Yes, this is in a gas station but then again, so is Oklahoma Joe's and its the bomb bbq so why not? Tried the beef/lamb meat in a wrap with the zhougg sauce. DELICIOUS! Had some falafel. Awesome! Hummus - so yummy. The only thing that wasn't great was the pita bread. They really need to hook up with Trade Routes Bakery in Lenexa but they make the best pita bread in the world. And the people working, so nice. I don't find myself in Lawrence very often but if I did I'd totally go back! read more

What a fabulous hidden gem! You would never know that inside a gas station is a wonderful Mediterranean fast casualty restaurant. Fresh ingredients, made right in front of you, with options for vegetarians and vegans. We enjoyed the falafel wraps with a side a fries. Chebaro's is part of a very small chain of similar restaurants that I believe have single locations in Kansas City and Wichita. This based on what the employees told me. First off, this is located inside of the newly remodeled convenience store at this location, and the new look is quite an improvement over the old. I won't go into the old location, but it was a hot mess that needed a makeover, which it received. The food, obviously, is middle eastern and the only surprise here is how well its done. Lots of savory yellow rice, chicken/beef/lamb, and hands down the finest falafel that's ever passed these lips. Stunning... flavorful, moist and light, paired with Tzatziki sauce, a real treat. Toss in lots of vegetables and condiments and for one single container we easily had more than enough for dinner and enough for lunch tomorrow. You can dine in at a bar near the window or at the huge picnic table inside the store. This is looking like a great choice for someone needing to take food to work or on the go, takeout, take home, etc. Apparently the word is getting around the University so lots of middle eastern students are even showing up in the morning for the falafel, and no surprise since it's so good. We spent probably an extra hour chatting with the help, including the manager who is a delightful young lady, and the cook who recently arrived here from the Gaza Strip. Great kids for sure. So, yes, a few places you can get falafel in Lawrence, but there's no one getting even close to this good. I really like what they're doing here and look forward to having a bit more of this food in the future. read more

There is no better Mediterranean food in Lawrence. Maybe not in Northeast Kansas, KC Metro included.

People of Lawrence; drop what you're doing and drive to Chebaro immediately. These guys have the BEST falafel in Kansas and dare I say (I do) in all of Kansas City. The only rival is the Habashi House in the River Market in KC. This was my first visit and I was not disappointed. After trying two other mediocre Mediterranean options in Lawrence, I finally mustered the strength to walk into Chebaro, despite my doubts. Their made-in-house falafel, hummus and baba ghanoush were all excellent, with the freshly fried falafel stealing the show. Let's talk portions - I was given 5 or 6 falafel (what I would call medium to large sized), along with a generous serving of hummus, baba ghanoush, tzatziki, Greek olives, tomatoes, cucumbers and peppers - all for only $6.99. I am known to lap up any good dip and they gave me so much I had to THROW SOME AWAY. This is unheard of! If the outstanding food, generous portions and great pricing doesn't get you to drop what you're doing and RUN to this place, allow me to mention the really nice people working there. They're great. Go forth, enjoy and you're welcome. Lawrence is a better place with Chebaro. read more

We had a big event for my daughter and needed to cater food for about 85 guests. We met with chef Ayman and discussed the food and options. He was extremely helpful and allowed us to sample the food in advance. When we picked up the food it was fresh, hot and smelled amazing. Everyone at the event raved about the food and went again for a second serving. Overall, amazing authentic Middle Eastern food with amazing service. Will order again for sure. read more

It's inside a gas station - but don't let that fool you. This place has some really great food and it's where I go to get my Mediterranean cuisine. I always get the schwarma. Their chicken is the best but the beef and lamb is tasty too. Plenty of delicious toppings to choose from - I get the feta cheese, tzatziki sauce, olives, pickles and cabbage. Excellent food in a gas station. I had expected something run down, but it's actually really polished inside, kind of like a fast casual restaurant. Food is solid including the falafel. And they seem to be following appropriate COVID precautions, which is just nice in general. I mean, do you really want people coughing on your food? Not a problem here. Nice people, good food. This place is a hidden gem. The menu is small and perfect. We wanted to try the kababs but we were doing takeout and didn't realize that it takes 15-20 minutes for those, so we did just about everything else. Nothing disappointed. The pitas were crispy (outside) and soft (inside), the meats were juicy and flavored to perfection, the toppings were fresh, and the sauces rounded everything out nicely. read more

I absolutely adore Mediterranean food, and this may be the best Mediterranean I've ever eaten. I never would have found it had i not been searching yelp for some new dining options here in Lawrence, and I'm so glad i did! This place is inside a gas station on 23rd next to dominos pizza. It's extremely clean and everything is cooked out in the open behind a subway or chipotle style bar. There are a multitude of toppings and sauces to try. I went for a rice bowl filled with beef/lamb, cucumbers, tomatoes, feta, and Torshi relish (highly recommended) along with some amazing tahini and tzaziki sauce. The portion is more than enough for two meals. I also ordered falafel which are fried to order. I got into a conversation with the lady who owns the convenience store and she told me that the man who runs the restaurant used to own a place in Jordan. I believe it. Who would have thought that one of the best meals I've ever eaten in Lawrence would come from a gas station? And all for under 10 bucks! read more

This is, without a doubt, the best restaurant in the area. I live in Topeka and drive to Lawrence several times a month to treat myself to Chebaro. This is the most delicious and authentic Mediterranean food you'll get in the Midwest and SO AFFORDABLE. They also have some shopping available inside to get Mediterranean and Indian groceries. Fantastic find INSIDE A GAS STATION! The owner is awesome and his small kitchen seems like a perfect fit for the place. Food was all fresh and loaded with flavor. Rice was very vibrant in color. We ordered a few gyros and an order of falafel and a bowl for the wife of rice, veggies and chicken. Price was great too. Fed the whole family for under 40$ that's 5 people total. Follow the crowds of dedicated local customers. You order at the counter...you have choices like traditional beef/lamb (gyro), chicken, veggie, etc. You can get a wrap, rice bowl or other preparations. There's lots of fresh, delicious veggies, relishes and other goodies you can add in, and an array of sauces you can top your creation with. And whatever you do, don't forget to order a side of falafel. The food is fresh and so flavorful...and the staff are friendly and happy to walk you through all of the options with a smile. "Great food starts in a hole in the wall gas station" says everyone! Don't be alarmed that this food joint is located within a gas station across the street from Dillon's and next to a vape shop, don't be missing out on some delish Mediterranean grinds! It's a build your own (Chipotle concept) wrap, bowl, or salad. The meat available ranges from shawarma (beef and lamb or chicken) to kebabs!! We got the beef and lamb shawarma and spicy chicken kebab bowls (FYI the cook makes the kebab to order so be ready to patiently wait for fresh, hot, and yummy kebabs or once you get the hang of this place you can call in advance for them to get started on a kebab for you) and (the bowls isn't just limited to either rice or hummus or salad, if you are feeling adventurous you can get a combo of all 3!!!). The meat was flavored very well, it wasn't too salty or too spicy and the shawarma is freshly shredded from the giant kebab thing so it's not dry and it's incredibly soft! Btw the portions are huge! There was no disappointment with this place from the rice, meat, salads (tried the green one and the eggplant - very delicious), and the sauces! You must try it all! Last but not least, the star of the show is the falafel (vegan and vegetarian friendly!) FLAVOR EXPLOSION AMAZING! BEST FALAFEL IVE EVER HAD, better a homemade authentic from Mediterranean friend's mother's falafel! Seriously just try everything if you can! Went tonight and was thoroughly impressed. It dubs as a eatery, grocer, and gas station. Atmosphere is what you'd expect. Moderate amount of indoor seating for the size. Items in the grocery and freezer area contain a lot of unique cultural items for those ethnic dishes you may want to prepare. Ordered the pita wrap with falafel and a side of hummus. Hummus wasn't the best I've had, but it was creamy and popped with flavors. The wrap was the star and prepared fresh in front of me. Once the freshly made falafel came out the fryer it was placed in the wrap with fillings if my own choosing and then grilled to meld the flavors together. Barely got it finished as it was very filling. Took most the hummus to go for a snack. I recommend if you're a fan of Mediterranean dishes. I was expecting the best Mediterranean food I've ever eaten but honestly it was just okay. Got a lamb/beef bowl, a lamb/beef wrap, and falafel. I thought the falafel were actually pretty bland, but I appreciated that they were made fresh. 4 stars because it's a great value and because there are tons of options for customization. The marinated eggplant dish was maybe my favorite thing I tried, it's AMAZING. The green sauce and the tzatziki were the best sauces in my opinion. Everything else was just okay. Bowl, wrap, pita. Choice of protein chicken shawarma, beef lamb gyro and kebabs. Oh can't leave out the falafel. Rice, salads, veggie toppings and an array of sauces I opted for kebab bowls for me and the husband Chicken and beef. She grilled the kabobs to order and fried a side of falafel. For takeout I put a little of everything in my bowl. Never really cared for eggplant, but the eggplant salad is a must try. They were out of tziki , but to my benefit. The garlic sauce mixed with harissa is amazing. I'm not fond of cilantro however the green sauce is also a must try. Everything is fresh filling but not bloaty. I will be back. This is the best Mediterranean food I have ever had. Most places are usually just mediocre, but this place had me thinking about my next visit! I got the beef and lamb rice bowl with onions, cucumbers and peppers. For the sauce, I chose jalapeños and cilantro (was not spicy - well at least to me). This combo was so damn good. I added the 6 pc falafel. These were the best falafels I have ever had. I hated falafels before this but this place made it fresh and it was delicious!!! I dipped my falafels in garlic sauce, was so good!!!! The employee told me that the falafels pairs well with the sesame sauce, so that will be the next item to try. There isn't much choice of restaurants in Lawrence, KS... but this place has impressed me. Some people may be turned off by the location but it's awesome, because you get to fill up on your gas tank, buy food and purchase/check your power ball ticket!!! doesn't get any better than this! read more

I love this place! It is very reasonably priced and has a good array of items. You can get a bowl with either hummus, rice, or salad base which gives good variety. They also have more sauce options than your typical gyro place (tzatziki, tahini, zhoug, harissa, toum). The falafel is delicious and the hummus is super creamy. If you get a side with your wrap, then you get a free 32 oz drink as well. I also like that they lightly grill your wrap, which helps keep it from falling apart. This is REALLY good food. And, it's very affordable. The staff are friendly and helpful. I had a Greek salad topped with gyro meat. In most places, I drown the gyro meat in tzatziki sauce, because it's been over cooked and is dry. Here, it's perfectly done, I simply had the salad tossed in sumac dressing and it was WONDERFUL. It was very quick and very convenient take out. And, of course, just very good food. read more
