I drive past this place on my way to my grandparents and have wanted to stop in, we found a perfect Saturday morning too. It kind of sticks out as there are houses and apartments all around, parking lots is a good size and there is a good amount of tables outside. Inside are more tables and a wall of bags of coffee for sale. Inside and outside are lots of seats but we were talking and wish they had some comfy chairs to sit in and chat. The menu features a good amount of options for different coffee and tea drinks with various syrups and extras. There are a couple of seasonal type specials too. There is a small bakery case with treats from Beans n Cream in Madison, but there isn't much food otherwise. A couple of Kind and Cliff Bars. There is a basket for food pantry donations as well and a local business bulletin board. When we stopped in shortly after 8am on a Saturday morning there was a steady flow of people. The line moves pretty quick and our order was ready in a short amount of time. I got an iced chai latte and my husband got a London fog latte and a breakfast scone. The scone was alright, filled with classic breakfast flavors, but not our favorite. The staff were great in explaining where the bakery items come from and so friendly. I do wish they had some other food items available but for coffee/tea, it's a great stop! Overall a good coffee shop but I wouldn't really stop in for more than that. Second time here. Came in with a friend on a Saturday morning. The exterior of the building is a bit understated. They have large windows with a northern exposure. A small fenced off patio area is in the front. There are small tables inside, all of which had two chairs each, perfect for us. It's a bit curious, but each of the tables has a small brass plaques that states "do not move tables". I have not seen that before, but it's likely that a larger group would struggle with seating. Ordered a London Fog Tea Latte (little lavender, little vanilla, with extra foam) and a Blueberry Lemon Scone. My friend got a simply brewed tea. We asked for our beverages in mugs, and that was not a problem. When I asked for the scone to be warmed, I just got a flat "no" (not anything like, "sorry about that, we just don't have the equipment", just a "no", which seems to be a bit nitpicky on my part, but it was just abrupt). There was another person behind me in line, so maybe the Barista (the only one that I could see) was getting impatient. The London Fog was good. Nice flavors and foam. The scone was not very good at all. It had a very dense bread texture. We were there for a while and the place filled with other customers. Got pretty loud and it was hard to have a conversation. If it had been warmer we would have taken advantage of the outside patio. Would have liked to have rated it higher, but the experience could have easily been better. read more

I've been wanting to try here. Glad I did. They have a lot of indoor and outdoor seating. Staff extremely nice and friendly. Got my coffee quickly. I got the caramel macchiato with an extra shot. Tastes amazing. They have tons of options of drinks. I definitely will be returning. Next drink I'm getting will be the cherry cold brew. read more

I feel like my experience with 1848 Coffee is a hit or miss. There baked goods are from Hatch which aren't really anything more than bars- I wish there was more of selection here. They have a fun selection of seasonal drinks and do offer large sizes (20 or 24oz if I'm remembering correctly), really helping you get your caffeine fix for the day! Also, there's one waiter I've encountered that simply does not offer the most friendliest interactions. When asked about drink options and their popular drinks, it's a flat response with not much insight into what customers frequently purchase here. It's one thing for it happen once, but it's happened several times I've been here. There were a two times I decided to sit and enjoy the cozy window spots this place offers, and I just couldn't quite get comfortable because it felt like I was being stared/glared at to leave. I think there's plenty room for leaning into what "1848" is about whether there's a story to this name or a theme that they're taking on. There is parking available. No wifi for patrons, possibly to limit how long people stay. I think there are other Yelp reviews that can speak to better customer service and I might've just gotten the bad end of the stick for the few times I've been :( I'd recommend this being a place for a quick catch up with someone if you're in the New Berlin area or to grab a quick coffee- not much of a sit down spot for doing work or reading books because it's frequently busy with customers! read more

What a gem of a place! So cute inside, though looks very uninteresting from the outside. I think I passed by the place many many times without realizing it was a coffee shop. They roast their own coffee, and have lots of interesting flovors. Interestingly, my whole group ended up just enjoying their dark roast - the national avenue - over all the other flavored kind, but it was quite good. Their latte was also spot on, and hit the spot. Barista/cashier was very friendly and helped us through our coffee selection process very patiently. Totally coming back! If you're not sure why it's called 1848, ask the server! Love that New Berlin has a non-chain option in 1848! Their monthly specials for coffee are fun and their menu as a whole has something for everyone! A few areas that could use work: - this may have changed, but the last time I was there they did not offer WiFi; I just find it weird a coffee shop can't provide free WiFi for its patrons - the customer service isn't always the most warm and welcoming, it's often hit or miss honestly - they used to offer baked goods, I think sourced from Hatch, but now there's just basics like granola bars. A bakery option would be nice, though! Overall, really like the place. Good vibes and great coffee. read more

Moreover, they discontinued the slightly more expensive cup that allowed you a refill. They wanted to charge me full price for a second cup. Cute little coffee shop right off of National Ave. the drinks are a bit pricey but they are good. Beware if you are trying to do work here, there are only a few tables inside and they seems to be taken most of the time. In all honesty, my chai latte was delicious, but I probably won't return here. 1848 Coffee is a quaint little shop, but the lack of seating could be a problem during peak hours. The decor was cute and fit with the whole Wisconsin theme, but it was a little chilly in there. They also have a gender-neutral bathroom, which is great. Moreover, you probably won't have any trouble finding parking - the lot is pretty large. One thing that was a bit confusing was their lack of food. There were some prepackaged snacks, but the pastry case was totally empty. I was hoping to grab a little something to eat (considering the fact that other review photos featured some nice looking pastries), but I was really disappointed. 1848 Coffee is pretty much the only independent coffee shop in this area, so if you'd like to support a small business, I'd give it a try. Otherwise, you're better off making the trip to Waukesha and trying out one of the better coffee shops over there. read more

A nice local coffee shop that now brews in house. They have a nice selection of drinks, coffee and otherwise and also a decent selection of pastries from Hatched bakery. My only knock against 1848 is that if you come too late in the morning the pastries are either gone altogether or picked over so get there before 10. Also, it can get quite busy and they have limited seating so if you want tobstay and enjoy your drinks for a bit it may not always be possible. Definitely still a good place to try and the staff is friendly! read more

Definitely a cute little spot. I really enjoyed the atmosphere that was both family friendly or a perfect spot to bring a good book. I ordered an ice Carmel latte and it was okay. I was not blown away by flavor, and it was a little sweater than I prefer compared to other Carmel lattes I've had elsewhere. The service was friendly and efficient and I had my drink within a minute or two of ordering on a slow Saturday morning. Would definitely stop by again as I'd much prefer coming here than a large chain restaurant. read more

Cute place, as many others have mentioned. The coffee was good. Nice way to support local. The drink menu was a bit confusing. If you like creating your own concoctions, it's probably not bad. On a weekday morning, the seating was good. Service was fine. Very loud inside mainly because of the music. Besides myself, another couple moved to sit outside likely because of that. It's a fine place for getting together with friends but not to work on anything that requires some focus. It's located on a busy street so be prepared for lots of close traffic you'll need to talk over if sitting outside. Again, fine if you're getting together with friends. read more

Coffee is tooo sweet even when you ask for not so sweet. Has no WiFi even thought it says it does. You can't have a coffee shop without WiFi it's 2024. I travel all the time and try new coffee shops and honestly this one was one of my least favorites. read more

Had planned to go to Starbucks around the corner but when I saw this business I wanted to patronize a local business instead. So glad I did. Fast, friendly service and delicious coffee. It's so local that the coffee was named when WI became a state.. 8 table establishment but what I enjoyed about this place is watching the locals coming in for their coffee.
