Michael of The Garage Door Store responded promptly with a very competitive estimate compared to the others. There was also no need for a "diagnostic" fee charge as many others companies required. Our arranged time for the repair Monday morning was the earliest in the week as well. He arrived on time and got it all working fine again in about an hour. In the past had good service from this garage door company. They've serviced my garage door on two previous occasions with timely and efficient service. Unfortunately that was not the case the third time around. We had the spring break which was less than 1.5 years old. I called for service and was given a repair date the following day. I stayed home from work and the person was a no call no show. I called and left multiple messages with no follow up. Again, My first two experience with this company was very good so I was surprised and disappointed. Ultimately I ended up going with another SJ garage door company which came out the same day and repaired/replaced the broken springs. They told me that those units generally last 10 years and that the part should've been under warranty. I'm on sure if that's why I didn't get a callback. We had an accident at our house were our garage door was damaged by a car colliding with it on Friday night. I called The Garage Door Store first thing in the morning on Saturday, and was successfully able to get an appointment window from 3-5PM in the afternoon. I called at 4:20PM to see if the individual was still going to make it before 5, and was reassured a person would be one their way over. By 6PM, no one had arrived, and I called again, and the individual at the store was shocked to know no one had showed up and told me once more someone would be over shortly. By 6:30PM an individual came out, acknowledged the extensive damage to the door, and properly took the necessary information, and told me I would hear from them first thing Monday morning when they could get me a price quote. Monday came and went, and I received no phone call. As the door was in a precarious state, I called on Tuesday around noon and asked when I could expect a quote, and once again the individual at the store was shocked to know no one had called and told me I would get a call by the end of the day. Not knowing whether I could trust that, I called another business I found on Yelp, and was told they too could come check out the door that evening. The other business not only arrived, but were able to instantly get me information that the door I had was no longer being manufactured, and the easiest solution might be to fix the existing damaged door. They took an hour to not only work the door back, but also fix it and get it working again. All this time, the Garage Door Store had yet to call and even now a week later, they have yet to call. OMG - I have NEVER had such HORRIBLE customer service! yes the garage door DOES work, but what is the point when you can't get a hold of John to help install it, finish the job and program the remotes??? you have to leave about 3-4 messages to get ONE call back - IF that. he arrives late for the install, doesn't even call to say that he is running late (you have to call him), tells you that he is "right around the corner and should be there in 2-3 mins" (takes 10 more mins!)....forgets to install the outside keypad, so you have to call him 4 more times to get him to come out. He makes 2-3 promises that it will be there in a few days...then he installs the outside keypad on the wrong house! After you read the instructions and try to program it yourself, the (2) car remotes don't work and so you call him (after you call his voicemail and it is full - several times). he says he will call you in the am (didn't happen). I mean seriously? HORRIBLE customer service! Unfortunately I paid upfront! I will NEVER use him again and will tell EVERYONE I know about this experience! read more

They came to my house in August, 2013 and took a deposit for a garage door replement. After 20+ calls to get an appointment and FIVE months of waiting, they finally agreed to refund my deposit. Heard good things about Kevin on Yelp and from Home Depot, Capitol Express Way. Called him at 4 PM on a Saturday. Kevin came to replace both garage door springs the next morning at 9 AM. He definitely knows what he's doing. It took him less than 1/2 hour to complete the job. And the price was quite reasonable compared to two other quotes. Unfortunately, one of the gears in the garage door opener broke about six hours after the repair. It was probably working too hard to compensate for the broken spring. I called Kevin again on that Sunday evening. He came out the next morning at 8 AM and fixed that as well, for another fee of course. Kevin is a no b.s. kind of guy. The Garage Door Store came out to our house and took care of an annoying little problem with our door. The sunlight that shines in at sunrise/sunset gives problems to the sensor and makes the door reverse back up the tracks. I Googled the problem and tried a few quick fixes like putting toilet paper rolls over the sensors to block the sunlight. That worked for a bit, but eventually lost effectiveness. John came out (on time) and diagnosed that we needed to change out a few things. They only charged us $20 on top of the service charge fee and were in and out in 20 minutes or so. I have no idea what happened to the other poster, but my experience with the Garage Door Store exceeded my expectations. Our garage had been converted to a family room, and we wanted to convert it back to a garage. I managed to find a 16' wood carriage door for a song and we bought it. (We knew we would have to make the existing opening larger for the door to fit, and that it would be a unique job.) To compound things, we had less than a month to convert the space. We called a few garage door places and no-one would touch this job saying it was too difficult. One person gave us a quote but it was for more than a new door would cost. It was at this point we found The Garage Door Store. My husband talked to Kevin (the owner) and he offered to help right away. I stopped by and met Robyn at the store to pick up some parts, and she seemed very nice. We requested an estimate for the installation and Kevin, came out to examine the project. Due to the scope he had his installer Ramon come out to examine it as well. Although it would require a bit of work, they could do it! The price they quoted was more than reasonable too! They were able to fit us in to their schedule, and got the door in for us in record time! We were very pleased with the results, not only did they cut the opening wider to install the garage door, (and reinforced the supports) but they took the time to make sure the front grooves lined up and that the door was level. The installation did result in a few small screw holes where the tracks were going in, but this was something that is easily remedied with some putty and we didn't sweat it. They even put new fascia board on the front so it was a completed door. It not only looks GREAT, but the price was right, the timing was perfect, and they only charged me once the job was completed. I would definitely use them again, and felt very comfortable with them working at our home. read more

I had a one piece two car swing up garage door that I smashed into. It was badly bent up with twisted supports and tangled springs on one side. I wanted to replace it with a conventional segmented roll up door, and had wanted to for a long time, but the cost was prohibitive. Low and behold, Greg called back in less than an hour and said he had returned to his office to get supplies and that he was coming right back to fix it. After several months, we found the garage door stopped working suddenly and completely. I called The Garage Door Store and scheduled appointment. Jesse found the motor needed to be replaced, which was done in the following day, while we were away. A keypad is requested as well for our convenience, and it was installed, however, this left us a little issue. The pass code is easily set, but it requires a ladder to reach the motor's reset button. We don't have a ladder. Ideally, the pass code can be set by any number someone picks and changed to any new numbers by the homeowner, because changing password is done by pushing buttons and doesn't require a ladder. I requested The Garage Door Store, but no response was received upon my request twice. So, I had to schedule a time. In the end, Jesse kindly came back and set the pass code for me. Thank you, Jesse!
