So, we just occupied two high tops in the bar area and pushed them together, which is not always acceptable in most places, but they handled it with ease. So we took my mother here for a birthday celebration, there was 10 in our party. Reservation was made and we only waited a few minutes for table. Extensive adult drink menu, the blue mojito was amazeballs according to my wife. I had the York beer, cannot remember the name. I had the french onion soup, and the tenderloin salad. French onion soup was average, I like mine bold and this was sorta on the wimpy side. The presentation was phenomenal. I was very dissappointed with the salad. The tenderloin quality of meat was not that good, and I requested mine to be served "medium". My steak was way overcooked and had so much gristle, i didn't eat half the steak. The remainder of the salad was good and it had a lot of good veggie items. Too bad on the steak. (I wish I would have got the scallops) So if you read my review, you might wonder why i scored 5 stars. It is because of the service from our server, Ashley. Okay I stopped here because of the yelp reviews and the Tuesday oyster special ($1 oysters) and I was not disappointed. The scotch eggs were great but didn't need to be served with such a big bowl of honey mustard - in fact you don't need to dip them into anything. service was a touch slow at the bar. THEY HAVE PAPPY VANWINKLE IF YOU WANT TO SPEND SOME $$$$. The octopus appetizer was the best octopus dish I've ever had. Perfectly grilled and tender. I've been here twice now and absolutely love it, both times we had exceptional service, and the atmosphere is so pleasant and social but not too loud, I can't say enough positive things. The menu is fantastic, I recommended this place to some family members and they were very impressed with it as well. You really can't go wrong here. It's huge, and has separate dining rooms and bar area to break up any noise, the staff is well trained, and the menu is well balanced. We stopped here for a late lunch. We were traveling through the area and it got good reviews on Yelp. The décor is like a high end old tavern with wood paneling. I asked about the crab dip and our waiter, Samuel, was not very friendly. He never smiled and answered questions about the menu in short statements. I'm a friendly person so I was taken aback esp. when seeing him later laughing and smiling with other guests. We ordered Greek salad w/chicken $16, cup of crab soup $5, Smith Island $6.50, Crab dip $12.50 and iced tea $2.25. Everything tasted fine. The crab dip tasted like other crab dip we had eaten in the area, so nothing special. We decided to end with a layered chocolate cake. The cake was delicious, but cold which made the icing firm. In a town where people rarely go out to eat, y'all were HOPPIN' on our first visit. It was a regular Tuesday night. I didn't think we needed reservations. But, I was wrong. The restaurant was packed at 6:15pm. Our party of 11 waited over an hour for a table. No biggie though, we had fun catching up outside. When it was our turn, we were escorted to the back area where several tables were pushed together for us. Chad, our main server, was fantastic! He explained the history of the building, renovation process, & answered questions regarding food and drinks...all with gusto and a big smile. Chad and his runners made us feel like valued guests. Our drinks were continually replenished. Empty plates were promptly cleared away. Food came out as ordered to the correct diner. I was very impressed by how well they all worked together. The food overall was quite tasty. Standouts included shrimp tempura, mussels & frites, hibachi steak, & shrimp scampi. These readily came to mind because we ordered a second round of each to share. Desserts, coffees, and adult beverages rounded out our meal. We left around 9:50pm full, happy, & with money in our pockets. Price was very reasonable. Highly recommend you give First Post a try. Ate there a while back and Dang they know how to cook a steak perfectly! My wife steak special was amazing! I ordered the chiopino, it was good. But who thought it was a good idea to throw salmon scrap in there. I work in resteraunts, I get it, but fatty salmon? There is a reason you don't see salmon bisque or soups... staff was amazing! My daughter and her boyfriend, both military members, Army and Marines respectively (yes, contrary to popular belief both branches do get along, ha ha) went to the The First Post on Valentine's Day for lunch. They both had an unusual, embarrassing situation while they were there and the management was very gracious, understanding and helpful to the young couple. Because of their excellent customer service, I wanted to thank them for their kindness, so I went there for lunch with a friend a week later and sought out the manager on duty to thank her for the way they handled the situation. Excellent spot for a Saturday night birthday dinner. My husband and I got in around 8:30pm, sat immediately and our waitress promptly took our drink order. My husband had the fish and chips (which I had a few bites of and was the best fish and chips I've had outside of London) and I got the Hibachi steak. It was perfection. For an app, we originally ordered the chicken and waffles but they were out of them (which is understandable since we were dining late) so we got the mini gyros which were so good. The pita was perfect and the sauce was very crisp and fresh. We will definitely de dining here again. We live very close by and feel lucky to have it nearby. As a side note, we didn't sit in the bar but walking by I have to say it's gorgeous. Very high end. read more

We w went to The First Post restaurant for the first time after hearing about it from our son. Our experience was wonderful. We had reservations and were seated within minutes. The ambiance was beautiful, with a fire burning in the old stone fireplace, an intimate atmosphere and excellent service. The menu is diverse and top quality and we enjoyed every bite of our meal. Went due to a recommendation, 45 minute drive. Anniversary dinner. I just was not wowed. I looked at all the reviews beforehand and most were good, but I just wasn't impressed. The atmosphere was nice, staff nice enough, But my CIOPPINO broth was so bland, everything in it tasted like fish I don't know where the scallops and shrimp were and the grilled sourdough bread was so sopping with butter, it was soggy and not crisp to dip in that bland sauce. No loss I guess. With the prices I was expecting more. Live and learn. read more

All our food was excellent - shrimp tempura, Cesar Salad, salmon dish off lunch menu, kids rigatoni Alfredo and chicken fingers were all ordered and very good! A little disappointed in that we arrived at 3:05 and were unable to order the hibachi steak, as the kitchen was not ready for the "4pm dinner service". I don't recommend the Sangria - too coco-nutty.
