The CHILI is the THING! Theirs is the Reagan family recipe with chunks of steak & kidney beans served with a sweet cornbread muffin! This is definitely my lunch of choice when out this way!! Casual dining also featuring salads, soups, sandwiches and burgers made on the spot! There is a beautiful view since this overlooks the valley and beyond. It's very clean, organized and affordable. This bistro offers food that tastes insanely delicious! I ordered the grilled chicken sandwich but i was so hungry that i didn't let my camera eats first. The bun is brioche. Fresh ingredients and i added a side of avocado. Chicken is not dry at all! The Reagan BBQ Ranch burger is also recommended- it is huge with onion rings and bacon. Tomatoes/lettuce/onions are put on the side so it is not soggy. Service is quick and friendly. It is cafeteria style. You order hot sandwiches/ burgers at the kiosk and pay at the register. Pizza/soup/ drinks/ corn muffins/ dessert are self served. You can also get free refills for fountain drinks. I really wish I had taken pictures of the food but didn't expect it to be so good! We shared a slice of caprese pizza that had a yummy balsamic reduction on it and shared a tuna melt. The bread was yummy and toasted perfectly. French fries were seasoned and cooked perfectly. Everything tasted like it was made from fresh ingredients and was so good! We shared a slice of German Chocolate cake for dessert and finished with a fresh glass of iced tea and couldn't have been better! The service here is so nice. It is super clean. There are several seating areas, we opted for outside under the tree as it was nice weather. There are some internal seating to the right hand side of the cashiers, but it was very quiet. The food was delicious. The food is cafeteria style but it is actually exceeded my expectations of what it would be. They even sold beer! The self-serve condiment bar was amazing. So clean and literally any condiment I could think of was there and provided! They also had a station where you could make your own tea. If you're touring RR library then don't miss to eat at this place. I actually planned to get lunch outside after finishing the tour but then decided to give the food a try. This place is clean, well maintained, the people working here are very responsible and friendly. My Reagan burger was excellent, the meat is thick and juicy, cheese melted right, bacon is thick and crispy, it's very delicious beyond my expectation. When you visit a place like a presidential library you don't expect the food to be that great. The Gipper's Bar was a nice surprise. We were here on the Fourth of July and the place was really busy. The place is super clean and efficient and not too expensive. I got onion rings as my side and I was very happy with them. The people who got the fries were not as happy and were jealous. First time in a long time that I was impressed beyond description on the tastiest pizza around today. For a tiny eatery in the complex, I never expected it. It was well worth two hours each way driving, just to enjoy the pizza:-) As for the library, very happy to revisit it again after many years. My husband and I live below the library in Wood Ranch and often go up here just for a lunch treat. We usually get the chili and cornbread combo with cheddar cheese. It is so delicious. I have also had the meatloaf sandwich in the past that was also good. My husband is a member so we get a 10% off of the price. The views of the area are so nice and recently, we even saw the goats eating the weeds around the perimeter. The service is great and the restaurant and eating areas are always clean. read more

Very low expectations as cafes in museums are never great, but wow!! We got a slice of pepperoni pizza, pulled pork sandwich, and fries. Its cafeteria style, but It was all as good as a sitdown restaurant. The pizza was the real winner for me. Don't be fooled by it being under a heating lamp. Super cheesy and something about the dough was magical - crisp on the edges and super fluffy and chewy on the inside. Definitely better than most places that sell single slices. The Reagan Library is something you should absolutely go and see. It is the most amazing presidential library I've ever been to - and that's not just because it's got a ginormous Air Force One aircraft inside of it that you can walk through. Normally, museum food is ... well, "museum quality." It's not too good, not to bad, but it definitely tastes like it belongs in a museum full of old things. Reagan's Country Cafe is different. COMPLETELY different. The food is fantastic. I recommend all of it - and I've tried everything there! My recommendation, however, is the Reagan Family Steak Chili. This is a chili that sports huge chunks of steak, onion, beans, bell pepper, and spices. It's served with a cornbread muffin, and you scoop it into the bowl yourself. It's one of the better chili's I've had in a cafeteria setting, and certainly the best chili I've had at ANY presidential library (I've only been to a few). Supposedly this is a Ronald Reagan favorite, and was served at Reagan's ranch as well as in the White House (where it was prepared by the White House's Executive Chef Henry Haller). The cafe opens up at 10, and the chili is usually up to serving temperature when they open. Pro Tip #1: If you don't want to spend the $30 admission price to go in and buy a cup o' chili, let them know that you're just there for the chili. They won't charge you, and they'll direct you out the back doors of the main entrance, and the cafe is about 50 yards down the walkway to the right. Pro Tip #2: There's usually pretty nice weather at the library, so grabbing a seat outside on the patio under one of the umbrellas is a great option; nice views and not usually too hot. If that's not an option, then go through the doors on the other side of the cafe leading to the Presidential Learning Center and sit at one of the many tables on the mezzanine. Views not as good, but nice and clean tables, climate controlled, and comfortable. read more

Conveniently located and reasonably priced, by lunchtime here at the library we were ready for a break from all the walking and a bite to eat. Pretty much your usual museum offerings, we both went with the Angus Cheeseburger Combo; which included a cheeseburger, fries and soft drink with refills. Quite decent; the burger was tasty, fries crisped just right and refills on soft drinks. My wife has also tried their order of chili and sandwich during a past visit and found them pleasing as well. Plenty of indoor and outdoor seating with a spectacular view overlooking Simi Valley and the surrounding Ventura County. I heard another diner state that "on a clear day you can see the ocean." Perfectly grilled, and the ingredients were fresh! There wasnt that many people around, but it had plenty of seats and very clean as well. The cashier and the cooks were quick and nice. I'd highly recommend this place if you are visiting the museum. The price was very fair in the current economy, and the portions made sense. Grabbed lunch with my family here during our stay at the Reagan Library. It wasn't too busy, so we were able to place in our order at the grill station and take a look around at their ready to eat selections. I ended up getting a pulled pork sandwich that came with a side of coleslaw and fries along with a slice of lemon meringue pie. My brother and I ended up sharing a fountain drink between the two of us with our meal. We found a table right outside of the cafe with a nice view of the mountain side. I really liked the taste of the pulled pork with the barbecue sauce and the coleslaw was nice and light while the fries were nice and crisp. The lemon meringue pie had an equal layer of lemon and meringue and was not too sweet and tart at the same time. The workers we interacted were very friendly and one even took our trash from us as he passed by with his trash bin. Restrooms were conveniently placed right next to the entrance of the cafe and the gift shop is located right around the corner from the cafe with the main lobby a couple of yards away when you step outside and walk past the small part of the Berlin wall. read more

Since I was planning to make a day of the Reagan Library, I decided to take the advise of another Yelper and head to the Country Café before the crowd got out of hand. I ordered the special for the day- The Tri-Tip Ranch Salad from the grill/hot side of the line. At $11.50 for a salad, I was disappointed to see it was not steak prepared for me but cut up cubes of tough cold steak-like meat, with not a lot of flavor. Visited the Reagan Café the other day. It was a little hard to find at first but once we figured it out, we were really happy with our decision to try for the first time. Our food was very good, and we really appreciated relaxing on the patio after our tour of the Museum with lunch and a cold beer. What's cool about this cafe is that they sell beer, wine and jelly beans!!!! I guess President Reagan was a beer dude, and his favorite candy were jelly beans. The grill has weird hours, so I just missed their main food. So I settled on one of their pre-made sandwiches and a nice cool Newcastle. Sorry, no Bay Breeze today!!!! Good selection of mainly sandwiches and burgers. Some salads, soup and steak chili. Prices are reasonable for sandwiches for a museum cafe (my turkey panini was $9.50), but the drinks are pricey. I think a bottle water was $3.50. Plastic cup for tap water, please. :o) The pulled pork sandwich with bbq sauce topped with cole slaw looked good but I had the turkey panini. Cold sandwiches are pre-made and packaged. My pannini came with wedge of dill pickle, good pesto sauce on the side (goes nice with fries), and a bigger than expected portion of tasty country potato salad. My brother's turkey reuben was just ok. There wasn't sauerkraut, I didn't see or taste any Thousand Island dressing. If you get a combo, the french fries are excellent. I like that the skin was left on. Perhaps the timing of our lunch was right to get fries but regardless, the fries were warm and perfectly crunchy. My sister got one of the burgers with the combo. She liked it a lot. For drinks, $1 for refills is too much. I think they should charge no more than .50 - .75 cents. I must say the museum staff, paid and volunteers are great here. Our cashier was friendly and upbeat. She was young and seemed to enjoy interacting with people. If you're lucky to get a table with a view, either inside or outside, the view is AMAZING. Outside tables also see the beautiful recreation of the White House South Lawn in the near distance. The temperature might be too hot and dry or windy to eat outside. The main inside eating area is large and the far wall has rows of framed photos of Reagan on magazine covers. For food and prices alone, I give 3 stars. I'm adding an extra star for the beautiful views, friendly service and clean bathrooms. One tip: museum members get 10% off. DYI the tax rate here is only 7.5% while in L.A. county it's freakin' 9%? Our tour bus arrived just before noon, and this was the obvious spot for lunch. They had the line divided into 2 parts - the hot/grill line, or the self-serve line. Wanting to spending as much time as possible in the museum, we chose the self-serve line. I got the tri-tip chili and a garden salad, while mom got the turkey on foccacia sandwich. She'd wanted Roast Beef, which was advertised on the menu on the wall, but there were none in the case when she got there, and not even a space to indicate it is usually there. There were 3 lines to check out, but they didn't flow very well. If you'd been in self-service line, it was difficult to sneak through those coming through the hot line to get your cups for fountain drinks. The view on the patio was worth it. It was a warm and sunny January day, only made a little difficult by the breeze blowing at your napkins and the food containers. The chili was good, the corn muffin a little too sweet, and the garden salad fresh. The turkey sandwich was a lot of bread, but fresh ingredients. The menu is predictable "Reagan's America" food (hamburgers, hot dogs) at "Rockefeller's America" prices. The most exotic item is a pulled pork sandwich, which is fine, but not when you're paying $10 for it. Sure, there are some nice views out the windows, but any pleasure derived from the majestic vistas outside will be quickly quelled by the utilitarian, retirement home atmosphere inside. There is a nice display of magazine covers on the back wall, but you can view those without buying anything. The fries, lemon cake and coffee were good to very good This is a place were you are safest ordering hamberger. Better yet stick to the salads. Visiting the Reagan Library is a must. It's one of the most underrated things to do in Southern California and every time I visit, I see something new. Recently, we were at the lunch hour with family and an infant. We decided to use the country cafe before it closed. They have a good-sized menu from sandwiches, salads and burgers. The staff was really friendly and helpful. We had a vegetable sandwich, chicken sandwich, burger and a tuna sandwich. Everything was tasty and filling. Took my kids to see the Titanic exhibit. We were visiting from Idaho, and our friends, who are members of the Reagan library, suggested we take them there. Great exhibit, really held the kids' attention and they especially enjoyed the props and ship model from the Titanic Movie. Our friends recommended that we have lunch in the Café at the Museum, and we were very pleased with our experience. The seating area was very bright and open, with amazing views of the surrounding hills and valleys. The restaurant itself was very inviting, well organized, and offered a nice variety of foods to choose from. The hamburgers, fries, and steak chili were all excellent, and our chicken ranch salads were delicious. The kids' meal was to include a juice drink, but appreciated that I was able to substitute milk instead. Also, really enjoyed the yummy oatmeal raisin and white chocolate pecan cookies!
