I guess I've never reviewed this shopping complex, but we've been here a million times over the 13 years we've lived in the vicinity. The massive area was previously the site of the Glenview Naval Air Station and this shopping center is the heart of the huge Glen residential community as well. There are numerous shops and restaurants here and it's always a pleasant experience to visit. Like Fashion Outlets in Rosemont, every time we visit there is something new here. One business or another has left and another has stepped in. The rent must be high here, and if you don't continually draw the requisite traffic, you won't survive. We've seen a lot of businesses come and go. Remember Ted's Montana Grill? - it was a favorite of ours and also one of the first to disappointingly close in our earlier years, and that's now The Oak at the Glen, and in a prime location. Some of our favorite and long standing and still standing businesses here are Von Maur, Dick's Sporting Goods, and the Yard House. I could probably name another 20 shops or restaurants we liked or tried here, but that have all since closed. Jibek Jolu is a relatively recent addition that we like for what that's worth. We were going to try Dee's Place (soul food) one day, but dang, they closed before we even got to it, and that was a big investment in a large space for that restauranteur, and too bad. It can get busy and crowded, but nicely there is alway parking to be found in one of their parking lots. Oh well, business is tough here for the tenants, but for us consumers, this is a great upscale town center. read more

I'm not sure what's taking me so long to put a review here for the Glenn in general. Especially since I've been coming here since they opened at least 15 or more years ago I believe. The only reason I'm giving it three stars frankly is because even in the last almost 20 years I believe that they've been open unfortunately there's been a lot of turnover when it comes to the restaurants. I'm not sure if this is simply due to high rent, but there's really nothing that the Glen or its Landlord are doing in order to provide any real stability and it's rather unfortunate. Also, since this place was built, the parking situation has always been a challenge and it continues to be. In fact, it just gets worse with all these special parking places and reserve spaces that continue on the main strip. I do hope that things get better, but with the way that it has been structured and built there really is no opportunity for expansion whether being retail and restaurant space or even for parking I will say it's been great to see the movie theater Von Maur as an example of two establishments that have been here I believed the entire time this place has been open Similar to a lot of other moles, there's a lot of empty spaces and vacancies and it's very sad especially when it's surrounded by million dollar homes in a suburb of additional multimillion dollar homes read more

What an interesting collection of restaurants and shops! Over the years, the tenants here have changed but the collection is always a bit more unique than what you'll find in other shopping centers in the area. One of the best features of this spot is the setup which resembles a separate downtown shopping space, similar to what you'd find in downtown Arlington Heights with parking nearby. The walkways are clean and well maintained and it's a great space to take a stroll and enjoy lots of different options in a casual evening with warm weather. One of the standout features of this shopping center has always been their great mix of restaurants which cover a wide variety of different cuisines. Currently 1800 Cut Restaurant, Yard House, El Tradicional, Dawg Park Grill, and Eggpresso are some of the many fine options here. There's also plenty of spots to puchase clothing, jewelry, sports good, and more -- in addition to a selection of spas and salons. Overall, not a huge but a fun shopping center that provides a nice alternative to visiting the mall but a unique set of restaurants and shops. read more

The Glen Town Center is a favorite destination for shopping and restaurants. I like the design of this outdoor shopping mall. Most of the stores are along one strip with street parking available. There are also parking garages available. They have a wide variety of restaurants to try. We have met friends and gone to events here and have yet to go to any restaurants twice. On this trip we went to Chuck Lager, a new upscale bar/tavern. This is a nice addition with indoor and outdoor seating available. They have a large beer and wine list along with food that is fancier than you'll find in your typical drinking establishment. I have also been to Ben and Jerry's Ice Cream, Dawg Park Grill, Montira Thai & Sushi. I recommend them all. When Naval Air Station Glenview closed in September 1995, the Village of Glenview purchased the land and turned it into a shopping, dinning, and entertainment district. The Glen Town Center consists of almost 1.5 square miles and comprises approximately 15 percent of the land mass in Glenview. This is a pleasant location to grab food and meet up with friends and/or family. There's a decent selection of restaurants. I haven't shopped here before, but it would seem that there's a variety of shops in the area. The Glen appears clean and well maintained. There's a large parking garage. However, it seems somewhat sketchy due to poor lighting, which may present potential safety concerns for visitors. read more

A nice mix of shops and restaurants located in this Center -- surrounded by townhomes and houses. I stopped at Glenview jewelers and Poke Burrito. I'll stop by to try Alice & Friends, and there is another branch of my salon, Gordon Salon, located here. There is a parking garage, and pull in street parking. Check the hours of the shops/restaurants, because I came before lunch one weekday, and a few places weren't open yet. If I'm in the area, this is a pleasant area to walk through, window shop, and try a new restaurant. read more

07/04/20 - Happy 4th of July. For those of you that don't know The Glen use to be a Naval Air Station back in the day. After the Cold War w/the former Soviet Union the US Government decided to close military bases around the country as they didn't see the need anymore for Glenview Naval Air Station. This is prime real estate in Glenview, IL over 1,000 acres that was sitting empty for years. The Glen has been developed w/high end housing, restaurants, entertainment venues, bars, movie theaters & a huge outdoor recreational area w/a large pond & track around the perimeter. I use to take my mom & her caretaker to The Glen & walk around the pond. My mom would tell people we walked around the man made lake. (I pushed her in her wheelchair lol). I miss my mom. I would ask her who walked around the lake July 04, 2020 my sister & I were walking in The Glen when we saw an assortment of high end super cars driving through the Glen. Cars like Ferrari's, McClaren's, Lamborghinis, Audi R8's, Porsche's, Vipers, GT-Rs, Lotus.... cruising along through The Glen. We were wondering why they were driving through then we noticed some of them were going into the parking garage & up to the second floor rooftop parking deck. We really lucked out as we found a mini car show of these high end super cars on the roof on display. We walked around one afternoon and it was nice. Being jn a wheelchair, all the crosswalks were accessible. A couple of restaurants has seating outdoors that some encroach onto the sidewalk so it's a bit of a tight fit for wheelchair users. Speaking of there is a huge variety of restaurants! Plus so many different little shops! It's nice to walk around on a summer afternoon or evening. read more

The Glen is a nice piece of property with some interesting history behind it that just isn't celebrated as much as it should be. Today, the shops at the Glen are pretty underwhelming. Ted's is long gone, as is Jameson's, and Ulta. I'm a little surprised at these departures but more surprised that they aren't filling these vacancies with businesses that could be big draws. read more

The Glen Town Center definitely revitalized this area of Glenview - in addition to the building development of single-family homes and townhouses, having the Center for both the residents and the non-residents really made this area a more happening place. Stores such as Jos. A Bank, Dick's, and Von Maur are available, in addition to plenty of restaruants such as Ted's Montana Grill, RA Sushi, and the Yardhouse. Parking is free and somewhat plentiful, but the place does get packed on the weekends/evenings! My family and I tend to have dinners at the Yardhouse often, as we love this particular location's set-up - it is large, bustling, and the food is generally pretty good. Sweetie brought me here because it used to be Glenview NAS. Well, maybe that's not the only reason, but she knew the airplane geek in me would like it. There are signs of the past- the tower, a few names, logos, etc. It's a nice planned community, kinda like Easton in Columbus, OH. Shopping, dining, residences. She calls it "The Cult" because you never have to leave. She lived nearby for awhile, and worked at a restaurant that used to be here. It's a nice place to stroll, shop, whatever. Free parking is available. I'd come back if it were closer; maybe someday. read more

Granted: I do not live nearby (I do work nearby) so I might feel differently if I did. But, honestly, this place felt like an upper-class suburban Disneyfied shopping center. And by that I mean retrofitting and reimagining history to fit in with this idyllic version of a town that never existed. Like they took "Main Street" from the Magic Kingdom, took out the rides and Mickey Mouse, added some high-end clothing stores, voila. Glenview never had a proper downtown (see: Geneva, Glen Ellyn, even Naperville) so they turned an old military base into a faux-old fashioned version. Kind of Stepford-y and weird. There are a decent number of restaurants, and a few cute shops, but mostly it's expensive and a little hoity-toity. I felt underdressed, and I was in work clothes! read more

I detest urban sprawl, which is why I love The Glen. Finally, a residential development in the suburbs that was actually built to encourage walking rather than reliance on a car! The Glen scares me. I remember when the neighboring Target and Kohl's opened back in the day - that was a big deal. Then the Glen appears..... and retail is everywhere. That area is so congested now, I avoid it like the plague. It's almost one year since my last review of The Glen. Tonight, being a perfect weather night, we headed over to breathe some different air and order up some burgers from one of their newer stops - Mooyah (I'll review that separately). On a gorgeous summer evening, I have to tell you that the entire complex was seriously hopping. The outside tables were filled with people. There are additional shops that are now open and some ready to open (Mingle Juice Bar). Sadly, Make A Messterpiece is closed, but I believe that all things have a life cycle. For the first time, I finally stopped into Stella 315 (separate review to come) - this really cute dress shop with a sidewalk rack caught my eye. I loved that so many of the restaurants have sidewalk tables and outdoor seating areas for people shopping! Note: Stella 315 is near Vintage Nest, another favorite of mine. I can't find any negatives about this outdoor mall/lifestyle center - I just can't. For those living onsite, there are restaurants, a movie theatre clothing shops, a book store, etc., but I think a convenience store of some sort would be lovely. Great place to stroll with the family, and a lovely water fountain and tons of outdoor seating. While you're at it, you can eat and then head to a show! Also, many references to the history of the past - as a Naval base. I'll be back for sure! read more

Absolutely amazing. I have been finding myself in and out of this area every week it seems. From the shopping, the restaurants, events, the parks and the proximity to the Children's Museum, this is truly an ideal place to be if you have children, or just time to kill and money to spend. The planning and development put into this area is mind boggling. The setting is completely serene, a great place to spend the afternoon. THe nearby park across the way is my favorite park to go to. Parking is ample, and the flow is set so that one can easily walk the entire mall without once thinking of the fact that they are on foot. (I'm lazy). I am still in awe that this used to be the Glenview naval station! This mall features some really great events for children. I was just there yesterday, and not only did they have Justin Roberts perform, they also had a band that performed hair music. I love love love hair music! They also had a balloon artist, face painter, caricature artist, and a moon bounce for the kiddies. You can easily spend the wntire day here and never get bored. read more

The glen is the best! I love von muar it's the Department store in the glen. And the Bathrooms at von Maur are really clean! I love the Restaurants in the glen and the parking is free! And it's like 5 minutes away from my house! There's going to be a new restaurant in the glen where Teds used to be . The only downside is that the dig spaces in the glen is that the rent is really high and restaurants go in and out sadly! The recent closing of elephant and castle left me really sad. But at least yard house is still there and the currah , and the flight and that's an awesome place to eat but it's a Bit pricey to eat dinner but if u go there for appetizers and drinks it kinda keeps the coast Down. I have been living in Glenview for 32 years of my life! So I know where the good places to eat. read more

I really like this outdoor shopping/town center. They have family friendly restauarants such as Bravo and Potbelly's and also some fun food options such as Yard House. They have some nice shops including the nearest Carter's to us and they also have Portrait Innovations which has some fantastic prices for family photos, as well. In addition to the retail stores around here, they also have a candy shop, Ben & Jerry's and a movie theatre. If anything, this is a nice family friendly outdoor center that near parks and the Children's Museum. Parking is easy to find alongside the shops/restaurants and also in their parking structure, as well. read more

An awesome mixed used development of the old Glenview Naval Air Station. Restaurants, movie theaters, townhomes, restaurants, retail and more restaurants. They have created a second downtown for Glenview. Its an awesome place to hang out in the summer with most of the restaurants having patio seating. The only thing to beware of is that all of the restaurants are chains. Red Star, Tea Leaf Cafe and El Jardin are my favorites. There is also an excellent candy store next to Ben and Jerry's and the Crown Movie Theater. On Tuesday nights in the summertime, they have outdoor concerts. The concerts occur on the grassy area near the memorial close to and sort of between Bravo and Mitchell's near Ulta. Some of the bands are better than others, but its a great way to enjoy summer and good break in the middle of the week. You can buy Pizza from Salerno's, Gelato from Via Gelato and they also have some other booths there. There is usually a face painter and balloon maker for kids. read more

The Glen one block of magnificence. The ones who know about it are privileged. The strip offers a variety of hot lunch spots to high quality dinner venues. Via Gelato is my favorite lunch restaurant. For dinner I would say Mitchell's or Yard house is the best. Bravo is a great lunch with awesome lobster bisque soup. Yard house has a kick ass clam chowder soup. The best soup is at Via Gelato they offer a special homemade soup daily and they are all 5 star. Avoid Ted's Montana grill at all costs this is the armpit of the Glen. I really like the movie theater here its really nice and has indoor parking. As for the night life the Yard house is kicking with a great beer selection. Many Belgium beers on tap along with fine german selections. They have crapy American beer too if your into that. Flight is the wine hangout. With a decent lounging area wine by the glass nice atmosphere a bit snug. Many good stores for shopping all along the strip. There is also a lake where you can fish catch and release. The Glen is power packed and has much to offer worth a visit. read more

I'm really giving The Glen 3 1/2 stars because for me, its "Yay! Its pretty alright." Its a great place to for lunch or dinner. Its close by and convenient with plenty of choices. From RA Sushi to Yard House, Noodles & Co. and Potbelly's, you've got yourselves options. Summer is cool at The Glen. They have events and festivals that take place, From the theater to RA Sushi, there's a decent crowd. People eating outside, going to the movies. But go the other way, and its a ghost town. It always seems like this place has something missing. I guess its b/c during the Summer nights, it feels like there should be more to do around here. But no, its BORING!!! I feel like this should be the go to spot in suburbs. And I mean the go to spot for the older crowd, not just the kids. All there is to do here is eat, take a nice walk, hang around the fountain, and go home. BORING!!! I would love to have a sports bar/pub and/or a coffee house that houses live music. Welcome to the Truman Show! A pre-planned retail and residential area on property that used to be a Naval Air Base. Its kind of weird driving up to it - there's nothing and then suddenly you're in some kind of middle American 1950's main street fantasy. Thus the "Truman Show" reference - it feels more like a movie set than a real place. But with a 10-screen movie theatre, restaurants (I recommend Yardhouse or Ted's) and a few other pricey shops, Glenviewites & Northbrookers flock here, especially on the weekends. I'm here most often for a movie - the seating is great, chatty chuckleheads are few, and I've never heard a cell phone ring during a movie. read more

Pricey and rather generic, this mall may just leave you yawning. The stores are more expensive versions of whats in the less snobby towns around this area. Von Maur has a large selections of items but it comes off seeming like Macy's pretentious little sister. The restaurants are well varied and offer different tastes and price ranges but are not large in quantity. Summer time in the glen is fun as long as your in the teen era of your life, with skate boarders and rude prebuscent children cursing and running into the streeets. The parking is nearly as annoying and the crowds can be atrocious. As far as outdoor malls go, I have always preferred Old Orchard mall, even though the Glen Mall is about a block away. I would really rather drive far far away! read more

The Pleasantville nature of the place at first freaks you out. Then you think about "Why would people want to live on-top of a Starbucks in a make-believe town that's a shopping center in Glenvew, IL?" That can never be answered, but nonetheless the Glen is a neat place to shop (not live). It has some nice restaurants (most of which are chains) and a great theater. Von Maur is an AMAZING department store that's new to Chicagoland. The Glen is definitely worth checking out! read more

This place definitely has a stepford feel to it, but that's what I like about it. I also like that it has no real anchor stores too! it keeps away the real masses keeping the area's traffic somewhat manageable. although to some of you feel like it's crowded, coming from the City (Bucktown specifically) The Glen is definitely on the lighter side of foot and car traffic... and how can you over look free parking!! The Glen is definitely one of those places that's just good to walk around in, have lunch or dinner and a movie and that's about it. The shops are minimal and expensive--Von Maur is a pretty typical department store though they have the occasional sale item that catches my eye. It's a good place to just sit around and watch people walk by in my opinion. There is a good selection of restaurants (I've only been to a couple--RA Sushi is not worth your time go find a not-trendy sushi restaurant that actually cares about sushi), and there's the movie theater that's really nice. There's also a candy shop right next to the movie theater so you can buy a bag and sneak it in. There's also a Ben & Jerry's! The Glen also occasionally hosts some festivals and events. I believe there is an annual Art Festival during the summer and you can walk around and see local artists' works and maybe buy some supplies if you feel like it (I don't remember the prices, so I can't say if it's overpriced or a great deal). I heard at night you'll see 14-year-olds hanging around and smoking. That's pretty much the only age demographic I see hanging around there if not for a movie or food anyway so not surprised. Don't expect a spectacular mall/plaza experience. You might find something you really like...or not. Personally, I like the environment and the kind of closed off space feeling it has. read more

The Glen is a breath of fresh air in the northwest suburbs. It's feels like you're on vacation in another state with the boutique-esq stores shops, local entertainment and dining variety all in one spot. In addition to the random store finds, you also have the convenience of Ulta, Carter's, Dick's Sporting Goods and Von Maur. There's something to explore for everyone. Because it's a strip mall like set up, it's definitely more enjoyable in the spring, summer and fall months. Parking is a bit tight but they have several free parking garages available for use. Dining highlights include Yard House and Flight Wine Bar. Both which are bustling no matter the day of week. There's also a movie theater within the Glen but is quite expensive as compared to the vicinity. All in all, a fun time and a fun place to switch things up in the burbs. read more

I work 5 minutes from the Glen, so I am a frequent visitor. With a variety of shops, restaurants, cafe, and entertainment establishments the Glen has something for everyone. Great place to take a walk, either within the town center, or around the large lake across the street. Summer concerts and festivals make The Glen a "must" on every summer to-do list. Whenever I have out of town visitors I bring them here and share the story of the naval base turned shopping center. read more

I have been coming to the Glen ever since it was constructed. I must say that it is a very beautiful town center and it takes pride in catering to the residents of Glenview. However, the Glen only gets four starts from me due to the fact that there aren't many good places (as a young adult) to go out and meet with friends except for Yard House. El Jardin and Ra Sushi aren't exactly on my "premiere restaurants" list since their food is "okay" to me. Flight isn't exactly a place for young adults, Ted's is alright, and Tower Grille is just nonexistent now. The movie theatre is pretty nice, but pricey. The gelato place across from the theatre is fantastic, with a friendly staff. Buying attire at Von Mour is nicer than the average middle-scale department stores, but its clearance room is absolutely lovely. Overall, the Glen is a great place for family get-togethers. Being in my early 20s, I guess I don't appreciate everything the Glen has to offer because I'm usually just looking for bars to hang out with my friends. read more

Great outdoor shopping center! The first time I went there, I took a wrong turn and missed it (I did find the Kohl's Childrens Museum though). But other than what can be slightly confusing logistics (just turn onto Tower Rd), I have nothing but praise for the Glen. Von Maur's, Ulta, Ann Taylor Loft, and many other upscale boutique-y type stores that you won't find everywhere else. Did I mention the movie theatre (which shows movies for moms on Wednesday mornings, I believe)? And the food options are great - Potbelly's, El Jardin are favorites, but I plan to try some other restaurants there soon. read more

A relatively new, well-planned out shopping and residential area. It has sculptures, a movie theater, shops, restaurants, all mixed in with townhomes. It is clean and well kept and great to spend a couple hours at. Parking is ample. Just a change of pace from going to Old Orchard or Woodfield. read more
