This was a family and extended family favorite for years. It seems things have changed at The Gangplank. I had just purchased my kids & my nephew malts at Bentley's down the street and we decided it was time to eat lunch. My son was trying to ask the greeter if they could bring the malts in. She cut him off and wouldn't listen. I asked they want to know if they can bring there malts in. I was told no - understandably, these were from a different business. That was not the reason I was given. I was told that with the liquor license they could allow outside beverages in because "she couldn't tell what was in their cups". Kinda shocked that it was implied that an 8,9 & 10 yr old could have alcohol in them. The kids were putting their drinks in the car while the greeter was seating me. I did not see the treasure chest where it has alwYs been in the past and commented. I was told that they moved it in a snippy tone. Our waitress came over, handed us our menus and said "drinks are on the back". My son asked what drinks they had & Waitress rolled her eyes. I smiled and told my son drinks are on the bank. My daughter then changed her drink order, "Waitress" yet again rolled her eyes. It was then time to place our order. My son does not like fries and asked for applesauce. He was not allowed that change because applesauce is for the kids meals only. Ok -weird that she wouldn't substitute. I ordered a bacon cheeseburger. She suggested a bbq bacon burger which had toppings -including the BBQ sauce that I did not want. I said "no, I do not want that. I do not like onions, don't want the BBQ sauce on my burger. I don't want that". She then said she'd have to charge me for the cheese and bacon, which I expected. Our food gets to us. I take the top off of my burger to put ketchup on it. There was TONS of BBQ sauce on my burger and my bacon was very burnt. The meat was not the quality that it was in the past. After two bites I set it aside. When the waitress came back around I told her this wasn't the burger that I ordered and that I did not want a replacement. She did not give me a hard time My son took 3 bites out of his burger. Bacon was very burnt. I took the top off of his burger and there was a piddle of grease on top of his burger. So he left hungry because he couldn't eat his burger and doesn't like fries. My daughter ate portions of her burger. Fries were great as in the past. Everytime in the past we always got the dipping sauce with all meals that included fries. My nephew got a small container of dipping sauce this time. He only ordered the fries. No refills of our drinks were offered. They no longer serve ice cream. We get the bill. My meal was not charged. I. Looking at it I see that my son's burger was charged for both American cheese and blue/feta cheese. My daughter (8) approached the waitress to explain it to the waitress. (She politely approached her, said excuse me and was smiling). Waitress didn't even bother to look at the bill, cut her off mid-sentence and said that's the charge for cheese. We were waiting for Waitress to come to the table to pay/discuss incorrect bill. All 3 kids were saying they were upset they loved it there in the past. My son said "I don't ever want to come here again". A man who working there was wearing a tshirt with "maintenance" on the back. Maintenance man was clearing off a table nearby. He heard my son, turned around and said in a snotty tone "that's your choice". Waitress finally comes back to take our $. I started to explain the extra charge and she cut me off mid-sentence. "That's the charge for cheese" in an impatient way. I laid he bill out and had to point out the charges to her. She dug thru our order and said that is for the bacon. I was sorely disappointed in our visit to The Gangplank. As I said this was a favorite place for my family and extended family. We go there a few times every August. After our experience I told my family about this and found out they have had similiar experiences. My family who lives in St Ignace and some in Paradise have stopped going here due to the treatment they have received. My brother in law tried the drive thru to puck up a call in order a few times this year. He was blatently ignored. They have been there when they could here the cook swearing from the kitchen. Music was playing so loud other times they couldn't have conversation at the table. What has happened to this once family friendly place? It used to be so nice. Staff was so nice, patient with little kids and attentive. Staff used to joke around and laugh. Now the staff is rude & impatient. The food used to be great, not so much anymore This was where 14 of us would go to as a group and we'd all have a great time with great food. Is there new owners? I wanted very badly to like this place. All other reviews led me to believe so. The good: small local joint, plenty of parking, clean, organized and friendly. The bad: based on going here for ice cream, two of the items I wanted on the menu could not be made. The shipwreck sundae was a flop since the bananas they had were going bad and the second backup option of a turtle sundae failed because no one turned on the hot fudge. Probably one of the more disappointing ice cream experiences I've had. They serve food too and the place was crowded with eaters but the turtle sundae was just so-so. I ordered the Turtle and it had no carmel, crushed peanuts instead of pecans and a pre-fab waffle bowl. When in a tourist town bring on the quality high fat ingredients! I'm on vacation and ready to indulge but this was not the place. read more

First time in St. Ignace and must say this place was great. Definitely not a gourmet meal but a great place for a hearty meal. I had the two ton tessy and it did not disappoint. My wife got the the fresh lemon chicken and was very very pleased. My brother-in-law got the whitefish tacos and the half slab ribs(he's a competitive eater) and LOVED them both. This was the worst restaurant! We were told the wait would be 90 minutes. After 45 minutes of waiting and watching all other parties walk up and be seated we asked the wait person about the wait. He had an attitude and gave us seating at that moment. After 20 minutes more of waiting more parties were seated and we're served drinks immediately. We asked the waiter if we can order drinks his response you have to wait were busy. This place was the worst after wasting our time we exited and went to a little place down the street who greatly appreciated our business. Thank you BC Pizza four your great service. read more

We were in St Ignace and used Yelp to find this restaurant as it received good reviews. Decent beer selection. My family shared the Whitefish Fingers appetizer. Disappointed - tasted good but a very small portion of fish. It was adequate for one person, not a family of four. My son and I had the Whitefish sandwich which was pretty tasty. My wife had a chicken Mediterranean flatbread - pretty good. My daughter had the mushroom flatbread and was very disappointed. Service was good. I would say the restaurant was OK. We could be back but probably will try something else while in St Ignace. read more

Pulled pork wasn't very good, but my boyfriend enjoyed his fish tacos. The fries were good too! Seating and parking is a little tricky at times. read more

The food is the best in St Ignace. Seating is on a deck with vinyl drops when the weather is bad. If it's busy your food is going to take a while so be prepared, but in the meantime they have cheap beer, only cans and the view isn't bad. It's definitely worth checking out and in my opinion much better than the other places in town. Try the ribs! read more

My friend and I stopped here during an overnight stay at St Ignace.The atmosphere is great, the drinks are cold, the food is really just average at best. I think it's better as an app and drink place rather than dinner. The service was really slow the night we went, but did seem they were not properly staffed at the time. The location is good. Unfortunately the food IS good, but the service is terrible. This is a local restaurant where we have been told that we can not place orders for more than 6 people. We order out several times a week for about 10 people but have been told we back up the kitchen. We have tried to accommodate the restaurant in numerous ways-calling day before, writing out the order and dropping it off-but are always met with a rude response. The last-and final time-the cook could be heard in the background saying "nope, not going to happen". I used to recommend this restaurant to out of towners, but no longer. I've never come across a restaurant so determined to turn away business. Gangplank-you got your wish. read more

Delicious, reasonably priced food and a great variety of beer. The service was friendly but very slow and disorganized. I'm sure it's a wonderful patio in the summer, but in May the plastic walls didn't provide much shelter. They also couldn't get the gas heaters working. read more

Great whitefish tacos and veggie pita! They make their fries homemade so they tend to be a little soft. Nice view of the marina and lake.

Quaint little lunch spot in the cute city of Ignace! all their seating is outdoor so no matter where you sit you get a great view of Lake Michigan and Mackinac Island. Service is average but all the food is delicious, as well as a nice selection of craft and local beers. read more

Great little place in St. Ignace. Good food, good beer. Great waitstaff. This is my second time coming within a week. I was just up here last weekend and came right back up again. Don't wast your time spending your tourist dollars in this town if you have well behaved dogs and want to have a quick bite and beverage on an outdoor patio. This town is NOT dog friendly. There are plenty of places in Northern MI that allow dogs on their outside seating areas... Go there instead. We will not be back here and will spend our money elsewhere in MI. read more

Beer was cold, outdoor seating only, mostly great. Fries were wilty and the bacon on the club sandwich wasn't perfect. We had a good time.

The fried pickles were great and so was the angry shrimp po boy. Decent drink selection and a great summer atmosphere.

We love stopping here when we're in the Upper Peninsula!!! Our kids especially love the Cluckin Waffle!!!

We ate here after a long day on the island. They were busy, but grabbed a cils pop and peach sangria (super yummy!!) And took the menu to look over. Once seated our awesome server Drew took our order, ribs for me and shrimp for my girlfriend. Both were very good. Grilled veggies came as the side as well as a potato choice. We had the Cajun shrimp tacos, BBQ pork sandwich and sweet potato fries. Everything was phenomenal! Cajun seasoning was perfect and the fries were obviously homemade. Atmosphere was awesome too- vibe felt like we should be on a bayou in Louisiana but we were overlooking Lake Huron, which was the perfect touch. Went there for dinner and we really enjoyed it. Started with the loaded buffalo fries and the teenager polished then off. Blue cheese, buffalo sauce, and celery on the fries were a tasty combination. My husband had the blue cheese burger which also had some other cheese in it and it was well cooked. I had the lemon garlic chicken with zucchini and baked potato. I do not like zucchini usually- but these were great (the bacon helped with that.) The chicken was tasty, potato good. Also had the guacamole humus and it was super tasty. read more

Had dinner here last night, I had the California Buffalo sandwich with the sweet potato wedges, hubby had the pulled pork deluxe. Not sure what all the hype is about.. We ordered the Greek Taco and the Poor Boy sandwich. The Greek was good (not great), my wife's sandwich was spicier than expected, and had a lot of sauce on it (kind of messy). Both the homemade fries and sweet potato wedges were nothing special. I also was disappointed with the Cole slaw. All in all, it was just an okay place. We wouldn't go back, so not sure why others are rating it so high. read more
