A delightful Sunday Afternoon Tea experience!! A MUST-DO for any ladies party or birthday celebration for friends, or if you just want an excuse to dress up nice and enjoy some AMAZING TEA AND FOOD ASSORTMENTS. Was so excited to try out The Ginger Room and their tea experience and they did not disappoint!! It was TEA-rrific & AMAZING overall. I went here with my mom and sister and both are equally in love with this place and the experience. From the beginning, we arrived to the location, which was easy to map to within the downtown Alpharetta area, and parked. There is parking in the back of the building, so no trouble there. We walked through the front door and were immediately greeted by one of the servers and were immediately seated to our table. Note: We did have a reservation, which is absolutely essential since this place DOES get BOOKED UP. Reservations are available months in advance, and I suggest looking as early as possible because sometimes reservations aren't available until another 2 months!! The Ginger Room is the oldest building in downtown Alpharetta, but decorated so lovely. The vibe is very tea party and ornate (love it!) and homey. My party of 3 did the Afternoon Tea, which is slightly different than the High Tea that they offer, but was so much more food than we expected. The tea house is For the difference: Afternoon Tea - $45.95/person (choice of tea per person plus the food tower) High Tea - $55.95/person (includes the same as above PLUS a choice of hot entrée per person) Each person at the table gets their own choice of tea and there are SO SO many options to choose from. Our server had good knowledge on them so we were able to ask about it. My favorite was the Sundae Fun Day tea!!! The food tower included such a variety of food... I am sadly very disappointed in The Ginger Room because of the rude, distasteful, and inappropriate service upon arrival. My sister had planned a girls' afternoon to go to The Ginger Room for the first time as a Christmas gift to my mom because we all grew up going to high tea together around Atlanta. After just stepping through the front door, the owner asked for my sister, not to greet us, but to loudly scold my sister for not answering their three phone calls all morning. My sister had ZERO missed or existing calls from the establishment and had never even provided her phone number with booking the reservation. After being seated, the owner again rudely mentioned she's glad she set the table even though she didn't know if we were going to show. This was such an abrasive, unprofessional, and underserving "welcome" that put a damper on the entire experience. I cannot imagine any setting where that would be appropriate, even if there was a miscommunication. I had such high hopes, but sadly cannot and will not recommend The Ginger Room. read more

The Ginger Room was really disappointing. The overall experience was very lackluster and didn't have a lot of the aspects that make high tea such a delight. For instance, the cadence of events was really poor and felt rushed. They brought all of the food out about 10 minutes before we had our tea. I booked tea time here for a special treat for my cousin who was visiting from out of state. We schedule the an Afternoon Tea reservation (Total was around $100). When I tell y'all this place was giving what it needed to give, it GAVE! We had a choice of our own teas and then had a decadent assortment of savory and sweet bites. Then the person who prepared our scones and treats comes out and is from England. The way he described our refreshments was amazing, aside from his accent his passion and word choices had me excited! This was a fabulous experience from start to finish. Every detail was considered in the decor and the menu. Every single member of staff was sweet, attentive, kind, helpful and knowledgeable. We had a reservation for afternoon tea to celebrate a birthday. After we placed our tea order, the owner came by and shared some history of the building and the business. You could tell this was a true passion. The food tower arrived and every single item was beautiful. It almost looked too good to eat. But we ate it and I'm so glad we did! The chicken sandwich and the scone with clotted cream and lemon curd were my favorites. We were stuffed, just attempting to taste it all. Thankfully they had to go boxes. Had the gluten free afternoon tea here with me (celiac), my sister (gluten intolerant), my mom, and niece (neither have an issue with gluten) and we got the afternoon tea platter for 4, all gluten free. It was okay and neither me or my sister got sick. This is long, but details I would have liked to know before booking and spending that much money. I know I have a lot of complaints, maybe I'm too picky because I had an amazing gluten free afternoon tea in England for the same price, but overall, I wasn't impressed, it wasn't worth the price, and I won't be back. I don't think I've ever left a negative review anywhere before - it is very rare I leave a review at all. We booked ahead and included the high tea upgrade (having a hot dish in addition to afternoon tea) and mentioned in the comments we wanted the tomato pie gluten free. When we got there, the only hot dish they had available gluten free was shepherds pie, but when the manager came to let us know that, she said we could downgrade to the afternoon tea instead, so we did that. The high tea platter included plenty of food and we didn't finish it all. It included sandwiches (cucumber and dill, pimento cheese, egg salad and smoked salmon), instead of scones it had tomatoes stuffed with coronation chicken with crackers on the side, then the desserts were a few macarons, coconut macaroons, some other kind of coconut things with raisins in it, toffee, mini rum donuts, and most of that tier was covered with "chocolate" covered strawberries. The bread on the sandwiches was pretty good, but the egg salad and cucumber sandwiches were flavorless, the salmon was okay, and the pimento cheese was really good. The coronation chicken was good, but was a bit odd they served it with both the tomato and crackers and the tomato watered down the flavor, so I ate the chicken on the crackers then the tomato separately. But I would have MUCH rather had the coronation chicken on a sandwich and actually had scones with clotted cream and jam in the middle layer, which is traditional. I saw the non-gluten free customers had that, and scones are one the easiest things to make gluten free, so that was just a really weird choice and I missed the scones. The desserts were not good - I felt like they were like cheap desserts you get at the grocery store bakery. The "chocolate" covered strawberries only had a bit of candy melt drizzled over the top, which just made it really sweet. I didn't try the coconut things because I don't like coconut but others in my party didn't like them and they were really dry. The toffee, macaron, and rum donuts were okay. But these are not desserts you expect at a high tea other than macarons - they are usually more delicate patisserie. They were weird choices for desserts, and weird flavor choices - you'd think they'd go with flavors more universally liked. It was also a strange choice that they didn't have enough for each person to try each kind - they had 2 of most things then a lot of that tier was filled with strawberries. Note they also only gave us 3 stuffed tomatoes. They had a TON of tea options, and we could choose 3 for our table of 4, but no decaf black tea. I can't have caffeine and am not a big fan of the flavors they had for herbal tea (they were mostly fruity with cinnamon and weird stuff like that - just give me some normal tea like a ginger or something if I have to go herbal!), so I got some fruity kind and choked it down. Also note, the tables are TINY, and we had two small round tables pushed up next to each other so it was VERY hard to coordinate a big tower, our plates, tea cups, waters, 3 tea pots, the decorations they had on the table, etc. - photo is before we got the tea pots - after that there was ZERO room, which made the experience pretty uncomfortable - we all felt like we were going to break something the whole time. The place itself was also super tiny and I was sitting next to a wall with a coat rack hanging on it and about an inch from poking me in the eye the whole time. The service wasn't great either - the owner or manager was friendly, but everyone else working there acted like they hated their job and rarely, or maybe never, came to check on the table - my sister ran out of water probably half way through our 1.5 hours there and they didn't come to check on us after that for sure. But gratuity is mandatory and added onto the bill. So overall, over $200 for some cheap food that tastes like it's from the bakery at a grocery store and a bad experience overall - definitely not worth it! My afternoon tea experience at The Ginger Room was great from the time I walked in to the time I left. The customer service from the servers and the owners is unmatched. The owners are so warm and personable with their customers. You can tell they are really passionate and knowledgeable about tea's and making each tea experience great. Both owners came over individually and spoke with us. My friend and I had a 3pm reservation our table was ready for us when we arrived. We were given waters and menus so we could make our tea selection. There were over 45 tea's to choose from so we asked the server about the most popular items. She gave us some recommendations and told us about some off menu selections. I selected the ginger peach cobbler. While we waited the server let us sample the adora bella & ginger yum. The adora bella is a hibiscus tea and the ginger yum is their signature juice. Both very tasty. The afternoon tea is served with a tea tower that has assorted sandwiches, house made scones and desserts. Everything was delicious my favorites were the scones, the smoked salmon sandwiches and the coronation chicken salad. When my tea arrived it came in a gorgeous tea pot. A charming and unique place, and a lovely addition to Alpharetta's downtown area! The Ginger Room is located in a historic home on Roswell Street, one block west of Main Street and - while not large - is a delight to visit. The Ginger Room offers a BIG selection of teas (many caffeine free), plus juices and coffee. The decor is upscale eclectic, with beautiful mismatched china, cozy tables, and a soothing color palette. While you can pop in for a coffee or juice to go, I recommend taking a moment to sit and enjoy a real pot of tea, accompanied by a tower of treats, including fresh baked scones and real clotted cream. Reserve a table for high tea and get the full experience, including a selection of hot mains (quiche, shepherds pie or a build your own croissant). Brought back memories of so many of my visits to the UK! The building does have some parking available but also sits adjacent to one of the public parking lots in Alpharetta. Two words "Breath taking"! Upon walking into The Ginger Room it's as if you made it into heaven! All the beautiful colors, pictures and decor where amazing! I tried twice despite their website saying they do them. Had to reserve a table three weeks in advance -The reservations only allow High or Afternoon Tea. Which is a bummer because I really did just wanted tea and a snack. I actually ate beforehand! To not have that option kinda forced my hand to spend $50, and that's w/o tip. -I made a reservation at 2pm, they called me saying that I needed to come in at 1pm instead since they close at 3pm. So why allow reservations at 2 then? -Can't choose food on the Afternoon Tea. Which means if you have dietary restrictions you're out of luck. They don't even tell you what you get until it's at your table. So while I know that's a ton of cons, the *experience* by itself actually does make it worth it. Do I want to come here with my mom for her birthday? Yes, I think that'd be lovely. If I wanted a peaceful afternoon with some good tea and a snack though, I'm way better off going somewhere else. The Ginger Room is easily one of my favorite spots in Alpharetta. I am not even really a tea drinker, so I think that says a lot. This place is so much more than just tea though! As soon as you walk up to the building, you see the red phone booth and automatically feel like you are transported to Great Britain. When you walk inside, the journey continues as each table has different place settings and china patterns that are all so beautiful. They have a private room in the back, but the majority of the seating are the tables in the front. I came on Sunday for High Tea and was able to try three different teas and savory and sweet treats that were presented so nicely on a three tiered stand. I tried the Red velvet tea, elderflower strawberry and rose tea, and the lovely with lavender tea. All three come highly recommend by me, and my favorite was the red velvet. It had both smooth and sweet notes and was everything I was looking for in a tea. Not to mention it was a pretty pink color, which made it extra special! I also enjoyed munching on fresh cucumber salad sandwiches, English egg salad sandwiches, salmon and dill sandwiches and Sugas pimiento cheese sandwiches. The scones were served with strawberry, ginger, and lemon curd jam and of course England clotted cream. We also had macaroons, truffles, Ginger mini donuts, and English shortbread cookies. I literally loved everything I tried and that never happens! We also got to try two special items on their menu: The Peaches and Cream turnover and the Apple Pecan turnover. My experience at The Ginger Room was fine, but I am not likely to return. The Ginger Room is located in Downtown Alpharetta, but it does have a parking lot in the back (instead of trying to find street parking). The place is thoughtfully decorated and super cute. I want to highlight their China selection because it's so beautiful and I love the whole mix 'n match vibe they had going on with it. We had an early booking and were seated right away (there was only one other table there so they weren't busy). The tables are on the smaller side and I'd imagine there's not a lot of wiggle room once the place is full. Do keep that in mind if you have a larger party. The menu had a large selection of tea, anywhere from classics to local offerings. You then have the option of doing Afternoon Tea, or High Tea ($10 more, which includes a hot entree of your choice). I recommend sticking with just the Afternoon Tea unless you are very hungry because they give you a LOT of food. Our Afternoon Tea tray consisted of five different types of sandwiches (about 3 slices per type, with the exception of the Pimento cheese), one hot scone per person; and a variety of sweets: cakes, chocolates, cookies, etc. There's a lot of variety so it's good for people that want to try a little bit of everything. But if I am being honest, the quality of the food was just ok. Even though I had fully expected this but most of the sweets (with the exception of the Scone) didn't taste like they were made fresh that day. Service was fine, but I wouldn't call it attentive, especially for the mandatory gratuity they add to your bill at the end. We were checked on just once throughout the whole meal and I had to flag down our waitress for a fresh pot of tea. Upon check out, I discovered a 20% gratuity was added to my bill. This was not mentioned on their website, or their menu (apology if it was and I missed but I did not see anything in regard to this), nor was this communicated to me verbally prior to ordering. I am someone who usually tips 20% anyways so it wasn't the amount, but more so the fact they essentially added 20% to my bill without telling me, that sourced the experience for me. Overall I think The Ginger Room is a good place for those that want the afternoon tea experience (just note the smaller space and 20% mandatory gratuity); but if you are someone that wants a culinary experience, this wouldn't be your first choice. read more

The good: - The owners are so sweet and good at what they do. They were kind, accommodating, and lovely to talk to. Clearly, they put a lot of heart into what they do. - The towers are fabulous! The food has a great mix of mild flavors (egg salad and cucumber sandwiches were classic and delicious) and bold and flavorful (salmon, coronation chicken salad, and spicy pimento cheese sandwiches). The scones were good but a little on the crumbly side. And the desserts were fantastic! So many options. Portion sizes were more than ample with plenty to take home. - The gluten-free tea tower was a showstopper. I couldn't believe all of the options on one plate. At first I was disappointed that they didn't have GF scones because, after all, what is an afternoon tea without scones? But everything else was so spectacular, that I actually didn't find myself missing it. - The building itself was beautiful. The owners told us it's the oldest building in Alpharetta, from 1859. There was plenty of close parking too, which isn't common for the area. - It was decorated beautifully! The dishes were beautiful mismatched floral tea sets. I'm so grateful they did classic English tea ware instead of this modern plain white that so many people have switched to. There's a rich chandelier and a beautiful fireplace. The paint colors were gorgeous. They really, truly created a lovely environment. The not-so-good: - The tables are way too small. And I mean WAY too small. The server tried to say it was very European. ‍ (as if people in this area don't frequently visit Europe and have tea and know that's not the case). If the tables had just been square instead of round, that would have solved everything. But two tiny round tables pushed together to make seating for four was very cramped and uncomfortable. And each table felt very separated from the other because of the round shape. - The service was not good. Other than the owners who came out in the middle and did a fantastic job taking care of everyone, the two servers were not good at what they did. They forgot two requests. They knew little to nothing about the teas they served. We almost walked out just based on the size of the tables and the servers. We were never offered refills on our tea. The tip was automatically applied, which is probably because many people weren't tipping well due to the poor service. - The tea was weak and not hot. The sugar wouldn't dissolve because of the barely-warm temperature. It wasn't brewed correctly. - The kids tea was not kid-friendly. When we made the reservation, I made sure to note that we wanted the kids tea. But all the sandwiches were very adult in flavor. Fortunately the owner came out and offered to make a turkey and cheese sandwich, which saved the day. Thankfully, my kid has grown up doing teas and loves tea, but I was surprised that they didn't offer hot chocolate or another drink in its place for the kids tea. All in all, we would go back because the tea towers were so incredible. But I would make sure we reserved the one table in the parlor that's a rectangle, not the tiny circle tables squeezed together. We booked a reservation over a month in advance, so expectations were pretty high going into it and it did not disappoint. The food was great and the closest to proper scones and coronation chicken I've had since moving from London. The atmosphere is very cute and the staff were very attentive and accommodating of a gluten free diet for one of the guests. They were out of a number of teas that we tried to order (and due to dietary restrictions, we were limited in the ones we could select from), but the staff were very helpful in trying to recommend alternatives. Today was my best friend's birthday and we decided have a lovely tea time which The Ginger Room provided very well. We loved the plates and teacups. The place is very tiny and filled with furniture and small cute stuff. When I came in I didn't greeted. I went to our table. We waited for friends to arrive. After that we are kindly pushed to order and reminded to leave after 1.15 minutes which was a little discomforting. We ordered 4 ginger lemonade which had a lot of ginger in it that you can't drink it because of the burning taste. They had fresh scones and they were delicious!!! Shortbread cookie was good too ( but it's overpriced ) The placed had a bad smelling I don't know why :/ The server who served us wasn't nice but the gentleman came over and greeted us very well. One of my friend arrived very late and we couldn't get a chance to have time with her cause our time was done(!) even though we asked if we have to leave at 1.30 they said they have other reservations ( store was empty and had another big seating room) So my experience was bittersweet I don't think I will go again because of the time restrictions. I made a birthday reservation for my mother's birthday and the service and ambiance was amazing- we had a cute area reserved for us at our reserved time - the entire place was decorated for the holidays and they were playing holiday music - our reservation was for the afternoon high tea - everyone in our party got to pick a tea to try - everything we chose tasted amazing - and it came with a hot entree and a tower of sandwiches and pastries that were delicious- before the end of our tea time one of the owners- Karl- crowned my mom as Queen for the afternoon as part of the birthday experience- this is my second time going and I can't say enough good things about Karl and Angela who always have a smile on their face when they greet you and make every visit enjoyable, personable and fun - I can't wait for my next visit read more

We had a reservation for 8 for a Christmas treat. After suggesting we were being 'upgraded' to a private room, that was the only space with 8 seats together. A 20% gratuity was added to our bill which we would have added on our own. However, we waited THIRTY minutes for any server to even approach us. Then, it took THIRTY minutes to receive our food. The tea was served after our food was presented. The food was good, and the tea service was fun, but I'm not sure we'll return. It was a very expensive tea for 'meh' service. read more

After much hype and constantly showing "full" when trying to make a reservation, we finally got our "high tea" experience. Having had AMAZING high tea experiences in various parts of Europe and Asia, in Tafa's in Roswell (sadly closed!) and at the Four Seasons in Atlanta, this was not a new concept for us. Obviously we didn't have any unreal expectations because of that but the expectations were high based on lack of availability of reservations! First, the place is cluttered and cramped. Our table was one of the smallest tables I've ever seen at a restaurant. See the pictures! Also, the chairs were so painful and uncomfortable ‍ Second, they had the reservation in writing from their website so why would my name be spelled wrong?! That's just disrespectful! Third, the server was nice, the one who brought our food out was sweet but the other lady (hostess?) there didn't seem to care too much for our presence. When checking in, I got there first and I didn't realize that there was a family of 4 (2 adults, 2 kids) behind me. The hostess held a hand to her heart like "oh wow" because she thought that it was a "large group" assuming we were together just because we were "minorities". She breathed a sigh of relief when I said it was for 2 ppl, my friend was just parking. Seriously? A) don't assume! B) judging by the fact that 90% of the tables were empty, pretty sure it would've been alright. C) she did make a visibly face when the family confirmed they did not have a reservation. They saw it too and seemed apologetic. SO RUDE OF HER! Fourth, the food was sad. Just average at best. We got the egg salad sandwich and the quiche. We both commented that we make better ones at home lol! We had contemplated dessert earlier but passed on it. Fifth, the tea literally stayed hot for 2 minutes. We couldn't even finish half a cup before it cooled down. I guess it was okay because the tea was weak. Like they couldn't even steep it long enough. Come on! A really lame experience overall. Not to be mean, but the hype seems to be coming from those who may not have had a real high tea/tea house experience or it could just be friends of the owners helping out with reviews. Luckily there are some wonderful new tea houses popping up and we looking forward to a more favorable experience, food and staff wise! read more

The service was excellent but the food has changed from the last time I was here and not for the better. It used to be my favorite tea place and now I will not return. They gave us 1 of each desert to split between us instead of giving us one for each of us. The sandwiches were just okay. The scone was good but they tried to pass off butter as clotted cream. read more

But first tea! This place is wonderful and will be my weekly selfish challenge to enjoy. They have a variety of teas I chose (red velvet) and the scones were delightful. You can lull to the sounds of coffee table jazz while enjoying egg sandwiches, cucumber etc or hot items such as quiche. Obsessed with this cute new spot in Alpharetta! I heard about this place through Instagram and made reservations immediately for my friend and me to try out. We booked 2 weeks ahead of time because we wanted to go on a weekend, and they're pretty booked! We decided on afternoon tea, which was $45 per person. The high tea option was more expensive and offered an extra entree. For afternoon tea, we thought it was definitely enough food! The atmosphere was absolutely beautiful and well designed. It's small and quaint with real antiques as decor. The menu was extensive and offered 3-4 pages of tea options. Our waitress gave us an option to try tea flights, so 3 smaller teapots each, instead of one big teapot each. Loved this option! We tried: earl grey creme, 1896, cinnamon lit, happy tea, fort something?, and I forgot the last one. My absolute favorites were the cinnamon lit, earl grey creme, and the fort something tea. Happy tea was pretty good as well and very light/fruity. Next time, I'd probably get a big pot of cinnamon lit! The finger foods were good as well, I didn't expect to get so full! As far as the sandwiches, there were: cucumber, smoked salmon, curry chicken, egg salad, and smoked Gouda. I loved the curry chicken, egg salad, and smoked salmon sandwiches the most! The scones were also good - came with 2 jams and cream. The little desserts at the top tier were a bit too sweet for me but still yummy. I preferred the almond cake slice and macaroons. The ginger yum drinks were amazing! We both enjoyed the ginger lemon one more than the hibiscus ginger. Very delicious! The owners stopped by to say hello and they were super kind. They told us a bit about the history behind the ginger yum and their ideas for the future of this place. I used to go to similar afternoon tea places back in NYC with my mom and this place was totally on par with what my expectations. We would totally come back again! The service was great, food was delicious, and the tea options were unbelievable. There's also parking right at the back, so that's a plus, especially in Alpharetta. read more
