This wasn't my first time but this is my first review. I hadn't been to impressed with this restaurant in the past. My friend suggested going here tonight as it is close to where she works. I got there before my friend & didn't have to wait too long before I was greeted by a hostess. She allowed me to sit down without my friend, who was going to be there shortly. I didn't catch her name but she was very friendly, professional & knew her job. She took my name & my friend's name so she would know who she was when she showed up & could send her over to our table. I was inquiring on making a reservation for a large group & she was able to answer this for me & tell me the stipulations on the menu & party size. I felt like it took a little bit of time before the waitress came over. When she did finally come over she was very pleasant, showed up with a big smile on her face & introduced herself. You could tell she really enjoyed her job. I gave her my drink order & as she was walking off my friend showed up. She came back & grabbed her drink order. Our waitress was Grace. She was very patient with us as we were having trouble deciding on what to order. There are a lot of menu options, not just seafood. They did have their current market price listed on the menu so you wouldn't have to wonder or wait to ask when trying to decide if a lobster or another market item was something you may want for dinner but wanted to know the price first. Great feature! It seemed like it took my friend & I forever to decide on our dinner. Grace came back a few times to see if we had decided on something yet. She had a smile on her face each time & wasn't annoyed that we were having trouble deciding. Once we finally did she was able to get all my simple requests taken care of. See I'm a picky eater, who asks lots of questions & wants things a certain way. Such as in the wedge salad. I don't like blue cheese dressing or crumble. I also don't like bacon on my salad nor my salad dressing on the salad but on the side. I also don't like sliced/crumbled eggs on my salad. With all these crazy, simple requests she was able to get my salad order correct. Our food didn't take very long to come out. The wedge salad was good but their Ranch salad dressing wasn't the best. The wedge was nice & fresh. I got the chicken tenders plain & they were yummy! Very tender & moist. I can't stand dried out/over cooked chicken. It just ruins it. I wasn't a fan of their honey mustard sauce. Seemed to have a strong vinegar taste. If they had something like Ken's honey mustard salad dressing to dip my chicken in it would have been fabulous! I got a side of onion rings that they make their own batter from scratch. They came out cold & I had to send them back. Grace said she was sorry & took them away & brought us hot ones right away. Still with a pretty smile on her face. I got the mac & cheese plain with no additional fixings you could order. It wasn't too bad. Didn't have thick cheese to it but it was thin through out. I must say my eyes & hungry are always bigger then what my big tummy can hold. So I did have to take my food home with me. I really wanted the lobster mac & cheese but found it to be very expensive ($25) & didn't want to pay that price. We were tempted with a fried banana cheesecake (I believe that is what it was) that we had to pass up on. As I already had some sweets at home waiting for me. Grace was a wonderful waitress. Back in my early 20's I use to be a waitress & she did everything I would have. She checked on us, cleared away the dirty/empty dishes & made sure our waters were filled. I definitely would go back here to try some of the other food that I almost ordered instead. Loved how when I parked & walked up to the building which looked like the back side. Not sure if there was another entrance but there was a few doors here & they actually had signs over them telling you that one entrance was the bakery, one was the restaurant & the other some place called Tino's. I'm sure I would of gotten lost & gone in the wrong door if they didn't have these signs up to let you know what was what. The only thing that drove me crazy was where we sat. We were seated at the table right next to the fish tank. I didn't even notice it there until I had a small kid screeching in my ear. Scared the salad out of me! They have a bench in front of the fish tank so kids can stand on it & that's what some of these small children who came to visit the tank did. It was noisy behind me with these small kids talking about all the fish & asking their Dad questions about them. I was trying to catch up with my friend but was getting distracted with the noisy little ones behind me. Luckily they didn't stay there the whole time but different kids came & went. So next time I will definitely request not to have the table next to the fish tank! read more

A group of us met here for dinner last night. This venue has been another of my drive-bys that I've always wanted to go to,but for various reasons hadn't. So last night we had among us 3 May birthdays to celebrate.. I had ordered and prepaid a cake from their awesome bakery to have afterwards. Our wonderful server arrived promptly and took our beverage orders. Most of had wine and a few sangria. She filled our water glasses and asked if we wanted to order appetizers or our meals. We chose to order our meals. Being a vegetarian perusing the menu I admit that nothing was really calling me. I kept it safe and ordered a Greek salad. Most of my dining companions ordered seafood. I am highly allergic to seafood and most fish and it always ends up being a conversation. Sometimes uncomfortable & other times not. When I dine out I can't have my plate delivered on the same as another's if they have ordered ex: shrimp etc. In the kitchen things could be an entirely different story, but usually the venues are very accommodating... Nothing like an episode of someone going into shock with another jabbing them with an EpiPen to clear out the place! Last night went well . No issues We finished up and out came the cake with lit candles... It was a strawberry gateau whipped cream ensemble garnished with fresh strawberries. Very pretty .. our server took it back to the kitchen where it was cut and plated. I found it to be very light and luscious at the same time... everyone seemed to like it. We later decided to head upstairs to Tinio's ... I really liked it much more than downstairs. It's ultra modern with a Mediterranean flare . The outdoor area features a large fire pit with surrounding seating. The menu is very different than the basic one downstairs... More to my liking. So the plan is that our next visit we will make the reservation upstairs read more

Had dinner there on March 5 early evening. Two of the four entrees served were cold, and had to be returned to the kitchen. The waitress had to be told two times for each request. Men's restroom was absolutely filthy and stunk. No paper towels and sink area was flooded with water. Have dined here many times with no previous bad experiences. However, will not return. read more

We've been coming here for years. I've had more good experiences than bad, but in recent years the quality of food preparation is inconsistent, at best. Last month, I ordered the filet mignon for dinner and it was very tough. I started with onion soup, which was the best part of the meal. Today I ordered the spinach, tomato, feta quiche, which was a special. There was no feta or tomato in the quiche and the piece was small, overdone, and served over hidden mashed potatoes to make it look like a normal-size slice of quiche. It had no flavor at all. My husband had the turkey dinner and it was great. Eventually, I'm going to give up, but it would be nice if the food quality would normalize. It was always reliably delicious. read more

We chose the Galley Hatch for our 60th Birthday celebration and they did not disappoint. First they sat us down and said we can do mostly anything you'd like. They made suggestions when they did not have something and they just made it so easy. They where so very open and considerate on ever situation. They let us pick cakes from the their own bakery (delicious) we even changed our minds and they smiled. If we spoke to an employee, even if they where not working with our group, they smiled and helped. It's like a chain restaurant dressed up to look fancy with high prices. The food was cold and low quality for the price. I had veal Parmesan and my aunt had a make your own pasta dish. We were laughing when it said to add peas to her dish it would be 4$. Veal parm was okay, but probably the worst I've ever had at that price point. My beer was warm and tasted old so I ordered a rum and coke for my second drink. It was all coke and it was tiny. Really disappointed, but the desserts were incredible. I debated on whether to leave a review or not but I was so disappointed in the customer service I just experienced. I ordered a dinner and unfortunately there was a fly that landed on my food once and then would not leave and it happened about 10 more times and I flagged the waitress down and told her. She saw the fly brought over a manager and the manager's response was, "it is cold out so they are looking for a warm environment." Completely dismissive and acting like it's a normal occurrence. Food is fair. You know it's going to just be ok when all meals come with a choice of baked potato or rice pilaf and the dishes aren't comprised of their own specific sides that match the dish. With that being said, it's fine for a night out with kids. Nachos are just ok and lacking chips - way more cheese than chips. Warm feta dip was yummy. Family has been living in Hampton, New Hampshire for over 70 years if not more and the Galley Hatch became the place to go as it grew into a New England staple. We decided on take out tonight. Ordered the Cheese Steak sub and the Reuben sandwich. Fries were COLD and so undercooked we barely ate them. Onion rings were tepid at best, over coated and under cooked as well, with globs of mushy, gummy batter on them. Cheese steak was absolutely tasteless,despite the added onions and mushrooms. Cheddar cheese on it was also tasteless. The whole sandwich had a weird taste to it, questioning whether we should even it. Yes, you are a busy restaurant on Saturday night but this is just wrong. If you tell me the food would be ready in 30 minutes, the kitchen should cook and take out staff expo accordingly. The young lady on the phone was so pleasant and efficient, please wotk to get the rest of take out efficient as well. On the outside The Galley Hatch looks like a quaint New England restaurant. It does not, frankly, look like it would serve the amazing food it does. My husband, 2 daughters and I went in with fair expectations. A friend had suggested this restaurant to us and well, I'm a picky eater. My children are just as bad. I couldn't decide between the stuffed lobster and well I can't remember what else. My husband and oldest got tenderloin steaks and my youngest got a cheese burger. I ended up going with the lobster. I've had lobster almost all over the world. Name a place and I'm sure I've had it there. East Coast, West Coast, even in Europe. The best lobster EVER is to be found at THE GALLEY HATCH in Hampton, NH. The best steak? (This coming from a Texas girl) THE GALLEY HATCH in Hampton New Hampshire. And according to my youngest? The best Cheese Burger? THE GALLEY HATCH in Hampton, New Hampshire. I begged to talk to the chef and Al was humble and very kind. He gave praise to his staff and told us he loved what he did and let me tell you? It showed in the way the food tasted. My oldest mentioned him going on tv and winning millions.. but he said "I'm happy here and I love what I do." I know this is long winded.. but trust me. I'm a foodie and this place blows away anywhere I've ever eaten. (Except my mommas and daddy's lol..) you have to go to THE GALLEY HATCH. Normally The Galley Hatch is one of my favorite restaurants. They have the best prime rib I have ever had BUT their Captain Platter on Tuesday evening the 25th of July was totally disappointing. For $39.99 I expected a good sized portion of food. What I got was some clams, which I moved onto a side plate for my husband to eat, 4 scallops, 3 shrimp, 3 small pieces of haddock, 4 onion rings and a few fries. I was really surprised by simply how small for a fried platter of seafood it was. I most definitely would never order this again there. I will stick to making sure I go on the nights they service prime rib. My husband got the chicken tenders and they were not the quality we expect from Galley Hatch he said they were more fast food like. They were very browned over cooked or the oil needed changing. Feta dip is always amazing and that I give 10 starts to but the captains platter for a seafood steak place go for the steak I can't recommend the platter. read more

I would select another restaurant for seafood. The food was horrible (cold & dry), the waitress was rude and there was plastic in my drink. The deck was nice but overlooked a parking lot. Have eaten here in the past and the food/drinks were great but not this time. When I called to talk to them about the food and service the person who I spoke with identified herself as the manager and then called me a liar. We will never go back. I had to ask for the bread... The baked potato came out and I didn't realize that it was just a plain baked potato so I asked for sour cream and water. There were 3 tiny shrimp, 3 undercooked scallops, a piece of salmon that was the equivalent of 2 bites and soggy fish that was supposed to be haddock but was on the brown side. I came here this evening with a party of 7 -- my parents, my Grammy, my brother, my sister in law, and her two children. Upon arriving I was extremely thirsty and just dying for a glass of water. Once I took that sip of water, everything was all better. I ordered the tuna salad on white bread (my brother's stepdaughter ordered the same thing as me) with fries on the side and it turned out to taste pretty good. Extremely disappointed! Last week their Thanksgiving take-out dinners had a deadline of November 23rd. Today (November 23rd) when I went online to place my order, it said that the deadline was Saturday, November 21st. I called the Galley Hatch and was told "uh ya, sorry, we over extended ourselves so had to change the date so, no we can't take any more orders". I made my Thanksgiving dinner plans around this and now have to figure out some sort of last minute back up plan. This literally has made me sick to my stomach. As a local small business owner I find that this was handled unprofessionally. Probably will never go there because of this...And definitely will pass this story along to others. read more

First impression of this place is that it's casual with an upscale feel and based on the other reviews here, we decided to stop in for lunch. We were greeted by a large bakery counter, an assortment of books, and some gift items unrelated to the restaurant it seemed. We waited a few minutes before we were seated. The dining room was pretty full for a little after the typical lunch hour, so we took this as a good sign. As we perused the menu and the list of specials, we noticed that the only person in the restaurant close to our age was the waitress. Very popular with the over 55 set apparently. The decor reflects the same. Not necessarily a bad thing of course. I kind of felt like I was on the set of The Golden Girls. My husband ordered a steak and shrimp combo with garlic mashed potatoes and the vegetable side was green beans and carrots. I had the lobster macaroni and cheese special. No complaints at all about the lobster mac. It was generously portioned, had plenty of lobster, and was really very good. My husbands meal was not so good. The steak was most definitely frozen and didn't look very appetizing. It was overcooked and had an odd texture to it. The shrimp were probably frozen too. Given the location, this is inexcusable. The garlic mashed potatoes had no garlic as far as we could tell. Charging the prices they do, the quality should have been much, much better. Very disappointing. Our waitress was nice, but we had to ask for refills. Not good. On the way out, I stopped at the bakery counter and purchased a 7 layer brownie. Now THAT was fresh.
