The Fresh Market, founded by the Berry's, originated in Greensboro, NC as a vision to bring European-style farmer's market atmosphere to America. With the mission to bring delicious prepared meals, exceptional quality meat and seafood, peak season produce, decadent baked goods, and fresh seasonal flowers, it certainly has succeeded its mission. The high quality and specialty products unfortunately also carry with it the higher price tags. The Fresh Market is among the most expensive of the high end markets. They have an Ultimate Loyalty Experience, but the cashier couldn't tell me the actual benefits. I think it's similar to Reasor's Rewards with weekly specials. They reportedly have the Tuesday specials (to be confirmed): ground chuck and boneless chicken breast for $2.99 per pound. They also have The Little Big Meal that rotates weekly. For those interested in cooking, they have many recipes on their websites which is unique. If you love the neatness and cleanliness of Reasor's then you are going to love The Fresh Market. I cruised through the store and was thoroughly impressed. Shelves and produce were neatly stocked. Deli products and meats looked really fresh. The quality was definitely there as well as the price tags. I am just not sure if I am the target audience of The Fresh Market, definitely gearing more toward affluent people. read more

My initial impression of the store was that it is too pricey to visit very often. Lately, I have been enjoying some luxuries that other grocery stores don't offer. I still stock up on bargains at Costco and Sam's but I enjoy the deli and bakery at Fresh Market. They are several notches above delis and bakeries at most groceries. The employees are super friendly. This week, I had to return something and was impressed with how easy and pleasant it is to do that. I bought a bag of rotten lemons. That can happen at any grocery store. The lemons were in a yellow bag and not easy to see and they hadn't started smelling yet. I'm continuing to give 5 stars but with caveat this time. We were there around 4:30 which may be why so much of their "fresh" seemed empty. Cheese counter, veges, etc. it just didn't look good. There were more customers than we'd ever seen before. We had an actual grocery list this time. You will see picture of pappardelle. It turned out well (Italian, brass cut) but I was expecting fresh like were use to wasn't there. They have a nice selection of breads. We opted for brioche Hamburger buns, of course they were great. Everything under their label , I would trust. You are welcomed in much like other stores with flowers and gifty/seasonal household items. I've been eyeing little chopping boards w/ accompanying knives. They'd be awesome for individuals at a charcuterie party. Sadly, finally I have to honestly say I thought the total was somewhat higher than say, Reasor's. They have a good variety of items not the norm, especially if you consider escarole not a norm. On the website, the recipes are easy to follow. If you shop the sales correctly, even cheaper than Walmart grocery. I'm very happy with fresh market and I'll be a customer here for life. read more

I just love this store. The moment you walk in you just want to stroll through and fill your basket. They have great produce (only place I can ever find figs), amazing cheeses and deli items, and meats. As you move through the store you find extra special things for your dinner, entertaining, or just everyday eating. The bakery. Oh my! Amazing. And the wines! Again, oh my! They have excellent ready made meals for 2 or more people and they are TASTY. It's such a beautiful store and I always find what I need and more. Oh, and did I mention there's calm, lovely music? This place reminds me of a small Whole Foods/Sprouts store. Walking in you can't help but feel like you're about to shop for the healthiest food available. Looking around the neat, tidy and well decorated floor spaces you see an array of fresh fruits and vegetables a table offering free coffee while you shop (mini cups not regular cups) flowers, and seasonal items. Further into the store there is a large island type kitchen. Here you will find some prepared foods you can pick up like meatloaf, roast chicken, and an arrangement of different kinds of cooked and prepared pastas, cheeses, meats, heat and serve meals and sushi. The sushi is amazingly fresh and can be ordered from a menu as well. The store also has a seafood bar, a small bakery, an olive bar, a small soup bar, and a meat counter to name a few. Items you find going up and down the isles are healthy and at reasonable prices. They also have several barrels toward the front of the store with bulk items in them and a great selection of healthy and unusual drinks in their cooler section. I have been very pleased with this store and their offerings of fresh, healthy foods and amazing sushi. I like that it's small enough to manage getting around yet abundant in the items they have to offer. The employees are always so cordial and have s smile on their faces. I will definitely do most of my shopping here when I'm able. read more

FM had USDA Choice whole filet mignon on sale for $11.98 for a full week. I tried to buy it 4 (FOUR) different times. The response is "we will have it after our next supply truck" but they never had it when I checked. THIS COULD BE A GREAT STORE if they had ethics but like many stores it seems like their only priority is making more money for their wealthy owners at the expense of their customers. I can only speak for what I got here and that was their sushi...short answer--don't do it. The rice is like hard tofu and the flavor is nonexistent. It felt like I was eating a potato cutlet wrapped in seaweed. As for market goods, the snack selection is good and the prices are higher that Trader Joes, for reference. It's marketed as an organic, upper scale grocery store, so it definitely meets all those expectations. read more

The manager here, Samantha, was one of the most rude people I have ever encountered in my life. Horrible attitude, hostile towards customers and employees, and made me never want to come back. Change your management ASAP. Disgraceful that there are still people like that in management. I will not come back until she is fired and replaced with someone who deserves the position. read more

I love this place and sad that I no longer live close by. :( It's like a Whole Foods without the pretentiousness (sorry Whole Foods but it's there) the employees- many who are students, are super friendly and are happy to be there and want to help you! I love their fresh deli foods - curried chicken salad (so yummy), lemon orzo pasta salad - spinach, whole cherry tomatoes, pine nuts. tossed into cooked orzo with a splash of lemon juice (not super lemony); turkey meatloaf. We have been going to The Fresh Market since it opened up years ago and love their weekly specials, their ground chuck and chicken breast prices ($2.99/pound when on sale) and their customer service. Veggies are also nice and fresh. BUT, you go for the fudge pie when they have it. Always ask for it as they may be hiding some in the back. read more

Beware! I used to shop here a few years ago when I first moved to town, but then I started noticing that their stuff just didn't seem very...fresh. For example, I found hummus past its "best by" date still in the case and brought home some flowers that were also past their clearly stated sell by date. I know these dates aren't gospel, but Fresh Market is expensive and their items really should be the best. Well, a few weeks ago I went back and bought some jarred olive tapenade from the pantry shelves. I stashed it in the refrigerator even though it was unopened and tonight when I went to open it, it was completely rancid. I searched and found a "best by" date for several months before I bought it. It's too late for me to take it back-- just be warned-- obviously a lot of their stuff is specialty and doesn't have quick turnover. They are not scouring their shelves and removing the old stuff like they should. I don't even want to know how long their bulk by the pound sundries have been there. read more

I drove over from Brookside to check this place out, and while I don't think it's worth a crosstown trek, it's a cute grocery store with lots of attention to detail. I came over on a Tuesday out of curiosity and because it was $2.99/lb on ground chuck and chicken breast without antibiotics, etc. the store has the same things you would find in the new reasors on Peoria or Whole Foods--fresh produce options, lots of people in the deli and cutting fresh cheeses, etc. Although I was there at 6pm on their biggest sale day, and the parking lot seemed fairly full, it didn't seem crowded at all inside. I was able to get a few items and get out. The staff I talked to were pretty knowledgable and I easily got in and out. I didn't really notice anything outstanding (there were a lot of gluten free options, though, more than what I notice at Reasors) but I would definitely come back if I was in the area. Make sure you opt for the email receipts, as it saves paper and you get a $10 voucher for use in the next six days. read more

I agree completely with Kimmy, and will not bother driving way down south for The Fresh Market again. Not vegan friendly in prepared foods or other products, their cheese and bakery departments aren't as nice as Whole Foods. Generally the prepared foods at Whole Foods are more interesting and with greater selection. Seafood bar here was an interesting option, and the bulk candy selection seemed large. The store is clean and attractive, but the front end staff that I dealt with were not especially cheerful or welcoming. The Fresh Market has from now until the new Whole Foods opens in South Tulsa in a few months to win the hearts of customers, as they really fall short in almost every category. read more

This is an amazing little grocery store. High quality foods with a decent selection. I had stopped in hoping to grab lunch and saw some great items in the case which were pre-prepared however I was looking for a salad which they do not have here. Wonderfully appealing olive bar. Great cheese selection. Loved the floral and gift area! A little disappointed that they only had a farm raised salmon in the pre-cooked area but I did see wild salmon and the fresh. As I walked out I saw a sign on the outside that said every day a gallon of organic milk is 2.99. That's amazing I pay twice that much in the Dallas FW area. read more

I liked this place better when it was a Borders. Borders was a cool place to hang out with coffee, books, and a lively atmosphere. Fresh Market is a worse version of Whole Foods. Everything seems too expensive - you can walk around the store and realizes that you can get reasonable replacements at any of the new Reasor's. Plus, some sections seemed lacking for being a grocery store. Take a look at the beer refrigerator. When I was there, there were perhaps twelve options to choose from. One thing I did like about this grocery store is that the front was adequately staffed. I was able to buy my food and only wait behind one person to get checked out. At other places, this can be a huge hassle. And, it wasn't very busy which means it wasn't a hassle to park and the aisles were easy to navigate. It's the antithesis of Walmart. Overall, I prefer Whole Foods if I want something fancy or Reasor's if I want higher quality food at a more reasonable price point. read more

In reading the other reviews I was prompted to write my own. Frankly, I was surprised that so many compared Fresh Market to the stores they were familiar with and because it is unique, it is lacking! I was also surprised how many based their reviews on the prepared foods when I see this market as somewhere you would go to get what you need to prepare your OWN food. I can't imagine judging a grocery store based on a single experience with a vegie wrap, either! - Anyway, the charm of this store is that it is small and uncrowded and it has a LOT of variety when it comes to produce, meat, spices, dairy, etc. It also has assembled a bevy of meals for you that are quick and easy to prepare at home. They cut out the work of making soups and stews by offering produce cut up and ready to go which is a huge time savings. - They have a large variety of dressings, BBQ sauces and Asian sauces that that are good for stir-frying and dipping. They also prepare different things like shrimp tempura, pot stickers, crusted or bourbon salmon and other things that you can pick up and cook at home so your family doesn't get bored. (The tape that wraps up the meat and fish tells you how to prepare it which is a plus since you don't have to go look up the oven temperature and time.) - My husband tells people I never make the same thing twice which is not entirely true, but going into this store inspires me to cook things I previously thought were way out of my comfort zone. They aren't. Plus, I don't have to go home and do the grunt work like chopping everything up. - They have a sizable deli counter, an excellent wine selection, and interesting stuff like growing lettuce that you water during the week so it stays fresh as you pull off what you need for your salad every night. - I come from Southern California where we have Trader Joes, Sprouts, Whole Foods and everything else you can think of. I used to just want to get in and get out of those stores and half the stuff I bought went bad. I would never think of visiting them every day to pick up something fresh for dinner. I do that at Fresh Market, though. Seriously, every day. It's like my extended pantry. read more

I can tell this place takes pride in what products they choose to keep in inventory. It's close to Trader Joe's style. Seems more intimate than whole foods. There is a very nice gentleman by the name of Joe who is fairly new here but knows his way around the grocery store and walks me around to really show me what I'm looking for. that alone deserves five stars. Getting in and out can be hard during rush hour. The whole layout of the store is nice, but the whole place seems a little dark. They have beautiful veggies, fruit and meat. Great deli, great meat counter, produce section, beautiful flowers...it's a great gourmet grocery store. This store is a bit of a drive for me, but the selection of some hard to find items - like spice packets so you don't have to buy a large jar of an exotic spice you won't use often - keep me coming back. As does the deli - calzones, meatballs, a variety of rotisserie chickens, pasta salads, divine mashed potatoes...it's a delicious dinner or a great selection of side items depending on what you're looking for. They also have a great selection of sparkling waters, dehydrated veggie snacks and nuts - either prepackaged or weigh 'em yourself. Not a place most of us will go to buy staples, but a fabulous store for when you're making something out of the ordinary or need that one special ingredient you can't find just anywhere. read more

Well, it is a good thing that some other organic/upscale places are coming into the area. Today I was watching the prices at checkout a little more than I usually do and saw at least two mistakes. I didn't have time to deal with it but then the lady said I she would give me some literature for some deals this weekend. I told her it didn't matter what they offered if you didn't get it at the register. She just handed me my bag with one of those 'have a nice day' comments. I have loved shopping at this store. I enjoyed going to Whole Foods, but it's too far to drive to get groceries. The Fresh Market has made it close enough where I can run out and get in and out with quality fruits, vegetables, and other foods! The meat we get there is awesome!! I have always loved the grocery store feel and I get the friendliness there where I always feel that I can ask a question or even have a mini conversation with the employees! This place is absolutely adorable! It is a joy and treat to come here! I love the holiday displays they have as the seasons change, and they always have delectable samples to try. It may be a little mite expensive than most grocery stores, but the foods are high quality and natural. My body and taste buds always thank me for spending the extra $$$!
