My boyfriend and I stopped in July 19th for a bite for lunch before heading back to Ft. Lauderdale. It came highly recommended to us but we were...underwhelmed. I got the fried conch and broiled lobster tail and he got the steamed mussels and fried grouper sandwich. Everything seemed to lack seasoning -- even just basic salt. It was all extremely bland and frankly, overcooked. My lobster tail was dry and the conch fritters were dark and the conch itself kind of lost in the fried batter. Where was the texture? I've had conch before and this was not it. The mussels also were a little mushy and again, lacked much flavor. My boyfriend told me his sandwich was bland bland bland and he was disappointed that it was his last fried grouper sandwich before we had to head back home. Good food fast! This restaurant feels very cramped inside with barely enough room for the staff to get between the tables with feeling like you've got to duck or shift out of the way. But the staff is efficient and work quickly to make your visit a good one. The place was already packed when we got there around 6:30pm on a Monday! A good sign people like eating here. My husband ordered the fried shrimp basket, I ordered the peel'n eat shrimp and left room for key lime pie. Food came out quickly and was perfectly cooked. So i ended up here after seeing this place featured on diners, drive-in's and dives with Guy Fieri. It looked so amazing that I decided that if I was ever in Key Largo I would have to go there. This was not a dissappointment at ALL! The food was amazing and the ambiance was "touristy and divey" at the same time. SOOO many fresh fish options. I was planning on a big dinner so I went light with a croissant sandwich. My husband loves seafood so he was a little bit more apt to getting something with a little more weight to it. Best seafood restaurant i've been at. Every time i come on vacation to visit key west I MAKE this place a top priority visit. The freshness of the seafood is astounding. I always come for the snow crab and fresh oysters. There's so many other varieties of foods on the menu. Got the lobster bisque, the fish dip, and the mahi mahi catch of the day matecumbe style. The bisque, honestly was not bad, not great, exactly how you would expect it. Pretty creamy, not much lobster pieces inside, some seafood flavor. Just something with the word lobster that doesn't have any lobster that still tasted somewhat decent. The fish dip, that was interesting since that was my first time having fish dip. There's a very generous portion and they give you some crackers to eat with it. It's SUPER smokey and was something great to share I thought. The highlight of the meal was the mahi mahi (dolphin fish) matecumbe style. It was very tender and the onions and tomato were good additions on it, but the lemon drops were the perfect complement. Normally you see lemon and you add it because it's there and not really because it adds that much to the taste. Here, it just worked magically by elevating a somewhat neutral flavor of the fish. I think if you just get the catch of the day matecumbe style, it's a 4. Otherwise, probably a 3 star. read more

It does not get better or fresher than The Fish House! Truly my favorite restaurant ever! I have been coming here for over 10 years and whether it's a stop on the way back from Key West or a day trip to just come eat here I always make sure to come back a few times a year. Just an hour and a half from Miami it's worth the drive to come experience this Florida Keys institution. The decor is fun and you pretty much can't go wrong with anything on the menu. I personally LOVE the Baked Stuffed Grouper but highly recommend the Hog Fish when it's available. The Hemingway preparation is also a big hit with anyone I bring and I always steal a few bites. There's always a wait but it moves pretty fast and not sure about reservations as I've never made one and don't think I've ever waited more then 20 minutes for a table so you should be fine. So get down to The Fish House as soon as you can and I bet you won't shut up about it like I haven't since my first time there! read more

Grilled filled with sides for lunch seem like a good deal - and they have a rotating list of fishes daily. The decor reminds you you're in the keys from the first step in the door. Strings of pineapple and starfish lighting hang from a net across the ceiling. The lunch and dinner menus are both large with lots of seafood combinations and creative flavors. It is dark and intimate inside with lots of seating. I wouldn't call it a classy place, but definitely a great place for a date or business dinner, nonetheless. The make their own key lime pie in house. Service is efficient. They are definitely used to being busy. There is an outdoor seating area, but you lose a lot of the character of the restaurant out there. It is chilly inside, so bring a sweater. My wife and I sat at the bar and the bartender was friendly and responsive. We were really lucky to get right in because as we left there was a rather large crowd outside. I ordered the Yellowfin tuna ($29) and she got crab stuffed mahi mahi ($35). The tuna was unseasoned and slightly seared on both sides. It was ok once I doused it in the soy sauce it came with. Her fish was really tasty but the mahi mahi was overcooked. The sides were pretty terrible. Unseasoned boiled corn and slightly salted boiled red potatoes. The coleslaw was the standard white creamy kind you can get at the grocery store. We got a slice of key lime pie to share at the end and it was ok. We had Kermit's pie earlier on our trip and it didn't come anywhere close to that. Overall I walked away feeling heavy with a lighter wallet, and the food was just so-so. We stopped here for the first time in 2006 on our way to honeymoon in Key West. It was one of the most memorable lunches we have had. When we are able to return to the keys, this is a must do for us. Our daughter and son in law joined us this time and our first chance to review since joking you fellow Yelpers! Upon entering, you get a homey feeling with the string lights and the fishing net decor all around. There's definitely a wait to be seated on the weekends so be patient. The food is worth it. The staff is very friendly. You can see the fresh seafood sitting behind the glass counter in the waiting area. Our server was awesome and the food came out super quick. Here's what I ordered: Smoked fish dip - Great taste. Not fishy at all, a lot of smoky flavor and a huge portion of it. Conch chowder - Very flavorful with big pieces of conch floating inside. I was pretty excited to try this place based on the reviews/ratings I had seen. When we arrived at 5:30pm it was already super busy! That seemed like a good sign. It took a while for our server to take our drink order, we made sure to place our appetizer order with our drinks and I'm glad we did because it took forever for the server to come back and take our order. I will say the fish on both our entrees was delicious ( I had a whole fried snapper and my mom had the hogfish matecumbe style). The sides are nothing to write home about: steamed rice, luke warm corn on the cob, average coleslaw. The key lime pie was good, not the best I've had down here. Long story short the oysters with white wine and Parmesan cheese were on point. The stone crab claws or whatever they called in Florida were meh kinda of a pain in the ass to deal with wouldn't order again. Coconut ice cream was really good for desert. Very small restroom here expect to wait awhile if you have to go lol parking is free. Would totally order differently next time I'm passing through the keys.
