WOW!!! I'm blown away by the transformation at the Gate since the new owner took over! The food is now out of this world, that my middle eastern mom approves of, haha! Their dishes are both delicious and visually appealing. They have definitely raised the quality of their food and added the most delicious fries I've ever tasted! But it's not just the food that's impressive - the entertainment is top-notch too! From live music (from actual famous singers) to belly dancers and even a DJ, there's always something fun happening at this restaurant on the weekends. They play English, Arabic, and Armenian music mostly. Grab a hooka from them and have fun!!! The atmosphere is lively and welcoming, with a great vibe and of course the staff are friendly, attentive, and the service makes you feel like you're the superstar! Excessively loud music for such a size of venue; conversation-stopping levels! The widespread smoking indoors (of cigarettes and hookah) in disregard of California state law was an unexpected and entirely unwelcome surprise. Completely inappropriate for those visiting with children. We were treated incredibly disrespectfully by management when trying to remedy the toxic, fume-filled environment we found ourselves in during a recent family function. The manager said "they had a permit" which I find hard to believe given that they are open to the public and openly sell food and drinks in the premises; therefore qualifying as neither a 'tobacco shop' or 'private somkers' lounge'. Food is authentic and of decent quality. Beware when visiting. read more

We needed a location for luncheon following my husband's funeral. The Gate filled all our expectations and more. Food is excellent, with several courses to handle all foodies from carnivores to vegans. This place was a total disappointment. If you dont mind to breathe in an enclosed area with 50 Hukas and Cigar smoke , then choose this restaruant. As far as I know smoking is prohibited in Los Angeles in public places. Surprised they have not been reported yet and or shut down this place. The service was below standard. What a rip off. Actually what is happening with all those Mediterranean places, they are getting the inflation wrong. They are in a super inflation mode, They claimed that there is no cover charge at the door with no table requirement. Then to be surprised at the table with all their requirements forcing us to buy all sorts of things that we couldn't turn down after we already settled in, resulting in a $150 per person for literally nothing in return. We usually go to The Gate when there's a singer we want to go see or for a party. Today, we just stopped to have an early dinner. They ALWAYS have the best food. This is a beautiful restaurant, however, I feel that it was a complete scam. They did not notify us ahead of time that there would be a set menu and that each persons' cost was $150. The food was okay at best, definitely not worth $150 PER PERSON. With $150 per person, we could've gone to the best steakhouse in Beverly Hills. They also did not ask if anyone has any allergies or dietary restrictions beforehand. Our kabob was burnt and too salty. It took them two hours to bring out the entree (even though we requested it be brought out earlier several times). While, the music and entertainment were lovely, it's a shame that the set menu/set price were not listed on their website. This place is absolutely wonderful. I've been coming here for many many years but in the last couple of years the quality of food, Restaurant style and service went from a 10 out of 10 to a 20! The manager provides great service and organization when it comes to events and dinner reservations. Not too long ago I had a private event not one person left dissatisfied. Everyone had an amazing time, the music was great, the ambience was spectacular and the food was phenomenal. I think they got a new chef because everyone said all the appetizers and main courses were beyond amazing. Man we had a amazing time with friends this past Friday night. We arrived at Gates with 8 friends and didn't leave until 2 am. Talk about having a blast with the boys. I just don't know where to start from. We walked in at 8 pm sharp and was greeted by a waiter and the owner himself. We were seated and felt like home right away. The food is amazing and the service was wonderful. Our waiter was always by our table and making sure we had everything needed. The hookah was great and it actually lasted long. We had 2 live singers with a band and DJ. We partied the whole night. The owner joined us few times for some drinks and partied with us. Such a wonderful person. I feel bad for not getting his name to give him all the create, but sir you have made a great venue and I will be coming here more often for hookah and enjoy my entire night.
