Parking: Ample free parking within the strip mall/shopping center it is in Ambiance: The lighting was warm and set a nice tone and feeling to the restaurant. Tables were pretty close to each other but I don't think this was harmful to the experience at all just a thought. They had Christmas decorations still up. Food: We ordered the Calamari Fritti, the calamari was underseasoned but well fried and the shrimp that came with it was well seasoned but only came with 4 pieces. The pesto aioli that came with it was very tasty. Alfredo sauce in the Chicken Fettuccine Alfredo was strong and its high fat content added a lot of body to it, very garlicky and American, but be warned it was very salty! The pasta was pretty overcooked. The Chicken Parmesan was well seasoned and quite a large portion, we chose to sub the mashed potatoes it comes with for a side of spaghetti (highly recommend for $4 extra). The spaghetti was a little undercooked but luckily the heat of the dish and rest of the food allowed it to get a little better as we ate. Service: We had called in and made a reservation ahead of time to make sure we could get a table. We got to the restaurant 10 minutes before our reservation and the host had somehow already crossed out my name, although that happened, they still had a table ready for us and we were seated within about a minute. The overall vibe that we got from our server was a little odd. She checked on us sporadically and it just felt that we were getting treated a little differently than others. With that being said, the bus boy was extremely professional and helpful. He brought out our food in a clean and calm manner. Let me start by saying the food was good. Unfortunately, the service did not match the quality of the meal. After being seated, we were never asked what we wanted to drink, and we waited about 30 minutes for bread after being told it would only take around 10 minutes. The only consistent part of the service was that our water glasses were kept filled, which we did appreciate. There were only around five tables seated at the time, and despite that, our party of eight waited over 40 minutes for our meals. We understand larger parties can take longer, so that itself wasn't the biggest issue. However, both of the kids' pasta dishes also came out with the wrong type of noodles, which added to the frustration. Overall, the experience was disappointing, especially considering an automatic gratuity of over $70 was included for our table. We expected a much higher level of service based on that. Truly a gem I can't believe I haven't been here before. I'm normally disappointed by chicken fettuccine alfredo, because normally the sauce is bland when I order it at restaurants. This place makes their own handmade sauce which obviously put mine to shame, and I think mine is pretty good so this was definitely well above what I make. Their bread comes out fresh, and warm, and has wonderful flavor. The chicken piccata was great too but the chicken alfredo was simply fantastic. The chocolate chip bread pudding was exactly what you'd expect, a soft bread like cookie that was melt in your mouth delicious. The chocolate for me is a bit rich, but it's still an outstanding dessert. The waitress was so nice and frequently checked on the table. Well unfortunately I can't give Olivio's more then two stars. My first impression after walking is was that it lacks both organization and cleaning. So let's move on to rhe food. My husband ordered mushroom risotto, it wasn't bad but we both think they use canned mushrooms not fresh. I ordered lasagna, it also tasted ok except I like my pasta al dente. This pasta was over cooked and there was no distinct difference in texture, so it was like sauce, cheese and pasta mush in my mouth. Also the ficassia bread they served was so so bland. I would say it was frozen. The ambiance may have been nice at some time but it is old, dirty and worn out now... even the clock was dead. Needless to say I would never recommend this place to anyone. I am live nearby and really wanted to like Olivios... but it just isn't good. Highlight was an acceptable Caesar salad. The dressing needed a bit more garlic and lemon, and the cheese and croutons could have been fresher but not bad. We tried the lasagna and eggplant parmigiana. Both were overwhelmingly loaded with cheese. The noodles in the lasagna were mushy and the meat sauce difficult to find. We arrived an hour before closing, so maybe we got the bottom of the pan but the stouffers lasagna is better than what I experienced. First visit to Olivio's recently. Had it bookmarked for a long time, and would often gaze longingly as we drove by on First Street often. I love good Italian food, and the place looked so cozy from the outside; a potentially great combination. Overall, the food was higher quality than can often be found in Simi Valley establishments. Being in Ventura County with so much fresh produce and other farm-to-table options nearby, it can be disappointing how unimaginative the meals can be in Simi. Olivio's does help raise the bar. If only the service went with the food. Our server looked like she didn't especially appreciate her job. She wasn't rude, but she didn't provide the kind of service that might be expected to match the food quality. Often at a good Italian restaurant the server will engage with the diners in explaining the nightly specials, or offer suggestions. This didn't happen. Dear Hubby and I weren't famished, so we decided to split an entrée and split a salad. We went with the chopped salad; full of tasty bites of various veggies over crisp lettuce with savory balsamic dressing. That, coupled with the bread service of tender, fluffy, flavorful bread, made for a great set up for the main course. For that, we chose the seared ahi tuna over pasta in a country-style tomato-based sauce. Excellent! One of the best entrees I've had in a long time. The kitchen was kind enough to split our orders onto two plates without an extra charge. The sauce was light, but satisfying with its perfectly seasoned elements. It was a chilly evening, so we passed on sitting outside on the patio. I would look forward to returning whenever it finally decides to warm up around here. The interior of the restaurant is long and narrow. There might only be 10 tables inside. The outdoor patio gives them a lot more capacity. Dear Hubby decided to pass on having a beer, since they only offer bottled, nothing on draft. We also passed on dessert, as the choices didn't have much to offer that was non-dairy. I've enjoyed eating here with the family, great pasta, especially the lasagna, so very tasty with generous portions. My issue is the Seafood Cioppino that had large inedible mussels 4" long. These were very chewy,, grainy (sand?), and should not be served in this decadent soup. I've eaten Cioppino in Westlake Village by the lake, which is fresh tender with mussels that melt in your mouth. I've eaten these smaller choice mussels in the seafood soups in San Francisco, Canada, and Europe. I was so disappointed to have spent nearly $40 for a bowl of this soup at Olivio's that makes me fear the risk of how poorly Cioppino can be made by using low end substandard seafood selections. Olivio's... your standards must be higher than allowing this low quality mussel in the house! read more

I've been to this restaurant a couple of times now, and honestly, it's not at the top of my list. Parking's a easy, thanks to their dedicated lot. Inside, it's cozy with not a ton of seats, and it can get a bit noisy. But they do have a nice patio setup with heaters, which adds to the appeal. We decided to grab a glass of wine each and ordered a Caesar salad along with a wedge salad. Unfortunately, the wedge salad was a bit overdressed, and surprisingly, it lacked the essential blue cheese. When we inquired about it, we were informed that they didn't have any blue cheese available, so they served it without. It was disappointing because the blue cheese is usually the highlight of a wedge salad. I ended up feeling like they should've spoken up when they realized they didn't have blue cheese but I also felt like not a lot of people realize it's missing so they away with serving a salad that they call a wedge. We both decided on chicken dishes: I went for the chicken piccata, and the other plate was the chicken marsala. But, to our disappointment, the chicken was tough. It seemed like they used the same chicken for both dishes, just switching up the sauces. And surprisingly, my chicken piccata didn't have that tangy lemon flavor I was expecting. To be honest, I was hoping for more at this small Italian Trattoria. Came on a recommendation from friends. Again, wish I could say different, but the service was weak, and it took an extraordinarily long time to get our order. I ordered the "Most Basic" of all meals on the menu. Spaghetti and meatballs. Thought this was safe. I couldn't believe (and still can't) that my meatballs were the prefab frozen kind from a bag. All exactly the same size, and that same spongy texture. I would expect home or handmade meatballs at any restaurant, especially a non-chain smaller venue. Sorry Olivio's, but I was not impressed. My wife was also unimpressed with her Picatta. The food was delicious. The bread and olive oil perfect! I ordered the Angus filet minion but instead of the risotto side, I got the pasta side. Only thing I would change is maybe getting the filet minion with the mashed potatoes. The pasta side was absolutely delicious so please do not get me wrong at all. However the Demi-glacé on top of the filet needed a more subtle side with it. As the Demi-Glacé was absolutely delicious on top of the perfectly cooked tender angus filet mignon. Secondly I do want to thank the staff for accommodating us. We arrived at 8:30 and they close at 9:00pm on a Monday night. So they stayed open a little later for us, so I could enjoy my birthday dinner here. Thank you to Chantel and Eddie! Good ambiance and welcoming environment. Closing time at the Ronald Reagan Library and everyone is staring at their phones trying to figure out what to eat. After much debate it was settled - Olivio's Trattoria was our destination. Our table of five was seated immediately (great!) but due to understaffing and what appeared to be a certain deference towards the locals, we were left twiddling our thumbs a bit too long. A minor complaint and the certainly made up for it with the food. Here's what we ordered and here's what I recommend - Calamari and Shrimp Fritti, Chopped Salad (we shared!), Double Cut Pork Chop (perfectly cooked and well seasoned!), Shrimp & Scallop Linguini (wow! they don't skimp on the seafood!), Meat Lasagna, Seafood Risotto (see previous note re: S&S Linguini) and the Butternut Squash Ravioli. Yummy! This restaurant gets it! It's a hidden gem in west Simi. The inside is not that big but there is a covered outdoor dining area with ample heat lamps. We were comfortably sat outdoors by the lovely wait staff. We ordered olivio's trio appetizer, lobster raviolis and a minestrone soup. The trio consisted of fried calamari+shrimp, crap cake, and caprase. The calamari was okay, it had Parmesan cheese on it which in my opinion made it worse. The crab cakes were phenomenal, except I didn't like the sauce that was on top of it. If I were to get it again I'll ask it to be on the side. The raviolis were delicious, al dente pasta with a delicate filling, paired with a rich bisque with asparagus and a few fairly large shrimps, it was just the dish I was looking for! The minestrone was pretty good as well. There were a good amount of vegetables in it and it was seasoned just right. I wish the vegetables were not quite as cooked as it was but overall it was still good. We had the cheesecake for dessert which was recommended by our waitress. The cheesecake itself was delightful, but I think they were trying to do too much with the chocolate syrup. I would definitely come back to try more dishes. read more
