Stopped by for brunch yesterday with my sister, mom, and puppy. It's pet friendly outside on the patio so we grabbed a table there. Our server was super fast and made sure we were taken care of. I ordered the chicken Caesar salad wrap that came with truffle fries. I've never had truffle fries anywhere else that actually stayed hot the entire meal. So good! The chicken Caesar salad wrap was interesting too because the chicken it in stayed warm as well which make it really good surprisingly! My mom had the chicken sausage and side of French toast and she loved them both it's her go to order there. My sister had the biscuits and gravy and she said they were delish too which was a switch up from her usual grits bowl order. Always a good time at flying biscuit, we'll be back soon! read more

I haven't been to Flying Biscuit in years, so I decided to stop by for breakfast and it did not disappoint (well... mostly ). Passion Fruit Mimosa Hands down the star of the morning! Refreshing, bright, and the perfect start to breakfast. Chorizo Hash A solid choice. I was expecting a bit more spice and depth of flavor, but it was still a tasty and hearty meal. Single "Fluffy" Pancake Unfortunately, this one missed the mark. Nothing fluffy about it and it was thin and overcooked. Definitely room for improvement here. Apple Butter & Biscuits The apple butter paired with their biscuits? Chef's kiss. Absolutely delicious. Overall: I'd still recommend Flying Biscuit if you're looking for a warm, hearty breakfast spot. There are definite hits on the menu, and with a few tweaks, the experience could be even better. We've been here a few times before, but decided to leave a review today. Our server was very pleasant and checked on us promptly. We decided to order the bottle service option (one bottle of champagne and two juice options - mango, guava). I did have to ask for a new glass since the one I was given was a little dirty, but no issues there. Friday breakfast. The menu here is full of so many great dishes, it is a challenge to choose just one. I opted for the Piedmont Omelette. Delicious cheesy and full of yummy meats and veggies. The creamy dreamy grits are the best I've ever had. So lusciously creamy and buttery. You don't even need to salt. Coffee is great. We ate outside on the patio in nice cool weather. My cousin and I did a long walk at squirrel lake park and went to brunch after. We were seated outside quickly and our waitress greeted us with much needed waters. I ordered a buffaloes chicken wrap with chips and my cousin got a breakfast plate. Everything came out quickly and was good. You can't go wrong with their menu! First time at this location and honestly was not impressed. Walked up around 10:45 am just to see what the wait time would be for 2 people. We were immediately sat which was great. Unfortunately, we waited for about 20 minutes before our waitress came out to take our order, and that's only because I asked if our waitress could come out and at least take our drink order. Ordered their pancake tacos, and their piedmont omelet. Honestly, the omelet was not that great. The bacon bits inside were super black and burnt and tasted very old. The egg also just tasted like it had been sitting out under a light. It was very dry and just did not have any taste to it. The biscuit was very cold, dry, and hard. Not fluffy at all. The only tasty things were the grits and the dust potatoes. Those were very delicious. Warm, crisp, and very well marinated. Wouldn't come back again. read more

My husband and I have been to this location of Flying Biscuit a couple of times. It's a little smaller than the Park Road location, but a perfect location to have breakfast before visiting Matthews Alive during Labor Day weekend. I like their Biscuit, Eggs, and Gravy dish. Their chicken sausage gravy is SO good, and I also love their creamy grits (it reminds me of Midnight Diner's version). I asked for the biscuit on the side this last visit so I could hand it over to my husband, and they delivered all of the components in a deconstructed fashion. Very cool! The scrambled eggs are always perfectly done here, too. My husband loves their Hangover Hash, with over-medium eggs. They are generous with their queso portion, and they always cook the eggs just right. Their biscuits are really good, too, especially with the apple butter that's available on every table. The Matthews location is a little more cramped than Park Road. Service is pretty speedy, however, even on a busy festival weekend. We'll definitely return! read more

We had guest visiting from out of town and through Flying Biscuit would be perfect! We arrived on a very cold morning and were quoted a 25 minute wait. There isn't a place to stand so we moved off to the side as it was way too cold to stand outside. After 15 mins the hostess told us we can't stand inside and had to stand outside (with a small child). She was very rude and said that we had another 20 or so mins and that she quoted us 25-30 min wait. This did not make sense since we had been there for quite awhile and since her tone was very nasty we said to take our name off the list. We ended up going to First Watch and had an excellent experience. It takes nothing to be kind. I understand if we need to move outside but why would you talk to people in that tone and manner? After my medical appointment on Friday , we had delicious breakfast. I ordered Hot Butter Chicken & Waffles. Our server was lovely young lady with blond pony tails. The order arrived very quickly, chicken was golden brown however upon taken one bite, my breath was taken away, I could barely talk, had to drink Tom of water. I asked our server what was on the Chicken as it was extremely ..she stated it was hot spices. I told her I didn't realize "Hot" meant very spices. I asked for an order of regular fried tenders. She quickly returned with 2 floured half fried tenders. Needless to say I couldn't eat that. So for future reference Hot Buttered Chicken & Waffles means extremely spices. Today, I had the best grits I've ever tasted at the Flying Biscuit Café. Nice restaurant with an at home family feel. I eat and cook grits often and thought mine were pretty good, until today. Their grits were outstanding, and the entire meal was excellent. Please let the cook know he is good at his craft. I was greeted warmly by several staff members as soon as I walked in. I ordered the chicken sausage and grits, and they were perfect. No butter needed. Their biscuits with the apple butter were perfect together. The apple butter was so good, I purchased a couple of jars to take back to Chicago. Brianna was an exceptional waitress. She was pleasant, returned to the table often, and was fun to talk to. My husband ordered the biscuits and gravy. I tried one bite (the only one he allowed!), and the seasoning was spot on. I will definitely return. Went on a Mid Saturday morning with a party of 4. The wait wasn't too bad since we chose either inside or outside seating. Food selections: Piedmont Omlette, Hot honey chicken & Waffles, Sunnyside waffle combo. The food was fresh, and it arrived in a reasonable time. One thing I love about this restaurant is the Grits, but they were a little too salty that day, which is why the rating is 4... but it happens sometimes. Got a table at 11am on Easter morning in 15 minutes on the patio. Started with a cup of bottomless coffee while we wait patiently for our server to take our order. After our server delivered the coffee I asked for cream and sugar. Then after I finished my first cup, I had to ask for a second cup and wait for quite a while. They seemed to be very under staffed on the patio so this is more on the management than the server for sure. I ordered the hangover hash while looked very appetizing. 2 issues I found is the amount of queso was very little and the chicken was very dry. The menu said a "heavy downpour" of queso and that was definitely not the case. The chicken was a breaded & fried chicken breast and it appeared the dryness was due to the chicken being cooked and cut ahead of time instead of when the meal was ordered and served. This was our first time here and if the issues were caused or exasperated by Easter I would give them a pass, but quality of food is not tied to the holiday. It comes down to pour standards or execution by the kitchen staff. These types of food quality failures should be addressed before the food is served to their customers. 3 stars at best. read more

Right before my partner and I moved, we decided to try this restaurant. And BOY was it amazing! The environment was fun and the staff was super attentive and friendly. First time at The Flying Biscuit. Let's start off with the service. Upon arriving we were told we could choose anywhere to sit. The place is spacious and it's has a huge sitting area outside as well. On to the meal, I ordered the Freebird with my eggs over easy and the moon dusted potatoes. My sister ordered the Dirty bird, eggs over medium and another friend order ordered the High Flyer. The eggs were cooked to perfection and the gravy was thick and rich with flavor. The house potatoes had a crisp but also soft texture making them perfect for this dish. We were looking for a New Breakfast place on Friday morning in Matthews,NC and spotted The Flying Biscuit Cafe. Location was clean and appeared inviting although the staff looked at us like deer in headlights. Standing inside the door waiting for someone to greet and seat us was a moment of us wondering whether anyone cared we were there as customers?? We noticed the same thing happened to a party of 3 who came in behind us and we watched the same awkward moment for them too. After the staff woke up we were pleasantly serviced by Jessica who did a great job explaining the menu (Pancake Tacos) when I mentioned this was our first time. She was very good in building our confidence backup as we waited for my Pancake Tacos & my wife had eggs, bacon, grits and biscuit. -She was thrilled with her meal and really liked the food was delivered Hot- always our pet peeve at restaurants. Coffee was exceptional and Jessica was fantastic at filling our cups and ice water. Only thing I didn't like were the pancakes which weren't cooked through and were very gummy. The Scrambled Eggs with real hardwood bacon bits in them were Outstanding-- very tasty and worth getting without the pancake wrapped around them. We both agreed Jessica saved the breakfast so we were happy to give her a generous tip well deserved. Me and the girls came here for breakfast. When we walked in the place was bubbling and exciting and a lot of happy people in there. You can smell the food and just had a great vibe. The way they have the menu set up as you can get a little bit of everything. Let me give you a hint don't be overwhelmed because it's not too much food. I ordered the one with the side with the grits bacon and eggs I think and it was just perfect portions. Plus we even ordered the fried green tomatoes and shared it which was really delicious. It had a really nice cheese and some caramelized nuts on it. The lattes were really good oh and we had a chai latte which was delicious but it cost $6.50. That was kind of a shock. I ordered a regular latte and then my friend ordered the shower and I said sure I'll take that. But the regular latte was like four dollars.Don't think I've ever paid that much for a chai even if it is a latte. This isn't Starbucks guys so I would revisit that but hey I guess people are buying it because me and my friend got it. What is a good yes but double what a chai should be. There were are some babies next to us so we got some baby attention and that was fantastic. Staff is really helpful to overall great spot. Wow seeing all the mixed reviews made me kinda anxious, as I washed my hands in the kitchen sink. My phone got all wet and stuff. Our waitress maybe Phiona? Nice girl with glasses was very attentive. 10/10 and the food came out faster then when I'm sitting on insta gram looking at people who live so much better life's then me. First and Foremost the food was wonderful! We had the strawberry cheesecake stuffed French toast plate with eggs and grits.... The French toast melts in your mouth, flavor was everything! The grits were whipped to perfection and did not need any salt & pepper or anything. No lumps just smooth & creamy as ever. The apple butter mixed drink was also delicious and for the price you wouldn't believe how tasty it was... strong but not unbearable and made for any part of the day. Now for our service.... I asked to speak to a manager and Sully came by and you could see the concern/care on his face as soon as I mentioned the word complaint. My complaint was that Our server Isabella was TERRIBLY GOOD AT HER JOB! Isabella was very knowledgeable of the menu, offered suggestions, patient, and even with her having other tables SHE DID NOT SHORT US ON SERVICE AND MADE IT MEMORABLE. She worked the floor and even heard her humming/singing the great tunes of the restaurant- meaning she wasn't a stiff employee just there to do her shift and go home. The food is so good i got french toast and grits with some eggs. The mea cane with a biscuit and all that was inly 15 dollars it was definitely worth it. The waiter i had forgot to bring only thing but she brought it so i cant get mad over that.
