OMGGGGGG I have been wanting to try this place for a while and tonight I didn't want to cook and fast food just wasn't going to do it. I ordered the fried catfish, the crawfish stouter, and the fried okra with a Hurricane to go. Food was ready quick quick quick. I live pretty close so I went to pick it up. The space was large, tucked away. It was clean and simple but the SMELL. The smell was the EXACT way you want a New Orleans restaurant to smell. If you have been down there and know how to cook Creole/Cajun, you know exactly what I mean. I got home and sipped the Hurricane and I was like oh it taste like orange juice then BAM! It hit me, it was adequately strong. And then I opened it and saw beautifully golden brown catfish and fried okra. I opened the etouffe and it smelled like the southern creole cooking I love. The taste was perfect, the okra was crispy, the catfish was soft and flaky, and the etouffe was beautifully smooth and flavorful. My only complaint was the catfish was like a filet and a half and not two filets. I just cannot believe the food is hidden in Rochester. I will be frequenting regularly! read more

been meaning to go back to this place since 2016. I regret waiting so long only because they moved to a new location. I loved their old location on spring st which was in the big victorian house. I heard they moved for various reasons, but I'm sure it was partly a financial decision. the new location is on w ridge rd in the old mcginnity place since they closed. the chef is the same so the food hasn't changed which is a major plus. new location is dingy and not the greatest, but seems like they also took some decor with them as well as the plating and seating. they painted as well. I'm hoping its just the beginning for them and it might change, but who knows. people will keep coming for the food. when we sat down we noticed 3 other parties as well were seated. during our time there I think about 5 parties came in for take out. seems like they are doing well. my boyfriend ended up getting the hot chicken which was great and I got the shrimp étouffée which was also great. not that appealing but tasted yummy. we also got the jambalaya appetizer and the banana pudding with beignets. all delicious, no problems. and the best part that continues is the prices. so affordable, we will back despite the atmosphere not feeling the same. read more

I haven't been to The French Quarter since they moved, but location isn't as important as the food, and who doesn't love some Louisiana cooking? I'm a bit confused as to their hours. The website says they're only open Wednesday-Saturday, 5-9 or 10. Tripadvisor says they're open every day. Okay, I get their website is probably the most reliable. Love the food, but how can a restaurant remain viable when they're open less than 20 hours a week? Is this a hobby restaurant or do the owners really want to make a go of this? read more

The new location doesn't have the same vibe as the old one. They have been doing alot to give the new place a cozy, jazzy feel. BUT the food and service are still amazing! We have eaten in and take out many times and haven't found anything that we wouldn't eat over and over. There are also several specialty cocktails worth a try. read more

Ordered take out from here tonight because we've been wanting to try this for a while. My roommate and I shared the boudin balls, crawfish etouffe, gumbo and Nashville chicken. It was all pretty good! Do yourself a favor and get those boudin balls, they are so good! Honestly my least favorite thing was probably the chicken. It wasn't bad by any means but everything else was just better in my opinion. I would definitely order from here again. We did get to see the inside, even though we didn't sit in. I loved the paintings that they had all over the place and they had great jazz music playing. I think next time I need to get dessert, I've heard wonderful things about the peach cobbler... Ok. I've gone to The French Quarter twice over the last month. The first was on a Sunday, when they just have a buffet option. The woman who greeted us didn't tell us that so I was super confused for several long minutes waiting for a menu. The food was flavorful and filling. The fried chicken is probably my favorite bone-in chicken in the area, right now. There were two different gumbo options (one with shrimp and one without). Now, the place is supposed to open at 11 but the food wasn't actually all ready until closer to 12. So, I would not recommend going early. I also ordered some of the beignets, which were disappointing. The floor needed sweeping. The drinks were good. The second time, I took Hubbo. I tried the wings (a good BBQ sauce but no heat. Sad.) and chicken etoufee combo with an extra side of the brabant potatoes. All of it was good but nothing wowed me. Brabant potatoes are often pan fried, they are like home fries. These were deep fried, which was fine and added a crunch, but not what I was expecting. I should have gotten the damn fried chicken! For dessert, hubbo ordered the beignets and I ordered the peach cobbler. The beignets were better this time and the peach cobbler has become the stuff of my dreams and wishes. All in all. Both trips were average with a high and a low. I will definitely be back. read more

Such a shame I spent money here. I found out about this place last year when I came back to visit family. I loved it, I had the chicken wings and some other stuff I forgot about and another family member had the Étouffée. Which I did try, but it was nasty. The chicken wings were the best I'd ever had so I was dying to get them again. I came back this year and this restaurant has had a major down grade. When I tried to order the chicken wings they said they don't serve the chicken wings by themselves anymore. They only sell the chicken wings paired with Étouffée for $16 and you only get 5 wings . Everything I don't want to hear. So I didn't get what I really wanted, instead I settled for the regular chicken and potatoes with a small side of coleslaw. Although, the potatoes taste like they were fried in fish oil, ended up throwing them away. Unfortunately this will be my last time coming here, but I wish you luck if you go. The place has some of the most delicious and authentic creole food I've had in WNY. This my second time there, and this time I was able to try several different items on the menu from the wings (delicious!) to the gumbo and crawfish. My main course consisted of the Blackened Catfish fillet and Crawfish fettuccine. It was delish and so flavorful. Having been recently disappointed by a catfish experience it was nice to enjoy a good piece of fish. For an appetizer, I had the chicken and sausage gumbo and ordered the 'cup', but as you can see this came in a bowl and the bowl option which was a dollar more is really more a full dinner portion. Definitely know what I'll be getting next time since this was popping with flavor was not overpowering in taste as some gumbo can be. For dessert of course me and my friends has beignets. Wish I took a picture of them, but they were so dang tasty we eat them before that could happen, haha. read more

All of the food was quite good; it evoked the tastes and smells of The Quarter in Old New Orleans, though to be fair it didn't have the same level of spicy heat that I've enjoyed when I've visited there. The venue is situated inside a lovely old house with high ceilings. The service is good while the food is even better - the prices are reasonable too! If you want damn good etouffee, jambalaya, and pretty much anything else, you want to remind you of the New Orleans. Get in the car and get here. Outstanding food will always trump atmosphere and beautiful interiors. They moved from downtown to W. Ridge Rd, formerly McGinnitys. They did some minor decor updates, but get past that and go for the food. Heck, order take out! I highly recommend it. The staff is kind and helpful. The chef deserves a shout out. My only regret was not coming here sooner. My family ordered takeout from here for Black Restaurant Week. It was the first day of the inaugural week so the demand was immense. This of course led to delays in food being ready, though this is a reflection of the successful marketing of the week rather than a reflection of issue with the restaurant (also keep in mind this was in the midst of the pandemic with many businesses going from having no staff or minimal staff to just starting to open back up for dine-in service). The staff was courteous, patient with customers and maintained an impressive level of composure given how incredibly busy they were. I was worried that with how busy they were, the quality of the food may be not up to speed with what it would be on a less busy day. Boy was I wrong. This food is AMAZING. Tastes like it is straight out of NOLA. We got the jambalaya, hot chicken, shrimp po' boy, summer salad and all of the sides since my sister is vegetarian. Every bite was full of the perfect textures and flavors. I cannot wait to order from here again. read more

While I admittedly have never been to New Orleans, I have to imagine The French Quarter more than lives up to its name. The restaurant is located within a mansion in an odd spot just off 490, but the food and atmosphere inside are anything but odd. We tried a good portion of the menu, including the catfish, crawfish etouffee, red gumbo, boudin bites, and shrimp creole. Everything was very good, but we all agreed that the red gumbo is what we would order on a return visit. Also had the beignets, which were the perfect dessert. The food was good!!!! The wait was not. First time at this spot after hearing many positive reviews about their food. Located in an odd location in downtown Roc, we pulled up to a colonial-style home with red doors. It had been converted into a restaurant. Beautiful! After waiting a short amount of time to be seated (arrived short after opening), we had to wait about 10 minutes until a waiter came to us. Yes, this was good time to look over the menu, but I believe it's key for acknowledgement to happen earlier than later. We ordered a spiked tea and sangria. Was pretty disappointed that we had to wait 30 minutes to get our drinks. At this time, we placed our dinner orders (Shrimp etoufee and the crawfish fettuccine with a side of fried catfish). It was another 30 minutes of waiting until our food arrived. Annoyed by the wait, I dug into the pasta and I now understood why my friends recommended the French Quarter; their food is delicious! The catfish was seasoned very well, the fettuccine was full of flavor, and the sangria was spot on. I feel like more staff should be on hand at this establishment to lower the wait time as the wait can definitely keep customers from returning. If you're like me, I don't mind waiting again for food like that! Hopefully that won't be the story for my next visit! read more

The atmosphere was filled with jazz art enhancing the atmosphere. The entire time we ate there, the pace was booming with take out orders both days. The waitress was extremely friendly and attentive. What a special spot! I ended up eating here for the first time during "Black-Owned" restaurant week, and the food was so, so good. I got gumbo, beignets, potatoes, and greens - and even though I've never been to New Orleans, it all tasted super authentic. Everything was savory, a little spicy, and comforting, which is what I was hoping for. The beignets were next level. The location was also super, super cool. The interior and exterior have a very distinctive Creole vibe, with a nice big patio outside. So, so cool! My only compliant was due to the busyness of "Black-Owned" restaurant week, the wait time was out of control. I ordered early in the day, got a text notification that it would be ready by 8pm, and then it wasn't ready for another good 45 minutes at least. It sucked to be waiting with a big group of people like that during COVID. I really hope that this was just one tough day and that they are able to get some good systems going because this place is awesome, and I want to see this restaurant win! read more

This was an interesting place. My husband and I went with another couple who have been going there for years. If they hadn't invited us we never would have known about it and we definitely would never have spotted it - it was difficult to find. The inside is very opulent, which was a strange contrast to the casual food. We started by sharing some BBQ shrimp, which I found quite bland. I wish the menu had done a better job of explaining what is in the dishes, because I do not eat meat and I accidentally ordered something with meat in it and ate some before I noticed. This definitely could have been avoided, as I had asked the server if the crawfish etouffee had meat in it and she said no, so I ordered it with dirty rice, which DID have meat in it and I stirred it into the etouffee before I realized it. You'd think she could have put two and two together and realized that I was trying to avoid meat! Not a total surprise, as the service was pretty poor and slow. The worst part of the evening was that the restaurant's phone was ringing the entire time we were there and no one was bothering to answer it! It was so annoying and impossible to concentrate on dinner conversation with that constant ringing! I doubt we'll be back. read more

I love this place. It has all the elements I like: Cajun food, crawfish, spiciness, jazz. If you are getting too frustrated by the weather of Rochester (yes it is snowing already), this place can take you right to New Orleans for a brief time before you drive into the blizzard again, with a happy, full stomach though. Definitely one of my favorite for comfort food. Lots of spice, lots of crawfish, lots of salt. There's also lots of okra with all the fibre that makes you feel less guilty about indulging yourself. I can't tell you how surprised I was to find this quality of New Orleans style food in Rochester. People, you are lucky to have it and should run in for some excellent food. When we walked in , I was taken back to Bourbon Street and the old homes with high ceilings and beautiful chandeliers that many restaurants are located. Think a more casual version of Antoine's or Commanders Palace. The service was quick and friendly. The Boudin Balls were delicious and I wanted more. My catfish was perfectly cooked, fresh, and hot! The dirty rice was spiced just right. Wonderful fried okra and the jambalaya was on point. As someone who has diner in New Orleans on many occasions, this experience was satisfying given our local. At night, the building could use some more lighting and signage. I'll be back to try more! read more

They stopped using Francs in France a long time ago, now it's Euros and Eurocents, so a French Quarter would actually be 25 Eurocents. Except that they don't make coins worth 25, they make 10, 20 and 50. There you go, now you know. By the way the 5 and 2 and 1 are all bronzed copper. They only start the silver for 10 and up. Get a clue, USA and UK. 5 cents isn't worth much anymore. Speaking of which, here's my five cents. It's a very unusual place, it looks like a house. The decor is nice, it's sweet, it's almost New Orleans-esque which is quite a trick in Rochester up in the Great Lakes Rust Belt. However I wasn't too impressed with their product. The gumbo I had was decidedly average. It wasn't very flavourful... it was a little salty, a little rich for my taste, but not in a tasty way, more in a thick-gravy way. That's exactly what it reminded me of, thick gravy. However, for their attempt to bring an unusual cuisine to the region, and for their nice decor and being a family owned business, I'll give them a supportive 4. read more
