Aries did a great job of replacing our garage door opener and hardware. Our door stopped opening unexpectedly. We called GDI and Aries was there within two hours. He did his best to get it working but couldn't. Our opener and springs were 15 years old and needed replacing. Aries provided an estimate and then reduced it significantly when we explained our budget was stretched for several major repairs. His approach was no pressure and we appreciated that. This will be long. The good: 1. Excellent phone response and scheduling. Very pleasant staff manning the phones. Patient, professional and definitely local. 2. Their technicians are knowledgeable and once one got stuck sorting a problem and he reached out to another technician who promptly joined him and together they took care of the issue. 3. They almost always come on time. Not always but almost always. 4. Technicians are not just knowledgeable; they are also pleasant and professional and good at explaining issues and options. 5. They stand behind their work! The not as good: 1. I twice tried to spend a bunch of money that involved a special order, and that didn't go well. The first time, the guy didn't collect a deposit so they never put the order in and didn't follow up with me. The second time (same issue) they sent an excellent technician in the early evening and while he got everything I needed planned, it got late so he said he'd call the next day to get the order input and collect the deposit. That never happened either. That was weird. It wasn't an inexpensive proposition (I needed a new lower panel for my door that had been damaged by someone closing the door on my car!) 2. My last appointment to make an adjustment was rescheduled 3x. I did not have an urgent need, so the rescheduling was totally fine, but there was poor communication and I did a lot of waiting around, and had to call myself to find out the plan. Very patient phone people as I was frustrated on the phone regarding the poor communication. So I think I would still call them for any needed service due to knowledge and general professionalism, but I'd be very insistent that follow through is promised. (I never did do the special order. These garage door panels are the replacement of what I ordered more than a year and half ago. Initially, they made mistakes of the measurements even after they came to measure themselves at least 5 times already, and there were mismatched pattern. Then we requested to have replacements which took about a year. Finally, we got these replacements with the primer on wood which we don't want. I ordered solid cedar wood garage door with no primer paint as I like the natural grains of wood and would like to stain it ourselves; however, the shop sent me these door and refusing to exchange to a corrected type I paid for. It is extremely upset for spending over thousands of dollars and not getting what I want. read more

The technician was running behind and the office called twice to keep me updated. Great, a company that follows up The visit was quick and the technician said he would have the estimate for me no later than Wednesday afternoon. Guess what never showed up, the estimate. I waited until Friday and I reached out via Yelp again. The person responded promptly and said they would look into the estimate. Apparently the technician suddenly retired. According to the last person that responded to my Yelp message, I was being moved over to the estimating department. It is now Monday and I haven't heard from anyone. My overhead garage door opener was working well except for reduced range for the remotes giving me the opportunity to have three different companies come out to give estimates. Tyler Rhoades from GDI was the only one who gave a thorough inspection, explained exactly what was wrong, did not try to upsell or sell things I did not need and left a paper estimate with three options and the total prices including taxes. It was very easy to call him back. He was the installer too. Though he was expecting a simple replacement usually taking under two hours, he ended up spending over three hours because he had to make bracket modifications and he took the time to program not only the garage door opener remotes but the keypads and remotes for our driveway gate as well. Where do I click for more stars? The springs on our 20-year old garage door broke and we were unable to open or close it. Fortunately, I found Bay Area Overhead Door Co. (AKA GDI Garage Doors) on Google, they are a local family owned business. I called a few minutes before 8:00AM (opening time) and was relieved to hear that they can send us a technician within 4-hours time-frame of my initial call to assess the situation. Troy was our service technician, he was professional and very polite. He gave us a fair estimate for the replacement of the springs and he was able to complete the work in approximately 2-hours. He said it was quicker than most other repairs because we maintained the garage door lubricated so that was helpful in the removal process as the springs had not rusted. Troy was also able to let us know that we would need to replace the rollers in the near future as they are approaching their end of life. The reason we did not have him replace those on the service visit is that would take additional time from his day and he had other appointments to take care of. So we will be in touch again to get the rollers replaced in the near future. If you need service for your garage door, don't hesitate to contact this family owned business. My garage door has been acting up for a while. I noticed that my neighbor had someone working on their garage so I went over to see if they could look at mine. I met Seth and he came over when he had completed my neighbors job. When I operated my door he immediately spotted the issue (broken spring). Our garage door quote was initially provided in 2021 by Bay Area Overhead Door. After waiting for 6 months for our product to get in, which was understandable due to supply chain issues, our CHI door was finally put in at the beginning of 2022. While I was checking in on the status of our garage door in late 2021 it was brought to my attention that Bay Area Overhead Door was acquired by GDI and the final invoicing and payment went to GDI. Needless to say we love our garage door and the contractors who put it in. But now, fast forward 1 year on installation and my garage door needs servicing. It is loud and squeaky when it opens and closes. I called on a Wednesday for a technician to come out and they confirmed that the appointment was scheduled for Friday morning. On Thursday, I was called back by a woman who said they have to cancel because their technicians no longer cover my area. They said they didn't have my contact information, or any access to my invoice, and said they couldn't help. But, guess what, their invoice said GDI and guess who my payment went to...GDI. After pleading with her about how they were not standing by their business and that they were only a 1/2 hour from their service area they said that I would need confirmation from dispatch. When I was forwarded to dispatch she said "I am sorry, sir, but we no longer service your area." and HUNG UP ON ME! When I called back asking for a manager or owner I was told that I was actually speaking to a manager and she said that I am better off going on Google to find another company to help fix my problem. I was also told that the owners of the company are busy and that she would not relay my message to them. Clearly, there are owners reading these comments and I would suggest you really check in with your customer service staff. This is just bad business and like Rosa B. above I plan on making a formal complaint with the CA Board of Contractors, CA Department of Consumer Affairs, attorney and BBB unless my needs are attended to as it is my understanding that this is a requirement to do so by CA Contractor Law. @Michael C. or @Allen M. This company has done a great job at installing our wood garage door (several years ago) and now performing some maintenance on the Marantec garage door opener. I'm not sure why they have a mediocre 3-stars on Yelp, but I have been very content and pleased with their service on both occasions (install and maintenance on the door opener). The staff rep showed up on time during the 2-hr window arrival timeframe, and fixed the problem within an hour. Our door is extremely heavy as it is comprised of wood and steel, and this puts extra strain on the garage door opener. They recommend to have routine maintenance performed every 2 years to ensure proper tension, which the staff rep took care of. After many months of asking them to fix it it and them doing nothing it took a better business bureau complaint and me going directly to the door manufacturer to finally get it fixed. Less than a year after installation it stopped closing and the tried to charge me to fix it. They said the door needed yearly maintainence to adjust the springs to continue functioning. Again last week the door stopped working. I gave up on GDI and called another garage door company who told me that the opener was faulty, it had nothing to do with the springs. My garage door opener has been making extremely loud noises so I decided to give GDI a call and see if they could help. They got me an appointment the same day and their technician Dylan Bruce came to my home to diagnose the issue. Dylan was able to immediately tell me that the bolt drive on my opener is worn out and will pretty much break down in the near future. He told me that this type of drive is no longer produced due to its inefficiency. I found out my garage opener was installed in 2002 so it was 22 years old ! The technician was surprised that it was still working given the age of the motor. Dylan was able to offer me a few options, and I opted to go with the full replacement of the motor since it was so old already. I was given a very competitive price and I decided to move forward with the replacement. I was thrilled to find out that he would be able to have a new unit installed the same day. Dylan got the job done quickly in just under 2 hours and even suggested some additional nylon wheels for the rollers on the door which would help with the sound and longevity of the motor and door. Once everything was installed the garage door was as quiet as can be, no more loud annoying noises ! It rolled up and down smoothly and quietly. The technician Dylan was very knowledgeable, professional, courteous, and cleaned up everything nicely for me. I am very happy with the service he provided and highly recommend GDI and Dylan Bruce to anyone in need of repairs or replacement of a new motor.
