. read more

Lovely evening at The Fed!! They take reservations so we were seating immediately. Beautiful decor. We started with the yummy cauliflower app and the mushroom flatbread. 10/10! Dinner was the fantastic and well prepared duck breast and the Fed burger. It's a double decker burger with great toppings and their crispy, tasty fries The cocktail menu is great...ordered a nice bourbon drink. They offer it neat or you can BUY a one x one once ice cube. Lol...buy an ice cube??? I've never if something so silly. We had it neat. I'm sure we could have just gotten ice. My date had a regular Jack and Coke with free ice!!! It's not a negative at all...we just thought it was funny. Our server, Megan couldn't have been better. Friendly, attentive and knowledgeable about the menu. We came here before a concert at Pine Knob. We had a table on the patio, which was very nice but I kind of wish we were inside or even downstairs so we could hear the band and see the ambiance. The vibe is very cool. We ordered the cauliflower appetizer and we all loved it. It had a light and fluffy breading with a sweet and delicious sauce. Then I ordered the kale salad with a side of truffle fries. The salad was probably the best salad I have had. Salads are usually kind of boring but this one was far from it. It was unique and had a cashew dressing with peaches and I wish I could eat it every day. The truffle fries were also delicious and the portion was huge! The kitchen was a big slow but our server was great and super friendly. Overall we were very impressed with the quality and flavor of the food, but the food service was a little slow and I am glad I didn't pay the bill. The prices were a bit expensive for an everyday date night for us. We would save it for special occasions. read more

An organic farm to table scratch kitchen which was magnificent from beginning to end. I get a burger most places I go cuz I'm a simple dude, but this burger was legit the best I've ever had. My wife's gnocchi tenderloin and beet risotto were choice, and the carmel apple cheesecake was ridiculous. I hate to say it was also the best cheesecake I've ever had after giving the burger 100 stars, but the truth is it was also the best cheesecake we have ever had too. The Seafood Tagliatelle was pretty good, it was made with white wine garlic broth, so it was more like a soup rather than a sauce. Not what I would have preferred, but still delicious! The cocktails are creative, I ordered Flowers in Mexico which was made with mezcal, serrano infused agave, rose water, orange and lavender bitters. It was on the sweeter side but still very tasty. The Fed is a very aesthetic, beautifully decorated space for people to grab drinks and food. It's very lively and great atmosphere for a night of social drinking or even a romantic night out. They have live music/band performances on Friday and Saturday nights. The menu is unique and offers fun flavors and offerings. We had the Rick's flatbread minus the bacon and it was so good! Never thought I would eat flatbread with dill pickles and ranch on it, but with the combination of the truffle oil and onions, it was so tasty and blew me away. I also loved the refreshing kale salad. Not sure about the hazelnut though. The scallops ($40) were cooked perfectly but I didn't care for the wild mushroom risotto. You only get 3 scallops though. The truffle fries with garlic aioli was so good and not too greasy. The lavender lemonade was really good but expensive ($9) for a mocktail. The menu is a bit on the pricey side. Went here for brunch recently with some friends. I had been here a few years ago and loved it. This second visit with friends did not disappoint. The decor is beautiful and our waiter was very friendly. We started with the beignets which were delicious, highly recommend getting those if you're in for brunch. They have a nice selection of brunch cocktails on the menu if that's your thing.
