We stopped in to check out some carpet options for our baby nursery. They have a big selection beyond the standard designs & materials, at really decent prices. There was a big 4th of July sale going on when we visited, so might be worth waiting til there's a holiday sale to get the best deal on a big project. Besides carpet, they have tons of tile and wood flooring options too. The staff are helpful and knowledgeable, and can whip up a quote on the spot (with installation too). This review should have been done 8 months ago but better late than never. This store was recommended to us. First it seemed that they have knowledgeable staff and management. Once the work started, I noticed a huge difference between the actual size of my floors vs what they guesstimated. When the material for wood floors were delivered and after the work was finished, I still saw a huge difference. I protested, they actually pushed back instead admitting their mistake. To add injury to insult, the installer work was of low quality. We still have a spot were the leveling was missed and the floor gives a lot. When the carpet was installed, you would feel the nails sticking up once you walk on it and injured a foot. Overall, I would not do business with them anymore and do not recommend their store. They are also not the lowest or close to lowest price even with their sale prices. read more

The team here was great. We good a good deal on a quality carpet with a special fit needed in one room. We were also up against a deadline. There was a little mishap which was both our doing, and this could have set us back. Tarik was responsive, took action, was compelled to get it right. He worked with his team to get it done. We were looking for replacing the carpet with tiles on almost 700 sq. ft. We had visited 2 or 3 stores before The Floor Store and every time we went out with an uneasy feeling. When we enter the Store, Kevin helped us and it was immediately clear that he was competent and able to understand our wishes without being pushy and giving us all the time to choose and giving us "non-binding" suggestions. It was great. We immediately decided to go with them. Everything else went very smooth. He helped us in selecting the proper grouting and come measuring the rooms. I gave him a slightly larger footage so, already there, he saved some money for us... and the installation team (led by Anders) has been just perfect solving few small problem on the spot without surprises in the price. The customer service at The Floor Store is excellent! We purchased and had Karastan carpet installed by them in our townhouse in 2017. Over time the carpet had stretched and buckeled in a couple locations. When I contacted them they were on it! If you want a good customer service experience go somewhere else. If you want good communication and want to feel like a valued customer go somewhere else. If you want a smooth installation experience and some level of accountability go somewhere else. I am a repeat customer. I had The Floor Store carpet my home - had a few hiccups but nothing to warrant making a big deal about it (although I still have not heard back about removing the glue they left on my carpet after I complained) - the installers were good and accountable although in hindsight I can see where they were a little sloppy. When I wanted to carpet my office The Floor Store was my first choice. Decent price and decent selection. And they guaranteed carpet would be installed before my move in date - So all yes's. It's after carpet installation when things got really messy. After install I realized they did a pretty sloppy job - with bear patches and shredding. Not to mention a seem running through the middle of my main floor. I contacted my sales person immediately who was very slow to respond. I finally get someone out to look at the job and we agree on a date for them to come back and fix it the following week. They don't show, they don't call. I call the contact they don't call back. I contact my sales person they don't call back. I text the installer, they can't call back. I leave a message with the sales person saying if you don't set up an appt for next week I am contacting my credit card company and contesting the payment and will leave a bad Yelp review. And magically I get an appt. The day of appt a person shows up at my office having no idea what to do and why they are there. I call the installer contact who is grumpy and says he is on his way. I call my sales person and complain about the bad customer service. Several days later I get an email apologizing and asking if there is anything they can do to make this right. I say I want a discount on my install. That was a week ago... still have not heard back. My advise if you want piece of mind shop around... read more

The first time I visited The Floor Store, Richmond, I was interested in purchasing wood-like laminate flooring for several rooms, and a long hallway in my home. My stay was brief, but long enough to know I did not need to explore any other options. The employees I spoke to were friendly, patient, and extremely knowledgeable about the numerous products sold in the store. When I finally selected my flooring, David, the store manager, helped me begin the purchasing process. Later, when I decided to purchase carpet for 2 bedrooms in my home, I went to "The Floor Store" in another city. I purchased carpet from the store, but I must say, regrettably, my experience at that store did not compare with my experience at The Floor Store, Richmond. My floor suffered extreme water damage due to a burst pipe in a bathroom so ending up installing new hardwood flooring for the whole house. Requested 3 quotes and decided on The Floor Store. I prefer South American hardwood so ended up with special order that took almost 3 months to arrive. When my husband and I purchased our new home, I checked yelp for a good place for carpeting. We went to The Floor Store in Richmond and had a great experience. Vicky was very helpful in getting us acquainted with what was available, what would be best for our lifestyle, and what would suit our budget. Of course, we instantly fell in love with a carpet waaaay outside our price range. Vicky was able to help us pick out a great, super comfy, more budget friendly alternative that we could use upstairs allowing us room in the budget to get the expensive, ultra-amazing-wonderful carpet downstairs in the main living areas. An excellent compromise! We have been very pleased with the decision and the 2 carpets blend beautifully together. On the day of installation, the crew leader said that they were planning to get as much done as possible that day and would return the following to complete the project. I let him know that I was under the impression that it was just a 1 day job and our movers would be there at 9am the following day. He was very kind and said he would make it work. We looked at many flooring stores before we found Rick Button at The Floor Store (between Int 5 and 805 on Central Ave) in Albany. He "got" that we did not want the "latest" tile/stone kitchen floor in a 100-year old house with an old-style, actively used kitchen. He showed us the right vinyl to complement the real-wood cabinets and walked us through each element of the cost estimate, explaining options that might save us money. Next came exact, on-site measurements of our oddly shaped kitchen: many doors, an island, and appliances that are difficult to move. Our fabulous installers, Eduardo and Danny, expertly moved the appliances, replaced the underfloor (which had hidden water damage) and unrolled the gigantic piece of vinyl--they had to cut it in the driveway and carry it upstairs! By the end of the day we had the look we wanted at a price just UNDER the original estimate! These folks know their business and we're so glad we found them. read more

We had multiple bids on a flooring project for kitchen and family room and decided to go with the FloorStore. This was also part of a larger kitchen remodel involving multiple contractors. I'm pleased to say that they excelled throughout the process. David provided good communication to stay in touch with me and be ready for the point at which we needed floors removed, and then later in the project to have the new floor installed. We have Brazilian Cherry real hardwood throughout the house, but decided in the kitchen family room to go with Armstrong Alterna Reserve Luxury Vinyl Tile with a grout. The installer was Andreas and Jorge. I cannot say enough good things about them both. I was very confident in their skill level, and it was clear they desired to have a top notch install as the outcome. They showed pride in their work. On the day of the floor install we also had a representative from the Floor Store arrive just to make sure all material was okay. We had one issue with the baseboards, but David got that resolved without issue. The outcome if great, we are very pleased with the customer service and skill of the installers. I would highly recommend the Floor Store as a top of the list supplier for any flooring need. (As for the Armstrong Alterna Reserve...we love it. Everyone comes in thinking we put in stone tiles, but comments they feel comfortable to walk on. Very nice product and very practical for kitchen/family room.) read more

I was there on Sat and was working with Brain. He was extremely helpful and a great person to work with. Then I came back the next day to finalized things before making a final decision. This review is actually coming about six years late, as our first carpet was installed by the Floor Store back then. That story: everything was fantastic, but after the installer left I noticed a small grease stain on the carpet. I called the store, and the salesperson came personally with some cleaner and took care of it the same day. Wow. Fast forward six years: After such excellent service I decided to go back to the Floor Store to replace the carpet that has now been ravaged by our cat. Kevin was very helpful but not overbearing, offering great advice for installing new carpet in our home which is now a rental. What a fantastic store. Our sales guy David was super helpful and explained all about the carpet that we expressed an interest in. Even though ti wasn't the super high-end and was only $2.99 a sq foot installed, he answered all of our questions and concerns about it. He also upgraded us the the thicker pad, which feels great under our feet. After we ordered he had Lauren come out and take the measurements of our room, super nice and professional. We were then able to schedule the install for that Saturday. Saturday rolls around, the Floor Store calls and says the guys can come early if we are ready, which we were, they came, 2 guys, who did an amazing job laying the carpet. It looks fantastic. My fiancee and I have been remodeling our kitchen on our own. For whatever reason, we seemed to overlook re-doing the floors, probably because we thought we could do it at the end. A day or so before we were about to install our cabinets, we realized it made more sense to do the floors before we did so. Needless to say, we were nervous about how long they would take and how much it would delay our schedule. We didn't have a sink at the time and wanted to get those cabinets in! We visited a place in Oakland to look at cheap and quick floating floors and weren't that impressed. The next day I called Danny at the Floor Store and he quoted me a great price on ceramic tiles over the phone, and said they could install them the same week. We assumed ceramic tiles would be expensive to install, but not at all! I did a lot of research on other installers, and the Floor Store price was better than all of them, and was also the only one that could do an install sooner than two or three weeks out. We went into the store and Danny remembered me from the phone immediately. He showed us some tiles, then left us alone to compare and contrast, checking in every once in a while to make sure we were okay. He helped talk us through our final decision and made a great suggestion on a grout color. We had an installer out two days later and beautiful new tile floors by the end of the week. They look great and we're so happy that we found Danny and the Floor Store. I highly recommend them to anyone looking to do tile floors. read more

Went to the floor store looking for flooring for our new house (our first!). We didn't know for sure what we wanted, but had a budget to stick to. We spoke to Kevin & he was such a big help. This business is really wonderful. They know their stuff, and they really care about their customers. I have a friend who's disabled and on a very limited income. She had severe pet damage to her oak flooring, which left it buckled in many places. I knew she needed to get the floors replaced before she tripped on the uneven surface. The new flooring needed to be something she could more easily care for, too. I explained the situation to four different flooring stores, three big ones and one small. I got bids for the lowest each could go for a no frills vinyl floor to get this woman into a better situation. The Floor Store was the first bid I got. The woman who came out to measure the area really took time with me. She even told me what prep work I could do so that the cost for labor would be as little as possible. When I got the other bids I told them that that specific prep work would be finished by me before they did the job, so I was definitely comparing apples to apples. The Floor Store bid was about a third of the price of the other big companies, and half the price of the small one. The vinyl floor they put in looks great, too. The guys installing it were really efficient, and they went out of their way to make the installation as easy on my friend as possible. Every person I dealt with at The Floor Store was wonderful. It was obvious that everyone had talked about my friend's situation, and they were all doing their best to help her out. I was so impressed with the hearts of the people there, and of course with the wonderful job they did for my friend. Tarik was patient and understanding as we navigated what we were wanting and could afford to do in a whole house flooring project that we were looking at while still living in our home. After experiencing a slight delay in material shipping, Tarik and the Install Manager Rocky, were amazing in getting our project started and finished within our original timeline despite the brief shipping delay. we got our floor for my entire house here and could not be happier with the quality. However, occasionally they can be difficult to deal with, and more often than not, you're not comfortable asking as many questions as you'd like. its a hit miss here. i've gotten 5 star service and 2 star service depending on who's at the counter. but price-wise, this place is pretty cool. i recommend laminate flooring. looks and feels like the real thing for 1/2 to 1/4 the price. and lasts longer plus you can do it yourself. no brainer. read more

It is SUPER ANNOYING, though, that when you ask any question, the first thing they say is, "Who have you been working with?" I mean, really? Just because John Doe checked out samples to me last month, nobody else is allowed to TALK to me? Nobody is allowed to answer a question? Like, seriously, there are four people standing there doing nothing, and you are going to make me wait ten minutes, until John Doe gets off the phone and finishes his paperwork, before I can get a PRICE on something? read more

Finally got the carpet in, so thought I'd share a photo. My husband installed the vinyl (Mannington Adura Max planks in Napa Tannin color), and Floor Store installers did the carpet. Not totally sure this is right to identify the carpet, "refined fascination Abac Weldlok Nautical." The carpet is a richer teal than shown in the photo, and the floor is browner. Both look SO elegant! Installers offered to do threshold strip but we wanted it even to the flooring. Woo hoo! read more
