The atmosphere is the typical BBQ setup. The food is the star of the show. The service was excellent as well. I had the half rack of ribs with smoked corn and slaw. Ribs were great, corn was fantastic and the slaw was ok. My wife had the pulled pork sandwich with Mac and cheese and slaw. Excellent pulled pork, good Mac and cheese and the slaw. We settled in and placed our orders -- I had a small cup of gumbo and a small red beans and rice, Dad ordered the gator bites, and my wife and mother both went with the shrimp and cheese grits. Having spent many years traveling through seven different states, including plenty of time in Louisiana and New Orleans, I've had my share of gumbo. To put it kindly, this wasn't one of the better ones. It lacked the dark roux that gives gumbo its signature flavor, had very little liquid, and mostly consisted of chunks of chicken and okra over a pile of rice. The red beans and rice were decent, with the highlight being the sausage, though there were only three or four very thin slices. I'd love to find that sausage again! The shrimp and grits I sampled had good, creamy grits, tasty shrimp, and a tomato-based étouffée-style sauce that worked well together. The waitress was prompt, the food arrived hot and on time, and overall it was a decent experience -- but not quite what I'd consider a true Cajun restaurant.
