I was picking up dinner from Hong Kong Cafe located at Atlantic Times Square in Monterey Park. As I was walking back to my car, I noticed Sunmerry Bakery. It was near their closing time, but thought I go in to see what they have. Chairs were already put up. Very limited baked pastries left for grabs. I was lucky to get a few of them along with $1.00 egg tarts. Yes, you read right... $1.00 egg tarts. They were decect size and quite tasty. Worth the very quick visit! Staff was nice. Interior is spacious. Prices were reasonable. Free parking is available at the square. I'm coming back for more $1.00 egg tarts and whatever else I didn't find that night. Thanks Sunmerry! Never been to this location but there's plenty of underground parking. The AC didn't seem to be on inside so it was kind of warm. There's no bathroom. We came for the BOGO deal for their oolong tea series and were disappointed they ran out of the osmanthus ones. We got the oolong milk tea with light sugar. They said no ice adjustments. It's a clean establishment and lots of great options to choose from. When we approached the busy clerk who was casing the goodies, we asked if the mocchi donuts were ready. To which she replied "Yes" however ignored us and continued to case the pastries. I stood there and she then asked if I need help? Got a matcha croissant and a bubble milk tea at Sunmerry Bakery in Monterey Park. They have a nice selection of pastries and breads available, and a seating area to enjoy food and drinks. Matcha croissant was flaky and tasty, and the milk tea was good, although the cup was a bit flimsy and the sides of the cup squeezed in a bit as I was holding it, causing a minor milk tea spill. A Taiwanese import founded in 1986 with 36 shops worldwide, I had often overlooked this shop while walking to AMC. My wife and I needed a caffeine boost before our movie. We ordered an iced large boba milk tea ($6.25) and large vietnamese coffee ($6.00). It was a one-person operation, with the staff member handling orders, the register, and making drinks. It was slow, as we waited for others to purchase pastries, and some insisted on paying cash with exact change. I wouldn't recommend this place if you're in a hurry, as they can be very slow. The service was friendly and helpful, but it was slow because one person was doing everything. My wife couldn't finish her drink because she felt it was too sweet, and my milk tea was also quite sweet, even though I enjoy sweet drinks. We wouldn't rush to return, and we wouldn't order drinks here again. We might try a pastry, but I don't think we'll be back anytime soon. read more

I had no idea there was a Sunmerry Bakery in this plaza but hey since there was one, I can't just walk past without "accidentally" buying sweet treats from here!! There is an underground parking structure for your convenience!! Unfortunately, like every Sunmerry after 5 p.m., the best goodies had already been taken by other pastry fans, so my dreams of a matcha mochi donut died on the spot. Nice location inside a plaza. I was starving so I got a chicken cheese bread. While the prices are cheap the chicken cheese bread was inedible. I've tried their other bread before and I would just stick to the sweet stuff. I took one bite of my chicken cheese bread and I knew it wasn't fresh. While I know the bakery prides themselves in fresh bread I'm not sure this one has. The bread itself had a rancid chicken smell almost as if they used almost expired chicken to make it because the chicken was not fresh even the American cheese couldn't cover up the flavor of bad chicken. I came here around 3:30PM on a Saturday, and there were still a good amount of baked goods available. They have many varieties to choose from including cream donuts, ube conchas, bagels with cream and red beans, and sesame mochi. I got six assorted pastries for $17. Usually they have some kind of deal with their pastries and their drinks (BOGO, special discount days for certain days of the week, etc.) There's seating inside and outside as well. Staff is friendly. When we went the trash cans were full, so I can only imagine what it's like when there's an event going on at the square. When we went later on in the day on a Sunday, they were out of Thai tea, so I had to get a sea salt tea instead, which was alright. We were able to adjust sweetness and ice level at the very least. I saw they sold strawberry daifuku and have been craving some so I gave it a try . Unfortunately there was a lot of excess mochi folded in, there was also some kind of sponge cake inside which is different from what I'm used to. The mochi itself was good and soft but the red bean inside was not good. It was really dry and hard. I also tried the green tea croissant which was just ok. Not too flavorful and there is no filling just powder on the outside. Lastly I tried the Tiger Milk boba which was soooo good! Perfectly sweet and creamy. I've never had a boba drink come in such bad cup packaging. Literally the worst!! So flimsy and slippery from liquid/condensation of the boba drink on top of the plastic made from it. Has so many interesting baked good choices. I would compare it to 85 degrees but better. I've also had their cakes multiple times and would prefer it over the 85 degree bakery cakes. We visited this bakery because the Street Churros we wanted to go was closed today. We walked into a clean hall with baked goods on one side. Croissants look very good, but we decided just to get Americano coffee since we just ate and didn't feel like eating more... The girl at the counter was nice and made our coffee right away. P.S. Solid stop on a recent visit to LA. Looking for a boba and bao spot to pick up some drinks and snacks and found Sunmerry on Yelp. Both baos and drinks were good, but not the best I have had. Positive is they seems super fresh on our visit. My pineapple char siu bao was fresh, but the filling seemed to be all sauce and very little meat. They have buy one get one drink specials daily in the summer so that was a good value. Located in a huge complex with ground floor commerical, what I assume is residential apartments on top and underground parking garage. Overall a solid four star visit. read more

I visited this bakery on a Friday as soon as they opened. I ordered the Vietnamese coffee and it was a huge let down. I asked the the person who took my order if they phin drip their coffee like a traditional Vietnamese coffee or they use espresso, she said they brew the coffee here which I assumed meant Phin drip but it was literally just brewed watered down coffee that wasn't even good. Plus it has some granular pieces in it which I'm not even sure were coffee grounds and it was bitter water down and just not good. The baked goods were okay, similar to stuff at 85 degrees bakery. I enjoyed the brioche bread but the double chocolate croissant tasted off, it didn't taste like a buttery croissant. read more

We found this great bakery similar to 85c bakery while in Monterey park. They have a variety of breads and cakes, as well as various beverages. We tried a variety of breads such as their Oreo Choco, Garlic parsley, and Pudding Brioche. Since it is almost Thanksgiving, they had a bread that looked like a turkey! Very creative. All the breads were so fresh, soft, with just the right amount of sweetness. The bakery is very spacious and clean with a lot of seating areas. The staff were great and helpful. When going to a bakery with multiple stores, you can sometimes question if the quality is the same across different places. Considering you can find Sunmerry bakeries both in Los Angeles and Taiwan, it's not easy to see if the quality is there. Upon entering the branch in Monterey Park, you are greeted both by the staff and the delicious smell of different pastries. You can grab a tray and choose what you want, with a few things like drinks and certain breads behind the counter. At the end of 2025, this Sunmerry branch offered $1 egg tarts, or a Napoleon style egg tart for $1.15. Although they were out of egg tarts, I decided to get a few of the Napoleon style egg tarts alongside a bolo milk butter bread. These egg tarts were incredible, with the custard being so flavorful yet not overly sweet! The crust had the perfect blend of butter and soft texture to chew yet still had a bit of a crunch too! The bolo milk butter bun was also quite flavorful, albeit with a bit of an empty bubble within it. The sweetness was higher on the bun, so if you are not a fan of sugary pastries, the bolo milk butter bun may not be one you choose. Although I recognize that the egg tarts will return to their regular price soon after my review, the Napoleon egg tarts are definitely worth getting once more!
