Was passing through so we decided to go to this place. Since I love breakfast and it was my birthday trip up north we stopped. This is the first place I went to that had the best paper straw. All the other local places had crappy straws. Staff was friendly our server was very happy. I have the chorizo tacos and loved them wife had bacon eggs grits biscuits. First time trying this cafe and it was so filling!! The iced chai latte was one of the best ones I've had, I'd definitely come back for it. I ordered the chorizo hash which had enough for a second snack later on. I really liked the green sauce in the chorizo which gave the dish a sour savory taste. I popped in at 7:50am on a Saturday for a to go order. There was no line and I was able to order quickly at the bar. The bartender was super professional and helpful. Everyone was in a good mood, especially me when I received my double espresso. They use Royal Cup espresso which I'm not familiar with. My double espresso was pretty huge actually. It might have been a quad! As I always do, I like to try a new coffee as pure espresso, no sugar, no cream, nothing but pure espresso. This beverage was safe and unremarkable but not over roasted thankfully. I would drink it again. I really just wanted grits and one egg over medium but I went all out and ordered a eggs/bacon/biscuit/grits breakfast. It came out in only 10 minutes but I wasn't in a hurry anyway. I love southern cooking especially for a Sunday brunch so enter The Flying Biscuit. Was our first time here and it lived up to the hype! I had the Southern scramble with cheese grits and a biscuit with apple butter...yum. My wife ordered fried green tomatoes and more yummy grits. We were so full when we left and happy! Have tried this restaurant many times over the last 10? years... It's always very crowded (and loud), so if you go, expect to talk a bit over the crowd and your server having to juggle many tables. It's crowded, in my opinion, because Gainesville has so few restaurants to enjoy for breakfast or lunch. The food here is heavily salted and generally ok. Coffee is good and is refilled at a rate of how busy your server happens to be. I have concerns over cleanliness and food safety. Best example: On my last visit, a person at our table got a wide eyed expression, stopped eating, and showed us his burger. A long hair had been cooked inside. We brought this to the server's attention. The restaurants way of handling this was to offer 50% off of the burger, since he could still eat the side. read more

This one is in a nice little shopping plaza, so parking is plentiful. Service in the morning was rough - seemed like they were not ready to get the morning started. I had ordered out from this restaurant before, but this morning marks my first dine-in visit. What a treat this place is! Everything was wonderful, from the ambience of the restaurant and decor to the delicious food. I had an unstuffed French toast, and the sauces that accompanied the French toast were delicious. The honey vanilla glaze was magnificent, and the fruit sauce was wonderful as well. Although my potatoes were a little too salty for me, they were still yummy. My husband ordered the pancakes and shared his eggs and bacon. I was very impressed with the cheese eggs, and the bacon was equally delicious. Our server was very professional and attentive. When you ask people about the best breakfast/brunch spots in Gainesville, Flying Biscuit always comes up. I tried it out on a Saturday morning and there was already a line formed when we arrived but we got in within 15 minutes or so. I ordered the hot chicken and waffle and the pimento cheese fritters. The chicken was tough and there could have been more of the hot sauce so that the waffle was not so dry. The pimento cheese fritters were pretty good but the spicy aioli dipping sauce had a strange plastic flavor. Flying Biscuit has a MASSIVE menu with so many items that sounded good - it was hard to choose. While my first experience wasn't the greatest, I will check out Flying Biscuit again and hope for a better outcome. read more

Wow this place is amazing! It is bright and colorful which will wake you up on its own. The staff was super friendly. We ordered breakfast and it came in lightning speed. I got the hash and it was amazing. It came with potatoes, sausage, chrorizo, and eggs. This flavors were amazing. I usually put hot sauce on potatoes. They had some on the table. I was so happy I tasted it before putting on the sauce. There was so much flavor. It also comes with a biscuit and fresh made strawberry jelly. One of the best breakfasts in Gainesville. Their biscuits are my favorite in town and I have heard the grits are amazing (even though I'm not a grits person in general). Everything here is very good. I really like their eggs in omelette or scrambles. The inside is a little loud if it full but workers are super nice and the restaurant is clean. Come for a unique southern breakfast that leave you full but not feeling icky or greasy the rest of the day. Definitely a different menu than you will find at other breakfast spots. Can we do six and four near each other. Can't guarantee that? We got there and asked to be seated. The entire party has to be here. But we aren't sitting together? Always a popular breakfast spot in Gainesville. I usually get a sledgehammer (coffee with 4 shots of espresso) and a bacon and egg breakfast. It comes with grits and a biscuit. The grits are so fluffy and delicious, the best I've had, and the biscuit is brushed with sugar. I often go just to get the biscuits. It does get busy on weekends and the wait time can be pretty long. You can always keep an eye on the bar and seat yourself if a spot becomes available. read more

We wanted some breakfast before leaving to go back home and chose flying biscuit cafe. We were sat immediately on a Thursday morning around 10AM. Coffee was great and they have a variety of syrups to add flavor to it. My boyfriend got the southern scramble and I had some pancakes. Both were delicious. I got to try some grits too, and I'm very picky about them but these were some of the best grits I've ever had! Our server was very attentive and patient with me as I couldn't decide on what to eat. It had a very homey feel to the restaurant. We'll definitely be back if we catch ourselves back in Gainesville. read more

I have tried numerous times to order to go and it's a definite no go. Each tune the food is cold, I'm not sure how they store the food prior to pick up and they may need to try a different container, either way the food is always cold. I have been missing items each time as well. Today was the last straw, I specifically ordered chicken sausage and received cold turkey bacon that was too tough to even attempt to eat, and on top of cold food I couldn't even eat it. We had to buy apple butter because the last two visits we were told they didn't have anymore. The only thing I got good out the meal was a jar of apple butter but nothing to enjoy with it. read more

A group of us went for brunch and we were not disappointed. I think the majority of us had the The Flying Biscuit Breakfast (2 eggs, 2 sage chicken sausage patties, award winning cheese grits, and a biscuit). LOVED. such a simple breakfast but SO delicious. Every table has cranberry-apple butter to put on your biscuits. Just do it. Thank me later. Another person in the group had the shrimp and grits and said it was awesome. Shrimp was well seasoned. A few folks had a scramble and one had the sunshine waffle. Not one person complained about their food. SO GOOD. I think all but one person finished their meals entirely. We're visiting Gainesville for the weekend and were excited to have breakfast here after eating at Flying Biscuit previously in Midtown Atlanta and having a great experience. Knowing the waits get long, we decided to try the call ahead wait list. Spent 15 minutes listening to the dial tone before the call was disconnected. Called back, someone immediately picks up and says "Flying Biscuit, please hold". Sat on the line another 15 minutes in silence before hanging up. Just turn off the call ahead if you don't want people to do it. I could've driven there in half the time instead of wasting it on hold. We'll go somewhere else. read more

A friend who used to live in Gainesville years ago, recommended that we have breakfast at the Flying Biscuit Cafe. We were surprised how awful the food was. Maybe it used to be good when he lived there, but most of the food ordered by our party of 4 was inedible. The eggs tasted terrible. None of us were able to eat them. Coffee was bitter/acidic so it took quite a bit of cream to soften that punch. I normally love grits, but I could not manage to force down more than a few bites of the grits that came with my meal. There were some slices of toast brought to the table that cold and hard like croutons. The biscuit that came with my husband's meal was good, and the bacon was ok. Service was just ok, no one was rude, but also not very friendly or welcoming either. Just sort of robotic. Yummmmmmmmmm! A huge selection on the menu and wonderful, attentive staff. The avocado toast is the best I've ever had. Comes with goat cheese crumbles and diced tomatoes . Mouth watering. I also got the butterscotch latte , it was served in one of those very wide mouth cups so it became cold fast. But was very tasty. Be prepared to wait at least 30 minutes for a seat but it's well worth it !!!! read more
