    Steak frites

My friends and I met at the restaurant on a Tuesday for lunch. This time we were seated by the side overlooking the parking lot. It was so much brighter from the last time I was here with my husband. We were seated inside near the fireplace so the ambiance was darker. I felt I couldn't see my food! I ordered the steak frites. The steak was tender juicy cooked just right. It had a delicious mushroom sauce and the fries were crispy and well seasoned.I loved the salad greens that come with this dish. There have been very good changes to the menu and an improvement in service. Now I would recommend this place. Before not so since I found the food to be ehh. Definitely will come again.

Always a great experience! Delicious food, although the crab cake was extremely small and one piece of grilled bread with the burratta was odd. Will return, but likely won't order the crab cake again.

My half eaten bowl of the BEST French Onion Soup I've had yet! Delicious!

BEST French Onion Soup! Attentive staff, fresh and delicious food, cool building and decor, clean, and very reasonably priced. A favorite!

Made a reservation for here on a Sunday night and it was quite busy! Server was this really nice guy and checked in with us a lot during the meal (maybe even too much?). I ordered the salmon, which I found to be just okay. I swapped out the mashed potatoes for the duck fat potatoes, but found them to be quite bland. Overall, the food could've used more seasoning.

Came across this place while house hunting and omg - found the perfect French onion soup! It was so delicious! My daughter ordered the vegetarian pasta, my son ordered the fish and chips, my husband ordered the NY strip and he's still talking about it haha I ordered the crab cakes and they were perfect! Will def go back just for the French onion soup. Loved the dim lighting and even though we didn't have reservations, we were seated pretty quickly. Just an all-around great experience.

Top of the list of restaurants for me and my husband!! All bases are covered: delicious food at a reasonable price, excellent service and very relaxing atmosphere!! Can't think of one dish, from appetizers to entrees to desserts, we've ordered and didn't love.

The French onion soup is unlike any version you've had before--made with onion rings instead of the traditional slow-caramelized onions. It sounds bold, and it is, but it works beautifully. The broth is rich and deeply savory, the cheese pull is perfect, and the crispy rings add a texture you never knew the classic was missing. The pork chop remains the star of the menu--huge, expertly seasoned, and cooked with precision. It's widely considered the best in the city, and honestly might be the best in the state. Juicy, tender, and full of flavor, it's the kind of entrée you end up recommending to friends for weeks. Their octopus is another standout, prepared with surprising delicacy. Tender, not chewy, with a perfect char that adds just the right amount of smokiness. It's balanced, refined, and one of the most memorable small plates you'll find locally. And don't leave without dessert--the crème brûlée is phenomenal. Silky smooth custard under a flawlessly torched sugar crust that cracks just right. Simple, classic, and executed perfectly. Between the inventive dishes and the warm atmosphere, The First Post remains a must-visit for anyone who loves great food done exceptionally well.

Beautiful 1880 building .Cream of crab and French onion soup both outstanding. Caesar salad was off the chart with fried cubes of cheese and gummy eggs on bed of romaine. Als crab dip with chips and crab cake sandwich are very crabby and good. Good service a little backgç round music. Local favorite

Great burgers! Best in town. It's always crowded, but sometimes you can find a cozy seat at the bar.

Ask the Community - The First Post

What time can we begin ordering from the dinner menu?

We begin serving dinner at 4pm daily with the exception of Saturdays and Sundays when we run the dinner menu all day.

Do you have a private room for dinner programs, possibly seating up to 30 people?

Yes, we have 2 private rooms located upstairs.

Is there a wine and beer list?

    Yes

Is it loud? My father doesn't do well in noisy places.

It depends on the time of day and your tables proximity to the bar area. Near the bar after about 5pm it can be loud. But away from the bar is just normal restaurant noise

    Is it expensive?

Depends on what you consider expensive. Two people can eat there with drinks included for under $50

    Seared tuna sandwich?

My wife had it and thought it was very good.
