Came here for their cakes! They have very unique cakes that was perfect for my friends birthday celebration. I love how they offer unique flavors and purchased 3 for us to try Coconut Lychee rose Strawberry We loved them all! I also got drinks - honey green milk tea and passion fruit green tea. I haven't been around the ELAC area to know that there's a new boba place that ordered. I was first attracted by the name actually. I finally got to check the place out recently and ordered some of their cakes: red velvet with strawberry and coconut. First of all, the cakes are both nicely decorated. It's not overly sweet. There's not much of a red velvet flavor actually so I don't think I can tell there's a flavor associated with the cake if I didn't read the label. To my surprise though, the coconut one is quite good. The flavor stands out yet not overly powering. Most of the people of my group who tried both prefer the coconut cake actually. As far as the price goes, it's a tad pricy but I guess the cakes are nicely decorated so that somewhat justified it. read more

I'm so sad to say that the chocolate cheesecake was the worst cake I've ever had in my entire life. The cream was curdled and watery and had an awful texture. It had no taste of vanilla or egg or milk or anything. The ganache was the only ok part of it but I can't justify trying any more of the cakes. I've had a couple other cakes from there like the cookies and cream one and the tiramisu but they were also very bland and the texture was not pleasant. Greeted by two friendly ladies who I believe own the shop. Walking in you not only see delicious pastries, you smell everything and it's oh so good! We had a taste for boba and decided to try this place out. Our drinks were fairly priced and prepared quickly. It was a very good and refreshing drink. Now as far as the location, it offers a small inside seating area as well as a small patio with shaded seating. The only downfall is the lot it is in, the parking is almost always full. Small location that took over what was Boba Ave. We tried a few of their cakes and some of their drinks. If you want a whole cake you will need to place an order ahead of time, they only have slices in their display case. Drinks were mediocre. Pinacolada Smoothie- tasted off, not sure if it wasn't enough pineapple or coconut was too artificial. Passion Fruit Tiramisu- was great, perfect layer tangy sweetness jelly over top of light cream and cake layers. Doesn't feel too heavy. Mango Mille Cake (crepe cake)- wasn't too sweet. Cream in between layers was just right. Crepe had a good texture, airy and thin. Coffee Basque Cheesecake- was not my favorite. Cheesecake is topped with a mousse and it didn't feel coherent. Coffee mousse felt a little waxy than creamy. Cheesecake wasn't smooth, a little lumpy. read more

I called prior to going to make sure that they had cakes available and the staff informed me there was plenty and to come in to check it out. I ordered a Jasmine Green Tea with boba and when my order came out as a latte, I asked the owner if she can remake it because I didn't want milk/non-dairy milk, just tea, otherwise my stomach would't sit well. The owner was clearly upset at this. Did not say one word to me and looked as if it was a huge ordeal that she was remaking the drink I originally had paid and asked for. Her daughter, who is definitely under the legal age of working (maybe 8 or so) took my order and maybe it's not best to have such a young child working the counter. This boba place is my go to spot. It's near ELAC and walkable distance (Monterey Park). It's also around other nice little shops. Their service is amazing- they are super attentive and sweet. My favorite go-to bakery in the area (Shredded Carrot) closed (so sad) and I needed a cake for my daughter's birthday. Found this little place on Yelp and decided to take a chance. Their menu is interesting -- true to their name -- a cross between a boba shop and a Western style bakery with Asian textures and flavors. It's not a Sunmerry (thank goodness because while I love Sunmerry we don't need more of those) but it's also not the typical bakery you'd find in Pasadena-ish. When I went in to order, the person working (I think she may be one of the business partners?) didn't speak much English, but she was extremely sweet and with the help of Google Translate she was able to take my order perfectly. The cake itself was just what I wanted, chocolate with cookie filling and cookie frosting, no external decoration so I could add my own topper. And it was delicious, my family loved it. It was an Asian style sponge cake and fit what we needed, and the price was reasonable. Also, the box and presentation was beautiful! I'd definitely order from January Boba & Cake again! read more
