As recent guests at The Southern Hotel in Covington, LA we visited the lounge. We were a part of one of the three events being celebrated at the hotel that Saturday evening. The place was packed, to say the least. Melissa Thrash, bartender, and Christopher Walker, manager, made my husband and I feel like we were the only customers. They showed genuine interest in our travels and they were always patient when talking with us. They also shared information on drinks to try. We were at the lounge for several hours and the fantastic customer service did not lessen. Go visit Melissa and Chris. I am positive you will have a similar experience.

If you want to go somewhere for cute pictures, this place is a MUST! The decor and walls are adorable. We went on a Sunday morning and it wasn't that busy. We got bottomless mimosas and our waiter was pretty good at keeping us refilled. Would not recommend the Caesar salad. The "croutons" were soggy, the gumbo and the brisket were delicious.

My wife and I had an excellent anniversary dinner tonight at The Gloriette in the Southern Hotel in Covington. Lovely understated southern charm and relaxed upscale ambiance, and fine service, with excellent food and cocktails. I had the salmon and my mate had a shrimp pasta dish. Both were excellent as were my Caesar and her beet salads. We shared a dark chocolate torte with cappuccino gelato for dessert. It was all quite enjoyable. The Gloriette is highly recommended and is perhaps the top of the dining mark in Covington.

Fabulous food, however, the service was highly disappointing. We had been sat but wasn't greeted by our server Nate until about 15 minutes in, in which he introduced himself and offered to bring out water. Lemons were requested with the water, however they weren't brought out with the water. Actually had to ask 2 different times afterwards, which was about 10 minutes or so and finally got them. Then another server came about 15-20 minutes later and asked if he could take our food order, however, we had not even been offered to place a drink order, which we made him aware we had been sitting/waiting. He apologized and took drink orders. I will say drinks were great. I, myself, ordered a glass of Rose' and it was very tasty. Everyone else in the party seemed to be pleased with their drinks, with the expectation of 1 who never got their drink at any point through the meal even after making it known. We were really wanting to get more drinks but felt it was best to not even try to order a 2nd round. Hell, we were never asked how the drinks were or if we wanted to order any additional drinks. Miss out on sales Meanwhile our server could be seen constantly running back and forth frantically as if he was beyond overwhelmed with the 3-4 small tables he had. He then finally came to take our food order and then we of course waited and got food in a timely manner. The food was great and very tasty. I ordered the crab cake and I must say the chef did so well. Everyone in regards to their meals were highly pleased, however the only damper in regards to the food service was someone in the party had to request a condiment(ketchup) at least 4 different times before they got it(took about 15 minutes). Nate, himself never returned after food was delivered, however, he did come to check and asked how it was going pretty much when everyone was done eating, so it made no sense to us. Thank goodness were were a easy party and didn't require much. I got a chance to taste the brie cheese grits and I was so impressed! Overall, the food experience itself was amazing. When it came time to request the checks/bills, that was horrific. Nate split checks up pretty much correctly except for like 3 people and he had to re-do/fix theirs at least 3 times before we could pay and depart. Our party of ladies were very easy going and only ordered 1 round of drinks and food with no requests other than lemon for water and ketchup, however, the service was beyond flawed. We hope to return sooner than later and give the restaurant another try, of course with a more skilled server, that way we can suggest/recommend this restaurant because of its great food it does have to offer!

Food and service was great. The restaurant had a french tea party vibe with the decor which was surprising but fun.

Go for the food & ambience! Service is always the only thing a little off for us. The gorgeous view helps.

I came here for my birthday and it was unbelievable. Honestly, when I looked at the menu, I wasn't super excited, but oh my - I was proven wrong! We split a Caesar salad, with the most amazing croutons, then I got the Flounder and my husband got the Moules Frites. He said the could have drank the tomato-y butter sauce, and the frites were divine. The sauce on the Flounder was equally spectacular and the potatoes and the tiny brioche croutons so flavorful and went perfectly with the fish. The fish itself was perfect. And then there was the atmosphere, which was why we chose to come here. The service was excellent - i just can't say enough about this beautiful place!

The Gloriette was such a special dining experience for our anniversary. Chef Alex Harrell has made some changes to the menu which did not disappoint. Great service, beautiful ambiance, and delicious food! I think the duck leg confit is the best version of the dish I've had. I'm still drooling at the thought of this dinner weeks later!

Smoked old fashion was fantastic and their cocktails are so refreshing! Everything was delicious and the service was on point! We're suckers for ambiance, and this place is gorgeous and my favorite part was the local singer Ashley Orlando! Her singing was so special that was my favorite touch can't wait to come back.

Beautiful restaurant! Great food. Service needs a little improvement. They need to enforce a dress code.

Nice food, very pretty interior. Loud. Impossible to enjoy the meal with the deafening roar of noise.

I ordered the short ribs and felt it was tender... but dried out. So I hadn't gone back. Well I met friends for a "supper club" we created and my opinion was completely changed. I would give them 5/5 stars now. The best part of the night was great service lead by Ms. Sydney. She understood the menu, gave recommendations and clear explanations of how items were prepared, and was quick with a joke! I literally almost spit my water out laughing at one point!!! The wine selection was amazing and paired well with the entrees ordered. I have to give a disclaimer that, at our table was the person that distributed the liquor.... So he knew what bottles were the ones we had to have with our meals. The mixed drinks were great too. I had an espresso martini, but also tasted my friends's sazeracs and old fashions. All were great! I was pleasantly surprised when the bill came as we ordered several appetizers, drinks, bottles of wine, and dessert! My bill was way less than I anticipated given the amount that we ordered! I'd def come back and I'd probably request being put In Sydney's section!

The atmosphere here is cozy, and romantic, although rather loud when there are even just several tables filled. The service was great throughout our meal. The food was excellent, we started with craft cocktails and wine, and for an app we had the whipped ricotta - yum! For our entrees we went with the braised beef short rib with saffron risotto, and he had the duck cheek. Then ended with a cannoli and house made tiramisu. Everything was well done and delightful! Highly recommend for your next date night!

I've found the food service to be too slow (it once took almost two hours to prepare a piece of toast and poached egg), so personally recommend planning to come for the scones and tea. The scones are absolutely delectable with clotted cream and a lemon spread on the side. I like the classic ones, but there is plain, specialty, and savory (three choices) offered each day. You get two so can mix and match! The tea menu is EXTENSIVE with pages and pages of teas. For a flat rate, you can have as much tea as your stomach can hold!! They have plenty of decaf options too. This place books up fast, especially around the holidays! Plan to linger here a few hours with a loved one and really soak up all the joy of the experience. I never get tired of coming here and delight in sharing it with others!! Top favorite tea is London Bridge (a mix of nutcracker, vanilla, and almond). For fellow decaf tea lovers, I recommend also: vanilla almond, Belgian chocolate, mocha Rocha, rooibos chai, Oxford study, and Mountbatten blend. Don't miss the chance to take a photo by the phone booth on the way out!!

Although we specifically requested a table downstairs, we were instead seated upstairs in what appeared to be an attic-like space off in the corner. The area was poorly arranged, and above our table a hanging light bulb shone directly into our eyes creating an uncomfortable environment. We left this table and went to express our concerns to the hostess. There were plenty of open tables downstairs but she said they were reserved for 7pm when our reservation was for 6pm. My wife said we will just sit at the bar if we have to. We were then placed at a table in a hidden spot beside the fireplace. I say hidden because the lady refilling water forgot about us several times. In addition, portion sizes are small while prices are quite expensive resulting in a disappointing imbalance between cost and value. Dinner for two was $240 not including tip. $62 for a 6oz filet then up charge when asked for more bread!!!! The one redeeming aspect of the experience was our server, Devin, who provided excellent service--professional, attentive, and genuinely courteous. His efforts stood out in an otherwise unsatisfactory visit. He was assigned upstairs but took care of us at this downstairs table.
