Fried whiting is really good. As good or better than back in D.C. They didnt have the wings available, but if it uses the same batter its gonna be good. Scallop was a little salty, whiting wasnt. Ill stop by again if I comw through here.

I went on a Thursday afternoon and it was empty. The establishment felt like a mom and pop shop and there were only two workers at the time. I got the shrimp platter and it came with a helping of fried shrimp and a serving of fries. It does seem like you can switch out the side of fries with a different side if you'd like. I thought the shrimp with the tartare sauce was delicious! The fries were very bland so I recommend to switch out the fries with a different side.

South Charleston is just super hard to find parking... but google said that one of Charleston's specialties is the deviled crab from Dave's Carey-Out, you better believe I flew all the way out here and I MUST try it! Parked 5blocks away, and headed over! I took it back to my place at 15min away. Didn't eat until 30min later. Dang... my food was cold already, and it was still bomb! The deviled crab is pretty darned good! I got the seafood platter, and it came with a few choices of a side, and I picked rice with string beans. I forgot this side usually has pork in it, but no big deal. The entree came with fried fish, shrimp, scallops, and the deviled crab. The service was so friendly, courteous, and thoughtful! They asked what sauces I'd like, and listed them, and when they saw I couldn't make up my mind, they suggested all sauces! The place isn't too hard to find since it's right at the corner. I did think it was closed at first, until I saw people inside. The inside had benches inside to wait for the food, but there is NO dine-in (no tables). It was a pretty simple set up too. The main thing was the counter and the open kitchen. I had much at a couple of spots in the historic area, but, dinner was hands down the best.

Made an unexpected stop in Charleston, and I learned something new! This place was meant for me to stumble upon. Exactly what my belly needed to get filled with some good ole down south fried seafood! From the moment I walked in, I was greeted with the most pleasant southern charm. My food was cooked to order and even came with a twist. The owner offers the platter with a choice of fries or "red rice." Well I have never heard of red rice so I went for it. If the ancestors didn't sing from the valleys of West Africa, then I was teleported back mentally. This is definitely the South Carolina version of Jollof, down do the grilled onions and tomato flavors infusing the long grain rice. Needless to say I throughly enjoyed my 1st meal in Charleston.

OMG, this place is so good.... Literally a tiny corner store in a residential part north of Charleston's old town, Dave's Carry out delivers. Based on some reviews I had read, I knew they were famous for their fried food / seafood and sandwiches, but when I looked at their specials, their Ribs caught my eye. I love tender, fall off the bone ribs (either pork or beef) and I decided to go for it. Not a lot of parking, my husband let me get off to order while he parked in a corner, waiting. Once inside, I saw the nice people behind the counter, friendly and ready to help. I placed my order and I waited a few minutes for my food to be placed in a take out container. Once I got back to the hotel, I enjoyed the deliciousness of the food. The ribs were tasty, tender and plentiful. The red rice was wonderful as well as the boiled cabbage. Do yourself a favor and check it out.... Just delicious. They take credit cards.

Dave's knocks it out the park again!! This past Thursday evening I was craving shrimp and fish. Not just any shrimp and fish, but the best shrimp and fish in the Charleston area!! The batter always keeps me coming back for more. It's my favorite take out place business in the Chuck! 30 years strong, and a locals favorite!! Love talking life with Terry when they are not too busy!! If you haven't tried them, you're truly missing out!

Wanted to hit this place up before leaving Charleston and so glad I did. It's truly nothing fancy about this place, but what matters most is that the food is fire. And fire it was! I ordered the Seafood Platter ($19.50), which came with fried shrimp & fish, scallops, and devil crab). It was all served up with fries and it was such a satisfying meal. The fish was perfectly fried and the shrimp was big! Never had devil crab before, but I liked it. It was crab cake-ish in terms of texture and taste, but wholly unique as well. This was a black-owned restaurant that I was excited to support and I can see why it's remained a popular spot in the city for good seafood.

Admittedly not my best photo but whatever I was too excited.

You order, they plate it, you pay and either take it to go or to sit in the small dining area. Service is very quick and efficient, and you can tell there are a lot of regulars who come here because the staff joked and laughed with them as they waited in line. Speaking of the line, it moved fast but while we were there a woman came around with a tray and offered little cups of brightly colored something. I chose red and was delighted to see it was a frozen punch, red is cherry. My friend got orange and he said it was like a mango or peach flavor. I ordered the fried chicken, with cabbage and red rice. The cabbage was absolute fire, it was so tender and delicious. The red rice was good, but a bit on the dry side. I feel like had I been there when a fresh pan was brought out it would have been a lot better. The fried chicken was perfectly cooked and had a flaky crust but it needed salt and the tables did not provide any. I would come back, there are so many other things I would love to try and this place is busy for a reason.

So we took an Uber there on our way to the airport, luggage and backpacks and all. The line was to the door. Most people get their food to go but there are a handful of tables in the dining room. We parked ourselves and our bags at one by the front wall and settled in for our fried porkchops and fried chicken, lima beans, cabbage, red rice, mac and cheese, and corn bread. And while we waited for our food, one of the kitchen staff walked around passing out free frozen punch. It was good! This was the perfect choice for our last meal in Charleston. We were in and out in 45 minutes, full and satisfied. The only thing is we are still confused about pricing. We think there was an error because somehow we paid $29 for one meal and $19 for the other. Can't be right...but we didn't have time to sort all that out. Pay it forward.

However, all of the side streets have signs that say residential permit parking. She insisted we'd be ok so we took a chance. It was a Saturday and she said they are lax with enforcement on the weekends. The service is a slow. We placed our drink order and waited for 15-20 minutes for our server to return to take our orders. We had to ask another server to take our order. Our initial server was apologetic however. It still took a very long time for our food to come out. We ordered the crab and shrimp rice, 5 honey bbq drummettes with sides of mac and cheese, cabbage and yams. Hubby ordered the fried fish fillet sandwich with fries. The food was amazing!! Seasoned well and hot. I will say that the crab rice was just ok. I don't agree with the hype. Between the parking challenges and the slow service, I'm not sure if the good food would cause me to return.

It's exciting to make another major wedding decision and feel like we're getting closer to having everything come together. At the same time, I've been feeling a little uneasy about some of the budget conversations. Part of it is that I don't always feel like Olivia and I approach spending the same way. One thing that bothered me was that after deciding on Parcel 32, the conversation quickly shifted toward adding things like a photographer for the rehearsal dinner. My reaction was that we should wait until we understand the full wedding budget before making those decisions. There are still major unknowns, especially rentals, and I don't think we really know what the final numbers are going to look like. The same thing comes up with invitations. Olivia wants high end stationery and sees it as an important part of the wedding. I understand the perspective that it's our wedding and that it's a once in a lifetime event. But I also feel like I keep coming back to the budget while she keeps coming back to the experience. What makes me uncomfortable is treating money that appears to be left over in one category as money that's immediately available to spend somewhere else. In my mind, we don't know what we truly have left until the entire budget is finalized. Just because the rehearsal dinner comes in under budget doesn't necessarily mean we should immediately spend that difference somewhere else. Another thing that keeps coming back into my head is that Olivia makes very good money. She's probably making somewhere between $135,000 and $145,000 a year, which is objectively a strong income. So when I hear things like, "Maybe I need a second job to pay for that," my reaction is that a second job isn't really the issue. From my perspective, the issue is spending decisions. When I look at her financial situation, I don't see someone who has an income problem. I see someone who has made a series of expensive decisions that, when combined, created the situation she's in today. The apartment is one example. It was a really nice apartment, but given the amount of debt she already had, I don't think it was the most financially responsible choice. The rhinoplasty is another example. Whether it was personally important to her or not, it was still a major expense added on top of an already difficult financial situation. The dog is another one. I love Rio and I'm happy we have him, but realistically, a dog is another financial commitment that probably wasn't necessary at that point in time. Then there's the Jeep, which is probably the biggest example of all. Individually, each of these decisions can be justified. But when I step back and look at them together, I see a pattern of choosing things she wanted despite already carrying significant debt. That's what worries me. Not because of the wedding itself, but because I wonder whether that same pattern could show up later with vacations, kids, housing upgrades, or other major purchases. Maybe I'm overthinking it. Maybe wedding planning is making me more sensitive to these things. But I don't think my concern is really about invitations or photographers. I think it's about whether we fundamentally approach money differently. The reality is that our families are already spending roughly $225,000 on this wedding. That's an incredible amount of money, and I don't personally feel the need to push beyond that. I want us to have an amazing wedding, but I also want us to be disciplined and intentional about where the money goes. For now, I'm trying to separate what is a legitimate concern about long term financial compatibility from what is simply stress and uncertainty that comes with planning a large wedding.
