If you are into the old steakhouse vibe this fits the bill. HOWEVER the "view" that is advertised, is subject to a tour bus that drops off tourists and parks at said "view" . It totally blocks the view for the customers who were there seated and eating. I mean straight across the whole view. (and there isn't a lot of view) All I could see was the white bus and logo. No more water! We paid the bill at the desk and mentioned to the hostess the view we had until the bus pulled in. She said we can take a walk on the boardwalk and still get a view...WOW REALL. Bottom line: waitress was good, food and portions good (no bread was offered, saw it on tables as I was walking out) view WAS GOOD until it was blocked by the bus! As of right now, the Galley is temporarily closed. I do not know if this is government mandated or if the lack of customers has forced it to shut down for a while, but I thought now would be a good time for me to reminisce about one of my favorite spots during my travels. A long, long time ago I would spend weeks at a time in St. Ignace for work. It's a quaint tourist town with plenty to do. Not a lot of fast food options, but that's because you're meant to slow down and relax. After a long day at work, why wouldn't you want to go to a cozy and well-known fixture in the town to chill out for a while? Smoked white fish spread. That is all. You could make a meal out of it if you wanted to. Just ask for a side of veggies and some crackers and you're good to go. One thing about the north is that they are the smoked fish experts. You really cannot go wrong with it. Along with have pretty amazing menu staples, the view is top tier. That combined with good food, great service, and lovely company make for a good night. Any fish dish you get will be delicious, I can guarantee that. Haven't ventured out and tried anything else because the fish always called my name. The best way to characterize this place is: would I go back? no. Would I discourage you from going there? Also, no. Our server Niel was great. Friendly and fast. Provided all the info you would want and quick to take care of us. The big issues here are quality and price. We started with the whitefish dip. Looked great but it was a huge bowl of cream cheese with very little fish and largely flavorless. The bread that came with it was good, but not near enough and they charge you for more. For dinner I had the Chicken Alfredo. My wife had a Prime Rib French Dip. The Alfredo sauce was excellent, the pasta was good and well cooked. But the chicken was VERY clearly cooked (probably from frozen) well ahead of time and reheated (likely in a microwave). It was dry, overcooked and somehow still chewy. My wife's prime rib was also definitely precooked and put in a warmer. Which they stated was the same prime rib as the $40 entree. It was dry.. very dry. The fries were meh. Probably a frozen bag fried up fast. For the price, $80 for all that and I had water, you'd expect FAR better quality. If all you compare it to is other St Ignace places, maybe this is 3 and a half stars, but I can't offer more than two of I'm being fair. We were the only ones in the restaurant during a holiday weekend. What was noticed first was a musty old smell when you walk in. As we were taken to the table I noticed that the carpets were very worn and looked dirty. We sat down and decided that we were not going to drop about $100 for dinner at this restaurant. (There was still plenty of time before closing.) - Did I mention food quality? - Decor is the old-fashioned dark wood and brown carpet lakeside cabin style. We were there in the last 90 minutes of dinner service on a weeknight, so few other patrons were in the dining room. My companion & I both ordered the broiled walleye dinner w/ baked potato. The only way I know to make a broiled to order in-season fish fillet watery is to use a frozen fillet. It was a large serving, taste was okay, but texture varied from very wet at thick end to undercooked (?!?!) where tail end was tucked underneath to maintain thickness. No seasoning, but between sauce, lemon wedge, salt, and pepper on table you can season to your own taste. Vegetable medley was hot, but mushy and overcooked. Do they leave them on a steam table all day? It included wavy slices of something that may have been carrots in a previous month, or maybe not - they were dark brown and tasted only salty, so it's impossible to be sure. Baked potato was cooked to barely past raw, so it was edible but very firm. Two dinners, one pop, one beer = $70!!! Plus tip. Even for a tourist town this is far too pricey for the food quality and service. They do charge a small extra fee for using credit card, but the two prices are printed on your bill. Oh, where to begin? Well, I didn't get food poisoning, so I'll give them an extra star for that. This was a pretty abysmal dining experience in the Upper Peninsula during our summer vacation to the area. Let's just say this was one of the most lackluster experiences I had in the UP. First of all, everything in the Saint Ignace area seemed to stop serving food kinda early. It was weird. Peak tourism season and every restaurant was closing around 9 p.m. That was odd. Nothing seemed too appetizing or was open by the time we went out, so we wound up here. My husband and I were open to dining here, although it didn't seem too interesting when we walked in. No one greeted us at the front. The ambiance was nothing special, kinda dated, a little "seafarer tacky" in design and not terribly clean. Nonetheless, they were open and located on the water, so we figured why not give it a shot, right? We were hungry and wanted a decent drink, preferably a craft beer on tap, and we assumed the menu would be teeming with excellent local "catch of the day" options. We were eventually seated near the back of the restaurant near the bar area, or what passed for the bar area. Our server came over to our table after I had noticed her sitting at another table for more than a minute talking to a friend. We asked about beverage options from the bar and she told me, "Anything you want, we can get it for you." Great, I thought. I replied, "What's on tap?" She replied back they don't actually have any beers on tap, only bottles and cans (primarily cans). Hmm. Clearly, I couldn't exactly get "anything that I wanted." Bummer. I opted for craft beer from a bottle. Sorry, I don't drink out of cans. I'm not camping in the woods with my buddies at the age of 18 drinking Miller Lite out of a case of canned beer. That's not me. At any rate, the craft beer selection seemed pretty run of the mill. The first two selections I wanted off their beer menu, they were out of. Sorry again. Eventually, I settled on something else. It was fine, but served in a dirty glass. I pointed it out to the waitress, who was completely nonplussed by the fact that the glass was dirty and had remnants of a dead bug on it. Hmm. She asked if I wanted a new glass. Gee, I don't know. Did I?? Yes, the reason I pointed it out was not part of show and tell, but only because I wanted a new glass. Seriously. We ordered a fish and chips special, which the server recommended. It came with house made coleslaw, which was too vinegary for my taste. Whether it was made in house or not is debatable, but I didn't care for the flavor for the most part. The fish was okay, but swathed in too much batter. The fries were room temperature and didn't have adequate seasoning. I expected better from a restaurant located right near the water where fresh fish is caught daily. Our server never came over again to check on our table. It felt like she technically had punched out or something for the night. We flagged her down to request the bill. I also noticed a few other random employees still taking care of customers having a drink at the bar in between checking on tables, etc. I don't think it's a good look, but that is my opinion. It's not like they were even closed yet. As for the food, it was okay, not very good, definitely a bit overpriced. The service was haphazard, the beer selection was not so great and they don't have beer on tap. Like I said before, the cleanliness and decor were underwhelming and the overall dining experience didn't rate too highly as one that we would consider ever again if in the area. Overall, it felt as if we had wasted our money. If there had been a Taco Bell near our hotel, I think that would've been a better option, but there was none around. read more

This used to be a staple of St Ignace for both locals and tourists. "Casual family dining" - not anymore. The new owners kept the name and that's about it. Most all of the famous Galley items are gone (or are no longer the same) and they jacked the prices - a lot. The parking lot always used to be packed. When we stopped first time since reopening with the new owners the parking lot was completely empty. We should have kept driving. 2 burgers, a BLT, a french dip, and 4 cokes - $100 with tip. No longer $$. And the food was 'meh'. For those prices the food should have been exceptional. read more

This is one of my favorite dining spots on the Upper Peninsula. I would say it has the absolute best breakfast in Saint Ignace and you wont go wrong with lunch or dinner also. All of their food has the right taste. Their location is sweet on the shore of Lake Huron. Being a retired sailor, I really like the nautical décor throughout this comfortable restaurant. We went here for breakfast on a Saturday morning. We we're informed that all they had was a buffet for $15 per per. We we're ok with that at the time. The breakfast was nothing more than a hotel continental breakfast. There was bacon which was a bonus but I think everything else came from Gordon Foods. The eggs were dry. We listened and ate here for dinner on our last visit to St. Ignace. We were so pleased we went. Here's the rundown: -Lots of fresh, local fish on the menu. On our visit, we tried the several of the local fish including whitefish, perch, walleye, and trout. It's always great when you can have dinner and the entree was caught just a few hours prior. Delicious! -Lots of window seating with a view of the lake. It made for a pretty sunset dinner for my family. -We had a super nice server. She checked on us regularly and kept us filled up with everything we needed. -This is a very low key, unpretentious, family friendly place. It's easy to get in, have a tasty dinner, and head out. It's nice to have a place like this when you are traveling with a 6 year old. -The interior is a bit dated and dark, but don't worry, the food is yummy! I ordered a ribeye and was given a sirloin. I sent the steak back and when the waitress returned she said that the chef insisted that the steak was a ribeye. Wrong! Further, the waitress never checked with us as to whether our food was ok. We had to call her over. I left the steak uneaten. No inquiry was made as to why the food was left. After a small win at the casino we came here for dinner seeking lake trout. We found it! I ordered the "senior" portion which was about $3.00 cheaper - and smaller. It came with two sides. I got the sautéed mushrooms. They're canned - don't order them. I also got the onion rings which were not made in house. They were pretty generic and small. It's sort of like the spot where most of the people who walks in here are the ones who'd say, "I've been coming here since the dinosaurs walked the earth." Yea, it's that one. The cole slaw is a tad bit bland and the rice pilaf tasted like it was about to turn. Tossed salad is really good and had a good variety of stuff in it. Also another good thing is their fish. They serve a ginormous portion for a very good price. If you enjoy eating fish, this is the place to pig out on it. Yes the setting is a little out dated, yes the food can probably get some overhauling, and maybe they can redecorate a little. Service is pretty good as well. That right there makes up for a lot. I am beginning to think that people who visit this town have never actually been to a good restaurant! This is not a 4 or 5 star place, sheesh! This place is fine for a simple dinner. Its like something out of the 50's or 60's, and the glassware looks like it! Its one step above a diner, with the usual types of food you would expect. Decor is bland. It is perfectly edible, but there is nothing spectacular here. You get your salad dressing in a plastic cup on the side of the dish, that should give you a level set. Had a great meal with fresh perch, perfectly cooked jumbo shrimp and beef barley soup that was so good we had to buy more and take it with us. They use left over prime rib in their soup and it is so tender and perfectly seasoned. The perch portion was generous and the "lighter side" portion of shrimp was just right for someone that doesn't eat a lot. The only thing that wasn't quite up to par were the onion rings. We went looking for a good fish restaurant and this seemed to be highly rated. I don't mind paying premium price for something if it's worth it, but from our experience was just not. Expectations are different when you pay 5-$10 vs $15-$20 vs $25-$30. This really should be in the $15-$20 range. At that range i would have given higher rating, but for $25-$30/plate I'm expecting something a little more. I had walleye and it was good but not worth $27. Also paid $15 for appetizer of breaded calamari which was just awful. There wasn't anything else that could justify the higher prices. I ordered whitefish pate and grilled whitefish and she ordered coconut shrimp. Everything was excellent, I particularly like the whitefish which was very mild.
