a simple yet amazing combination (onions are very well cooked)

I heart Morning Thunder Café and have been eating there since it opened in the 90s... I love that it hasn't changed one bit in that amount of time -- why would you mess with excellence? best "diner" breakfast in all of Chico. all their hearty traditional dishes are incredulousauce -- I have them dump a ladle of country gravy on everything, even pancakes and sundaes (kinda kidding?), but my pro tip today is this: how to have a delicious breakfast that is about as healthy as you can get, listen up: order the "St. Lawrence Scramble" egg whites only, substitute spinach for potatoes and tomatoes for toast, BAAAAAMIGO! and I even eat the dumb orange wedges (but not the parsley); and then next week reward yourself with a huge plate of their uncanny potatoes and yes, throw a ladle or two of gravy on it! yer welcome XOXO "love Health & Gravy" ~Maya Angelou~

We stopped in on a Tuesday morning for breakfast. There was no wait about 9 am and we were told to pick our seat. The waitress stopped by quickly and I I opted for the huevos rancheros with the refried beans. Overall our visit was good. The staff was friendly and the restaurant was clean. That said, I would not order the huevos rancheros again. I was caught off guard with the amount of Mexican rice and how it was incorporated into the dish (not as a side). And the knife cuts on the green onion could be much improved. Small slices of green onion are better than chunks. Overall, it was a good experience. But that particular dish could be refined.

I really enjoyed the food! It's a busy, cozy little diner with a great vibe. The service was okay, but the overall experience was classic and welcoming.

We went to try this place in Quincy and it had great reviews. Great breakfast, had an all American dish with a side on pancakes. Great food, clean and quality meal. The coffee was great and tasty. Service was great and the ambiance was fun.

Great diner ambience. Friendly and efficient service. We ordered the two eggs breakfast with a side of a beef patty, the St Thomas omelette with hash browns and toast, and the Gluten Free French Toast with berries. The food was good with plentiful portions.

Came back for late breakfast after 10 years away. Just as good as always and fresh great service, which is a signature of this establishment. As many meals as I have enjoyed here over the years, the service is remarkable every time. They have cracked the code of the perfect meal. From the Bidwell Egg to the gluten free waffles, Morning Thunder for the WIN! Although I'm too old for Java shakes these days, their selection of iced teas surpasses expectations; especially since they're right across from T Bar! So many great things to say about one of my favorite Chico breakfast spots!

The carpet in particular is somewhat outdated and very dreary. We were seated right away with an evening reservation. Our server was the most delightful, helpful as well as professional person. She definitely made for an enjoyable experience. The menu is nicely broad with some very good and interesting selections. For an appetizer I selected the Alsatian Tarte Flambe. With the description of a "tarte" plus "puffed pastry" I was somewhat surprised when what looked like a flatbread arrived. Although somewhat true to the description I expected something like a cup shaped pastry. It was delicious enough so no complaints over the ingredients and flavor. If anything it tasted a bit top heavy with vinegar, yet still enjoyable. I washed it down with a Schramsberg Prosecco which was a perfect accompaniment. For an entree I choose the Grilled 6oz Petit Tender (medium rare) with asparagus and scalloped potatoes topped by a red wine and berry sauce. It was excellent, flavorful with the meat very tender. I was very pleased. It was an abundant portion so I was quite full after consuming it. My dining companion had the grilled meatloaf with ground filet mignon and pork sausage. It is baked and then grilled. I tried some and it is EPIC. It has to be one of the best meatloaf preparation I ever tasted. Bravo on this dish! We shared a bottle of Tempranillo to accompany it which was perfect. For dessert we shared a nice and refreshing mint chocolate chip ice cream which was generously comped as we were there for a special occasion. Thank you! I would definitely return and try other dishes, although the meatloaf is a must standout. Overall a very good experience.

Our server was prompt, polite, and friendly, which we appreciated. The restaurant itself is nicely decorated with lots of natural light and a pleasant atmosphere. I'd describe it as "Chico nice" -- casual and trendy, but not fine dining or especially refined service. The food was okay to good, but nothing memorable. We ordered the avocado toast, chicken sandwich, a beer, and a sweet drink, and the total came to about $72. Everything was perfectly fine, just not the kind of food or experience that would make me want to return, especially for a birthday celebration. Overall, it's a decent spot for a casual lunch, but it didn't feel particularly special for the price.

I scoured the menu and was excited to find so many hash choices. I was moved by the Irish Burrito, but ordered Linda's omelette; while my daughter went with the eggs Benedict. In a town that takes its breakfast seriously, and where I've probably worked my way through more menus and reviews than I should admit, this one quietly climbed right to the top of my list. My omelette was exactly what you want when you order one. Fluffy without being dry, full of flavor without trying too hard, and cooked like someone in the kitchen actually cares about eggs. The ingredients were balanced and fresh, not just thrown together as filler. The hollandaise sauce was original, I couldn't find a lemon, cheese or any other overwhelming base, it stood out. The hash was perfect. My daughter's eggs Benedict looked like a postcard version of what that dish should be. Perfectly poached eggs, rich hollandaise that didn't feel heavy, and ham that actually tasted like ham instead of just salt delivery. One of those plates where you steal a bite "just to try it" and immediately understand the decision. The real surprise for me was the potato pancake I picked instead of the usual hashbrowns. Light, airy inside, crispy outside, and seasoned just right. Honestly one of the better breakfast potatoes I've had anywhere. If potatoes had a hall of fame, this one would at least get a nomination. The place itself has a warm, comfortable feel. Wood tones, rooster themes everywhere, a relaxed local energy where people look like regulars and first-timers feel welcome anyway. Service was friendly and efficient without feeling rushed. In a city full of strong breakfast spots, this might actually be my current favorite. That's not something I say lightly.
