We finally made it here for a meal. We tried a couple times, but the lines were too long. Coming back from our mid-week weekend in Tallahassee, we whipped in to have a later lunch. My wife and daughter ordered the very berry salad and the Caesar Saladian was disappointed they didn't offer one, so she got chicken strips. I ordered the wake up burger. We ordered an appetizer of fried green tomatoes, however our meal was delivered and still no appetizer. They acknowledged the mistake and rushed one out to us -- but apparently they rushed it so much the green tomatoes turned pink. They were NOT green tomatoes. Regardless, it wasn't very good and it came after 3/4 of our table was done with their meal. My daughter thought the chicken on her salad was a bit dry. My burger was decent and the girls were a little thrown by the sugar topping on the biscuits. The Caesar Saladian also wanted some jelly or something to put on her biscuit, but the waitress (Maris) never came back so she ate it dry. Overall, a very disappointing experience. A friend who used to live in Gainesville years ago, recommended that we have breakfast at the Flying Biscuit Cafe. We were surprised how awful the food was. Maybe it used to be good when he lived there, but most of the food ordered by our party of 4 was inedible. The eggs tasted terrible. None of us were able to eat them. Coffee was bitter/acidic so it took quite a bit of cream to soften that punch. I normally love grits, but I could not manage to force down more than a few bites of the grits that came with my meal. There were some slices of toast brought to the table that cold and hard like croutons. The biscuit that came with my husband's meal was good, and the bacon was ok. Service was just ok, no one was rude, but also not very friendly or welcoming either. Just sort of robotic. There were other tables of people who seemed to be enjoying their meals, so I don't know why ours was so bad. read more

Service was great and atmosphere was great. They use a lot of sage, I think. You can smell it very strongly. Not the smell I was expecting in the restaurant. I had the cheesy patty melt and it was odd. I love patty melts and opted for this instead of my normal brunch choices. I wouldn't order it again. The cheesy grits were delicious! The potatoes had dust on them and I'm pretty sure it was sage. My husband had the freebird and it was good but he try another option if given the choice. Brunch is a treat for us and since both of us were not wow-ed by our choices we would pick somewhere else if passing through this area again. P.S. I like sage I have just never smelled so much of a strong scent that overpowered the smell of biscuits and bacon. read more

Flying biscuit is just good food that will make your heart smile. Pro tip: get there early (like 8-9am early); or clear your morning schedule because they get busy busy busy. Waits can get upwards of 45 mins just to get seated. Also, try to keep your party to 6 people AT MOST because it is a smaller location, so big parties might have difficulty getting seated. But, if there is a breakfast spot in Gainesville, that is worth the wait, it's flying biscuit. Do yourself a favor and get yourself a pancake and at least one biscuit. Then get whatever you want from the menu because it is all wonderful. My fiancé adores this restaurant and for good reason. The servers are always friendly and accommodating. The orders are always right and fast and the food is always delicious. Top bins, top marks, 5 stars, 2 thumbs up! However you want to rate it..it doesn't matter. Flying biscuit is it. read more

Snobby folks and slow service. Got seated in 1/5 full restaurant way in the back and waited 6 full minutes with no service so I got up and left with no goodbye or acknowledgment from the staff. I think it's what they wanted to happen rather than serve someone that looks like me. Can't comment on the food cause never tried it. Just be nice and provide professional exceptional customer to all patrons and quit being snobby jerks. read more

Breakfast review Ordered the stuffed French toast $14 plate with the eggs and sausage. I can say it was BUSSIN! Condensed milk was a bit too much for the French toast and it wasn't stuffed at all it was just placed between the two slices of French toast. Other than that the eggs were fried to perfection along with the best tasting grits I've ever had. I'm not even a grits kinda guy but this was good! I couldn't finish it all so I saved it for the next day. It tasted even better a day later after warning it up in the microwave. Biscuits were pretty good too. Mmmmm mmmm mmmm .. That was something. Crab cake egg " Benedict " . Thats totally of the league. Crab cakes i guess good but egg " Benedict " are not Benedict but on pan fried over easy made egg. Nothing to do with egg Benedict. I selected potato's with that and still cant process what was that. Tasted like 2 days old, dried , tired potato's with some seasoning ( they said rosemary ) but most likely some turkey seasoning. It just kill it over kill any taste. Salty. This place is absolutely amazing. I'd say it's one of Gainesville's little "gems". It has this super cool atmosphere that makes you feel at home. I came then for lunch so I got the Biscuit Pot Pie, they do have breakfast all day though. The biscuits there are also a must to get, they are so warm and flaky and come with this delicious homemade apple butter. The pot pie came with two large biscuits over top a thick and creamy pot pie filling, it was heaven. I ended up eating practically the entire thing! What a gem! We had visited Gainesvulle to ride the bike trail, and found this little gem on Trip Advisor. Being a weekday, it was practically empty. This place is firing on all cylinders...taste, great service, cleanliness. The flavors are totally unique, and the prices are great. The waiter told me we can't leave without tasting their grits, and brought us a little side cup of them. OMG!!! Their biscuits are to die for; they were fresh, hot, and fluffy, with a side of homemade cranberry apple butter. All around impressed! We arrived around 3pm on a Saturday, which by itself is awesome because so many breakfast places close by 2p and were happy to find they are open till 4p and currently no wait. Lucy was the most informative, approachable, and friendly wait staff I think I've ever met! When we asked her about vegan options, she described to my daughter in detail all the dishes that could easily be made vegan... huge plus that there were so many options and another huge plus that she did not seem put out at all by the request. Vegan kid went with the Tofu Scramble with a side of fruit and while wheat toast instead of the biscuit. As a meat eater, I was blown away at how good it was! I literally took a bite then sat in awe for a second. Little man had the scrambled egg with turkey bacon and potatoes. The moon dust potatoes were okay, the seasoning was good but the way they were cooked was off, can't put my finger on what exactly. I ordered the Crab Cake Benedict and was very happy. At first I thought the crab cake itself should have been browned just a tad more to make it more like a "cake" instead of just a mound of crab, but it was so flavorful that I kinda liked how easy it was to fork because it wasn't overly cake-like. My eggs were perfectly cooked on top with the perfect dusting of seasoning. Definitely would order it again! Strangely, I wasn't gushing over the biscuits or the grits, which seems to be what everyone else loves. Don't get me wrong, they were really good, jus not my favorite part, more like great supporting cast. It was almost like the grits were too creamy, I like mine a little more grit-like with butter not so much cream cheese. And the biscuits were good, but I think I prefer a more flaky-buttery layers type. As for drinks, the OJ was pretty blah, the cold brew coffee was just okay (no simple syrup, only flavored creamers to sweeten with), but Vegan kid was excited they had soy milk for the Iced Chai, which was delish! This Thanksgiving, my husband and I road-tripped through Gainesville. As he lived in Atlanta and knew the original Flying Biscuit, was freaking thrilled when he saw there's a location in FL. And not unlike its GA spots, the Flying Biscuit was packed with folks seeking a slow-cooked, buttery, generous breakfast. In the spirit of the holiday, we ordered a lot of food. Fried green tomatoes were dabbed with creamy goat cheese and chopped pecans. Oatmeal pancakes were hearty, solidly backed with thick-cut applewood smoked bacon, and came with a cinamon-flecked compote of peaches. I got a massive omlette stuffed with spicy collard greens, tomato, cheese and bacon. Yes, of course I got grits, which were buttery and fantastic. I want them now. And of course, each of our huge, honkin' meals came with a sugar and cinamon-topped light, fluffy bisciut and apple butter on the side. Yes, it isn't cheap.
