For someone who works in a stressful field, relaxing, and shutting the world out is not something I find easy to do. My friend got me a float and I was a little worried that I wouldn't be able to do it. Once I adjusted to calm, peace, and quiet, I didn't want to get out. The infrared sauna is a great thing to do before the float. It helps to relax any physical stress issues. Staff was friendly and helpful and understood that I was a little apprehensive about whether or not I could do this. My sleep improved as well as the busyness in my head. This week I had the opportunity to revisit floating in a sensory denervation tank at The Float Place in Patchogue. This was the first time I've done this since the pandemic hit and I have to tell you, I can't believe I waited so long to go back. Before the pandemic, I was doing this routinely. What initially led me here was curiosity and the search for a different method or experience to help me find clarity. What I remember the most about that first experience was talking to Hardy Patel just before I went into the tank and he said something like - you may come here looking for something and walk away receiving something else -floating will give you what you need. Shortly after an orientation, I was guided to my float suite where you first put in some earplugs and take a shower. After which I stepped into the small door of the tank. I shut the door, hit the lights and steadied my body in the tank as the water settled. The water is body temperature and filled with Epson salts that keep your body afloat. Each session is about 90 minutes. The first time I floated it took about 30 minutes just to fully adjust to the experience. In the complete silence you can hear a lot of the functions happening inside your body. I could hear my breathing, my heart beat and the sounds of digestion which at first was distracting and then I just kind of settled into the awareness of it all. I didn't really know what I needed but what I found in that first float was stillness. There was just so much noise inside my mind and in the world I was experiencing. I tried for years to mediate and just never got through the mental chatter fully. Over time I noticed floating allowed me to consistently experience this stillness which for me was a game changer. This stillness I experience is right in the same zone as where I find my creative inspiration, but on a deeper level. The best way for me to describe the stillness is like when you take a step back from solving a problem and you have that moment where everything seems to stop just before you experience the eureka moment. For me it is a mental place that stages the ground in my daily life to open up to and follow my intuitive lead. I couldn't think of a better time to re-explore this dimension, especially living in our current reality where sometimes the speed and overload of information can make it easy to get lost. This weeks float was like riding a bike. At first I was clumsy but I found my way back to the stillness and it felt like exactly what I needed. After you float at the Float Place, there is a room you can go to relax and reflect on the experience. I feel like this part of the experience is as important as the float itself. For me, this is where inspiration and/or insight unfolds. I've been in that room several times accompanied by other people who also have just floated and/or staff members and every time I felt at peace and safe. There is this complete release of insecurity and defensive boundary. You just feel the connection with others which is a great experience to feel and share. For me the therapeutic benefits are very worthwhile. My friend and I had our first 90 minute float a few days ago and I'm still feeling the positive effects. Valentina greeted us at check-in, and we felt instantly welcomed and comfortable. After watching an introductory video, Hardy took us in the back and showed us around the various amenities (I'm interested in trying the infrared sauna!), then we were each given our own private rooms. The shower and changing areas for each were bright, clean, and tranquil, and the flotation rooms themselves were comfortable and blissfully silent. I spent my first session exploring the sensations and getting used to how floating feels, and I'm sure my next session will provide a deeper meditative experience. I live with several chronic pain conditions and I can already feel the benefits, I highly recommend that anyone curious about floating give it a try! read more

I don't know, I was so excited for this, took (literal) years to book an appointment, and today I finally went. The reception, chill room, and every other part of the place was clean & welcoming. But the actual float room smelt like feet, saw some pretty obvious mold in places. Staff was nice but the float part was not my cup of tea. Do they ever change that water??? I get that salt is antibacterial but.... Na, skeevy. They need some essential oils in there or something. Really unpleasant. I floated about an hour, didn't find any benefit, still anxious, maybe my back is less tense. But the more annoying part was i had a gift card that said GOOD FOR ONE FLOAT! and i had to pay extra..? Like. It says right on the card, 1 float, no stipulations. I don't recommend. read more

To start; I need to explain that I am NOT one of those "wholistic, navel gazing, kumbayah guitar strumming, tree hugging nimrods trying to get in touch with my inner chakras. But I like to give a fair review, regardless of my personal tastes..... So taking that into account, this place is scrupulously clean, the staff are really nice, and took their time explaining the process (shower, wash, float, shower, chillax in front room). Me personally, I didn't really dig the whole "sensory deprivation" thing; but it's no reflection on them, it's me, lol. They had good product for the shower; body wash, conditioner, as well as offering a relaxation area after that had teas, waters, books etc. I did think it was maybe a "little" pricey ($160 for two 90 minute sessions) but if you're into this kind of thing, or want to try something like this out, it's well worth it. read more

I go about once a month and it's always a great experience. The facility is spotless and the staff is really friendly and chill. I have a physically taxing job and get aches and pains. The float resets my mind and body. I usually fall asleep and get the best nap ever lol read more

My sister actually bought my mom and I an hour at the float place - we easily reserved an appointment online with ease and once we were there we were greeted by a friendly receptionist. I think our tour guide's name was Tim. He was super friendly and seemed excited about his job- he gave a Thur Pugh explanation of what we should expect and prepared us for what to do. The experience was interesting and the first time around I was slightly restless towards the end. By the time I had showered and blown out my hair ( btw they provide absolutely anything you'd need as far as bathing supplies) my mom was already finished - she had left the float early because she was also restless which is normal and natural for your first float according to tim. All in all it was a good time - little on the expensive side but definitely worth trying at least once. read more

A first time floater here who is soon to be a repeater! This was an amazing experience. From the moment you walk in the calm washes over you. I wasn't sure if I would be able to fully relax once I was laying down in the warm salty water in complete darkness but boy was I wrong. Next thing I knew I was being gently woken up by chirping bird feeling completely relaxed and my sore muscle relieved. After my tea in the relaxation room, I knew I had to book another session! Today was my first time floating. I was unsure of what to expect beforehand and was actually a little nervous. When I arrived at the Float Place I was greeted by Sam, who was so cool and helpful! She explained everything in detail to me and went over everything multiple times and answered any questions I had. As for the float, it was a very interesting experience that I actually really liked. Since it was my first time and I wasn't used to the environment and the zero gravity experience, I felt like it was hard for me to get really relaxed and in a meditative state. I definitely did feel very relaxed after I got out of the tank. My mood was boosted and my body felt great! After you float you go into a room that gives you a chance to relax for a bit. They have interesting books to read and provide tea and water to drink. The energy of this place is so great! I'm coming back again and I feel like my next experience will be even better! read more

Floating has changed my life! I am so glad that Hardy chose to open a new Float Place in Patchogue! The new location shows a lot of promise, eventually offering five float rooms in the heart of downtown Patchogue. I would consider my lifestyle to be somewhat intense, so it's not surprising that I'm not the best at working in time to relax and reflect. Floating allows me to find that time through some much needed meditation. Although people seem to be put off by the concept of "Sensory Deprivation" (and admittedly Floating is not for everyone), when embraced, Floatation Therapy has incredible benefits (i.e. Stress management, improved concentration, treatment of chronic pain, etc.) read more

As soon as you step into their facility, you feel welcomed. I go to the Patchogue location and the staff is amazing. They are friendly and very calming. The place is immaculately clean and there is an immediate experience of peace when you walk in. Regarding the floating experience, it is a 90 minute vacation from the external world. It is an incredible opportunity to look totally inward. This may feel different initially, but I promise you, floating is a way to a more peaceful and creative life. Floating provides the opportunity to find a lasting sense of peace and experience the simple pleasure of being in your body. I've been floating for close to two years now and I can say that each time it gets better and better. Each time I float, I walk out feeling like I've been on a weeks vacation. I feel rested and peaceful, ready to handle the stresses of my life. Floating is like rebooting a computer. It resets the body and mind. It enables you to start anew. As I step into the float room, I know I am doing something important for myself. When I first step in and lie down in the water, I am tense. I feel where I am holding onto stress. I was interested in trying this for a long time. I've been stressed so I booked a float recently. Nice staff. The moment I entered my room I felt like it was incredibly stuffy and had no air circulation. (the changing area). I am really sensitive to smells and either the body wash or shampoo had this coconut smell that I really just couldn't stand. And it kind of turned my stomach. The float tank itself was also stuffy and I was having trouble feeling like I was getting enough air and had to open the door to get some "fresh air" in. (but since the outside shower/changing area was also stuffy i didn't get the air I wanted). I got very restless 40 minutes in. That plus the air thing made me feel like I just needed to get out. I got out and was really dizzy and "seasick." There was only 1 towel so I had to share that between my body and my hair. I had that terrible coconut smell on me and it made me feel worse. (I really like coconut to eat but something about this smell just got to me). I briefly went to the recovery room but the smells of the whole place plus the coconut were turning my stomach and made it hard for me to breathe. I just wanted fresh air so I left pretty quickly. I went home and vomited a lot. I felt wonky the next day even. Tips for the management: It's supposed to be sensory deprivation so try to not have scented body washes and shampoos. It definitely overloaded my senses. Try to get more air circulation going on. I think if those two things were fixed I'd have had a better experience. I'm really weird about smells in my daily life. I get bad reactions from overpowering smells.( Like headaches, dizziness, and nausea) The seasick thing I can't blame on anyone but myself lol read more

I've been going to the float place about once a week since May. I can't speak highly enough about floating. It forces my mind and body to be still and re-set itself when other methods have never been able to so. The tubs are large and I've never felt claustrophobic. This was a new experience. Drove by and decided to give it a try . Reservations needed . Very clean and relaxing environment. Staff was very friendly and informative. Very private , individual experience . The float itself was interesting, very calming I think I fell asleep . Definitely use the bathroom before and eat something light so you don't get hungry. I felt refreshed after and they provide toiletries to use when you shower after. After you shower and dress they have a quiet lounge to have some water or tea and relax before you leave . I LOVE THIS PLACE. I'm not a person who normally gravitates toward the stereotypical "spa" environment, yet I have found floating to be extremely helpful in slowing down, tuning out the constant barrage of tech devices and the demands of the rush of daily life, and truly relaxing. I work in healthcare and am constantly pulled in myriad directions; the stress can be tremendous. My sister suggested floating to decompress and to alleviate the musculoskeletal pain I get from emotional tension, running all day, lifting patients, and standing and staring at a computer screen for hours on end (ugh to the computer!) The Float Place environment is immaculate and welcoming. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. Hardy, Tim and staff are incredibly kind and want clients to gain maximum benefits from the float experience. I went once last year and did not really see how it could benefit me. Then this year I went four times in a three week span and found the path for my own personal float journey. It really does take more than one float to reap benefits. And consistence is key as well. I am still no expert but here are some tips/notes I have found helpful if you choose to try this: *Fill out your waiver on line ahead of your float, one less thing to do on site. * Go 15 minutes early before your first float for your orientation. The awesome staff will walk you through everything and answer any questions you have. *When you first get in the tank, your thoughts may race and you may have trouble tuning them out. Try to focus instead on your breathing. And breathe like you are a RELAXED PERSON! (Fake it till you make it.) *Preferred floating positions are unique to each person, but for me, I found if the palms of my hands faced down my arms floated in a weird disjointed way and it bothered my shoulders. I now float palms up, and whether my arms are down, up, or out sideways, it doesn't matter. My shoulders stay relaxed, and I can breathe more deeply. *I definitely avoid caffeine for at least 6 hours prior to floating. I would suggest other stimulants, like nicotine, should likewise be avoided before a float. *The post- float room is there for a reason. Use it. It takes a bit of time to get "back into the swing " of life, like DRIVING ON LI after the relaxing balm of floating has been imparted to you. (Don't forget, many awesome restaurants are within walking distance of this place, so take advantage!) *Even if you plan a post float meal, don't enter the tank hungry. I once hadn't eaten for several hours, then all I focused on in the tank was how hungry I was lol. *Turn off your phone before floating. Leave it off for awhile after floating. You will survive. *Try to do a few floats within a month or so. You will learn for sure if this is for you or not. There is a membership special currently that offers 3 free floats to members, so please check it out. * A reviewer mentioned the environment being "stuffy". There is appropriate air and water circulation in each room, however, the float room environments are closely controlled to promote the benefits of floating. Temperature and sound control are key to reap the rewards of this experience. And the changing area serves as a kind of buffer between the float room and the hallway. So, yes, the air is a bit salty and there is coconut body wash and shampoo to maintain the proper pH of the water. This may irritate some who are sensitive to smells, as the reviewer mentioned. My sister who loves this place is sensitive to smells too, but she is not adversely affected by the environment here. Hope that anyone who reads this will give floating a try. Most life changing experience ever ! My gift cards were about to expire and Tim gave me a call to remind me to schedule an appointment... after booking one and having to make a last minute cancellation due to personal reasons Tim was happily there for me and booked another day. I would recommend this place to anyone undergoing stress and anxiety. I booked a float last minute Sunday morning after a hellish work week that followed a major move back to LI from the city. Such a great experience from start to finish. I was able to book online, the staff were SO incredibly friendly, knowledgeable, and thorough in the explanation of the "orientation"process, the place was super clean and the float itself exceeded my expectations in terms of degree of relaxation I was able to achieve. And, there's a small room to rest/collect yourself before getting back out to the world, which I wouldn't have even considered myself, but it was a nice way way to transition back to reality. My only regret was that I didn't take advantage of the beginner's package before I left - I was still so zoned out I turned it down even though I know I'll be back. I highly recommend for anyone looking for a deep relaxation experience and willing to get a little out of their comfort zone to make that happen. read more

So of course today I had a 2 o'clock appointment at the float Place for my third time and I always bring my service animal Aries and leave there tied up to the bench ,"just incase nobody ever ever complains everybody loves him there's no issue until today with the owner Harley happened to be there and which is mind-boggling because he knew the whole story about Aries and then I found out bad news yesterday and I bought him a pastry and he gladly excepted and so forth and so on and literally after I got done out of the shower he knocked and I'm like yeah and he's like oh what are you going to do an Aries well talk about it afterwords "enjoy" ur float what are you gonna do an Aries and like excuse me and Iv been here three ,this is my third time now all of a sudden it's an issue if he stays alone even though he's tied to the bench I've been beyond amazing and sweet and nice and civil to everybody or for them snacks and food bring them things every time to be nice and kind and generous because it's such a phenomenal experience the refuse for them to break the law and disrespect me after the third time which makes no sense highly unrecommended I am beyond dissatisfied and feel so discriminated against Service dog discrimination is intolerable any Illegal read more
